Magix picks up a cloth and casts a spell on it to wet it but it did not drip. A spell he learned when he was young and thought he'd never use it. He moves closer to Kianne and begins wiping the blood off her face. "If this is weird for you let me know."

Roke nodded. "Of course," he said. "I understand that you need to think this over. It's a big change for you. I just wanted to let you know before you heard from someone else that you would be forced to marry me. I won't make that happen." He gave her a tight smile and then returned to the meal. He felt nothing but pity for the exploited girl beside him and anger at himself for not stopping Drayton from using her.

Fayela was glad for Roke doing this, and she just nodded some again before going back to her meal. Once she had finished, she just looked down at the table, not wanting to look at anyone else, really. "King Roke, if I could, I'd like to go and rest. Where should I stay for now?" She didn't think she'd be in the same room she had been in before, figuring she would be moved to a smaller room. Which was, honestly, just fine with her. She had never lived in lavishness until she came here, and she was just fine without it.

Kianne smiled, and her voice dropped to little louder than a whisper, "On the contrary, and don't take it the wrong way, but I'm quite enjoying it. I think you'll find it's the demons who think it's weird,"
Her eyes flicked to Fayela and Roke and then to the confused, yet happy looking demons. "If I didn't know any better," Kianne smiled, taking a drink of wine, "I'd say you were-"
Kianne stopped to glare at a pretty blonde maid who'd stopped to stare at Magix and herself, quickly sending the girl scurrying.

I'm screaming I love you so

Magix laughs a bit. "Ah but to the demons we are weird no? I represent the Mage kingdom and you represent me. I can't have you walking around covered in blood can I?" Magix continues to wipe the blood laughing a bit as Kianne scares some demons away. "Be nice Kianne." Magix looks over to Roke. "Your Nobles and living guards are still locked up in a few rooms. What will you do with them?"

Roke nodded. "Of course you can go and rest," he said. "But lock your door and I'll place a guard on your corridor. It's up to you where you sleep. I'm perfectly fine with you sleeping in your usual chambers, but they belong to Drayton and I understand that you might not want to. If so, this maid, here," he had caught the arm of a young girl who was passing by, "will take you to a new room." He smiled at the maid, who relaxed slightly and waited for Fayela's decision.

"Your nobles and living guards are still locked up in a few rooms. What will you do with them?" Roke heard Magix ask. He passed a hand over his eyes.

"They can stay there for the night," he decided. "I will speak with them in the morning. A few of my loyal guards remain, and I will see to it that they watch your chambers tonight. I trust you will be staying here for a few days?" he added to the King and Kianne.

Fayela nodded some to what Roke said, taking a few moments to think about her decision. While she didn't want to be with Drayton or around him anymore, she did kind of want to be somewhere familiar at the moment. Just for the comfort of actually recognizing where she was--whether the memories were bad or good, it didn't matter right now. "I can go to the room myself. I think I'll just stay in the same one, for now." She looked at Roke again with a soft grin as she stood up. "Thank you, King Roke." With that she left the hall, going back to the room she had been staying in for awhile now, and sitting down on the bed that had become so familiar. It wasn't necessarily a source of comfort to be here, but Fayela didn't believe that she deserved comfort, anyway. She still was blaming herself for everything.

Kianne laughed, "I'd love to, but there's one problem. I've only got the clothes on my back. If I do represent the mage kingdom, it wouldn't look right if I spend my time here in jeans, never mind bloodstained ones. I need to get dresses and shoes."

She twisted around to say something to Fayela, but watched as she stood up and left. Kianne was concerned for her. She was so young, and her life had been screwed up by Drayton. Kianne thought back to her 17th year. She had just been picked, the pressure of being with so many older, wiser people nearly killed her. Sacred had been a friend then.

***[i]"In a few years, I'll be married to the king!"
"You wish Sacred."
"You'll be married to him."
"him?! Magix is too good for me. He's next in line as well. You know that he has to marry a noble woman."
"You are one, now you're an advisor,"***

The coolness of Magix's cloth brought Kianne back to reality. "Eh, King Roke. This is gonna sound like a huge favor, but can I have a room somewhere near Fayela? I'm worried about how all this strain is going to affect her. I think she's still in love with that pig. When I was around her age, I was picked as an advisor to the king before Magix, and the strain of being with so many older, stronger, wiser people really got to me. It's how I discovered that I could heal without thinking. I dunno who found me, I was bordering on fainting. I lost enough blood to die. Fayela, I'm sure, can't use magic, at least not yet."

Roke watched Fayela go and then nodded to Kianne. "It's not a huge favour. I'm glad you offered, actually, Kianne. I wanted someone to keep an eye on her, and I think you're probably the most powerful person in this hall who could do it. I'll post a guard as well. Thank you."

