I'm tired of all these new topics saying "Hi", "Heya", "I'm new", and all that. It's a waste of topic space and all it does is provide someone with a fancy way of introducing themselves. Please, if you have to go to elegant lengths to introduce yourself, do it without creating your own topic. First, introduce yourself on someone else's board. This way you pick up friends and maybe get a few people to RP with. Then, create a topic and start RPing with your new friends.

No offense, Peryite, but you're kinda told to make an intro post. Besides it telling you on the front page, in the "Welcome Desk" description, the RPG User Manual, found in the main lobby, says this:

"So, what should I do?
If you are a new member, go take a look around, say hi to us all at the Welcome Desk so we know you are here."

What you suggested, posting their self-introduction in another person's thread, is not only less effective, but also rude. When I start a thread, it's usually to roleplay. I don't want someone jumping in saying: "Hello. I'm John Doe, live in such-and-such place, and want to be this when I grow up. Who wants to be my friend?" That's what I call severe disrespect. Please keep your self-introduction where it belongs, and don't waste my time by trying to force yourself on me. If I want to meet you, I'll go to the Welcome Desk like everyone else and read your intro there.

Yeah, it would be kind of disrespectful to interrupt an onoing RP, that way. Perhaps just PMing the leader, introducing yourself, and asing to join the RP would be better, as it wouldn't interrupt the flow.

I understand the annoyance of when people begin a RP, post for a lil, then stop responding, but please understand.........it isn't always their fault.

I'm guilty as charged of doing this a few times, but I have quite a few medical problems from old injuries that sometimes keep me from posting. I don't always have time to post what is going on, and when I'll be back.

There are also scheduled and unscheduled trips.

I've seen a few people post that a person shouldn't join a rp if they know that they're going on a trip, but I totally find that to be a BS remark. People want to join a rp, let them. Aslong as they let the GM know that they'll be gone for a lil, I find it fine. Sure, it slows the story down and people are often upset with this, but you can't control with a person's life.

So deal with it.

You can have more than one main character. Most Role-plays, movies, and stories do. The creator doesn't have to be the main character. Stop being close-minded.

When you assert yourself as the dominant rper when it's not your rp you might as well be an rp hog.
Another thing, if you are someone with a computer curfew less then two hours.

Like, someone takes more than 30 seconds to give you your meal, take an order, or even say hello to you, I imagine you saying something like, "DON'T WORK AT MC`DONALDS IF YOU CAN'T SERVE FAST FOOD FAST!" "HURRY UP! I'VE GOT TO GET BACK TO RPG WITHIN' 3 MINUTES SO I CAN REFRESH PAGES AND MAKE A POST!" Your life has to suck.

You obviously do not like the Welcome Desk section of RolePlayGateway. I really don't see any logic in your statement, but whatever. I'm not going to check all old and/or new topics to see who all has joined. The new topic that's designated for that person, the newcomer, who has never been seen before, makes themselves noticed on the boards and can get help if needed. What a moron.

Those of you who were quoted have some serious issues and should probably take a few hours, days, weeks, and months away from Role-playing. You're turning something fun into something far too serious than it's meant to be.

I just think it's stupid to waste topic space with introductions. My reponse to Ghost x1000 has balance, and if that's not good enough for you, Matthias, too bad. And if you think most RPs are as you quote, "shit", why do you RP? Stick to real life and stop advising others.

Aside from his flaming (then again, THIS. IS. FLAME WARS!), he's actually quite right. There's no such thing as "wasting topic space." If you don't like seeing welcome topics -- DON'T READ THE WELCOME DESK.

Damn, that was simple.

I might also add that the usage of the word "most" implies there are SOME RPs he doesn't believe to be shit (Ghalerion, for one) and therefore, he has every reason to RP.

Quite right, I have to agree with both Matthias and Zhelir, first let's anwer ultimak: Not everybody wants to just post as soon as the person before has. Some like to take the time to study it if its well written, percept what the character is feeling, BUILD THEIR NEXT POST GODAMNIT ! A two second response of "yeah, let's go" said bob the hog doesn't work, it's not good RPing, its crap. Do it on a chat room RP, not something serious like this.

