City of Dust OOC 15 and up only, please. ( )

Postby Billie_blujean on Sat Jun 07, 2008 6:38 pm

"The world in which they live is the same as the world you live in. They watch the same shows, listen to the same music, and eat the same food. Except... when the sun goes down, more of them stay inside. More of them look over their shoulders as they walk to their cars and more of them stay in the streetlights as they walk down the sidewalk. More of them also go missing each year.

The shadows are longer, the nights are darker. More of them are afraid of the dark. And they should be. Because here there be monsters."

Okay, so. We're starting up a new group loosely based on White Wolf's New World of Darkness series of Role Playing Games. For those of you not familiar with it, here are some links that we encourage you to check up on before you decide whether or not to join. First, visit the World of Darkness Wikipedia page and read through the different types of characters available. In case you were too lazy to click the link - you can play a mortal (who is either aware of what's going on or not), a vampire (if so, make sure you visit here), A werewolf (once again, check here), a mage (here), a Promethean (here), or a changeling (here).

You do not need to have read the previous posts of the thread unless you want to play a character that has some sort of relationship with one of the already established ones. Think of it as moving into a new neighborhood - you don't necessarily know your neighbors' histories, you just know what you see presented in front of you.

Then, if you're interested, please contact us at cityofdust@gmail.com (or by private message on here) and we will inform you how we suggest one goes about making a character. If you email, make sure that you post an appropriate topic, or we just might delete you as Spam.

If you're interested in seeing how the game is playing out so far, feel free to read the IC Thread! I'm also very interested in seeing how people who read the game like it so far, so feel free to PM me(billie_blujean) and let me know what you think!

Thanks!

Re: City of Dust OOC ( )

Postby Billie_blujean on Sun Jun 08, 2008 6:01 pm

Character:

Type:
Changeling

Name: Sybil Cleareyes (AKA Miss Fortune)

Age: 5 (apparent age - 25)

Seeming/Kith: Wizened Oracle

Background: All she wanted was to play with her dolls somewhere away from her mean big brother. Instead, she was swept away at 5 years old to read the future for a demented Keeper who had an old phone book and went down the names held within, forcing each person's fortune to be told. 20 years later, she focused on her own name instead of the name her Keeper was reading out loud and the cards she had been given by her Keeper told her how to escape. When she returned, she ended up in her backyard, watching her 5 year-old self walking back up to the house, arguing with her big brother. Approximately 15 minutes had passed.

Physical Description: She has pitch black eyes that make it impossible to see where she's looking and is 5'0, weighing maybe 80 pounds. Her forehead is taken up almost completely by a large third eye that has a bright blue iris. She keeps it covered by a hedgespun bandanna, since it weirds people out - she can't control it and it has a tendency of weeping blood red tears. In human eyes, she looks very small and frail, with a tattoo of a sun surrounding a celtic knot on her forehead. Her Tarot deck is extremely thin and almost see-through. It's made of a very strong material that looks a bit like tissue paper, but she has a very disturbing feeling that she can feel a pulse in the cards and worries (probably correctly) that they're made out of human flesh. The pictures on the cards are constantly moving paintings done by a wizened artist, she believes, and she fears the card Death - which depicts a member of the Gentry who feels familiar and always seems to look into her eyes every time it's dealt. To human eyes, her cards look handmade, and many of her customers express their appreciation at how beautiful they are.

Personality: Sybil is smart, and despite her disturbing appearance, she is quite confident. She makes a living telling fortunes at the local flea market (and just enough of her fortunes come true that she gets many return customers). Sybil has befriended (and ensorcelled) the local Vampire Prince, working as his day-time goto when he's busy. She has also been known to be friendly enough to Mages and werewolves seeking information... as long as the price is right.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Sybil has minor flashes of the future and the occasional prophetic dream. She has a difficult time relating to women, as she spent most of her adolescence chained up in a single dusty library. She also doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut about certain aspects of people she finds off-putting. It makes her seem very rude.

