Piper paused just behind her younger sister at the bottom of the stairs, taking stock of the situation. Prue was talking to the hired help, an attractive young man who looked to be in his early twenties. Phoebe was eyeing him too, and she raised an eyebrow, an amused expression lighting her face. She doesn't stand a chance. Her eyes widened, surprised at herself; Piper was the middle sister, and she liked to think of herself as above the petty sibling rivalry that, on occasion, still wormed its way into Phoebe and Prue's relationship, but she had been unable to prevent the snide remark from entering her head. It made her nervous.
Bringing a hand up to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear, Piper cleared her throat softly. "Uhh, hey. You must be Leo. I'm Piper, and this is..." She glanced at Phoebe, already sensing the tension building between them. The obvious hesitation as she spoke made her wince, and she stuttered for a moment before finding her voice again. "Yeah, this is, this is Phoebe."
She glanced at the base of the grandfather clock that stood in the hallway, flushing slightly, feeling irritated with herself. It was all she could do to keep herself from exhaling in exasperation; that would have made her look crazy as well as stupid. She looked up at Prue, silently begging her to help, and latched desperately onto what she'd caught of her conversation with the handyman. "Um, Prue? Did you say you were giving Leo a tour?" She fidgeted with her hair nervously, her gaze flickering to Leo. "Would you like something to drink or anything? Providing the kitchen's in working order." She laughed nervously, her eyes on the floor again. Dammit. If she carried on acting like this, Phoebe just might stand a chance after all.
