Christmas

There's nothing like spending Christmas at home with your family...
especially when you're part of the Stone family.

It's Christmas once again, and the large Stone family is re-uniting for another year of celebration. This year will be different though, because unlike the past, some of the children are inviting their girl/boyfriends to spend Christmas with the family. Although the Stones are nice people, they have their expectations, and Mrs. Stone, especially, is very picky when it comes to who her children see. She’s a nice, respected woman and she would never insult anyone to their face, but behind their back is free-ground for this high-class mother.

When a snowstorm hits, leaving everyone stranded in the large house for a few more nights than planned, true colors show, drama will skyrocket and tension will form.

Will this Christmas end everything, or will it bring out the good in everyone?
_

It was the morning of Christmas Eve, and Frank Stone was in his normal eight o'clock mood. He was relaxed, but also ready to fall asleep again. Today he was not waken to hurry off to work, but instead to help his wife finish preparing their grand home for the coming of three out of their four children; Katherine was still living at home.

Frank wasn't helping out much, and after a few minutes of mumbling, "yeah, it looks fine," he had decided to just make coffee and read the newspaper. By the time he had grabbed the paper from the driveway, the coffee was ready. He skimmed over the world news section and the sports before deciding that nothing interesting was going on in the world. With a sigh, he dropped the paper onto the kitchen table and walked upstairs, into Francine and his bedroom. The master room was very luxorious but Frank rarely spent time enjoying it, for he worked late hours and barely spent any time at home.

He walked over to his closet before pulling out a pair of khaki dress pants, dress shoes and a red sweater. Of course he would have rather thrown on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt, but since his kids were all coming together again, his wife had insisted that he looked nice. Frank rolled his eyes at the thought as he pulled a comb through his brown hair, that he refused to admit was greying. He was ashamed that his family had all spread apart, and he was embarassed that they couldn't put their differences aside for one holiday, but he was grateful that they had for today. It was going to be an interesting Christmas with the entire family back together, plus the partners.
_
Ben Brady had pulled up infront of his girlfriend's home and quickly hit his hand against the horn a few times before rolling down the window. Icy air streamed in, but since the heat in his old Toyota still worked, he didn't feel the chill terribly.

As he waited for Ana to come out so they could drive to her parent's house, he glanced at himself in the mirror. He had tidied up his athletic look for the holiday, because he was truly nervous to meet his girlfriend's parents. He had never heard much about them before and he could tell that Ana was not very close with her family. He hoped that him arriving with her was not going to stir things up much, but he was pretty sure that Ana had informed her family she was bringing him.

He ran his hands through his light brown hair absent-mindedly, before turning on the radio and lightly strumming his fingers against the steering wheel to the Christmas tune that played.

Ana glanced in the mirror once more. She had pulled back her bangs into a poof and gone easier on her makeup. Her parents didn't know anything about her and she didn't want it to come as a shock to them. She was tugging a jacket over her arms when the horn beeped outside her window. She moved the curtain and glanced out, seeing Ben in his car. Her lip was free of its common metal and she looked more "family" presentable. She grabbed her large bag and looked into the mirror a final time. Her black dress hung to about her knees and was strapless. Her jacket covered her arms. She had tugged on black fabric boots on over her stockings.

Stepping out into the cold December air, she hopped in the car. She had bought little presents for everyone and they were shoved in her bag. "Hey, babe," she said quietly. She leaned over, kissing him quickly and pulling back, biting her lower lip. "Ready to meet my whatever you want to call them?" She grabbed his hand, intertwining their fingers together. "I bet they'll like you," she mumbled to herself.

[Lav, I'm assuming our characters live together. If not I'll change later]

Tristan put on a black blaser on over his black pin striped button down shirt. Straightening his bright blue tie, he slid his black belt through the loops of his black slacks. He checked his watch before spraying on a bit of cologne and walking into the bedroom.