You also gotta remember that some people have REAL LIVES (*shocked*), JOBS (*gasp*), OTHER INTERESTS (*falls dead*). Just because some people (me included at the mo) don't have a life, doesn't mean you're allowed to shout at them for it. RPing comes second to living, some people can't seem to work it out. And just because they're not on often, doesn't mean they can't RP, that is the single most tyrannical comment of this whole forum: some people post brilliantly, proper novel-quality, they also happen to be older than you and have to get their daily bread someway other than thanks to their momma.

As for intros, the only thing I don't like about them is that they're all "another newb here" or "hi, new here"; make it fun, add a little humour and its fine with me. That's all, everybody is allowed to say they're new here and to get welcomed. To be new to this type of site and to pass unnoticed, it's a little demeaning.

1st. I only call members who are experts at posting good posts and fast.

2nd. I didnt say you couldnt have a life i just said as long as you posted that day you were fine.

Theirfore quit talking about me before something bad happens. Im not in the mood this morining. I stayed up all night at the hospital so i really dont want to argue with you. :evil:

I'm not going to argue with anybody. I believe all these "Heys" and all that topics are still a waste of space. I'm not going to change my mind, so I don't want anybody with a red, green, blue, or regular username trying to change my mind. I know people have lives, and I'm not shouting at them about it. That's fine, and so are vacations. I don't demand anything from anybody, and people have the right to express opinions. That's all I have to say.

ultimak, you gotta understand that these are Flame Wars, if you don't want to argue, you should've saved your post for another day, 'cos whatever you say in here is bound to be argued about by somebody. Besides, threatening is not gonna work, especially over the internet ! So don't bother doing it, you just look like a bigger imbecile.

Now, replying to your second argument, because I didn't understand your first one: Even in what you're saying, you're driving yourself further into your little hole of "nolifeness": you see, RPs can function perfectly well, be of Epic and grand proportions, with absolutely magnificent writing, even if the people within can only post once every TWO DAYS (OMG !!!), it only depends on the other RPers being indulgent enough to wait for that person's post. If it's crap, they'll probably slowly discard you as a bad RPer that never posts.

As for the topic being old, all the posts on this page date from the 1st or 2nd of June, old, yeah ... I know what you mean, but unless there's a huge time gap, you can't call it old.

Yes, ignoring something is often the best way, turn the other cheek as the English say, that doesn't make any more mature than me though, Flame Wars are meant for argueing (that's more than just rowing), and that's just what I did, and as I said: you don't wanna start an argument, don't discuss something in Flame Wars.

No, that's a lie, I am. Because your point of view, to be perfectly honest, is idiotic. The forum they're in is the WELCOME DESK. You are told at multiple points to POST A TOPIC INTRODUCING YOURSELF IN THE WELCOME DESK. Once again I say, THERE IS NO WASTING TOPIC SPACE. Our host does not allot us a specific amount of topics we can put up; if we would, topics like this would get deleted far sooner than topics introducing new members.

So, in summation, stay out of the Welcome Desk forum and GET OVER IT.

I do so love this classic argument: Subject A Puts out an opinion in Flame Wars. Any how, I suposed my "get over it" was really rather pointless. For one, I know full well you won't, but will continue to piss and moan because the Earth rotates and people post in the correct forums. For another, I don't want you to get over it, I much more enjoy beating a dead horse.

Zhelir is not acting like a child. As was previously stated, this is the Flame Wars part of the site and arguing is practically encouraged in here as long as it is somewhat intelligent and people have evidence to back up their claims. So if you want someone to stop arguing with you, then simply stop replying and/or reading a thread where people are doing just that. It's very simple, really.

As for the argument here, I completely agree with Zhelir, Matthias, and Selothi on every single point that they've made. This being the Flame Wars forum, you have every right to argue, but it makes much more sense to have something work arguing and/or complaining about or to have more evidence to back up your claims.

I just found this, and to quote myself, this thread is the true form of Neckbeards. I bet that half the people saying YOU MUST POST OR DIE ONE!!ONE have never worked a day in their lives, with real jobs, real business decisions, real LIVES, and what nots.