Flaws: The only major flaw Sybil has are terrible nightmares that often leave her grumpy and irritable the next day. She also has a five year old Fetch that replaced her - who wants to make her life miserable.

Opinions:
Vampires: Some are decent enough, others could do with a few lessons on manners.
Werewolves: When they're not assholes, they're fine.
Mages: Think they know too much, and a bit obsessed with themselves.
Prometheans: What?
Mortals: I wish I was with them again.

Re: City of Dust OOC 15 and up only, please. ( )

Postby Raikou on Sun Jun 08, 2008 7:20 pm

Type: Werewolf

Name: Raikou Touketsu

Age: 19 (apparent age - 17)

Auspices: Rahu (The Warrior)

Background: She belongs to the Storm Lords - the tribe of Winter Wolf seeks to lead all Uratha through strength and noble example. Their tribal ban is "Allow no one to witness or to tend your weakness". Following that ban she is closed off to everyone and never lets anyone close. Many say she is the perfect warrior because she shows no emotion. She is very mistrusting and likes being alone. She's always cold and never talks very much if she can avoid talking at all she would. After going throught hell in training she's gotten use to not having anyone to lean on or to help her out. Many of her memories are full of pain and sadness. She dosen't blame anyone for her suffering, but herself. The training that she was put throught still haunts her and the past keeps her from reaching out to others. Also the fact that she's overlooked and seen as invisible. Being ketp at arms length of everyone she thought of as a friend also helped in making her the way she was. No one knows very much about her or her family history. Raikou may be cold and collective like most fighters, but under all that ice she dose have a heart. She maybe a female, but that dosen't mean that she isn't deadly.

Physical Description: In her human form she's 5'7' and weighs about 150. Her body is lean and tone, but not muscular. Her eyes are a cold silver and her hair black with electric blue highlights, going down to her waist. Her skin is a nice tan color and she keeps a invisible cover of ice over it. Its cover is the wall that keeps her locked within herself, she never lets anyone in which keeps everyone safe. No one can see the ice, but if you touch her you will sure as hell feel it. She wears black baggy pants with a dark blue shirt. For foot wear she has black boots that have alittle heel with a hidden dagger in it. When in her werewolf or wolf form her fur is the same as her hair. Also she's smaller than the average werewold and unlike most of them she isn't ugly when transformed, she just looks like a larger wolf. She has a big fluffy tail that also has electric blue highlights. For her weapons she has a big sword that's about the size of her body and she keeps it straped to her back. She also has two pistols, one is black and the other is silver. The sword can be covered with ice and lightning to help her with her attacks. Her pistols' bullets are very shape and can easily pierce throught skin. Some of her bullets have poison on the tip so that they can immobilize or kill you slowly.

Personality: She's cold and would walk away from any chance to help someone. Being kind isn't something she's been tought so she tends to not help out at all. To her people equels pain which is why she keeps to herself alot. To avoid being hurt or hurting someone she stays away. She dose her job very well and loves to fight. When fighting she feels that she's free even if she's not showing what she's feeling on her face, her eyes give many things away.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Her strengths are that she is the perfect warrior and can easily take down someone bigger than her. Her look is almost innocent which throws people off guard so in fights she's underestimated alot. Her weaknesses are that she dose ever thing alone, no one knows how she stayed alive this long without having help in the worse of fights.

Any flaws: Her really big flaw is that she's anti-social. Being looked over and made to be invisible by most of her pack. Many people don't even use her name, they call her "The warrior". Feeling more like a thing to people that she use to think of as family has made her disgusted with being around others. To her its better to stay inside the frozen walls that she has put on her skin. It keeps her as well as others safe and apart.

Opinions about different species - She could careless and if they mess with her she'll kill them. If they don't mess with her she wouldn't mess with them. Mortals are on her hate list because they destory alot of things they don't understand.

I updated it, I think its better now.

