They were told it simply couldn't happen, a 'Zombie Outbreak'. They were told it was pure science fiction, a bunch of mumbo-jumbo from some media culture intent on b-grade horror movies. It just was not possible.
Until an outbreak in the Amazon.
A group of Red Cross workers were sent into the Amazon to treat an outbreak of what they were told was Malaria. It was a simple drop-treat-leave operation until they found something more in the jungles. Something not alive but not dead. Those who succumbed to the disease were piled in the center of the small village to be burnt. The next morning, the Red Cross members returned to the village to see the pile was gone and blood was everywhere.
It was the beginning of the nightmare.
Something bit the Team Leader. Something killed a medic. The helicopter pulled out of the jungles and returned to the states in a panic.
The Team Leader died the next day in a Florida hospital. He 'woke up' in the morgue. The virus spread quickly, before anyone could stop it.
Its been two years since then. The very old and the very young no longer exist in this zombie infected world. It has become a post-apocalyptic wasteland and word has it that England has been infected by survivors from the Americas. Radios are the only source of communication. Electricity has long since vanished from United States soil, all cell phones have died, computers are no longer functioning though the internet is still running well. Completely cut off from the world, America can only hope Her brash ways in the past are forgiven and other countries feel the need to help, though none has arrived for three years. Canada's borders are patrolled by the remaining US Military, keeping out the infected and uninfected alike. Rumor has spread through remaining survivors that the infection has been in Canada for months now, but still each day people try to hop the boarder despite the hoards of zombies drowning the wall.
With no communications, no electricity, America has taken a vicious hit it can not hope to recover from.
