Sam sighed, knowing she was late for picking up the twins again, especially after having just run into everyone at school for a mini session of 'pick on Sam'. Sam made sure she looked decent enough, though she was only wearing jeans and a shirt, nothing different to what she normally wore. She was glad that she got to leave school early and pick up the twins. The teachers never noticed her absence, not that they noticed any of the children there anyway. They just came in, taught and then left again. Sam was sure all of them were hunting for better teaching jobs, just like Sam would hunt for a new school if she had the money to.

Sam decided to start running now. Why did the preschool have to finish early anyway? If her dad did work, he wouldn't have been able to pick them up anyway. This worked for Sam though been as it was the excuse she used for why she picked them up and took them to there. And why she talked to the parents. Everything really. It was all down to Sam and nothing to her dad. But she didn't want to be split from the twins if they found about what it was like at home and about her dad. Sam wanted to stay there and look after them. Sighing, she glanced at her watch to see how late in picking them up she actually was.

Rosie saw Sam rush out the door, presumably to pick up the twins. She followed, knowing Sam would have to get going to work right after. Her lime green tank top attracted attention, but Rosie was used to the looks she got around town. She still had Sam in her sights, and now the sign for Wallaby's Kindercare up ahead.

-------

" Davie, where's sissie? " Meimei asked quietly.
" She'll be here Meimei, don't worry, " Davie answered. And he was right. Right now, the twins could see her old T-shirt and jeans sprinting towards them, and they both grinned.
" SAMMI!!!!!!" The twins ran to meet her and ran into her arms, hugging her waist because that was as high as they could reach. Then Rosie came, strolling along casuall after her.

Sam hugged the twins and smiled at them, not realising that Rosie was behind her. She picked up Meimei and then took a hold of Davie's hand, ready to get walking towards the library. Sam didn't really like having to get Rosie to look after the twins, especially as she refused payment, so decided to take them to the library with her. Her boss didn't mind too much as long as they were quiet and Sam could assign them to do homework and read or something like that.

"So guys, how was your day?" She smiled a little, hoping Meimei had made a few good friends this time, knowing that she was getting to be too much like Sam at school and she didn't want Meimei to be bullied when older for it.

Davie immediately started to babble about the new toy trucks that had come to Wallaby's over the weekend, and his friend Jakob who had brought some of his own and shared with him. Meimei patiently waited for him to finish, and, when he did so breathlessly, she began her recount.

" Well.... there was this girl I met.... and she was okay...." Meimei was careful to leave out the part where the 'nice' other girl had been not so nice after all. She knew it would make Sam worry.

" Nuh-uh!!!! " Davie cut her off. " She wasn't okay!!! She called you a donkey!!! " he said protectively, and then added proudly, " So I hit her. "

Sam smiled a little at what Meimei had said....A friend.... But then frowned as Davie cut in and she listened.

"Davie! You don't hit anyone. No matter what they say and especially not a girl. Look. If someone is mean to your sister, you tell the teacher and then me ok?" She asked, looking at him.

She then looked at Meimei. "And you. Don't accept that off anyone..." What a hypocrite I am, Sam though. "Just tell the teacher, or try to be friends with them or something..." Sam sighed.

It was an unusually cloudy day. But beautiful, none the less. That was the strange thing about Josh. He loved rain. It was honest. It was true. It felt as if it just cleansed the town. Washing away the grim and filth. He only wished it could do the same for his past.

That was first thing he noticed. His first thoughts when he had stepped outside was: When will it fall? When is it gonna come? It hadn't yet, but he couldn't help but feel as if it was just a matter of time. Time. Tick Toc, tick Toc. Tick tocking on by without hesitancy. Would it ever stop?

Josh was walking down the street, really having no where in mind to go. He knew he shouldn't have left school, but for some reason, he really wasn't in the mood to be around so many people. All of them with their fake smiles and false words of comfort. It was too much to take. Sometimes he would get that way. Usually because Conner would come to mind, and the depression would sink back into his thoughts. He missed him so much.

Josh was about average height of 6'3, his body fairly toned and his dark hair drooping infront of his eyes as it always did. His gaze was brought down to the sidewalk below his feet, his mind drifting and his attention away from the world around him. He just couldn't seem to concentrate.

