Coming to a Head ( )

Postby Patcharoo on Sat Jan 07, 2012 10:19 am

The following is a part of a plot running in the Multiverse roleplay. I have written it here as it branches a lot of scenes that participation would have been mostly irrelevant in (little more than a single post) and arranging replies from every single player would be too tedious and drawn out. So no need for criticism on writing. This is purely for my players benefits.

Additionally, for my players, there's going to be a tl;dr for reference at the bottom, in case they need to hastily review.

-------------------------

Drakus stood, mouth hanging open, parched, eyes dull lidded as he stared at the burning wreckage crashing down before him. It had been his home his entire life, the manor. It had been through some rough times. Dragon attacks. Hostage takings. Zealous knights. Many things. And through all of it the manor had always remained strong. An old family building that he could rely on. And now he watched it burn. In the space of a bare few minutes one man had burnt it all down.Truthfully, Drakus couldn't hold a grudge. That man's soul was now locked into a crystal, and the body he shared with another was being tended to for being shot in the eye with an arrow.

Truth be told, Kenji looked like shit. Blood was smeared all over his kimono and while his eye had been bandaged he looked woozy. He had lost a lot of blood and didn't seem to know what had happened. In fact most of those who had moments before been living in the manor seemed stunned to some degree. It had stood as a bastion for them, unification of people from so many different races and histories, spanning from the underdark to outer space. But the origin of the attack had been clear. Someone had ordered this house burnt down.

Drakus just couldn't raise the spirit to care.

Walking slowly over to him with two swords was his brother, who knelt down to the sitting Drakus and quietly asked, "Are you alright?" Drakus' only response was a weak shake of his head. One of the swords was offered out, handle first. A familiar tool, it had been used to control the dragons Drakus owned for breeding and selling. "I need you to take this sword,"Alrion said simply.

"Why...?"

Alrion cast a look over his shoulder then back to Drakus. "He destroyed our home, Drakus. Not just our home, but many of theirs too. Somewhere they could feel welcome."

"And what..." Drakus said slowly, "You want me to take up my sword, call my dragons and lead our friends to kill my son?"

"Drakus, tonight your son ordered dead, what, three people at the bare minimum from what we know? And that was without the casualties that could have been caused by a house fire. He's gone too far this time Drakus. It's not other people he's hurting any more." He let out a sigh. "This isn't me asking if you will lead, but if you will join. I'm going with or without you. Eva will come, possibly Avia. If Avia does I can expect the support of Daniel, maybe a couple others. Lumierre will stay with you and that might convince Avia to stay."

"Just how many more lives do you want to risk before you do something?"

Drakus turned his head away, guilt flushing his chest. False gods be damned. Without another word he took the sword and carefully hoisted himself to his feet. "Make sure everyone knows what we're doing..."

"Most of us will go in the Trekker. Daniel has his hoverbike, Kenji his uh... scooter..."
"You want Kenji to join us, after what just happened?"
"He's shaken Drakus. Angry. Have you ever seen the man angry before in your life? He's ready to take action."
"Fine. Make it so. I'll just... stand here and wait for everyone to be ready."

And thus, Alrion was off to make the preparations. They were heading to town to find and confront Ezrael.

(Rahal played by DemiKara)

Wing City was alight with magic. Those sensitive could likely tell far off from the city itself. A large group cramped together in the van it was hard to see, but glass lay everywhere, as if it had rained down, and the tower that had once been a known hideout of Ezrael's was now broken apart and in the air. Daniel's bike pulled up alongside the Trekker and he indicated for the window to come down.

"Alrion!" he shouted for the car, "I'm going to go ahead, see if I can get in there and stop what's going on. Try to keep up!"

And with there the diamond man was off scooting ahead of every body else. Ezrael was standing on top of some hideous creature with a snarling green face, deep sunken eyes and a gaping maw that seemed incapable of shutting. Whether the creature was an insect or arachnid it was hard to tell, it was simply so alien with all its claws and legs. He was distracted, eyes locked on two opponents, and back and forth they slung words. Well, at least it wasn't magic.

And then the seven sections of the tower that floated began to fall. Daniel's hand raised immediately, force in the air reacting at once to catch one piece, the closest to the men, and hold it up. He wasn't alone, either, but his head turned in surprise. "Rahal, Arcanon!" he cried, previously the men being two nemesis, but now they were under attack by Ezrael? What madness had occurred.

With the combined strength of the three the tower stone was deterred, Ezrael letting out a snarl as he whipped his arm back upwards. "Good bye!" he shouted, "To all of you! Enjoy our final hours on this ground!" The tower pieces returned together, but not in their initial shape. The metal warped and the stone churned together in a heap, rising at once to form a new tower that seemed more akin to a fort than the artefact it had been before. The ground too trembled, stone splitting against stone right before Ezrael, jutting upwards to cut off Daniel's bike.