Character:

Name:
Antonius "Tony" Gerspacher

Age:
430 (Apparent Age-28)

Type:
Vampire (Nosferatu)

Title:
City's Prince

Covenant Title:
Untamed Visionary of the Curse

Background:
Born in 1578, Tony was around while men like Galileo Galilile, Issac Newton, and Robert Boyle walked the Earth. Born to a noble family in the late 16th century, Tony had the means to be whatever he wanted. Growing up in Europe with a merchant father, he moved constantly. Weary of his high-end lifestyle, he grew bored and made a change in his life. Wanting more, he secretly began living as a slum kid, learning the tricks, the families, and the ways of those less fortunate. His heart was moved as he shared these people's joys and sorrows. Using what resources he had, he devoted what his life to the study of knowledge, seeking to better both himself and those he became acquainted with.

Later, Tony joined a military group, doing the bidding of England's king. After a few short years, he had discovered truth about humanity. Disgusted by the atrocities that humans could commit, he ran away, surviving in the cold woodlands of his homeland. After a few years, he finally had enough. During his travels, he found an old decrepit keep, surrounded by miles of woodland. With his food gone and his spirits low, he entered that dreaded place. He lay himself down upon a stone table, awaiting his slow and quiet death. It was then that he heard the voices, the rasping low whine of other beings. It was at that moment when someone asked him,"Do you wish to live?" that he became an eternal member of the damned.

Personality:
Tony is a noble man, not consumed with self-absorbed notions of grandeur. Tony is a tough leader, taking care of his own, and defending his laws and way of life. A courteous and well kept man, his only downside is his wrathfulness, but it also takes an extreme situation of irritation to trigger these violent episodes. His secretive manner is only fitting an elder member of the Ordo Dracul. Willing to listen to anyone and also with an open door to those under him, Tony looks to his city for a life that he seeks.

Physical Description:
Tony is a tall man, very muscular. At first glance he would seem the type of person you'd rather not be around too long. His face is hidden behind a bony mask. His skin is an ashy black with greenish tones, his sinewy muscles showing as if he had no skin at all. Behind his mask are two glowing red eyes, full of fire. He dresses the part of a smart businessman, often reflecting the fashions of those he wishes to impress or intimidate. The only symbol or adornment on his person is a talisman with a dragon holding a spear.

This is Tony when in frenzy, as rare as this event is...it is almost always ended with the death of something.
Image

Strength/Weakness:
Tony is powerful. Having been around much longer than an average vampire of todays standards, he has seen his share of time. His body and his mind are as sharp as ever and he is a force to be reckoned with. His only real weakness are his bouts of violent rage, some attribute this to the beast inside him, but those who know him know that his beast is him. Maybe he acts out on purpose, maybe not. It may never be known.

Flaw- Ashamed of his face, his mask is never removed in public or around those he does not trust.
Image

Opinions-
Vamps-- Eternal brethren of the damned
Werwolves- A curious and rowdy bunch, There deep seated sense of pride and comradere is admirable.
Mages- Self-absorbed cattle, but fun to watch.
Mortals- The herd, take care of them, and they will nourish you forever.
Promethians- This somewhat new occurrence is somewhat unsettling , but still a marvel of the supernatural.

Just wanted to jump in and say, "Very nice characters so far, very nice." :) I'll probably be starting up the IC group by the weekend, of course, I'll post a link here, as well.

Also, I've taken the liberty to add everyone who has PMed me so far as my friends on this site. I'd appreciate it if you all would do the same. That way, if you want to discuss super-top-secret plans or anything, you can do so without annoying everyone else with OOC postings. Also, this board will stay up and (hopefully) everyone will continue to check it once the game starts rolling.

Also, when posting in the IC site, please follow the rules set up here in the Epic Level Roleplay Post. I'm not trying to win any award or anything, I just want us to keep things running as smoothly as possible. And they're good rules no matter what.

I'll post a full list of rules for the IC posts here after I set up the board - don't worry, it won't be much, just enough to keep things running smoothly.

