After The Ash; Post-Apocalyptic, Runnin' and gunnin'!
2006: The start of the "Long Emergency" ushers in a new decade of slowly arising fear; growing anxiety, and a depleting source of peak oil. Governments and their populations are unhindered in their absolute consumption of the dwindling supply as oil prices begin an irrevocable rise that slowly begins to weigh on global economies and leads political leaders to increasingly place energy at the forefront of national policies.
2007: Ukraine joins the EU. A process of pulling the strategically valuable former soviet republics away from Russia and integrating them into the EU and NATO has begun, much to the chagrin of the Russians. As this occurs, second rate nations begin to attempt to break away from China; Nepal, Tibet, and numerous other districts are embroiled in a silent protest against their Chinese captors. The world slowly begins to slip toward war.
2008: Democratic Socialist movements have swept through every nation in South America, the continents nations build strong trade and aid agreements and weather the coming economic downturns quite well. With this, Venezualan oil begin to pump freely throughout a large majority of South America; much to the despise of the America's and other Super-Powers who are beginning to strain under the quickly drying stream of oil.
After several years of civil war that has severely undermined the civilian government, the US declares martial law in Iraq. Widespread suppression of dissent and massive military action against insurgents allows US forces to make permanent their fortifications. Iraq effectively becomes a US overseas protectorate and a semi-reliable flow of oil is established from the countries oil fields. However, because the occupiers can do little to stop the bloody civil war raging between the countries Sunni's and Shias, the conflict rapidly spreads to neighboring countries.
Global Influenza Pandemic; first of many subsequent H5N1 avian influenza outbreaks kills thousands, mainly in South East Asia, and causes tightened borders, and paranoia. The disease will continue to outbreak for the next 10 years. This puts strain on relations with China, Russia, and several other nations in the vicinity. With diplomatic talks between many Super-Powers beginning to deteriorate into nothing but angered babble, many nations consolidate themselves; and begin to resemble Militaristic Police states in all but name.
With an ever growing insurgency straining the government of Afghanistan, crippled and hardly capable of defending itself, invites US/NATO forces to establish permanent bases in and around Kabul and strategic cities in the nation.
2010: After an attempted coup by pro-US, CIA backed military officers in Venezuela fails and US involvement is revealed to the international community, the US retaliate with economic embargoes and surgical military action intended to cripple the economy and topple the regime. However, because of their solidarity with fellow South American countries, the country survives. Later that year the League of South American Free States is formed. Based mainly of Brazilian agricultural might and affordable Venezuela oil, the League is much stronger than anticipated.
The first of several large scale pro-democracy, pro-liberalization movements in China are brutally crushed. Over the coming years all of the major powers come to resemble military police states to some degrees. Secret police tactics result in massive civil unrest and domestic terrorism in all major states.
The EU builds large scale fortifications and military bases in the newly joined states of Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. While officials downplay the significance of the build up, they are obviously geared towards protecting against the Russian Federation and securing access to the Caspian Basin oil reserves in these countries. With this bases constructed, and EU forces now within ear-shot of compounding Russian Forces; the Federation prepares for a large mobilization of soldiers and material on the borders. As Armies settle in to DMZ's, cameras roll at these locations; chronicling the build up.
2011: The superpowers pick sides in the escalating Sunni/Shia war. China and Iran sign a deal to trade arms and oil, thereby providing Shia forces with a nearly limitless supply of arms, including (secretly) Chinese nuclear technology. Conversely, the Western Powers arm the Saudi's, and their Sunni proxies, against the Iranians and the Shia militias they support. Because of the influx of high tech military weaponry, the conflict expands to include outbreaks of conventional air and land combat, as well as the use of high tech weapons against civilians.
Massive global recession. Political developments in the Middle East, rapidly falling oil yields, repeated disease outbreaks, and environmental degradation cause inflation and a recession across the globe. In 2nd world countries with less robust economies and larger populations, particularly China and Russia, this results in severe, violent political unrest, and large-scale anti-government insurgency. Martial law becomes all-but-officially permanent in these countries. In many parts of the developing world, particularly Africa, nations crumble and a new age of anarchy begins. Starvation on a hitherto unseen, massive scale occur. In other countries, many in South America, robust micro-economies allow much of the population to thrive.
With deaths raising in a number of countries; hundreds of Governments ration supplies and material. With this, open riots and complete civil unrest route many Governments; forced into exile, war crimes go unpunished as angered leaders use any weapons available to regain their control.
