Apocalyptica: The End of Days [IC] ( )

Postby Eternity on Sun Jul 06, 2008 7:01 pm

The sky was black, as usual. Street lights flickered, barely able to stay on, their bulbs having not been changed in probably decades. The streets were dusty, and cracked by uprooting weeds. Even the sound of bickering people in the alleys could be heard. I hated it.

There was always something about this place that put me in a thoughtful mood. Walking down these lonely streets and seeing all the hurting people. And looking up to see what I could of the Shadow of Days to Come. Sometimes, walking down this very street, I would stop and stare at the beast for hours. Wondering why this world? Where did it come from? And why was I so interested? And it was around that time that I had started having the odd dreams, or nightmares persay, about this very shadow.

Tonight was like any other night. I was on my way back home from my evening job, tired and ready for sleep. Especially because today was a busy day. I sold 3 cell phones, all within the same group of associates. The set was re-wired and set up to work only for the other three so far, and if they wanted to get my personal signal attached, they could, allowing them to communicate with the other people of Earth who had their hands on one of my creations.
Plus I did a lot more than sell those. I finished working on another EM Pistol. Just like the one I had locked up in my apartment. It had taken me forever to create another one mimicking the design my mother provided for my first one! But it was complete, and it's price was set today as well- $25,000. A little high, but for a weapon specially designed to counter any previous decade police and Shadow-Spawn type weaponry, well, it was worth every penny.

I brought my eyes back to what lay ahead of me, seeing my apartment complex in the distance. It was the only thing that didn't look so bad in this neighborhood. I pulled the fuzzy black hood closer around my face and continued...

Home. My home. I threw my bag of goodies on the kitchen table after locking up, then threw my coat to the sofa. As I walked to my bedroom, I pulled off the other articles of clothing, leaving only a thin white tank top and burgendy feminine boy shorts. By the time I reached my bed, I was happily able to crash.

Closing my eyes and rolling over, I was about to doze off. I stretched my arms out, and let the soothing purr of my two cats- Apollo and Hera- wash over my ears. As I let myself begin to dream, I smiled at the feel of the two felines nuzzling at my sides...

But dreams aren't always as peaceful as the days that come before them...

"Wait!" I can scream still, but no one can hear me. "Wait!" how many times will I have to call them?
"Stop!"
Before I could do anything else, everything stopped. The two other-worldly creatures stopped and faced me.
"As the Omen will stand, so does the tide, as the Ressurection revives, who will you side?"
No answer from me. The voice was in my head as two creatures turned their faces to see me. One seemed angelic, and the other demonic.
How?
The Shadow of Days to Come began to stir, the deep groan echoing through the air. The Omen and the Ressurection fell to their knees, and so did I.
"Before it is too late, you must!" the voice said again...

I ripped myself upward from the bed. It was daytime now, well, we called it False Light. The False Light had come faster since my dream, or nightmare, was odd and disturbing. Sweat dripped from my body as my two cats, Apollo- the flame point boy- and his twin sister, Hera- the blue-point girl- nuzzled against my stomach with a humming purr. It almost sounded like the Shadow of Days to Come, except it was far from frightening.

I was up and making myself breakfast. Tearing open the third floor window, I looked outside.
Exactly like last night. It never changes. Only when it storms. And even then, it's not much difference.

Every day was a day shaded by the great shadow.
Every night was a dream of inhuman people fighting and the shadow finally taking in the world.

Was there ever any end?

"Huh. Whats this now?" A man in a black hat continued shouted "Come on now, place your bets!" It was yet again dark. Just like its always been. I've been dirt poor for some time now. Its just recently I've come to town, nice town really. I was taken in by a young couple about my age. The only reason they took me in was for the fact they are....just like me, Omen. As long as I paid rent I could stay. A sign said "Are you a fighter? Come down a prove it! Reward is 25,000,000."
"Thats alot of money! Sign me up!" but I failed to read the rest. "there will be death. Have strong stomaches".....