He began to wonder what his sister Evaline was up to. He was hoping she was at school. It wouldn't suprise him if she had ditched early too. But he had hoped not. Although he was a year younger then his sister, he couldn't help but have that big brother instinct. Wanting the best for her, feeling as if every guy she dated wasn't good enough, so on and so on.

His green eyes still remained fixed to the ground. He could have been walking into the street and headed straight into a car's path and he wouldn't have taken the slightest of notice. Another unfortunate trait. Josh could space out so easily and not realize what he was doing or saying. This got him into trouble constantly.

He continued on down the sidewalk, his thoughts everywhere. But strangely, the one he couldn't get out of his head was the rain.

When was it coming and would it ever?

He stopped in his tracks and looked up, though he wasn’t sure why.

He then began to walk across the street slowly, no cars coming, though he probably wouldn’t have noticed if there were any anyway.

He stopped in front of the steps and looked down at them. What exactly was he doing? He didn’t know. He didn’t care. He brought one foot up to meet the first step and the the other to meet the next. And again, and again, until he was at the doors of the library. He gripped one handle and stepped inside, not sure what inspired him to do so.

Once inside he glanced around. He hadn’t been there since Conner was still alive. His little brother loved to read. Josh had never found much interest in books, but he went along anyway.

He walked through the rows of books stacked on shelves and simply looked around, not sure what to do or what he was looking for. He ran his fingers along the spines of books, seeing titles of all sorts. Some funny, some sad, some confusing, others blunt. Some were familiar and others Josh had never heard of. There were so many and so few he had actually read.

He wasn’t sure why, but he felt content there. He felt safe, like the world outside the building didn’t matter for a while. Like everyone in here was the same and everyone outside the doors didn’t exist. It was just him and the books he never knew.

It was strange and it was comforting.

It was good.

Davie's head dropped apologetically. " Okay. " he said. But Meimei continued to look questioningly up at Sam. Her sister's voice had sounded almost bitter when she'd told her to stand up for herself. But then, Sam began carting the two off to the library.

Rosie followed close behind. She too, had sensed the bitterness in her friends voice. She gave a little wink to Meimei, and then said, " Need me at the library? I can do homework help," Rosie knew Sam didn't like having help with the twins, but Rosie enjoyed taking care of them. It made her feel needed; all of her brothers were older than her. Besides, she knew that whenever Sam took them places where she couldn't watch them constantly, she got nervous and couldn't concentrate very well.

Aaron sat quietly in front of the piano, playing it as the tunes passed through his almost perfectly silent home. The tunes creaked through the doors and the walls in a tune that almost Heaven itself had to be playing, his hands passing each note without even looking back; eyes closed and head rocking gently to his sides. Behind him in a tasteful growl was Kunai which partly in Japanese came from Sukunai meaning "little." She was always his pride and joy, standing up he tackled her to the floor as the beast growled playfully and licked his face. She was a big girl, she weighed a ton and was huge - much bigger than your normal household cat. Though his parents let her stay, even though they were afraid of her he had had her since he was only twelve and the cat never did one little thing to harm him. Even when he cut himself open the cat always was there to comfort him and lick at his wounds.

Smiling as he ruffled the cats back he stood up and sighed, "Come on you big pussy. Why do I keep you around? I guess who can really say they have a Tiger huh?" He chuckled a bit as the cat pouted a little but only growled more as it layed on the floor. "Well I got to go. You be good." The cat growled more but it never made a mess. It went outside when it had to take care of business and just pondered around the house neatly without doing one little thing to break something. It did have accidents where it knocked something over but rarely did it cause chaos. Walking out the door with a smile he got inside his car with a large sigh.

Thinking for a few minutes he started it up slowly and pulled out his phone curiously because he was wondering what Josh was up to - hoping he was okay he dialed his number and waited for someone to pick up.

Sam looked at Rosie and nodded finally, a thankful look in her eyes. At least they'll be watched properly she thought, though she didn't like the help. Sam could do it herself and she knew she could. But she'd given up pushing Rosie away a long time ago now, been as Rosie continue to try and help anyway.

Finally they got to the library and Sam sat them down at a table and looked at Rosie again before looking outside just as it started to rain.

"Thanks. All their homework is in the bags and stuff. I don't think its much." She answered. "Have fun."

Then she was over to the desk just as her boss, Mrs. Simmons gave a disapproving look to the twins.

"You're father should come and collect them. You can't have them at work all the time." She answered as if they were pets of some sort.