***

In the dungeon, Drayton smiled to himself for the first time. He had reattached his mind to Fayela's; it had not taken him long to reach out and find her familiar feel. He knew that she had gone to bed - knew where she was, and that she was alone. This was how he had always reached her in the past. But it had to be done with care now; he had to tread delicately.

He closed his eyes and decided that this could not just be done with words. Kianne had made it impossible for him to leave this cell permanently, but using his link to Fayela he could do something. He remembered how he had reached into the human world to bring her here. He could not leave so physically now, but perhaps there was another way.

Could he leave a shadow of himself behind, which he would have to return to, and leave for a brief period of time? As long as there was some part of him that did not leave, he thought that he would be able to slip through the magic. After all, he would be returning, so it would not be an escape.

He kept his eyes closed and remembered how he had reached out to her last time, turning himself into the shadows. He did that now, but with his mind alone, and felt a definite sense of movement.

When he opened his eyes, he was standing in front of her.

Her eyes were downcast; he didn't know if she'd even noticed him. He was substantial and visible; all he had left behind was his shadow. It was an effort to hold himself away from it, but he withstood it.

"Hello, Fayela," he said quietly, and then held up his left hand; the other arm was bound in Roke's sling. "Please don't scream. I'm not going to hurt you."

"Thank you, your majesty. If I may be excused, I'm going to check up on Fayela, have a bath then catch up on some sleep. I am... simply exhausted," Kianne smiled, the tiredness of the past few days washing over her. She finished her glass of wine, standing up and bowing to Roke and Magix.

A young, pretty looking girl led Kianne to Fayela's chamber at her request. "Your room, is just down there, on your right," The girl whispered, before bowing and heading back down to the hall. Kianne stared after her for a second, then turned around and tapped softly on Fayela's door. "Fayela? Are you there? It's Kianne, can I talk with you for a few minutes?"

Fayela looked up and gasped when she heard Drayton's voice, her eyes widening some. "W-What...h-how..." She had to admit that she was scared from seeing him, but at the same time...she was almost relieved. She didn't want him to escape, but at the same time...still being in love with him, she was kind of torn between wanting to see him and not wanting to. For now, she decided he wasn't a huge threat, and decided he could stay for now. Then she heard the knock, and she bit her lip for a moment. The door was locked, so no one was coming in without consent. "Kianne, I appretiate you coming to check on me, but I really just want to rest right now. Can it wait, please? I'm exhausted..."

Kianne picked up on something in Fayela's voice, and was sorely tempted to open the door using magic. "It has been a tiring day.If you need me, I'm just down the corridor. Don't do anything stupid, ok? Seriously," Kianne called, "And don't try and let Drayton out. I spent enough magic on that cell to burn any non- spellcaster. Magical burns are nasty," She added with a slight laugh, waiting a few seconds for a reply before slowly walking to her room.

"I wouldn't dare try and let him out. I just want to rest." Fayela waited until she no longer heard Kianne, then looked at Drayton, still not exactly sure how to feel about him being here. "How did you get here? And why did you come? You've done enough damage already, haven't you? I'm not going to do anything for you, so I don't get the point in you coming here." She loved him, but she wasn't stupid, and she still hadn't forgiven him for all he had done.

"I'm not going to ask you to do anything. What can you do? Unless you have some powers I'm not aware of, I think I'm stuck by myself, to be honest." He did not sound angry or snappish, just quiet and resigned. "I got out by leaving an imprint of myself behind. I haven't escaped, if that's what you're worried about. I just used my connection with you to be able to see you for a brief time. Can I sit down?" He motioned to a space on the bed next to her, and seated himself before she had replied. He had to tread carefully; had to appear genuinely concerned.

Maybe he was.

"I just wanted to talk to you. I'm sorry I hurt you. I was just very angry." This was the first thing he had said that was untrue. He wasn't sorry that he had hurt her; she had deserved some punishment, in his eyes. "Roke's to seize the throne, then? It was true what I said, you know. He has no legal right, whereas I do. I never broke a law. The last demon who tried to seize the throne by murder was dealt with at once - that was how Roke came to the throne in the first place; he was the nephew of the murdered King - and I knew I'd have to do it differently. It was nothing illegal." There was a moment's pause before he spoke again, and this time he had lost some of the calm indifference that his voice had been maintaining. "Is he to take you as his wife, then?" he asked bitterly. "Is he to take everything that is rightfully mine?"