Character:

Type: Mage

Name: Oriana Reauxdell

Age/apparent age: 24

Path/Arcana: Obrimos (Path of the Mighty)/Forces and Prime

Background: Oriana led a relatively normal life. That is, until her Awakening forced to go on a journey she didn't understand and gave her powers and knowledge that she didn't know how to deal with. Her Awakening changed her immeasurably. With nobody around her to explain to her what was going on, her psyche and mental health took a lot of stress, and by the time she had finished her journey and had started to use her powers, Oriana was but a shadow of the elegant, carefree woman she'd once been. Luckily, she was saved from becoming something terrible by the appearance of Kylen L'Orbitaul, a fellow Theurgist and the man who would become her mentor and her closest friend. Kylen taught Oriana all about the existence of the Abyss and Atlantis, and explained to her why she'd Awakened and what her purpose was. Under his tutelage, Oriana became a capable and talented mage, and by the time she and Kylen parted ways, she was able to hold her own. Now she wanders the world in search of other people in her position, offering her services as a tutor and guide the world of magi so that other people will not have to suffer the way she did.

Physical Description: Oriana stands 5'6", with pale skin, straight raven-colored hair, and deep blue eyes. She is very lean and frail, a trait acquired from spending most of her time in libraries and arcane practice grounds. She is usually seen in long, flowing robes and dresses, in a simple, yet elegant style.

Personality: Oriana is intelligent and good-natured, usually in high spirits. However, she never fully recovered mentally from her experience with the Awakening, and so she is unusually fragile and breaks fairly easily under pressure, having suffered breakdowns in the past. As such, she's very guarded and reluctant to give away more personal aspects of herself.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Oriana is a powerful Theurgist, well-versed in her schools of Arcana. She can use her powers in a variety of versatile ways, from summoning fire and lightning from the ether to creating a shield around her and her allies. Oriana can also call upon pure, untapped mana energy to mold to her will. However, aside from her magical proficiency, Oriana is mentally and physically frail and will easily fall to any kind of attack if you can get through her defenses.

Flaws: The Awakening left Oriana with the feeling that nothing is what it seems, and she was never able to shake that disquiet. Even now, Oriana has a hard time taking anything at its surface value, believing that there is trickery in even the most mundane things, which tends to skew her vision of the world.

Opinions:
Vampires: She's never had much contact with them, although she's read plenty about them and doesn't really like what she reads.
Werewolves: They don't seem any more than wild beasts.
Prometheans: An interesting theory, but she feels sorry for anyone that actually exists.
Changelings: She empathizes with them, knowing what it's like to be uprooted.
Mortals: There's a lot of times when she wishes that she could have her old life back, imperfect though it was.

Re: City of Dust OOC 15 and up only, please. ( )

Postby Bedlam on Tue Jun 10, 2008 3:08 am

Character:

Type: Promethean

Name: None yet.

Age/apparent age: 18

Lineage/Refinement: Galatea/Stannum

Background: When she awoke, all she could hear was the yelling. Before she could scramble to her feet in a panic, she was grabbed and held down by her creator. The creator, knowing that his time was short, gave her a brief knowledge of what she was and what he was. He quickly explained to her the nature and existence of the Promethean before he let her go and stood up. He told her to remain there and stay quiet until things settled down then left the room. It was about a half hour before things were silent once more and she rose up from her spot and creeped out of the room. The sight of her creator's remains were the beginning of her path to becoming Stannum. She quickly gathered some clothing, as her creator had informed her to do, and left the small house in which she was born, not wanting what had happened to him to happen to her. It was only a few days before she was found by a mute Wretched. The Wretched took her into his home where the two started to form an odd companionship as he tried his best to teach her more about their kind. But it wasn't too long before the Disquiet started to affect the area, and the people, around them. A small mob of raging mortals showed up at the Wretched's door one night. They stormed in just as she had found a small hiding spot but was still able to see what was going on around her. Once more someone she had formed a bond with, albeit a brief one, was torn apart by the hands of those affected by their Disquiet. It was then that she vowed to learn to control and manipulate her Disquiet so that she wouldn't end up like those that had fallen before her. When the mob dispersed, she ran away from the scene and has been travelling ever since. It has been only a few months since she was created.