"Come on Mrs. Simmons. They never cause trouble and I get the work done don't I?" She answered.

Mrs. Simmons sighed, and Sam knew that she didn't know the truth.

"Fine. But try to sort something out with your father."

Sam nodded, a lie, but it didn't matter. "I'll try."

Mrs. Simmons smiled. "Now, will you go put these books back on the shelf?" She asked.

Sam nodded. "Sure."

Slowly she wheeled the cart over and down one of the book aisles, noticing a guy running his fingers over the books as if looking for something. Sam stopped the cart and started to look at the books on them before placing them on the same shelf he was looking at, though she didn't ask if he needed help. She assumed he didn't plus was too shy to.

" Alright, guys, lets get your homework out. What is it today? The letter 'P' ? " Rosie kept track of the twins' homework easily. They got it out, and as Rosie was helping Davie trace his P's, she noticed Sam in an aisle with some guy. She knew him, had seen him around. He was a rich kid, and she had her doubts about him.

Meimei was watching, too. She was much more observant than anyone knew; she knew so many things that people thought she was too young to understand. And now she was following Rosie's gaze to where Sam stood, putting away books. She was curious why Rosie looked mad at the boy near her, but she kept her mouth shut. She knew she wouldn't get a straight answer anyway, that's how it was with kids.

ooc: It will be assumed that Benjamin and Faith have only lived here for a month and don't know anybody yet..didnt think to put this up on the character skeleton.

ic: Benjamin and Faith sat in the apartment silently looking down at the textbooks that were their only teachers. They could not go to a high school, they would lose the power of their fake ID if they were enrolled in a high school, and then they would be taken away to some foster care service they didn't need and forced into a home that they could not endure. The plan was to discreetly get their high school educations and go to college if they wanted to, although it seemed unnecesary due to the large sum of inheritance they had acquired, although not of age to receive it. Aware of their situation, their other uncle had actually taken their inheritance out early and given to them so they could get away, as he was unable to legally have custody of them.

The only noises in the apartment/condo were the rustling of pages, the fridge motor running, the occasional flowing of water through pipes, and maybe the voices of other tenets in the buildings by theirs. Technically, the buildings WERE condos, but they referred to them as apartments just out of their habit from their previous place of living.

Finally, Faith spoke up. "Damn, I have to go get a book from the library for the next literature lesson." Benjamin replied, "Oh, me too, we can get lunch while we're out too if you want." Faith nodded and said, "Yeah, I'm getting pretty hungry, we might as well."

And with that the two siblings closed their books and walked out the door, Benjamin locking it on the way out, and headed to the car, a silver Dodge Viper SRT10. (Pic: http://meryddian.net/autoshow07/dodge_viper_srt10.jpg) Benjamin got in the driver's seat and Faith hopped in the passenger side, and they took off out of the complex and down the road to the library.

They parked close to the entrance and walked in, both giving each other a look and seperating to find the individual books they needed.

His thoughts kept weaving in and out. Conner, Evalin, dad, friends, school, baseball, homework, test thrusday, practice tomorrow, they wouldn't stop. He winced slightly as his fingers landed on a familiar book and he suddenly felt over come with sadness.

His hand fell from the books and his eyes lingered on over the spines, still watching the titles with interest and sorrow. He sighed and turned to leave. But before he even took his first step, he noticed something.

There was a girl there now, pushing a cart through the isle. He didn't recognize her at first, but she was beautiful. That was the first thing that landed in his mind. She was very pretty and he couldn't seem to look past that.

But then it hit him. He knew who she was. He had heard of her. He had seen her. But never had he approached her. His friends had. They teased her. He recalled this and had told them it needed to stop a couple times, but he had never really enforced it. He never understood why they did. Nothing seemed different with her. Except how pretty he was. How had he not noticed before?

Now he felt some what guilty. Seeing her here, working, and now he wished more then anything he had made his friends stop all harsh words towards her. He knew it was wrong and so did they, yet never did they quit. He should have done something. Anything. But he didn't.

He gave a small, sheepish smile. "Hey," He started, not really sure what words were coming out of his mouth. "Don't you go to my school? I'm Josh."

" All done! " Rosie said to the twins as she finished guiding Davie's hand around the forms of the letters. She looked up and saw a pair of teenagers like herself come in. She briefly wondered what they were doing in the library, but then she tuned back to Davie and Meimei and took out a couple of children's books she had borrowed. The twins sat beside her and she began to read. " Once upon a time...."