As I walked in I noticed a short line of people had guns. After sign-ups they chose the first two. Me, and some drifter named Vash The something, I don't remember. "Where's my wooden sword?" "Why use wood when you have a real one there" said the anouncer. Before I could move Vash pulls out his gun ready to shoot. Not thinking a lunged in the air, my sword unsheethed and brought my sword down on his wrist. What came next was the expected. His hand was gone. Toppling to the ground he was fighting back tears. "Round one! OVER!" The announser shouted. I was told Vash would be taken care of. My next match wasn't for a few days so I headed home. In a hurry for Rose's cooking (Rose was the person who asked if I needed a home.) and Jack's humor I ran.

As I got home I saw Rose at the door step feeding stray cats. "You know they come back if you feed them." "Just like you I guess." We laughed. We went inside to find Jack passed out on the couch. He was shirtless too. "Stay here." I said "I got an idea." I grabbed a bucket of red, black, and white paint. After about an hour of painting my master peice was complete. I had painted a tux that covered his entire body. Walking to my room I hear the faint sound of Rose's laughter as Jack had waken up. Falling to my bed I had all my clothes on. "I hope Vash is alright."

With that thought he went to sleep.

Anthony fell to the ground panting. The sound of running feet were close behind him, and getting closer. All he tried to do was take a loaf of bread. He hadn't eaten in a quite some time, and that bread was the only food he had seen. Luckily, he had succeded in grabbing the bread and stuffed it under his jacket.

"I think he went this way!" one of the voices yelled.

Getting to his feet, Anthony took off again. Coming to a stop, he found a fire escape ladder and started to climb. Resting at the top of the roof, he began to eat his bread. It wasn't warm, and it was a day or two old, but it felt good on such an empty stomach.

After finishing his bread, he made his way back down the ladder and walked out of the alley. It was hard to tell if there was anyone around because of the lack of light, but he had learned to use his other senses since all the light left the planet. Perking his ears up, he didn't hear any sound of anyone around him, and started to walk and find a place to sleep.

Finding a nearby alley that seemed safer than the rest of the place, he sat down to calm down. Taking the claymore off his back, he laid it down next to him and set his wrench, that he named Lucy, next to that. Laying down, he attempted to sleep, but was full of fear of being caught by the group of kids he had taken the bread from. He was also afraid of being mauled by a dog or something. Eventually though, sleep overcame him.

Re: Apocalyptica: The End of Days [IC] ( )

I felt my head swirl about, ransacking the frequent dreams about the Shadow of Days to Come. The living room was more inviting than the kitchen, the soft topaz-coloured couch very comfortable as I laid back onto it.

Again- my cats leapt up and laid beside my legs. I was all they ever knew, and since I found them, they've been the same to me. I folded my arms behind my head and turned to look at the open laptop on the table. That was another thing I could live without.
Ever since a man named Duprix went across the States and created an underground fiber-obtics network, the internet system was rebuilt. But it was not like before the Shadow came though, this was something that costed a lot and was usually owned by either high ranking S.D.C. Officials, big business workers, or rebellion unions. I did not fit into any of these categories, but I used it to keep a constant update on technical supplies, S.D.C. movements, rebellion status, weapon upgrades, and of course- whether the economy was fitting for my area of expertise.

I reached over and tapped the mouse pad and the screen lit up.
The first thing I saw was that the Shadow had created another disaster. . .

Today, August 13th, another selection of Shadow Spawn have been dropped on the City of Lucras. The C.L (short for City of Lucras) has sent out the S. Spawn Task Force to exterminate this threat, but in the effort, many soldiers have already lost their lives.
Rumor has it, that the increased activity of the Shadow of Days to Come indicates that the storm is coming. Could this be the end of days?

I quickly hit the "x" in the top corner, I couldn't read any more. Closing the laptop I stood up and decided to dress.
After clothing myself in a black tank top, blue-jeans, beige and violet sneakers, and my simple jacket with a fur-rimmed hood, I stepped outside. False Light had come, but it was just as dangerous as the night. I had my father's folding dagger nestled in my coat pocket in case danger were to find it's way to me. But first, I had a deal to make. Out by the fight club, before the fights were arranged.

