Vincent nodded slightly, his expression turning melancholy. He stared into the coffee, the steam flowing directly into his eyes, but he didn't seem to care. "I know, and it is such a shame." He looked up to Tessra with a troubled expression. "What are we going to do? As good as we are, we won't be able to escape them forever in this town," he added.

Jane stopped when she saw a lake in the distance, with a huge house on the other side. "What the hell is this? A secret vampire base?" she wondered, careful not to get too close. Vampires had heightened senses of sight, smell, and hearing, so they'd know if she got much closer than she was. She had to find a way across the water without making any sounds, but she had no idea how.

Tessra nodded a bit, thinking now herself. It certainly was a problem. "There would be too many for us to fight alone if they plan an all-out attack. There are fewer vampires like us than there are like them. Plus, the humans are at a large disadvantage. There's only a handful of them that can even handle to fight a vampire, let alone kill it." She sighed, taking another sip of coffee. "All in all, our only options seem to be to run, or to fight. If we fight, we're going to need to assemble all of those like us just to make it."

Vincent remained silent for a long time, thinking. "If we were to run, where would we go?" he asked, looking at her. He remembered meeting a few vampire hunters that were actually pretty good at what they did, capable of holding their own in a fight. "I know a few humans who would be a great help if we were to fight..."

Jane finally decided to just go for it. She wasn't going to have that scum living in HER city. Cautiously, she began to wade through the freezing water, her body instantly becoming covered in goosebumps. Her teeth clattered together and her body shook with the cold, but she pressed on, clutching her knife tightly in her hand.

Tessra actually seemed to be pretty troubled by all of this, an emotion she rarely showed. "I honestly don't know. If we ran, we would have to go to a different country. It would be the only way to even possibly escape. They're spreading over the entire world, though. Slowly but surely..." She paused, then shook her head. "As for fighting, a few wouldn't be good enough. They have hundreds, possibly thousands. We don't even know exactly how many. There's only maybe...two hundred of us, and maybe at most fifty human hunters. Terribly uneven odds..." Another pause, and then Tessra's hearing picked something up. Her head turned to the window that faced the lake. "Someone's crossing the lake." She muttered, though could only hear them at the moment.

Vincent leaned back in the chair, stretching as he sipped his coffee. "So, either way, we're basically screwed," he muttered, slightly annoyed by the whole situation. "Which path do we choose?" he asked, looking out the window to see a figure wading through the water. "Is she crazy? That water's got to be fifteen degrees..." he almost laughed, thinking about how cold she must be. He couldn't see her too well, but he had a bad feeling that she wasn't a friend of theirs.

Jane fell out of the lake with a hard thud. Forcing herself to her feet, she stumbled and almost fell again, but didn't. She certainly was in no position to be doing this, but she felt a need to, a need she couldn't ignore. As she approached the house, she noticed the door only leaning against the house, completely separated from its hinges. "Looks like this'll be easier than I thought," she mused, moving the door to the side and stepping in as quietly as she could. She heard voices, a male and female voice, but couldn't tell where they were coming from. The house was huge.

Tessra could tell when she came into the house that it was a human intruder. Their blood smelled different, so Tessra had learned to make the distinction easily awhile ago. She didn't seem too concerned now, though, just looking to Vincent again. "I believe we should continue this discussion another time. You're going to let your coffee get cold." Speaking of which, she took a few more sips of her own, not wanting to get interrupted before finishing again.

Vincent nodded, also smelling the human girl. He suspected that she didn't want anything peaceful, and so he sipped his coffee, intending to finish it before being interrupted again. He sighed audibly, already tired of the constant onslaught. "What do you propose we do about our, uhm, guest?"

Jane found the two creatures in what seemed to be a sitting room. She was thoroughly appalled at the sight of the two disgusting creatures sitting around sipping their drinks in a gorgeous house. They were monsters! What right did they have to be so nonchalant, so comfortable, while she was busting her ass trying to keep the streets safe for the normal people? She unsheathed her knife, gripping its handle tightly. She knew it wouldn't do much, but it was better than nothing. "What the hell is this?"

Tessra just shrugged, sipping her own coffee. When the girl came into the room, she turned her head, seeming calm about the whole thing. "What is what? It is two people sitting down, drinking coffee, and having a nice conversation which was just interrupted. What do you think it is?" Tessra could understand why a human hunter would have something against all vampires, but she really hoped they could, in time, come to understand that not all vampires were 'monsters'.

Vincent smiled to the girl. "I'd ask you to join us, but that knife doesn't look too friendly," he said, indicating her weapon, "so why don't you just leave?" He finished his coffee, placing the mug comfortably in his lap, and glanced to Tessra. She was rather calm, but what if the girl decided to put words into actions? He didn't want to have to kill again. He cringed at the very thought.

Jane staggered backward a bit, caught off guard by the 'woman''s calm demeanor. "You two aren't people, you're grotesque creatures that defy everything that God stands for!" she shouted, gripping her knife tightly. She caught a glimpse of their fangs, and suddenly her knife didn't seem so big anymore, it seemed minuscule and silly. She turned to the male and made a face. "I'm only leaving with vampire blood on my blade," she said, moving toward them.

Even when the girl moved toward them, Tessra was unmoving. "It'll be hard to get vampire blood on your blade, you know. If we had half a mind, you could already be dead now. The very fact that we have yet to move toward you should be enough of a clue that we don't want to hurt you. We vampires are not, as you say, 'creatures'. Like you, all of us are different. Some drink human blood, others choose not to. Some are mean, others are kind. All of us differ in morals, personality, and looks. Just like you."
