All Summer Long ( )

Postby Paramorex on Mon Mar 23, 2009 2:23 pm

Kayleen pushed the strands of light blonde hair away from her pale face as she slumped back on the couch. Her pale green eyes wandered around, studying each of her three siblings expressions. "Well what the hell are we supposed to do now?" She asked, breaking the momentary silence.

So far their summer was a bumpy one: yesterday afternoon seemed to start off the perfect summer until some old women showed up, ordered them around for a little while and ended up dying in her sleep. Last night her older sister and brother managed to toss the body off of the desserted dock around the corner and it seemed like all of their problems were solved. That was until they realized that they threw the women in with the money their mom had payed her. And now they were screwed. Two months alone with no money pretty much made their perfect summer horrible.

Her gaze wandered past her siblings and towards the large window leading to the front yard. It was a beautiful day out: the sun was shining and the warm July day was made bare able because of the light breeze. All would be good if they could just be out at the beach or something unstead of sitting here. This was all her older siblings faults. If they hadn't been stupid enough to just throw her off without even looking for vakuables - or the money for that matter, none of this would've happened.

    "I have no idea,"
Taylor had been mentally kicking herself since they realised what they'd done. Not only were they royally screwed for the money thing, if anyone found that body and traced it back to them, the older ones at least could wind up in jail, or with a criminal record.

"Look, we can't just sit here, anyway. Money doesn't make itself. We're going to have to get jobs, or something, 'cause there's no way food is just going to magically walk into the house either,"

Massaging her temples and pushing strands of hair back from her face, Taylor struggled to think of what type of job she could get. She wasn't out of high school yet, but her grades were good. She could probably get a summer job at the mall or something, then something else hit her.
"Shit, how are we going to explain to mom we have no money and no babysitter?" She asked, sitting up, looking stricken. True, they still had two months to explain, but they needed to come up with a convincing story. Taylor was guessing they could say the woman ran off with the money and left them, but she wasn't sure her mother'd bite. Why would an old womam steal all her money and abandon the kids she was supposed to look after? It didn't make sense.

They'd thought that getting rid of the body was a smart thing to do, but apparently not. Now everything was over-complicated, and Taylor had no idea what she was supposed to do.

"Well there's no way in hell that I'm getting a job so it looks like it's up to you, Taylor," Spencer said as he sat down on the arm of the couch. "Try to get one that makes some good cash, too. You know, we're running low on beer and it wouldn't hurt to have a few more packs of cigs for the guys," He said, not minding the fact that he could get a job himself too, considering he was seventeen.

He pushed his hand through his black hair before sighing and walking into the kitchen. He threw open the fridge door and peered inside to find a few things left, but not much. He knew the cabinets were also practically empty so his sisters were right. They were screwed.

Spencer walked back into the living room but headed to the front door where he grabbed his skateboard. "I'm heading down to the boardwalk to meet up with some of the guys. Have fun at work, Taylor," He said with a grin before darting out the door and into the summer day.

[[Off Topic: Lari, you aren't from the USA, right? Well me and Noelle are arguing over something stupid x] but she believes that people from Europe are racist towards Americans and she's telling me that we all think that Americans are like Bon Qui Qui in this video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZkdcYlOn5M. Most Americans think they're better than most people, am I right xD?]]

ooc;; Ahaha, you guys are nuts x} Erm.. from my experiance in Florida, we're not all racist towards Americans! xD And I know that's the stereotype, but I did meet a few people who were very up their own ass and looked down on people from Ireland, at least. (We're not all alcoholics dammit!) xD But I don't think that every American is like it.

"Spencer!" Taylor roared, but her brother was gone, and she scowled out the door after him.
"Ugh! I can't believe him!" Spencer was the eldest, for God's sake. True, she was only a year younger, but still!
"Well, if he's going to mess about with this, I'm sure as hell not doing anything. C'mon guys, get your jackets, we're going to boardwalk," Taylor decided. If Spencer was going to goof off, she was going to goof off with him; he wasn't dumping this all on her shoulders.

"Are you guys ready to go?" She asked after a few minutes, getting impatient. She was ready to get outside before the good weather completely disappeared.

[WTF is that video xD. Well, Irish people are just jealous of us Americans and our accents :]. They all sound like the guy from the Lucky Charms commercial anyway. In Ireland can't you have beer when you're like twelve or is that just a rumor?]