Physical Description: A woman that holds a strange sort of allure and beauty. She stands at about 5'4'' and has a dancer's build. She has long dark brown hair that is usually worn down and straightened. She has a light complextion and her features are almost flawless. She dresses in random clothing, often mismatching and sometimes ragged and worn. Despite her obvious beauty, there is just something about, perhaps something in her cold, dark brown eyes, that gives off that there is just something wrong about her.

http://www.summer-glau.net/gallery/albu ... 08_081.jpg
http://www.summer-glau.net/gallery/albu ... s2_002.jpg

Personality: As she doesn't have a good understanding of speech or English, she rarely talks and sometimes even remains silent when spoken to. She has a bit of a icy demeanor as she tries to keep her distance from others as she knows what can happen if she gets too close for too long. She does not trust very easily or even at all. However, due to her nature, she can't help but try to get close to those that show her affection.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Though the Disquiet is her main weakness, it is also one of her greater strengths. She has slowly started to learn how to control and manipulate her Disquiet from simple things such as dampening the effects of it, to focusing it on individuals and causing others to attack them. There is still much more she can learn in time.

Flaws: Though she is a Galatea and secretly craves acceptance and companionship, her hatred of humanity stands in the way of her nature. She has a lack of understanding for most of human society, even the simplest of things can cause confusion for her.

Opinions: For other supernatural creatures, she has no current opinion of them as she does not know that they exist.
Mortals: There is only one thing she knows for sure about them, they fear and hate what they do not understand.
It's not always that easy to distinguish the good guys from the bad guys. Sinners can surprise you
and the same is true for saints. Why do we try to define people as simply good or simply evil? Because
no one wants to admit that compassion and cruelty can live side by side in one heart.
And that anyone is capable of anything.

I started the IC thread. It can be found here. Before posting, please make sure that you have read the rules below.

1. Don't play other people's characters for them without their permission. There will be occasions where you and another character are talking to one another and it would be easier (and faster) to play both characters at the same time. This is fine if you have the other player's permission ahead of time! I won't butt in unless someone complains to me, in which case I will encourage you to delete the thread and play the scene out appropriately.

2. Don't take liberties with other players' characters, either. If someone makes a show of having their home (or car, or office) secured, don't randomly show up inside their property without permission. I've known people who wanted to do this for "shock" value, but it can really upset some people.

3. Watch your grammar. I'm not saying you have to be perfect every time, but just keep an eye on your spelling. I also stop about every paragraph and read back what I've written to make sure what I'm saying makes sense. Please do the same with your posts. Also, please leave a single white line between each of your paragraphs (just hit enter twice). And remember - please, no signatures on IC posts!

4. I had you post your character's strengths and weaknesses on purpose. If your character has a specific weakness, such as, "Tends to let others tell her what to do instead of making her own decisions," follow that line of your character. It doesn't hinder you, just makes your character that much more interesting.

5. And this isn't so much a rule as it is a heads-up. I'm going to create a new name, something like, "Random occurrence" or something of the sort. All it will be are posts that aren't necessarily related to any one character - just things that happen in the city. Sort of, story-hooks that we can develop or something of the sort.

Anyway, the most important rule is that while we're all here to have fun, that means that everyone else playing with us is also here to have fun. So don't step on anyone's toes, contact me if you have any questions or complaints, or contact the person you have issues with personally. I will not stand for people bitching one another out on either the IC board or the OOC board. So take care to resolve your problems as mature human beings, not snot-nosed brats.

Thanks for reading! Feel free to post whenever and enjoy your game, I hope we can all really make something great here!

Postby Miss Mina on Tue Jun 10, 2008 6:58 pm

Character:
Mina

Type:
Vampire (Gangrel Black Widow)

Age:
74 (Apparent age: 25)

Title:
City Sheriff

Covenant title:
Dedicated Scribe of Hunger

Background:
Mina was born into a poor family in 1934. Still staggered from the Great Depression, her home town was full of those merely trying to eke out an existence. While World War Two brought great stability back to the United States, Mina's family, Russian immigrants, never could seem to find happiness and satisfaction again. Her father took to drinking, and when drunk, he would constantly beat her and her mother.

