They wheeled him into the hospital on a stretcher, right after the other girl. She was clearly in a more critical condition than Ira. He could feel the cool air rushing onto him-- a pleasant contrast from the hot, sticky air outdoors. But along with the cold came the smells. Blood, mostly. Of course, the hospital attempted to cover it-- the sterile smell of antiseptic was strong as well. Most humans wouldn't be able to smell the blood under that smell, but Ira wasn't a human. There was lots of blood here and bloodlust was going to drive him mad if he stayed here too long.
In fact, he barely controlled it as it was. As soon as the smell hit, he sat up sharply. The paramedics were shocked for a moment-- he had been playing unconscious, after all-- but they soon regained their composure and pushed him back into a vertical position. Ira didn't struggle too much, though he could have broken free of their grip if he'd wanted to.
He nearly did too, spotting who was on the stretcher in front of him. The girl-- the witness. She had also been in the ambulance. He furrowed his brow. Had the hunter gotten her? No, they wouldn't leave her alive in that case. Point was she was here-- probably still human. This was too easy.
They started asking him questions in rapid fire. 'What was his name? Did he remember what happened? Is there anyone he wanted to contact?' He just mumbled incoherently, hoping they would leave him alone if they thought he was drowsy. They did.
As he was checked again in the emergency room, he had to pin himself down. He couldn't leave yet. It was all working out fairly well.
Finally, he was wheeled into a room and sedated. They doctors left-- none of his injuries were very serious, and they went to attend to the patients that needed urgent treatment. Once he was sure he was alone, Ira sat up sharply again. The drugs were already starting to make him drowsy. There was sure to be some sort of alarm that went off when the drip was removed, so he thought everything over first.
Find the girl, bite her quickly and get her out of here. It sounded so simple when the details-- like where she was being kept and where he would take her to-- were excluded. But he didn't have time to think of them. The drugs were already starting to grip him. He took a deep breath, and ripped the needle out of his wrist.
He let out a hiss of pain, but didn't dwell on his bleeding wrist. he immediately leaped out of the bed and made his way to the door. He was dressed in a hospital gown and obviously a patient. The ride to the hospital had left him to rest and he had a bit more energy as he dashed out the hall.
There were calls behind him as he ran, but he ignored them, pulling out of the the weak grips of nurses. His eyes darted all over as he ran, and he muttered darkly under his breath. Where was she?
In perfect timing, she passed on a stretcher in front of him, heading to the operating theatre. She was alone in there for now, and it was his perfect chance. He shoved the door open and looked at her. She certainly wasn't looking her best.
He took a deep breath, looking down at her. Suddenly, he was starting to doubt. Was it fair to condemn her to a fate as disgusting as vampirism? He shook his head. There was no time for thinking and doubts, only doing.
He came up to her body, and plunged his teeth into her neck, his unnaturally sharp canines tearing through the flesh with ease. Leaned over the body, he took a deep swallow of blood, by instinct. It was so fresh and warm, energizing. He could just drink and drink and--
There were people coming! He let out a strangled cry, tearing himself away from her neck with all his will power. The wound was still bleeding freely, and he swallowed, licking the remaining blood from his lips. He glanced back where the doctors were and grabbed her lip body. As he ran, the needles and masks on her were ripped free.
He plowed through the crowds, running as fast as his worn feet could take him. Even the woman's blood hadn't eradicated the sedatives from his system, and his movements were slightly sluggish, the woman in his arms slowing him down even further. But the venom was in here system, it was only a matter of time. He didn't know what it would do though... would she wake up from the venom? Or would the drugs have to wear off?
