Carriers - IC"Sometimes choosing life is just a more painful form of death."OOC
The needle was dipping dangerously low. A wary eye was cast over it, practically fixated on it as it continued to slip slowly. They didn't have much longer. It was either get to a town, find some gas, or..walk. Yeah right, walk. Conner McCormick hated that idea. It wasn't so much that it was work, that it was hot outside, or that they would have to carry the empty gas cans plus the several gallons of bleach they carried everywhere. No, that wasn't it at all. It was the mere idea of stepping outside into unclean air, into the very heart of the disease with nothing more than a flimsy paper mask to protect himself. Yeah, that sounded like complete bullshit.
They sped past a small green sign that no doubt told them where the nearest town was, but Connor didn't see it. They were going to fast for him to even register it. If there was one thing that he actually liked about all this 'apocalypse' junk, it was the fact he could drive however he wanted. And he took advantage of that. He let his eyes drift over to the two passengers he had with him, two girls he had been traveling with for some time. Sometimes he didn't know why he traveled with them, when it would be so much easier by himself. He wouldn't have to worry about getting attached to them..but there it was. He was attached to them, at least a little. They were like his family now, his apocalypse family. The only family that hadn't been lost to some twisted disease.
"Dammit Zoe." Connor said, reaching a hand out to her to give her shoulder a playful shove. "You're supposed to be looking for signs." He said, letting a grin cross his face briefly before it fell away again into a serious expression once he caught sight of the gas gauge again. So much for trying to lighten the mood huh?
He didn't say anything else, focusing on the road once more, every now and then passing an abandoned car in the middle of the road, their doors thrown open haphazardly. It wasn't even worth it to stop and see if any of those cars had fuel...they didn't. So he kept driving without even so much of a second glance at them.
Then it came into view. The small scattering of buildings clustered together that signaled a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. It was perfect. Maybe today wasn't their day to die after all. "Holy shit, check it out." Connor said excitedly, nodding in the direction of the buildings growing closer. "We're in luck ladies. About time.." He added, forcing the gas pedal down harder once more, forcing the black beat-up SUV they were driving to go even faster somehow.