Metal screamed and rocks crashed about as the entire hunk of stone, a great piece of earth twenty meters deep, rose into the air and sailed into the sky, taking Ezrael with him. The Trekker soon skidded to halt nearby and out stepped Drakus, leaning on a cane and weighing up the two men.

"Rahal, we meet again. I take it my son has disappointed a few people tonight?"
"Something like that. He's a bit insane, right now. Really needs a time out."
"He tried to kill a few of us," Drakus answered almost idly, "Say, what are your opinions on dragons and revenge? I'm thinking its about time I introduced him to both."
"Oh please do. I'm tired of this hissy fit."
"What's your favourite colour?"
"Black."
"Excellent choice."

If anyone had witnessed the strange events leading up to that point (the sky turning to glass and falling and large portions of the main street floating off into the sky) then the dragons arriving would probably come to no surprise. Two dozen dragons varying in sizes from horse-sized to ones as big as a house swept in together in one large group, sporting the entire rainbow of colours. The largest of dragons went to Daniel, a large blue lightning dragon that he was all too familiar with. It was mostly because of his immense weight that he needed such a large creature to carry him.

Drakus let out a nervous sigh. "This is all I've worked for. All these dragons. I just hope nothing goes wrong." With a raise of his blade he commanded the creatures to land so the group may mount and take to the skies.

Dragons.

At their forefront was one man, blade raised to command them, to direct them to the great structure in the sky that they would soon bring back down to the earth. There were very few who could withstand such ferocity. But within the fortress another stood, eyes intent and focussed, channelling magic which wrapped up another being transforming them, giving them new shape.

"It is done," he said, "Now go, all of you. I'll direct them to you when necessary, if necessary."

"Thank you, Ezrael. I will be in zhe lower rooms."
"And you want me guarding the ship, eh?"

Ezrael eyes passed over these two beings. They were the closest thing he had to generals. They were monstrosities. He could barely contain his loathing. "Yes. I must go pay my father a visit." He stepped out the door of the tower and took to the skies, great blackened wings unfolding from under his cloak and beating against the night sky to cause him to rise, rise into the air.

"Please, father," he said casually to the air itself, "Do you not realise how vulnerable you have made yourself? Relying too heavily on tools once more."

Rise he did, above the tower, until the New Moon could be seen at his back, and at once he tilted downwards diving for Drakus' dragon. The collision had little impact, it was just physical force against physical force. For a moment Drakus struggled against his son. To his direct right Alrion's face twisted in terror. "Land!" he screamed, magic flashing out to amplify his voice, "Land now!" His dragon immediately banked downwards for the fortress, accompanied by several others.

Drakus as too lost in his own personal struggle to see what was going on, and his dragon too was trying to look over its own shoulder. Their flight path swayed heavily. But then for a brief moment, Ezrael sneered. A flash of magic and a moment later the sword in Drakus hand exploded. The effect was almost immediate. A tight magical control that had kept the dragons in check until now was released, and the largest of beasts immediately tried to throw their passengers off, so that they could turn on each other, the smaller ones becoming panicky and trying to flee. Two dozen dragons broke into an immediate battle, crashing about on the floating island, throwing passengers aside and leading to general chaos.

Ezrael himself casually leapt from Drakus dragon and sailed back to the floor of his fortress, walking slowly back towards the tower-fort in the center.

"Sieana, Avia, on me!" called Alrion at once, "Turn and face me, villain!"'

Ezrael stopped and slowly turned on the spot. "How quaint. You think the weakest amongst you can defeat me?" A lengthy blade began to magically form from his palm. "Then come forth and face your destruction."

And then an absurdly long post full of cliches too much dialogue and not enough quality description, but at least now I can get the plot moving.

-----------------------

Avia nodded swiftly, tugging out the arrow with all her strength.

The image of Ezrael was torn from the air and forced into the tiny crystal at the tip of the arrow, leaving nothing but a teenager, curled up in a ball, bleeding from multiple wounds and already in tears. Alrion sheathed his blade and gave out a cheer of elation. They had done it. They had stopped Ezrael and whatever plans he might have had. The others were arriving, recovering from the initial damage of the dragon disaster.

Before anyone could announce the ease of it all, and comment on how unnecessary it was to call down a squad of dragons which were now lost, a figure at the table cracked its neck, left, then right. The sickening noise drew all attention towards the great monstrosity Kul'Troth. The great green-skinned and alien arachnid seemed to be all that remained.

Alrion drew back to fall in line with the crowd, waving with his hands for Avia and Sieana to do the same.

"MORTALS," their voice screamed, a painful sound, "YOUR IGNORANCE KNOWS NO LIMIT. YOUR FLESH WILL BE FEASTED ON SHORTLY. I WILL DEVOUR THE MAGES WHO SOUGHT TO CONTAIN ME FIRST."

"EZRAEL."

"RAHAL."

"ARCANON...."

"If anyone has any back up tricks, now would probably be the best time to employ them," Alrion said with a frown.