The room was spotless, just the way he liked it. He sat on the corner of the bed and pulled on a pair of black dress shoes before lacing them up.

"Babe, you ready yet?" he called as he stood and tucked his wallet into his back pocket. "We're going to be late!" Not that he was nervous. It was only his girlfriend's family. Nothing serious. It was only for the holidays. And it was only the first time Alexis had brought a boyfriend home in...God knows how many years. But he wasn't nervous. Not even a little.

He walked back into the bathroom and checked his reflection again. Using a bit of water he attempted to tame the stubborn piece of hair that wouldn't cooperate..."Alex!"

Katy sat infront of her mirror, running her hot iron over her golden locks. Her hair wasn't naturally curly, but it wasn't as perfectly straight as she preferred it to be. So, she sat there for twenty minutes running the straightener over her hair before she decided it looked fine. She wasn't trying to impress anyone, because really, it was only her siblings that were coming over, and Katy didn't have a strong bond with any of them. She was five years younger than Emiliana, eight years younger than Vance and ten years younger than Alexis. Besides the blood relationship and the petty arguments that Katy got into with Emiliana, she didn't have much of a relationship with the others.

Standing up, she ran her fingers through her hair before slipping off her tank top and sweat pants, then pulling on a red dress from Forever21, a black headband with a small bow from J. Crew and her black ballet flats from Raplh Lauren. After applying a small amount of mascara on her long eyelashes, Katy walked out of her bedroom and lightly closed the door behind her, before prancing down the stairs. She walked through the living room, glancing out of one of the large windows that revealed small flurries were beginning to fall, before sitting down on the couch and turning on the TV. The fire crackled beside her and she glanced to her left where the large tree sat, decorated in bright white lights and colorful ornaments.

Alexis and Tristan had just moved in together. She had only agreed to the arrangement if they could live at her place, and so far it was working out great... except for the fact that she was the farthest from a clean freak, and he was... well... he liked order.

She was wearing a black dress that was not too formal but not too casual, with a pair of patent leather black heels. She strode quickly into the bedroom, wrinkling her nose at its perfect cleanness. She grinned, reaching into her underwear drawer and throwing a couple things of lingerie around the room. "What are you wearing?" She narrowed her eyes, pulling herself closer to him by his tie. She started to take it off of him, pursing her lips. "Take this off, you don't have to be so dressed up. It's just my parents' house."

Alexis mused about how his clothes were actually perfect, remembering how her mother hated it when men didn't dress nicely. She threw his tie aside, and kissed him as she undid the top two buttons of his shirt. "There. Much better."

Tristan did his best to look angry, but both of them knew he wouldn't be able to stay mad for two reasons. The first being he was already too stressed to fit any more emotion in, and secondly because...well it was Alex and she was killing him in that dress. "Yeah, easy for you to say," he said stepping around her and grabbing his tie off the floor. "You've already met your parents..." he trailed off as he walked into the room. He sighed as he saw the clothing scattered around the bedroom.

So far the living together things had been...interesting. He loved it, but there were two different ways of living under one roof. He began picking up the underwear and putting it back into her drawer. He paused and held up the skimpy article. "When did you get this? And why aren't you wearing it now?" he asked with a playful grin.

((and how... done))

Francine was still in her fluffy bathrobe with tinfoil in her hair, she looked like Medusa. She sow Katherine sitting in front of the T.V and was a little mad she wasn’t helping. Was it really too much to ask for a little help getting the house ready? The house wasn’t nearly ready and she still hadn’t gotten dressed. She thought about yelling but it was Christmas, and decided let it go. She set her coffee down in the kitchen then went up to get dressed. She smiled at her husband, as she walked in their room. “See you look ten years younger.” She joked with a smile, and walked in to the bathroom to undo the tinfoil in her hair. Francine was always proud of her hair, and always kept it shinny and silky. Her red dress was hanging on the back of the door; she’d bought it years ago but only found it recently in her closet under some old sweaters. “I’m amazed my old dress didn’t get chewed up by moths.” She hummed.

