“The population is demanding the quarantine of the afflicted, my liege,” one of the court magicians explained, the pharaoh’s lips pursing.
“Indeed; how many are with the disease?” the pharaoh wondered, his gaze slipping to another.
“Nearly half the city; at this rate, Memphis will fall within weeks,” a priest continued, his elderly face creasing with anxiety.
“Surely the gods have abandoned us,” the pharaoh lamented, a hand resting on his face. “Leave me!”
“Your Highness, perhaps a tribute to Ra would do the city some good…it would take their minds off their troubles and hopefully find us a panacea for the epidemic,” the vizier suggested, the pharaoh’s face still in his hands.
“Ra? Ra has abandoned his city…why should I pay homage to such a being?” the pharaoh argued, glaring.
“Far be it from me to lecture his Majesty, but remember your place among the gods,” the vizier warned, the pharaoh’s face turning scarlet with anger.
“Tch, I am a god,” the pharaoh answered haughtily, sitting back in his throne. “Prepare for a ceremony; We will honor Thoth, and ask for his wisdom in procuring a cure for this disease…we must also venerate the departed…and hope that they will pass Ma’at’s test,” the pharaoh finished, the vizier nodding.
“We do need to finish these festivities before she gets here,” the vizier continued, the pharaoh’s eyes widening slightly.
“I had nearly forgotten of her arrival…,” the pharaoh uttered, his face glowering. “Even in quiet death my father’s words lead me still like a camel to water. I’d rather die than follow him,” the pharaoh finished darkly, his hand balling into a fist before the vizier suppressed a sigh and exited the chamber.
This roleplay takes place in early Egyptian history when the gods and myths were still believed to be real and influential in human affairs. Roughly speaking, the Egyptian empire lasted through the 2000s B.C.E. through the first century C.E. when it was conquered by the Romans.
About the Character Skeleton: Since this is taking place in Egypt, please do not create a character with blond hair or blue eyes. They are hereditarily not present, but if you can think of some anomaly to give your character these features, please PM me the reasoning before creating your character.
The disease is highly contagious, hence why the people of Memphis rally for the victims of said disease to be quarantined. Symptoms include chronic headaches, vertigo, physical weakness, sensitivity to touch, dilated eyes, and finally hallucinations. The reason why so many have died stems from the hallucinations; they are typically fatal, as the person interacts in the hallucinations and tend to stumble into grave situations in reality. Also, if you are going to create a character inflicted with the disease, please make them a civilian, slave, or soldier. Those that are blatantly afflicted are usually kept in temples or shrines, and are kept away from the populous by the priests.
Citizen: A typical, inhabitant of the capital of Egypt, Memphis. These people possess no divining abilities or outstanding skills; they live modestly.
Servant: A group of persons who perform menial tasks in the pharaoh’s palace or some other ‘aristocrat’s’ home.
Slave: A group of persons who are absolutely subject to any other person, save for another slave. Regardless of gender, slaves are forced to perform strenuous and physical labors.
Priest: A group of persons (usually male, depending on the god) who divine the presence of said god within their temple and relay the god’s will, oracles, omens, and powers to the pharaoh and the kingdom. Most priests do not leave the sanctuary of their god’s shrines after entering, save the High Priest who frequently visits the palace.
Astrologer: A group of persons (again, usually male) who divine extraordinary happenings by observing the heavenly bodies and their movements periodically. They are more of a private sect of society, and becoming an astrologer is not an easy task. A select few astrologers also relay their findings to the pharaoh.
Soldier: Another type of servant, a soldier protects his homeland, his people and his patronized deity with nothing short of his life, should the need arise. Soldiers, in this age, are not needed too terribly, since Egypt is not at war. However, soldiers still patrols borders and protect the entrance to the city and the pharaoh’s palace.

The plot will begin on the day of the ceremonies honoring Thoth and the departed. Everyone will be going by order of the pharaoh, save for some priests, soldiers, and astrologers. I will be playing the pharaoh. The vizier (second-in-command), high priest, and few royal astrologer slots are open if anyone wishes to play them. If not, I will take the job(s) myself. After the ceremony, a few new things will be introduced…some fantasy aspects to the roleplay. I will go into better explanation as the roleplay goes along.
1. This is not a completely romance-based Roleplay. While it is definitely all right for your characters to be romantically involved, please follow the board rules – No cybering.
2. I don’t think god-modding will be a large issue here. If you have any concerns let me know.
3. The length of your post needs to be at least a paragraph. I always type till the red font at the top of the Reply box turns green.
4. Multiple characters are allowed, but please be certain you are able to handle them all. I will set a maximum of 4.
5. I honestly don't care about much profanity, so long as it isn't the entire post ^^;
I tried to make this roleplay as historically accurate as possible. Sadly, I have not taken a class or freely studied ancient Egyptian history, so I understand that I may have gotten a few aspects of Egyptian life incorrectly. If you have a huge problem with something, PM me and let me know. Any help is encouraged and appreciated. **Thanks to Village Alchemist for some history lessons ^^; **
Please try to even out character genders…I realize some classes are more geared towards men than women, but I can’t help that…blame the patriarchal, sexist Egyptians! xD
No, you do not need to know any Egyptian history for this roleplay. Make it up if you don’t know. If you really want to be accurate, you can always look it up somewhere online…
I will be adding a new character after the ceremonies, and some political turmoil ought to add nicely to the mix. Please post your characters in here, and I will let you know if you're accepted. When I receive a few accepted people, I will begin the IC thread.

(just to give a general idea for the look I'm going for)
