Alex's Art ( )

Postby Alex Tyverian on Thu Mar 31, 2011 1:16 am

Hi there, I'm another of those new people. I thought I'd get started by posting up some art. Most of it's old since I've been in a drawing rut for a while, but maybe some new games will get me rolling again.

First off, a bit of pixel art:

Image
Something I made from scratch for an art class

Image
Another original bit made for a 'Sprite Your Fighting Game Self' contest

Image
An unfinished contest entry piece, the initial body is from Bunnystick.

Non pixel art:

The 'head only' and 'head and shoulders' view is one I'm entirely too fond of. :|

Bigger arts:

Lo, for I am but a simple farm girl
Big headed elf is big headed
Hero mode Homestuck fantroll
My, elfmaiden, that is a very model-esque pose you are striking

Thank you very much! I am a member, and my username is dawntracker, but there's very little of my art on there at the moment. I'll probably be moving more of what I have saved back onto there in the near future, however!

Oh! Silly me, I didn't check this thread before I responded to your Welcome thread. Do you mind if I add you to the list of dA users (in one of the artwork threads) on RPG? I think it would be nice to have other RPG-ers help support each other in our creative endeavors!

Sure thing, I don't mind a bit! In fact I'll start transferring my stuff back over there within the next few days.

Thank you very much, Tsukihana. We'll see how much of it survived this year-long hiatus soon. XD

Homestuuuuuck!

Seeing well-done pixel art always makes me giddy. There isn't much advice I can give you, seeing as I'm not very experienced with the medium. Were these done straight up in MS Paint? One of my favorite pixelists, Ryanide, is known to use a program called GraphicsGale. Try giving that a go, maybe?

Try utilizing some dynamism in your more traditional work. You've got this very crisp, clean style that is highly attractive and pleasing to the eyes, so it would be uber nice to see some movement in those poses. The bust is easy to get comfortable with; now say hello to the full body! Even try keeping up with a sketchbook with you can, and draw anything you see. You'll acquire a looseness in your strokes that may lead to some interesting results.

P.S.: That angel is terrifying.

Keep calm and rave on,

YEEES! Homestuck! I caved in and read it about a week ago and now I'm waiting on MORE MORE MORE.

All my pixel work is done in Photoshop so that I can fiddle with the image in layers before committing, plus it lets me save with .png transparencies. XD The contest theme for the creeptastic angel was simply 'wings' so I took it and ran as far as I could. I might have to finish that some days, even if my time at the dolling forums has ended.

The advice for my traditional art and full figure drawings is primo and some thing I've been neglecting to stretch my brain with. I need to get back into the habit of carrying around a spiral bound sketch pad and not use busts and clothes-horse poses as a crutch. :> Thank you for that.

Faces for me is so hard to draw! I've been working on it. I love how your faces look. I was going to pick one to be my fav, but I am having a hard time deciding. I love all the detail. The second picture near the top with the giant pen for some strange reason keeps drawing me in. I can't stop looking at it. XD
*Stamps awesome rating on all of the pictures*

There, fixes that problem. :P
Keep up the good work, I would love to see more!