Fayela let Drayton sit, a bit less scared from hearing that he hadn't really escaped. Surely that meant he couldn't do much to hurt her if he tried, right? Either way, she remained where she was, just listening to him speak. She didn't like hearing what he said, though, as she knew he was right in some ways. Looking over at him, she nervously shook her head. "No. King Roke isn't taking me as his wife. He is going to let me choose what I want to happen to me. He said he would set up whatever I wanted. So, no, he is not taking everything that is yours. Besides...I am not your property, Drayton. I cannot just be taken like a prize to be won." Then again, she knew it was the demon's way to do so. And, just as earlier, her voice didn't hold the confidence her words were meant to convey. She didn't truly believe what she was saying. Looking down at her hand, she saw the ring still on her finger from when she and Drayton had married. She had never removed it since, and couldn't bring herself to even now. "What did you come here for, really?" She asked without looking at him, still occupied with staring at the ring.

"I told you. I wanted to talk to you, and find out Roke's plans for your future." He noticed that she was staring at the wedding ring on her finger, and he put his hand over hers. "Don't take it off," he said quietly. "I'm still wearing mine." After Roke had broken them, his left fingers had swelled the slightest bit, but he was still able to keep the ring on.

He had only told her half of the truth. Yes, he wanted to find out Roke's plans, but he had also wanted to ensure that he could count on her, if the time came. If he could talk her back to being at least halfway on his side, then perhaps that would be one more person to stand up for him in court.

And he also felt some affection for her, even though he would never admit it. She was the woman he had chosen to be his wife, and she was very beautiful, and she had loved him unconditionally. Like all vain men, this flattered Drayton, and he had come to care for her in his own way. After the pain he had experienced in the dark room where he had been beaten, it was good to see a face that was not contorted with hatred when it looked at him.

Suddenly, he gave a sound that was halfway to being a laugh. He was certainly smiling, and shaking his head. "I don't believe you stabbed me," he said - this fighting spirit had also raised her in his estimations. "That was absolutely ridiculous, Fayela. And it hurt a lot. But I suppose I don't blame you for it. You were only trying to do what you thought was right." He shrugged. Drayton was not a man who harboured regrets - that fight was lost and it was over, and it was time to move on and make new decisions and new plans.

Fayela blinked when she saw and felt his hand on hers, and she looked at Drayton once more, her expression soft, but still showing some suspicion towards him. Her gaze had begun to drift away again, but then she heard him...was that a laugh?...and looked back over at his face. Her own expression softened a bit more, and she even grinned faintly. "I...I didn't have much of a choice...You did deserve it, though. Still I...I didn't enjoy seeing you so hurt..." She had gotten serious again, lowering her head to stare at the ground.

She felt so foolish, still being in love with this demon. He had done so much to hurt her, use her, but she still couldn't help loving him. Especially right now, when he seemed so much like the man she had thought he was. The one she fell in love with. "I still haven't decided what I'm going to do. King Roke gave me plenty of choices, and I have no idea where I should go, which one I should take." Without really thinking about it, her hand turned some and gripped Drayton's in a gentle and loving way, his touch giving her comfort even though it probably shouldn't.

Drayton felt her hand tighten around his and felt triumphant - he knew that she still loved him, which was what he had hoped to achieve by coming here. He did not expect, however, the relief that came with this. Had he involuntarily fallen in love in return? The notion did not entirely disgust him - he was very traditional, and demon marriage was usually because of love, and not because of profit or personal gain, (although it did have to be someone of the same class; a noble could not marry a maid) - but it did surprise him. It would change nothing, though; his values of loyalty and self-worth were still just as strong and he was not about to see the "error of his ways".

"Well, I suppose he'll give you plenty of time to think about it," Drayton replied. "He's clever; he knows what people want to hear. If you need time, he'll give it to you in abundance, so I wouldn't worry about that." He paused for a moment, hesitating to phrase his next question properly. "Why isn't he marrying you, Fayela? Was it his decision - or yours?"

Fayela still didn't trust Drayton, and yet she was finding it easy to talk to him. Perhaps it was because she needed someone to talk to, and Drayton had always been the one that was there for her before. Old habits die hard. "Well it..." She wanted to say it was Roke's, not wanting to give away how much she still loved Drayton, but she couldn't lie. She had never been good at it, especially around Drayton. "I guess it was both of ours. I mean, he said he wouldn't force me to marry him, but ultimately gave me the choice... He did say he didn't want to marry me, though." Still, he had also said she could still be Queen if she had wanted, and they would have had to be married without really being in a relationship. "Why does it matter, Drayton? King Roke deserves someone better than me, anyway."

Drayton shrugged. "I don't think Roke will ever marry," he replied. "He was engaged years and years ago, before he was King, but the woman died and he never found anyone else. I was just curious. The fact that he offered to marry you shows that either he cares about you a lot - or really wants to punish me. I wouldn't have wanted you to marry him," he added quietly. "I don't want you to take this off." He touched the wedding ring again.
