Let me just run this down the years, whether they were genetically created or evolved. They would potentially be a threat to us. Firstly they would have the genetics that give them (I'm going on cat people here.) nocturnal vision. They'd have stronger and faster everything. So that being said we could loose control of them.
Me personally, would absolutely be on their side. Perhaps they might not be as smart as us as well, chances are they wouldn't be gorgeous women with just cute ears, a tail, and longer fingernails; maybe weird legs. No they'd probably be eweth. They would probably take on the beastial features of their genetic counterparts with the human figures of posture and extra brain power.
Another thing, the only way humans could be wiped is by nature or better technology/genetics. It always comes down to what has the newest 'thing'. Example: The raptors were dominant in their rule because they were able to communicate. After raptors everything began awesome communication. So what happened? Everything got wiped, nature... Then along came the rule of mammals. Sure nothing special at first, they were just small and fast. However something came along that said screw communication, I'll also use tools. Thus, humans came along.
So.. what happens next? We make something we shouldn't have <<; Dun dun dunnnn.
Sundown to sunrise worlds spin above our heads, and all we see are the faint flicker of light that provides them life from times long past.