2013: Iran/Saudi war, which has continued for years, spreads across region, erupts into direct conflict. Smaller Middle Eastern nations like Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan disintegrate, anarchy ensues. Iranian and Saudi forces clash over and on the Persian Gulf, and across the lawless deserts of Eastern Iraq. US forces in country can only retreat to their fortifications and continue to protect the oil supply.
Severe climate change ends seasonal weather predictability in many parts of the world causing intense strain on ecosystems, and massive devastation of dependent human populations as crops fail and food stocks disappear. Massive starvation, hitherto unseen in modern human history breaks out in Africa; entire populations disappear, nations crumble, wide spread anarchy ensues. The rest of the world looks on in horror.
Journalists reveal that Israel has been heavily arming and covertly aiding both sides of the Sunni/Shia conflict against each other. International outrage, particularly in Iran and Saudi Arabia is extreme, and both countries retaliate with conventional and guerrilla attacks against Israel. Israel strikes back against all of its neighbors, the final act that engulfs the entire region in bloody war.
Following the assassination of its dictator by Islamic militants, Pakistan disintegrates into chaos and tribalism. Only the capitol and certain strategic and urban areas remain under 'government' control, mostly with US/NATO and Indian assistance. NATO Fortifies bases in Afghanistan and US Troops prop up the ramping forces of the government in Pakistan. US Energy corporations gin a long term deal with Turkmenistan to exploit selected oil reserves along the Caspian Sea, and to ship it out via a new pipeline through occupied Afghanistan and Pakistan.
2014: The world is stunned as a three-way nuclear war between Israel, Saudi Arabia and Iran decimates all three countries. Major cities and large tracts of previously inhabited land are rendered radioactive dead zones. Intermittent oil extraction continues from a few remote, well-fortified oil fields, mainly those held by foreign powers in Iran, Iraq and the Saudi desert. With this action, hundreds of nations begin to reform their Nuclear Arsenal, stringing up their payloads that would render Missile Shields useless due to sheer tonnage and damage alone.
Middle Eastern oil production, already low, falls dismally. The industrial economies of the world, which are floundering in a recession, still attempting transformation to post-petroleum sustainability, are thrown into full-scale depression, the likes of which haven’t been seen since the 1930s.
Global warming begins to cause the oceans to rise noticeably. Coastal populations in Europe, North America and China begin semi-orderly migrations inland. In less developed countries flooding kills millions who cannot go anywhere else. An "EU" style trade block forms in North America, called NAFU, the North American Free Union that includes Canada, The United States and parts of Mexico.
2015: The North American military begins hijacking foreign oil tankers leaving South American ports, setting off open hostilities between the two. Retaliations by South American intelligence agencies within the North American states serve as a pretext to justify invasion and NAFU troops attempt to seize key assets within Venezuela and Columbia. The League’s military and intelligence forces, bolstered by modern Chinese arms foil the attacks and inflict severe losses on the North American attackers. The North American command retaliates with a small number of strategic strikes on key SA assets. A militarized zone between the two blocks, in Central America, is established and fortified.
China and India skirmish several times, as do US and Chinese troops at the borders between China and Pakistan/Afghanistan. Tensions between China and India drive the latter into an alliance with the US designed to show a united front against increasing Chinese aggression in the area.
Petrochemical revenues from the Caspian Basin oil beds result in the Central Asian Republics, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, becoming "The New Middle East" as they become more prosperous economically and correspondingly more powerful in the world community. Some of these countries, such as Kazakhstan, use the wealth to industrialize. Russia and China, as well as a few smaller states in the region, form the Former Soviet Alliance, a framework for joint military operations under a single command structure, as well as energy and technology sharing agreements.
2018: Despite high tech solutions and centralized management, the major powers are unable to sustain agricultural yields sufficient to support subsistence levels for their populations. Starvation begins to become commonplace in developed countries.
Economists agree that the global depression has become more or less permanent. Previous economic models that relied upon supply/demand, industrial output and the flexibility of free markets are unable to account for energy depletion, environmental collapse, over population, and societal disintegration. Radical voices claim that the are simply not enough resources to support a recovery for the entire global population and that war is the inevitable outcome.
2019: War occurs, in a lightning move, the FSA strikes through Turkmenistan to seize the last fields of oil in the Caspian; completely bowling over NATO and EU forces stationed in defense of key oil fields and strategic locations. With this attack, China launches a separate attack to seize Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula and the islands of Japan in a swift, unopposed move. With the end of the year, the FSA has completely repossessed strategic locations in the Caucasus and Eastern Europe. Seizing massive swaths of oil and manufacturing land that can be used to re-tool the Russian, Chinese, and Iranian Armies.