And emerged from the bathroom in it, and her hair slightly puffed, “it still fits,” she smiled. “how do I look?” she asked her husband.

"I don't feel ten years younger," Frank scuffed as he looked into the mirror, pulling on the neckline of the sweater because it was already irritating him. Once it was fixed, he sat down on the edge of the bed and pulled on his shoes before glancing up to look at his wife who had just changed into her dress. "Yup, you look great, Frank," he replied as he darted his eyes back down to his shoe-tying before standing up and straightening out his pants. He glanced over at his wife before turning and walking out of their room.

"The kids should be here soon," he called to Francine as he proceeded down the grand staircase and into the living room. He gave Katherine a hug as he past his youngest daughter sitting on the couch and after grabbing his coffee, he sat down next to her.

"So, Katy, are you excited to see all of your big sisters and Vance again?" He asked with a smile, trying to make it less awkward. If there was one thing that Frank hated about his busy work life, it was that he didn't have any time to spend with his kids, and it was now getting even more important because Katherine was his youngest. He couldn't say "oh, I'll just be closer with the next one," like he had with the older children because there was no "next one."

Ben smiled at Ana as she muttered about her family, and how they would like him. He kept one hand on the steering wheel and one in hers as he pulled down the street and onto the highway. The ride was going to be anywhere from twenty to fourty minutes, depending on traffic and the snow that was now slowly sifting down from the sky.

"I've got some nice wine in the back seat, but I didn't bring any gifts for your siblings," he said, glancing over at her to make sure it wasn't a problem. Honestly, Ben wasn't even sure if Ana had more than one sibling. He had heard small things about people, but she never talked about her family and he felt like it wasn't a good topic to bring up.

Ana glanced up at Ben, a small smile playing on the edge of her lips. "It's alright. I got them all something from both of us. I think we should skip this, Ben. It's probably not a good idea anyways. We should go somewhere, away from this town." She was being a slight tease. "We should go to see your family. You know how they love me." She was nervous about seeing her family. It was like re-meeting an entire awful part of her life. "Besides, I don't think my mom and dad would care. I don't think that Alex or Van would care. Katy doesn't care. We can get out of it. Call and say you're sick and I'm going to stay and take care of you. C'mon, you don't really wanna meet them anyways."

She really wanted him to say that he didn't want to meet her dysfunctional family. That he would take her back home. They could spend Christmas together instead of with her family. Truthfully, she was ashamed of her family and they way they fought and always argued about petty things. The way they always seemed to make all the holidays greedy and selfish. They turned everything and everyone against each other. Hopefully, he would sense her distress and turn around, heading home.

Katy began to skim the channels, stopping once she hit the reality TV show, "Jersey Shore". She was only able to watch for a few minutes, because once she heard heavy feet coming down the stairs, she flipped the channel. Although she was sure there her dad wouldn't yell at her for it, she knew he wouldn't approve of a show that was constantly having to beep out words.

She was surprised as she watched her father approach and sit down next to her after giving her a tight squeeze. "Hey dad," she replied with an awkward smile as she shifted in her seat, making more room for him. "Yeah, I guess so," she lied, her eyes turning back to the TV screen as she siwtched the channel to a Christmas movie that was playing on ABC Family. Katy wasn't exactly excited to see her siblings, because she honestly didn't want the family ties to mend. She liked getting the attention that her parents had divided amongst all of their children, and it wasn't bad being the favorite child for once. Although Katy did get bored without Emiliana to bug, she didn't deeply miss any of her siblings.

Ben looked at Ana before rolling his eyes as a small smile peeled onto his lips. His glanced back towards the road and turned on the wind-shield wipers as the snow began to come down harder. "My parents flew down to Florida to be with my sister, so we can't go to my family's house," he reminded her. "Besides, I want to meet your parents and siblings. You never tell me enough about them, so now I'll get to learn first-hand. Come on, it'll be fun," he said with a grin, squeezing her hand tightly before loosening.