Almost there, passing through the rough and impoverished side of the C.L., I saw someone in the distance. Down from a roof, and into an alley. I let my curiosity take me from there.

I found myself hiding at the corner, almost afraid to look. But I did it, I turned and saw him- a boy, somewhat frightened.
"Hello?"

Anthony jumped awake as he heard someone speak. The first thing he did was jump to his feet and grab his wrench, his claymore not far away.

"Who's there?"

Lucy was the closest thing he had to a friend, and he had just found his claymore a couple days ago. He would apply the same rule to his claymore. He wouldn't name it until he killed someone with it.

Nobody answered him, so he hollared again.

"Hello? What do you want?"

I heard him the first time and felt to shocked to respond quickly. Then he spoke again-
"Yes, yes, I'm here. I don't want to hurt you, I was just wondering why you are... here in this alley?" I asked.
I brushed my silky strawberry hair behind my ear and came into the opening of the alley, holding my hands up.

After realizing that the girl didn't want to hurt him, he put Lucy in his back pocket and strapped his claymore around his back.

"Why am I here? I'm here because I don't have the luxury of a nice cozy home, that's why. What about you? Why are you here?"

Anthony crossed his arms and leaned against the wall of the alley. He wasn't sure what brought this sudden change in his attitude, but whatever.

I listened to his words and felt the small bite they brought with him.
"I'm here because I have to survive. I am doing what I must to make it." I let the harshness come back around. Then I wiped the sting from my voice.
"What is your name?"

"Anthony. And yours?"

Anthony let the attitude go and tried to warm up to her. Who know? Maybe she had a home and food and water of her own and he could crash at her place.

"Jennifer" I said softly. He looked homeless, maybe scared due to the protective attitude.
"Where are you going?" I thought that if it came down to it, I would offer him house and home. There was something about him that seemed familiar. Like maybe I'd seen in him in one of my dreams...

"Wherever I end up honestly."

He ran his hand through his hair. Anthony never really had a destination in mind when he traveled, he just traveled.

I could only nod. But that wasn't my response for long. I looked back towards my apartment, which wasn't far. He was young, and homeless, and hungry! But most of all, the more I looked at him, the more I let my eyes dwindle on his figure and face, the more I felt I recognized him from my dreams. One of many.

"Come with me, I have a place and food."
I motioned my hand and turned back to the sidewalk.

What did I just do?

Anthony was shocked, greateful, yet hesitant. He hadn't talked to anyone so kind before and carried on an actuall conversation. Greatful for the invitation to shelter and food. Hesitant, because he wasn't sure if he should trust her, or anyone. Then again, he was a fast runner if his life was threatened, and she honestly didn't look that tough.

"Thank you so much. I owe you one Jennifer."

Letting himself off the wall, he followed Jennifer to her apartment.

"We have another one Miles"

It was Davy, one of the organisers of the fight club. I had stumbled across him a few years ago when I was a bit down on my luck and Davy was in nearly the same way. After a few carefully chosen words and some good company, Davy had become a much stronger person and had offered me shelter in his apartment. It only a couple of weeks before the idea of me becoming a counceler at the fight club he worked at came into play. I have been working there ever since.

"Bring him in Davy." I said in an elequent tone. Todays patient was a very large brawler. On first impression, I took him to be single minded; get the fight done and lets spend my money. But as soon as the door closed behind him, the large man curled on the couch and persisted in sobbing much like a child who had just hit thier head overly hard.

The hour long session was more succesful than I could have hoped for. Bill, which turned out to be the large man's name, was very insecure and didnt know where his life was heading. So of course I had said absolutely nothing from the moment Bill had walked in till he had spoken solidly for a good 45 minutes. I then asked some questions, Bill answered them in a well educated demeanor; I have a way for these things. He left walking out as he did walking in but with a huge smile on his face.

Another job well done

After he left i looked up at my old clock. "Time to go i think". I unlocked my top drawer and pulled out my 2 swords which i placed back into my back scabbard. I picked up my trench coat from behind the door and put it on, locked the door behind me and headed out the door.