"It's your fault anyway, Taylor. You're the one that killed the babysitter," Brittany concluded, tugging at the strands of her straight blonde hair as she moved off of the couch and towards the front door, slipping on her white flip-flops. The ten year old wasn't in much of a position to judge, considering she too was excited that the woman was gone but now that things were starting to crash and burn, her older sister seemed like the perfect person to blame. She really didn't care much about having the perfect summer considering she was ten years old and all she wanted to do was play outside but seeing that her siblings were excited, it seemed fit to be too.

"If we have no money then how are we gonna buy icecream from the icecream man?" Brittany asked, as she pulled a white zip-up Abercrombie sweatshirt on. "You gotta go work, Taylor. You should be the new icecream man or go own a toy store or a candy store," She suggested as she pulled open the front door, waiting for her sisters.

{Bon Qui Qui owns all of ye Irish kids ;D. Irish people think they're so cool xD! I had this Irish counselor at camp and she was such a bitch but moving on, I like the little lucky charms guy and I heard in Europe there is no drinking age but idk. Atleast Americans aren't all red heads ;].}

Kayleen rolled her eyes at her brother's careless and ignorant state of mind. Walking over to the front door, she slid on a pair of sandals and followed her younger sister out the door.

"Taylor didn't kill her, you idiot," Kayleen said, with another roll of her eyes as she walked off of the porch and onto the sidewalk. It was very nice out compared to the last stormy week and Kayleen wanted to take advantage of it so she was glad that Taylor suggested they go to the boardwalk. "She's not owning a stupid toy store, you retard. She's only sixteen," She said, pulling her light pair up into a ponytail.

ooc; Lies! xD Wtf, drinking when we're 12? Hahah, noo xD Some people do it, like, but I wouldn't xD We do not sound like the guy in the Luck Charms commerical! People in Belfast are so special we actually have our own accent! This is what we apparently sound like; but we're not as bad as him, unless we exagerate xD. We do say "here be's me" a lot though xD Haha, wait, this song mentions my school! :o
Hey! We're not all gingers! I'm a brunette, thanks! xD

"Shut up, Brittany," Taylor said, ushering her and Kayleen out the door and locking it behind them.
"Look, don't worry about; I'll sort something out for us, somehow, and we'll get through this. Just leave it to me and Spence, alright?" She told him, as they started down the street.

It didn't take long for them to reach the boardwalk, and once they reached it, Taylor drifted away from her sisters, on the lookout for Spencer. Spotting his friends, she approached them, hands in her jacket pocket.
"Oi!" She yelled as she appraoched them. "Have any of you seen Spencer?"

[ Well, don't worry guys. I don't sound as idiotic as Lari does ;D. ]

Spencer was sitting ontop of the boardwalk railing, smoking a cigarette with his friends when he heard his sister's voice from behind. A few of his friends whistled as she approached them and Spencer turned around, looking at her with annoyance.

"What'd you want?" He asked as he pushed through his friends towards her, tossing his cigarette onto the sand below the deck. "Find yourself a job yet? You know, they're hiring down at the amusement park. You might want to check it out. We're going to need some quick money for a party tonight so get on it fast," He said beforing quickly moving towards the back of his group in hopes that his sister would just leave him alone.

He knew he was the oldest in the family and he should take responsibility but it was his summer and he wasn't going to work. If he did get a job he knew Taylor would force him to use some of it to help the family anyway and that would be a waste of time if he couldn't buy alcohol with it.

ooc; =o Spencer, I'm hurt! Haha, no I'm not, I forgive you xD

"Spencer. Back here. Now,"

When her brother didn't listen to her, she followed him through the crowd of his friends and grabbed his arm, lowering her voice so only he could hear her.
"Spence this is serious. I can't do this on my own. You have to help me," She let go of his arm then, walking away from him.
"If I get a job, you get one. Or I'll kill you," She called over her shoulder, before colliding with one of his friends.

"Sorry," She muttered, still focused on finding a job and getting back the money they'd dumped in water.

[ :D That's a cute accent! I want an English one. I don't really have an accent but I talk like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TywmpMQYojs. New Yorker's have major accents but us Cali kids don't :]. ]

Brittany smiled at the familiar sight of the boardwalk: the rushing sounds of waves, the smell of the ocean and cotton candy, laughter of kids and the sound of carnival music. She looked back around to find that Taylor wasn't with them anymore and she eventually spotted her older sister pushing her way through a crowd of boys. She saw Spencer and knew they must be his obnoxious friends.

She crossed her arms until her sister finally arrived back. "I want to go play in the arcade then get pizza," Brittany said, grabbing onto Taylor's arm so she would listen. "Lemme have some money!"