"So you have three siblings? Katy, Van and Alex?" he asked, after she explained why they didn't need to go. "And what are your parent's names? How old are your siblings? Are they into sports?" Although they were still atleast twenty minutes away from their destination, Ben was now beginning to panic, because he realized that he knew barely anything about these people. It was going to be awkward spending Christmas Eve and Christmas with people when you didn't even know what to talk about.
_
Frank felt that it was awkward with Katy, but he didn't stand up. After listening to her say that she "guessed" she was excited to see her siblings, he smiled. "Yeah, well you haven't seen Alexis in how long? Three? Four? Five years? And Van in two or three? Emiliana didn't leave us with the best impression of her, but you've got to be missing her atleast." He sank back into the couch and followed his youngest daughter's eyes to the TV screen where a Christmas program was playing.

She glanced at him smiling. "Don't be such a worry wart. Everyone is going to love you." She watched him drive for a while, thinking about how she was going to phrase her family. "Katy's thirteen. She loves to fight with me, so don't worry about that. Van and Alex I kind of lost track of a while ago. They left for college and didn't bother calling so I just, forgot about them," she admitted quietly. Talking about her family made Ana feel awkward. "Everyone at home calls me Emiliana, though I continually tell them to call me Ana. My parent's names are Francine and Frank. You're probably going to be question raped." She was babbling on about unimportant things.

She tossed her hair over her shoulders as she spoke, still babbling about things that were going to happen and little tidbits about her family. She was nervous and when she was nervous she tended to talk a lot more than usual. Most of the time it never made sense anyways. She smiled as she took a deep breath. "All I can say is prepare yourself for a wonderful Christmas."

Tabitha smiled and stretched up her arms, waiting for the luggage to drop into the conveyor belt. The plane ride had been delayed a little more than twenty minutes, but she was sure Vance's family wouldn't mind. She was jumpy to see his family. Sure, she's met his parents a few times before, only his parents. The siblings were a different story, yet she was eager to meet them as well. His family was probably cooler than hers, which lacked spirit in all sorts of holidays. She was the strange one amongst the Delmarie's when they were truly the strange ones. What kind of people don't celebrate Christmas? Give out candy to kids in costumes? Have a turkey as a dinner? All four of her grandparents were no longer alive, and she was an only child. She figured it wasthe lack of family members that made things low on festivity, so a few of the holidays were spent with the Stone's. An tiny sigh slipped out of her mouth as she caught sight of the first suitcases coming down.

Spotting a small black and blue suitcase, she adjusted her grip on her red backpack and nodded her head towards it to Vance. "The luggage, if you may." She grinned playfully, though he probably had already spot it too...unless he was looking around somewhere else, as usual.

Vance was rather sleepy at the moment. Plane rides tended to do that to him, what with being stuck in a seat for more than one hour at a time, boredom sets in making most drowsy. He had just dozed off about twenty minutes before the plane had landed and now, he was still in that half asleep half awake phase. He followed Tabitha to the luggage conveyor belt and watched absentmindedly as the thing trucked along in it's constant circles.

Standing there for a few minutes, his mind understandably wandered to his family with an almost silent sigh. Yeesh. Seems like I haven't seen my family in forever...But..How awkward can it be?.. He thought before Tabs voice brought him back into reality. He blinked and smiled back at her. Well, at least I'm not alone in the awkwardness. Was his follow up thought. Having Tabitha there was definitely a plus. "Oh, yeah, got it." He answered, pulling his hands from his pockets, waiting and heaving the two suitcases off the conveyor belt as they moved by.

"So." He said, once they had all of there luggage. Van slung his duffel bag over his shoulder, and pulled up the handle to one of the roller suitcases. "You ready to meet the rest of the dysfunction that is my family?" He asked with lopsided smile, though honestly, he was entirely serious.

