Platform four. Weird: trains. I'll never get used to them; they are an adventure unto themselves. The young man in the black denim jacket stepped up to it, and looked at the train. He checked his cell phone for the time. Somehow he felt late, but he couldn't recall what time the train was leaving. He stood there, still looking at his phone, pretending that he might be lost. It was all in vain - an enthusiastic blond man came over and asked if he was looking for the train to Connecticut, and the young man had to admit that, in fact, he was - direct questions being a weakness of his. This led to the prompt arrival of another man, who assisted the traveler (whose name I have burdened to hide so far) into the train and down several of them into the car in which a few people sat and stood. The young man removed his hat, and wished he'd washed his hands more recently.
"Ah, hi, hello!"
He didn't seem outwardly anxious but his awkward ejaculation of greetings belied his ostensible confidence, almost as if it were an act (the awkwardness, that is). He swiftly shoved down the telescoping handle of his rolling luggage, and sat atop it.