Shortly after her 18th birthday, she left home, determined to become something more than what society seemed to find acceptable for her - a poor girl working herself to the bone for the barest minimum to survive. She didn't have much luck, and within a few months, she was running with a gang of low-lifes in a nearby city, posing as a man. She found she had an affinity towards violence. As her notoriety rose, so did the attention paid to her, until she was approached by a large Sicilian man, who offered her a shot at becoming something great (at least, as great as she could be doing what she was doing). And so Mina, then known as Pietro, began to learn the fine art of leg breaking for the local chapter of the mob.

Shortly before her 21st birthday, she made a terrible mistake - she fell in love. He was a truly attractive man, strong, full of life, and quite dangerous. She shared her secret life with him, and in return, he shared his secret life with her - he was one of the Kindred. Mina was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for their love. In the city, vampiric laws forbid siring a member of the opposite sex, so instead of turning her himself, he introduced her to the local vampiric matriarch, who took her as her childe. Believing she was a normal Gangrel she rode off with her newfound lover and they lived many happy nights together. Then, slowly, she began to hate and loathe the man she once loved. One night, while helping him to nurse wounds received during a run-in with a few mortal witch-hunters, she struck him a deadly blow, killing him and then devouring his very essence. Her very soul torn asunder by what she had done, she fled to her sire for guidance. It was there that she learned the truth - she was no ordinary Gangrel after all- she was a Black Widow. Upon her discovery of her true "birthright," she fled that horrid place to find a new home.

After many months of travel, she found a city, ripe with supernatural life of all sorts. Taken in by the very leader of this city, she found a new purpose for her unlife. It is by his authority that she uses her power, and that power has grown since her early days. Three quarters of a century old (and having spent half of a century as child of the night), she has finally found herself on top of her game and ready for the next challenge ahead.

Personality:
Mina is a bitch, plain and simple. She won't go out of her way to be nice to you, but she won't be too mean too fast, unless you deserve it. She may not seem it but she would do anything for those she loves. She is completely loyal to her Master and would gladly give her unlife for a task he has set forth. Under her rigid personality is a soft and pliable woman who just wants companionship in her Requiem.

Physical Description:
Mina is a tall woman; very athletic, very limber. Her very way of dress would lend the trained eye to believe that she is an assassin. Her clothes fit tight, but breathe to allow her to move swiftly and surely, with no hindrance from clothing. A small pistol rests at her side and small knives line her legs. She wears her sword on her back - a thin, curvy blade similar to a Kris, but longer. The black widow spider adorning its hilt makes it a truly beautiful piece of death. On the middle of her back is what looks to be a tattoo. It is in fact the deadly mark left on all who are in the Black Widow bloodline, a constant reminder to the true monster that they are.

Image

Strength/Weakness:
Her greatest weakness is her inability to have mortal love, finding that the more she loves the more she hates. Her strength is her ability to shrug most things off. Having been hardened and trained in real life only gave her a more deadly body in her unlife.

Flaw:
Secretive about her current lover, Mina is afraid of showing anything that might jeopardize that relationship. Also, she can get bitchy, which tends to make people not want to be around her, thus making her lonely.

Opinion-
Vamps- Depending on who shes talking to, they're either cool, or dead.
Werewolves- She can relate to the beast that they are with her own beast.
Mages- She is wary of them, tending to stalk them from the shadows and watch.
Prometheans- Having noticed more of them in the days of late, she finds them interesting, to say the least.

Oooh! Things are getting so fun with this! Great work jumping in with my character, Raikou! I was hoping someone would pick up on that! And everyone's opening scenes are so neat! Let's keep up the good work! Oh, and hoorayformostthings - you're perfectly welcome to assume that our characters have interacted with one another before - fortunes, or information gathering, or anything like that if you'd like. Up to you, of course.

I'll get some interaction soon enough, lol. Maybe someone will notice her just standing oddly in front of Tony's building, lol.