Ben laughed when Ana mentioned that her family called her Emiliana, and although he would never think to call her that, he remembered her mentioning it was her real name a while back. She didn't describe her family in an appealing way, but Ben knew that her feelings towards them would be different than his. He liked to get along with people and his easy going ways usually allowed him to.

"I'm sure this will be an interesting Christmas, Emiliana," he said with a playful grin, "and if it works out we can come back next year. It'll be good for you to see your family again, no matter how much you think you don't like them. You haven't seen them since you left in what; May? I'm sure that they've changed by now. Your parents probably missed you and I'm sure your younger sister did too." He shook his light brown hair out before running his fingers through it.

"So, are Van and Alex bringing their boyfriend and girlfriend too; well, if they have one?" Ben hoped that Ana's family would like him, because he didn't want to be distant from the family of his love. Then again, he didn't want to end up not liking them, but he knew Ana was just exaggerating and like usual, he hoped for the best.

"You're ridiculous," she said through pursed lips as she spotted him holding her lingerie. She moved across the room and snatched it from him, stuffing it back into its proper drawer. She turned to face him, raising an eye brow. "Now, hurry, traffic's probably going to be a nightmare if we don't leave right now. And that will make it a two hour ride." she said, before strutting outside of the bedroom.

Alexis looked around the living room for her purse. Now where did I put that... she thought inwardly, her brows knit together. "Aha!" she exclaimed as she reached down onto the love seat's cushion, pulling up her bag and slinging it over her shoulder. "Ready, darling? The suitcases are already loaded into the car."

"Don't ever call me Emiliana again. I swear to God, Ben, so help me," she threatened. Ana hated her name so much that she never told anyone that was her real name. She pulled her bag closer to her, leaning her head on Ben's shoulder. She was immediately upset she had snapped at him. "Sorry," she muttered. She molled over his other question. Did they have a significant other? For all she knew, they could have been dead. She glanced up at him. "I don't really know. I would guess so, but don't quote me on that."

Then his earlier statement sunk in. "Oh, hell no, Ben. This is a one time thing. You better enjoy your time now because it's not happening again. Oh, no, no, no." Ana was so apposed to this idea that it made her sick. THough she should probably want to spend more time with her family, she could really care less.

"Yeah. I'm the one making us late," he muttered and watched her leave the room. He grabbed his tie off the floor and quickly pulled it back on. Straightening his jacket and buttoning his shirt back up, he grabbed his wallet and the car keys from the top of the dresser and followed after her.

"Let's go," he said smiling. After handing Alexis her jacket, he took her hand and led her out of the apartment to the black Camry sitting outside. He opened the door for her before taking the driver's seat and starting the car for the long drive to her parents house. Turnin the heat on to counter the frigid air he tried to talk himself into not turning the car around, you're going to have to meet them eventually...may as well do it now.

Alexis grinned all the way to the car, and before he could get into the car she took his hand and turned him to face her, planting a kiss on his lips for a lingering moment before saying, "Don't worry, they'll love you." she said, letting go of his hand and climbing into the passenger seat.

"God, it's freezing!" she frowned slightly, wrapping her arms around herself before grinning. She just stared at him as he started the car, one brow raised expectantly.

Tristan glanced at Alex out of the corner of his eye as he started down the street. "I like the tie," he said flatly and without turning to look at her directly. He straightened his shoulders defiantly knowing she hated it. It wasn't like he wanted to annoy her...well maybe a little, but there was nothing wrong with wearing a tie. It was a tie. Not like it was a feathered headress or something. "My mother gave me this tie. And its blue," he said as though that were some great revelation. "You like blue." Knowing that the conversation wasn't going anywhere, he cleared his throat and transitioned to a new topic. "Maybe next year we can go to Boston and visit my mom. You know...for the holidays or something. Maybe even Easter?"
