- I was going to follow in my father’s footsteps whether I liked it or not. Oh, certainly, I believed in god, the higher power…there was never any doubt in that. The doubt lay within the words my father said, That which he teached to his ‘flock.’ I didn’t think it was so cut and dry, that god lives in an ethereal realm called heaven, so far away from us, his followers, and yet still causes everything right in the world and has nothing to do with the bad, the culprit behind that was the equally mysterious devil…
Oh, he told me all about it. Somehow, god created the universe with a snap of his fingers; civilization began in a garden filled with lower evolved animals living in peace, under the feet of a man and a woman mammalian.
So of course that raised question in the mind of a young man who frequently disobeyed his father’s wishes, who was dying to get out of the prison he was in. Perhaps, in some irrational part of his mind, he felt that bringing those questions to the attention of his father would be his key to freedom. -
“How could it all have started that way? With only two mammalians!? What about the elves…the hundreds of thousands of different sub-species where are they?!”
- …and of course, he had a quick answer for everything, thinking that my youth made me incapable of comprehending a more detailed answer.
“Everything started with mammalians. The lesser beings, like elves and such came much later” Bringing more questions to my mind when I was young.
My father died over the coming years, his body buried beneath this church. He taught me everything he knew during his life in this world, clearing up old questions I had along with current ones. I took the position as reverend in the village regretfully. -
Richard looked out toward the window, the shadow almost touching his bed. “It’s time.” Richard returned the quill to the ink bottle and got up out of his chair. He closed his book and placed it inside the desk, it was his time of the day where he would be brought people and give his speech. Richard fixed his glasses and walked out of his room into the ‘sanctuary.’ He was soon at his desk and began his speech over the elements. It was only a small crowd of three people but Richard still had to do it.
“Before I continue, is anyone here godless?” Richard eyed the three until one of them spoke.
“…me me! I am!” said one of the women in the second row as she waved her hand in the air. Richard quickly reacted pulling out a crossbow and shooting the poor lady in the forehead, causing quite a bloody mess.
“…Anyone else?” said Richard looking at the two that were left. The person in the third row looked over at the corpse in the second row and immediately stood up.
“Oh! I am! Me!” Richard pulled the trigger quickly placing a arrow in the man’s neck. The man flew back another row from the force of the arrow. He gurgled to death from his own blood.
“Any other godless heathens out there?” Richard looked around with a worried look on his face. The last person left standing was a female mammalian who looked behind to see the gruesome mess.
“…I like god.” Whimpered the lady slowly raising her hand. Richard leaned forward with a smile on his face quite interested.
“Reeeaaalllyyyy…..” Soon there was a voice coming from Richards room.“Ohhh.. oh yeah, baby…who’s your god? Huh? Say my name bitch…awww yeah that’s it.” Everything seemed to be going grand for Richard, that is until a bright light hit his face and everything went white.
Richard then opened his eyes, he was sitting on a chair leaned over on his desk where his book laid. He then put his glasses on. "Aww man, I thought for sure that was real." Richard sighed and pressed his glasses up. 'I still need to go to the market and grab some food. I'm running out.' With that being said in his head he then looked in the mirror and fixated his hair making it look exactly the way he wanted it. Richard gave a smile and walked down the stairs into the sanctuary, then heading out the door. The light shined bright and the land seemed untouched as the wind blew through the land. Richard headed down the dirt road enjoying the scenery. Over time he saw a village in the distance. Richard sighed and walked through the entrance of the place knowing he was a complete outsider on this world being a walking talking animal. Most people stared at him Richard just smiled and waved. Hopefully no one would try to start a fight.