2020: The Nuclear Dawn ushers in destruction. In a last ditch attempt to relinquish FSA control of key oil assets, the NATO, EU, and US strategically deploy both Tactical Nuclear Devices and Mega-Nukes in an inferno of atomic might. Thousands die in split seconds as a nuclear barrage is launched into the combat areas, soldiers eviscerated in searing clouds as they fought, tanks turned to melting chunks of irradiated metal in split seconds. As the inferno died down, and the human cost was tallied, it was evident that more missiles were inbound.
2021: With the new year, brings more hell raining down upon the world. North America has been scared by Nuclear Fallout, climate change has destroyed cities on the coastline; beaches now reside tens of miles inland. Through all this, a central government, and a still powerful Military assume control of the last vestiges of defense. On both sides, and in one swoop, the last batches of Nuclear Weapons are discharged toward selected targets world wide. In a final act of complete destruction, humanity obliterates itself as the dominant species on Earth. With billions dead, merely millions exist in isolated batches.
Humanity is an enduring species, they need to survive, they strive to exist. Prior to the final salvo of nuclear weapons, a group of the Military risked everything to huddle a group of nearly 12 hundred people into a massive bunker complex that extended a total 4 kilometers below the surface of the Earth. The complex itself was complete with the needs to sustain human life indefinitely, it was itself a masterpiece of human engineering. Capable of feeding a gross amount of nearly 40 thousand, the number existing currently could survive easily with the supplies set forth. The group sat inside their bunker, going about the daily objectives as the world crumbled around them.
A major drawback to this, though, was once the massive doors closed; and they were locked inside their utopia, they were completely severed from the outside world. This left them alone, separated. But it remained this way, it remained this way for the next five years. 2026 emerged on the calendar, and finally, someone decided to organize a group. A team to journey from the confines of the complex and explore the outside world.
2026: Nearly half a decade has gone by without a word spoken to the outside world; or what is expected to be left of it. 600 Military Personnel were holed up inside what has now been called the Delta Complex, and are contemplating the organization of a group of Military and Civilian personnel.
The bunker, equipped, built, and sustained by the US National Guard several years prior to; is a metaphorical armory of sorts. A mass of weapons, ammunition, and vehicles are stored within it's depths. The Military plans to utilize this in their expedition. Fifteen volunteers are chosen from the Military, and soon, volunteers are accepted from the civilian population.
Soon, a group emerged. By the beginning of Summer, or what it's expected begin would be, the group had trained together and appeared to be ready for their journey.

History; (You can not exist without a past ... And no Super-Heroes, either)
My turn ... my turn!
Name; Robert Archer
Rank; Master Sergeant
Age; 45
Appearance; 6'3 and weighing in at 210 pounds, Archer is an age old replica of a pristine soldier. Fighting close-in with soldiers and personnel much younger than him has left him in a constant form of peak physical performance. Many of his notable campaigns were the Taiwan-Defense as well as the Tajik Offensive in 2019. Preferring to let the mottled brown hair sit loosely on his head, unlike many of his counterparts who prefer to keep it closely shaven and cropped, Archer still maintains his hair at a constant length. Barely ear length.
While calm green eyes are constantly scanning those he interacts with, Archer is a stern man. Rarely ever seen doubting himself openly; calm, cool, and collected, Archer is a specifically taciturn man. Though he feels he has more connections to the Military population, Archer is an avid supporter of many children in the community. Rising in the ranks slowly during his five year stay in the bunker complex.
History; Joining the United States Army at a young age, Archer was a prominent soldier during the Tajik Build-up; Archer was a primary combatant during the festering period that would lead to open combat with the FSA. Upon the initial open warfare, Archer would be one of only twenty soldiers to survive the initial Tac-Nukes that were deployed by the Russians on the Tajik Front. After his brush with death, it was quickly realized by the Military's upper-class that the Tajik Front and all the oil that came with it wasn't worth fighting for.
When the warheads fell on Tajikistan, Archer was in Paris. Moving to engage advanced Russian and Chinese forces in their move on central Europe. This campaign would also end in defeat for the NATO/EU Task Force; it was later learned that a major reason for the NATO defeats at strategic locations in Europe was due mainly to Russia's tendency to outwardly deploy high-kilo tonnage Tactical Warheads on both their own forces and enemy groups. With this distinct objective of the FSA; total domination at any cost, the NATO/EU Task Force was pushed off of mainland Europe, and practically into the sea.
Now, he finds himself in the Delta Complex. Under the command of a Tactical Assistance Squad, one of the few surviving groups of specially trained soldiers that existed before, during, and after the war. Commanding his own squad at the moment, he was one of the names drawn during volunteer operations for the Military Personnel.