[I'm from New York but I talk like that guy too. x] We're having the most off topic conversation.]

Kayleen stood with Brittany, waiting for Taylor to return. She watched as she stormed over to Spencer's friends and watched as Spencer appeared from the crowd before quickly returning into the pack. She couldn't help but to laugh as Taylor rammed into some guy.

Kayleen sighed dramatically as Brittany spoke. "No. Taylor, tell her no. We aren't wasting any money on stupid arcade games," She ordered as she looked over at her older sister. Brittany was a pain in the ass when she didn't get her way and Kayleen knew she was probably going to throw a fit or something but if they had no money coming in, they weren't going to waste what they did have on stupid games.

Spencer just grinned at Taylor in an amused, non-caring way as she told him how he needed to get a job. Luckily, she didn't stick around to chat and soon she was already leaving the group, turning around only to yell about how she'd kill him if he didn't.
"Screw you," He yelled back at her as he leaned back agaisnt the railing.

Once she was gone, he turned to the friends that weren't high and pulled the white and black hat off of his head before quickly putting it back on. "Guys, I think I'm going to have to get a fucking job," He said unwillingly. His friends just laughed, thinking he wasn't serious but he was.

Taylor threw a glare back at her brother and his friends when she heard Spencer yell 'Screw you'. Her brother annoyed the hell out of her sometimes, and his friends weren't exactly the nicest either.
"Kayleen's right, Brittany, we haven't got any money anyway; we can't buy anything here, or play any games. I came down here to find a job. Go stay with Spencer, just for a bit, I'll be back soon,"

Turning away from them, she noticed an ad in the window of one of the shops, looking for staff. Perfect. Walking into the shop, she walked up to the counter. Time to land herself an interview. And if this didn't work, she could use her guitar and busk for money on the boardwalk.

"Mom always lets me," Brittany replied as she crossed her arms, shooting Kayleen a dirty look. She looked over at the group where Spencer was and then back around at the boardwalk. She knew Spencer wouldn't want them hanging around with his friends and that wasn't Brittany's ideal day either. Not caring that Taylor would probably be back soon, Brittany headed down the boardwalk towards the amusement park.

Why should I have to listen to Taylor anyway? It's not like she's the babysitter.

Carnival music filled the air and the smell of popcorn and cotton candy grew stronger. Carnival games, spinning teacups, small rollercoasters and the large ferris wheel all came into sight but Brittany turned into the arcade. Loud, booming music filled the room as kids of all ages ran around holding tickets and tokens. A young boy, probably only three or four was holding a cup filled with the golden tockets that powered the arcade machines. After quickly glancing around, Brittany was surprised not to find a parent around, and she quickly snatched the cup from the boy's hands. After running to the back, more crowded area, she dumped the tokens into her pocker and tossed the cup onto the ground.

She walked over to the ski-ball machine and slipped a token into the slot.

Piece of cake.

Justin turned slightly as Spencer's sister walked into his shoulder and then brushed past him. He'd never really noticed her before; she wasn't a girl, she was a sister. But for the first time, he seemed to see her blonde hair and just how pretty she was. For a moment, he was lost in a world of entirely new thought.

Pulling himself back together with an abrupt shake of his head, he realized that Spencer's older sister had disappeared, and Spencer himself was bemoaning the fact that he might have to find a job. The others laughed, but Justin shrugged.

"I have a job," he said. He hadn't known Spencer as long as the others; Justin was relatively new in town, and was a year older than them, and he suspected that they only let him hang out with them out of pity, considering that he had no other friends in this new place to spend the summer with. He was going to have to fix that soon; he knew that he didn't really belong in this group, where half of them were constantly high. "It's not that bad, you know."

He worked in the garage that his dad had opened, helping to fix cars. He was starting college soon, and he was saving up for a car of his own and other important things like that. He was determined to make this summer a good one, but it was hard when his only 'friends' were a bunch of guys who were very different from him.

"I can maybe ask my dad to look into giving you one, if you want." Immediately, he wished he hadn't said it. Would Spencer be reliable? He didn't know him well enough to vouch for him, and his dad would kill him if one of his friends messed anything up.

((OOC;; -jumps into the argument XD -
I'm from England, and we don't think that all Americans act like the girl in that video.
But don't you all think that we sound like the Queen?
'Cause I do not sound anything like that XD .
But the only video I have where you can hear the Middlesbrough accent is an insane one of one of my science teachers, (ask Lari, she's seen it XD).))

