"Wait? What? No!"
Josh winced. He could sense the defensive tone in her voice. Shoot. Could he have said anything more stupid then what he just did? He frowned. Another bad habit. His words always got mixed up with his thoughts, leading for him to say the worse things possible.
He was such a guy sometimes.
"I'm 15 years old and I don't plan to have kids for a while yet."
He could see the look of terror on her face at the diea and he was speechless. His mind went blank for what to say.
"They're my brother and sister if you must know . . ."
"Oh, er, I'm sorry. I didn't mean anything by it," He said quickly, his words over lapping from the over time his mind was working at the moment for lack of what to say.
Brother and sister, you idiot! Why didn't you guess that first? Jeez! 'Are they yours?' You moron!, He thought to himself harshly as he grabbed another book from the cart, placing it on the shelf while sneaking a glance at the two twins with Rosie. He frowned, realizing he should have known better. He hadn't taken the time to assume their ages and the blonde girl's. She was much too young to have them as her own children. How old were they four? Maybe five?
And the girl beside him was what? Fifteen?!
It was odd, but something about the look in her eyes said that she wasn't fifteen. It said she had probably known better days and had seen more of life then Josh ever would or want to.
He suddenly felt very guilty, his thoughts still screaming at him in his head.
"Sorry," He repeated again, his tone deeply sincere.