Walking outside i go into my pocket to look for my cigarettes... I left them on my desk... I really dont want to go back in case i run into Derik, a fellow worker who has a tendancy to throw his work my way. So i head to what looks like a couple headed home, the woman had strawberry hair and was wearing blue jeans and a jacket wearing a fur lined hood whilst the man was wearing a jacket and had dirty blonde hair. It was only as i came closer did i realise they were close to my age if not younger, but i was comited now.

"Excuse me," i asked in my elequant voice looking at both of them equally as so not to make either feel possible unease. "do either of you by any chance smoke?"

Anthony stopped and looked at the man. His trench coat was much to big for him, so he was obviously hiding something on his back. Probally some sort of weapon. Reaching to his back pocket, Anthony made sure he still had Lucy with him.

"Sorry no. Well, I don't at least. I'm not sure if she does or not."

Anthony motioned to Jennifer.

The mans hand to his back pocket was far too obvious, Miles didn't need to think twice to know that the man was reaching for a weapon. Probably just a precaution, but Miles didn't need to move a muscle to know his blade could be out faster than whatever this man/boy posessed.

He looked towards the woman with a charming smile on his face. "I don't suppose you may have one my dear?"

Miles' mind was working over-drive. A man who doesnt know whether the woman he is with smokes or not means they aren't overly aquainted, and as soon as someone walks over he checks his weapon is within reach...

Paranoia perhaps? But why?

Something didn't ring true here... but then again, it could have just been Miles looking into things too much... Again...

I stood there, slightly awestruck by how many people were in this now- only two, but that was one more than I've ever dealt with. I usually only deal with one on one sessions with my customers and those aren't friendly because it tends to be strictly business- weapons or forbidden technology.

"No..." I began. Something about him looked oddly familiar too, and this made me feel far too strange for my own good. "I don't smoke." the sound was almost a whisper. My mind was too tightly wound on who he was. I looked back at Anthony and stared at him before looking back.

Am I dreaming or is everyone that's approaching me seem familiar?

Miles just wasn't understanding, and this never happens. First the man being overly suspicious, and then the woman with some underlying tone in the way she was speaking... an almost uncertainty about things..

"Well," He said, taking a casual half step forward "if thats the case then i suppose i can be on my way". He didnt stop smiling or being polite, but he did watch for any agressive reaction from either...

"Wait!" I said, taking a step closer to him and looking back at Anthony again.
Why was I doing this? Letting my odd hunches and suspicions drive me all of a sudden? I mean, I highly doubt he is an angel or whatever like my dream. There was no such thing. One of those Omens and Ressurections. That was my overly active imagination in play. I had no earthly idea what to say to this man, and that left a puzzled look on my face.
"Um.." I raked my mind for words to say, an idea even, but nothing. I looked down at the ground and studied the weeds rising up from the cement.
I looked back up again, as if I could tell him how familiar he was with my eyes. As if he could read what it was I was thinking by seeing the odd untied thoughts in my eyes. My lips formed a tight line and my expression became irritant as I scrounged for small talk and warred with my imagination.

She knew something. That was the only thought that crossed his mind. He didn't know why he knew, or why he cared, or why he was going to help her find that lost something in the back of her mind, but he had to. It fealt so similar to the day he first met Davy, one of those days you know are going to change your life.

He took the final step towards her, closing the gay and looked into her eyes. There was so much trapped in tose eyes,
confusion,
wisdom,
fear,
Knowledge,
destiny,

She had the world in her eyes and not in the unlitteral sense... And in that second he somehow knew her...

"There is so much that must be done and you know it." he took her hands in his "You may not undersand it yet, you may even fear it, but there is something that can and must be changed" he kissed the top of her head "i may or not be who you think i am, that much i cannot tell, nor for he beside you, but i know there is much before you in which i shall guide and protect you with the best of my abilities"

And that was it, he regained his focus and became aware of his hands in hers. He quickly removed them... REALLY quickly