Sam looked at the guy that spoke to her, a little confused as she'd seen his face around and knew that he was from the richer side of town. Sam looked around, making sure in a way he was talking to her before looking at him again.

"Um...Well, not if you go to the private school." She answered, a little ashamed of the fact that she didn't go there, but she suddenly knew where she'd seen him.

His friends had teased her a few time and he'd been in the background. He hadn't done anything, but he hadn't stopped it either. So, she started to wonder if this was just some joke or something, him talking to her.

He sighed a bit, "He never does pickup. Probably is sneaking to the library again. Stupid rich kids." Aaron mused as he was sitting in his Porsche, driving a good car always did pay off. Finally parking out and heading down the empty street, going pretty fast now as he kicked up the gears - he was always a pretty good driver. Thinking of several things now, the stuff Josh had been through was phenomenal and he had always tried being there for him but not even that worked. "Here we are Aaron." Talking to himself as he stopped in front of the library and parked before removing his keys and jumping over the door. "Yep. I'm good." He winked as he looked into the glossy paint on the side of the Porsche and walked through the large doors. "Now where would I be if I was Josh?"

He kept walking before he stopped and noticed he was with a girl, taking a quick seat next to a pair of twins and a girl as he looked over. "Please excuse me." He said kindly as he sat back and watched. "Go Josh..." He said to himself with a grin.

Rosie narrowed her eyes as she heard him mutter those words. This had to be some cruel joke; the rich kid's friends, apparently he was Josh, had probably dared him to go pick on Sam. But Rosie noticed that the expression on Sam's face wasn't wearing a hurt expression. Maybe the kid near her wasn't playing a joke, but Rosie had her doubts. She decided to intervene only if she saw the familiar mask that Sam put up when her feelings were hurt.

Turning her attention to the boy next to her, she eyed him, but said nothing.

In other words though, Davie was in awe. He'd seen the Porsche park out front and he loved it.
" Hey mister, " he said eagerly, " Is that your car? " he said, pointing to it.

" Hush Davie, " she said. She didn't trust this guy het, and she didn't want little Davie chatting so freely with him.

Benjamin walked around the library almost in a daze, not really registering the fact that he was supposed to be looking for a book. What book was it anyway? Probably something extremely boring with a title and author with names too difficult to remember. Why hadn't he written it down? It was at that moment that it hit him. He HAD written it down. He reached into the right pocket of his dark blue jeans and pulled out a slip of paper that read, "The Iliad by Homer" and he laughed at his own stupidity. Stupidity of not remembering a book that everyone knew about, and stupidity for not remembering he had written it down on this paper. It would seem however, that even being reminded of what his reason for being here was would get him back on task as he walked around the library, spotting a few other people as well as his sister Faith once or twice. There was a boy and girl in one of the aisles, one with a cart, probably a library assistant. At one of the tables he saw a girl, an attractive one at that, with two young kids doing homework or reading or something..and sitting close by was a boy who seemed to be watching the boy and girl in the aisle. Behind the desk was the librarian, who seemed a little peeved for some reason, but then again..librarians always seemed like something was biting them on the ass.

Faith was more on task than her brother, but had also stopped to notice the different people in the library as well. She was having a bit of a hard time finding her book, unaware that it was the exact same one that her brother needed..The Iliad. Slightly frustrated she walked down the aisles and rows of books on shelves hoping to find the one book that she needed out of all these, it was like a more modern day version of the metaphor "a needle in a haystack".

He looked up to the boy and smiled, "Yes it's mine. Though a Porsche is nothing compared to what I have at home. Have you ever seen a tiger?" Aaron smirked, "I got one of those to. A real one. It doesn't bite much though." Grinning as he turned his attention back to Josh in silence.

Davie stare wide-eyed at the man. A car and a tiger?
Rosie saw the look on Davie's face, and the one now on Meimei's, too.
" Sweetie, he doesn't really have a tiger, " she said as gently as she could
" Then why did he just say so? "
" Because, well....." Rosie was searching for words to break it upon the twins that some people lied for fun. She was unsuccessful. Then she gave the boy a 'Don't-get-their-hopes-up-you-idiot look, and picked up another storybook and began it, leaving Davie's question unanswered.
