Assistance on GM-ship ( )

Postby Kestrel on Fri Aug 29, 2008 11:05 am

Hello there,

I came to this forum with the plan so set a little RP up, however I'm looking for someone interested to assist/guide me first, because my GM-experience is virtually non-existent. As for potentially interested people, it will be in a prehistoric setting, featuring a few self-made animal-like races (which have developed an intellect that is close to the human intellect. They can think, feel emotion, create bonds, reason, etc. Although the desires are less complicated). The themes would be survival, exploration and travel. I'll PM you more information if you are interested, after which you decide if you would like to assist/guide me, or ask me questions about a few things that may be unclear to you. Please don't feel like you're signing up for anything just yet if you show your interest.

So, if you have experience as a GM and wouldn't mind helping me out, please leave a message. Examples are always appreciated.

Welcome. :) When you have a good idea for your campaign post in OOC to see if people like your game idea. if you do an open one, you could just post to the category your going for. If you need more help from me, just ask. I have DM'd some interesting crowds.

Plan ahead and always be ready to dump that plan. People are dynamic.

Don't create Mary Sues, characters you can't end up killing or have some sort of favoritism as NPCs. Save that for players to do. Players can make players Mary Sues, which is okay. They were given that role.

Play or look at other campaigns that are similar. Get some ideas going. I have seen some similar to this.

Decide how much realism your playing with. Can players do matrix style move or are they all normal mortals? Once you find it, don't let players and typically your NPCs cross it.

Know your audience, talk with the players in chat or messages before you play with them. Find out what they like and dislike. Some people like to fight, some don't.

Hope that helps a bit. :)