Spencer raised an eyebrow as he caught Justin checking out his sister. Justin was a cool guy from what Spencer knew but he was really the only one in the group who actually wanted to do something with their life. Maybe he seemed a bit more mature too, Spencer didn't really know. But now he was ready to laugh at the guy. Liking his sister? I mean, yeah, Taylor did have guys liking her often but Justin was the last guy Spencer would think.

He shrugged at the thought of working with cars. "I don't know shit about cars but it sure as hell beats working at McDonalds. If you can hook me up than I appreciate it but if you can't than atleast I've got a wittness that I attempted to get a job," He said. "How much does it pay? I don't need a lot, just enough for some booze." He hoped the question of why he didn't have money from his mom wouldn't come up. He would be stuck explaining the entire situation and then come out looking like the jack-ass for leaving his sister to pay for all of the real needs.

[[ Well, atleast we can all agree that people from Ireland are better, excluding Lari's type :D ]]

Shit. Justin cursed inwardly, but he didn't say anything out loud. Instead, he smiled tightly and nodded. "I'll see what my dad says. I'm not sure how much he'll start you off with; you'll have to talk to him about that. If you don't know much about cars, it might not be for you though, Spence," he added. "I mean, it's mainly fixing them and stuff, and if you mess anything up, my dad'll kill you. I can help you, though."

Crap! Why did he keep advertising this job? He should have left it at that; the final sentence had blurted out of his mouth before he could stop it and now suddenly it looked appealing again, when he'd been aiming for the opposite effect.

The sunlight was glaring off the bright colours of the various stalls, shops and amusement rides nearby, and it was starting to give him a bit of a headache. Part of him didn't like the hustle and bustle of the boardwalk; he wasn't a shorts and t-shirt kind of guy, and the stifling heat out here made wearing his usual jeans, jacket and Converse very uncomfortable. It didn't stop him from doing it, but he wished that the weather would just cool itself down a little bit.

"It'd be enough for some booze, don't worry," he added, and then cursed himself all over again.

"Be quick," Kayleen yelled as she watched Taylor walk off, telling them to stay with Spencer. Once her older sister was out of sight, Brittany walked off without saying anything. She was headed towards the amusement area obviously and Kayleen wasn't in the mood to have to argue with her. After yelling at her to stop a few times she gave up and walked over to where Brittany and Taylor had headed before getting lost in crowds.

She sat down on an empty bench looking out at the beach. The waves were crashing and the sun was shining, a perfect summer day. But this summer wasn't turning out perfect. They had no money, Taylor was getting a job and Spencer wouldn't be home even if he didn't get a job leaving Kayleen with Brittany. That basically equalled hell.

ooc; D: Spencer! -headbutts- Stop being meann! xD

Taylor left the shop about half an hour later, grinning. She'd landed herself an interview, but they still needed money for food for that night; there was hardly anything in the house. Sneaking a glance at Spencer, she realised he could probably watch Kayleen and Brittant for twenty minutes; he was the oldest anyway, it was his responsibility more than hers. And she'd only be twenty minutes. Ten minutes to the house, ten minutes back, easy. Quickly, she set off towards their home.

- - - - - - - -

Fifteen minutes later she was back, shouldering a guitar case that held her acoustic. She had an electric as well, but acoustics were better for busking; easier to hear without amps. Picking a fairly busy spot on the boardwalk, she looked around for her siblings. Spencer was still with his friends, Kayleen was on the beach.. Brittany had probably wandered round to the arcade to watch the other kids, she could go get her later.

Leaving the case open, she tuned her guitar, giving it a test strum, before leaning against the boardwalk railings and strumming the opening bars of one of her favourite songs. She could see people starting to stop and stare, and a few threw money into her case, but she knew singing would get her more money.

"You said the way my blue eyes shine put those Georgia stars to shame, and I said, 'That's a lie'.."

OOC: My apologies *cough* ;]. This post is going to suck because I'm on an iPhone.

"Your old man gonna make me work long hours?" Spencer asked, becoming a bit more interested in the job. Money was what he really wanted but if he was going to be working all day there would be no point in it.

He looked around, noticing his sister walk by with a guitar case. A grin fell upon his face as he moved back through the crowd of friends and over to where she had settled herself. People passing drops in bills and coins as she sang and played the guitar. This would be perfect.

He leaned over, grabbing a handleful of the money. "Keep it up and we'll be good for the summer," He said, walking back over to where his friends stood. "Man, I won't be needing that job until next week. Taylor'll let me have some of the cash I didn't already take for the booze."