Only one event from there mattered. Audrey O'Dell's summoning.

"No." It was a small comment, coming from Ezrael, who stood, facing Kul'Troth. "No no NO!" he shouted, like a child throwing a tantrum. He raised one hand and indicated towards Kul'Troth. "You are still under my command!" If only for a moment, the thing stared on, head tilting ever so slightly in a curious manner. A child? Laying claim on an Eater of Worlds? Amusing.

But the blond boy seemed to miss the humour of it as he turned around, locking his blue-eyed gaze on one member of the group.

Dree.

He seemed to struggle for a moment, face contorting in pain, arms clutched to his chest as he let out a a horrific scream. His foot was raised and plunged to the floor, splitting it at once. Their entire side of the floating island shifted downwards. And at once Ezrael was off, lunging towards the group, fist first aimed for Audrey's stomach eyes full of raw primal rage. Others scampered to the side in a desperate scramble for safe ground, not wanting to be left on the sinking portion which Ezrael so willingly committed himself too.

------------------

Ezrael returne, great crow-like wings extended from his back as the youth landed. They folded around him for a moment, before retreating, leaving only a pair of shades on his face. Blood soaked along his arms to his hands. He turned around to face the group who opposed him before fist met palm.

"What the fuck is wrong with...
All of you."

"You're all horrible people! Every last one of you is fucked in the head! From the idiot who won't pick up a sword to save his on god damn family," he said, pointing straight for Kenji, who flinched, "To the one who would kill a child before I did anything wrong!" His accusation became levelled at the diamond man. "Oh and its not just those extremes. People who won't keep their noses out of other peoples business," his finger jabbed aggressively for Avia and Alrion and Lumierre and Ezikren. "Friends or not friends I don't know what the fuck you two were thinking!" he lashed out at Arcanon and Rahal. "Or why you even got involved!" He was now shouting at Sieana and FangSpirit.

"Are you quite done?" asked Drakus, the sternness of an angered parent in his voice.

"You are the worst! Do you know what happens in the future? I search for mom. I find her. I save her. If I could do it, then why the fuck couldn't you? You were so fucking eager to give in without a fight the moment another woman placed herself in your crosshairs you selfish negligent fuck! You cared more about her than you did me!" His arm gestured angrily for Lumierre. "Where was my affection dad? Where were you when I needed you?"

"Well y'know what? Fuck. This."

The ground began to tremble as he raised a hand.

"If I have to die here, I'm becoming a martyr and taking you all with me."

"Orbiting over our heads is a meteor carrying the twelve siblings of Kul'Troth. The meteor is headed straight for us. Kul'Troth assures me that his siblings will live. In twenty minutes it won't matter either way because we will all crushed to death!"

"Oh but that's not all. There's so much more that you have just walked right into the middle of like the stupid bumbling idiot heroes you all want to be. Even if you stop the meteor, the eviscars are going to go crazy. They just eat and eat and eat and get bigger and bigger. They're going to eat all the fucking trees and destroy all of nature."

"But no, go ahead and kill them all. And stop the meteor. Then you still have to stop me. And you know what? While I'm not driving this shitty island, I'm keeping it afloat. Kill me and we all fall to our deaths. So FUCK YOU ALL!"

"I'm glad you're all going to die."

"And so you don't try to come after me, Kul'Troth is going to stand guard."

And with that he turned, walked away and went into his fortress constructed from the broken tower.

There was a brief silence, which was hastily punctuated by Daniel. "Avia, come with me. We can stop that meteor."

Alrion turned around slowly. "Alright, we may only have a short amount of time so we're going to have to split up. Sieana, can you take FangSpirit to find whatever it is that is controlling this island? He said he's not 'driving' it, so something else controls its flight path. We need to get it away from above the city. Try to lower us down to a lake. Then we need someone to handle the eviscars. Try to kill their queen or something of the sort-"

"We'll do it," said Kenji, placing a hand on Asterid's shoulder as well as Ezikren's.

"Alright, get moving."

FangSpirit, Kenji and the others too left.

"That leaves just one small problem before we reach Ezrael," Alrion said, casting a glance over his shoulder to Kul'Troth.

"DO NOT PATRONISE ME MORTALS. I AM WITHIN HEARING RANGE OF YOUR UNNECESSARILY LOUD AND DELICIOUS VOCAL BOXES. I WILL ALLOW ALL OF YOU TO PASS EXCEPT THE TWO WHO I WISH TO DEVOUR FOR THE INDIGNITIES I WAS SUFFERED AT THEIR HANDS."

There was a momentary pause of uncertainty. "Lumierre, Eva, Drakus... We need to go stop Ez... Drakus. Drakus!"

The man barely seemed conscious. He certainly wasn't ready for the slap he received. "Snap out of your self pity for just a minute and try to do something that will save your friends!" He blinked, swallowed and nodded.

And with that, the four left Arcanon and Rahal to face the monstrosity Kul'Troth.
