[[The Out of Character Thread! Click the link for my giant list of vampire rules as well as some character sheets, rules, and all that crudola. We can still take three more children in the human family and two in the vampire family, the vampire can take a fledgling (but he'd A.) have to be a boy, and B.) take up a 'child' slot in the vampire family) and we could also have other characters, but I'd prefer it if the child slots were filled in one or both families before that happens.

Setting is Washington D.C., modern day. No werewolves. Sorry.]]

[[Current characters:
Vincent Flint, played by yours truly
Lucy Merle, played by Marred_Shell
Rachlie Merle, 15, played by Angleaya Z.
Selena Louis Flint, 17, played by .The-Red-Queen.
Emery Flint, 19, played by Kira Walker]]

[[I can't think of a good first post...and I've dawdled long enough. I should not let my own writer's block drag down the entire RP...so you guys can start when you like.]]

Selena lay in a queen-sized canopy bed with black lace hangings and a black satin bed set. Her curtains were black lace over solid black fabric that blocked out the sun beautifully. In Selena's room there was a dark mahogany desk that was neatly organized, a matching dark mahogany dresser and a matching side table with a lamp that had black lace over it. Her walls looked like it had gold vines intricately carved into a dark blue wall. The patterns were random, but they all seemed to flow beautifully into one another. Her carpet was a deep crimson color and she had a dark mahogany ceiling fan above a small chandelier that had black crystals instead of white. There were three doors in her room, all of them the matching dark mahogany. On led to the hall way of her house, one led to an adjoined bathroom and the other led to her fairly spacious closet.

Selena was wearing a black silk nightgown that had lace lining. Her hair was fanned out around her face, giving her an angelic look, and her hands were folded on her chest, similar to Snow White. On her night stand sat an alarm clock. It was a simple digital clock that read 6:59. When the clock turned to 7:00 an alarm sounded and Selena's brilliant emerald eyes flashed open. She slowly rose from her sleeping position and looked at the offending clock. She reached over and hit the button that turned off the damned device before throwing her covers off of her and getting out of bed.

Her nightgown swept around her ankles as she walked over to the window that looked out onto the street. She slowly pushed back the curtain to see the sunlight and then quickly let it fall back, a small sneer on her face as she realized it would be another bright day. She walked over the door that led to her closet and opened it, looking at the many dresses and outfits that filled it, many with laces and frills. That day she decided to pull out a red plaid dress that had a white front with four small, red buttons on either side of it. It was lined on the sleeves, neckline, and hemming with black lace and it hung around her knees. She pulled on black stockings that went up to the bottom of her knees and a pair of black doll shoes with heels.

After Selena was dressed she walked into her bathroom and performed her morning bathroom ritual. After that was complete she started on her make-up. It was simple that day. Black eye-liner over an intense red and a little bit of mascara. She then put on crimson red lipstick with pink blush that stood out on her pale face. She brushed out her hair then put a black bonnet that had black lace and a white underlining. She put on a few rings and then headed out through the third door.

Selena walked down the stairs that led into the dining room, looking for her father. It was a Monday morning and she wondered if he was even awake yet. She had to go to the dull and boring school that she dreaded. She loved her style of clothing, but others didn't find it exactly inspiring so she got some criticism for it, though she never let it get to her. Why should she care about mortals feelings towards her when she could eat them whenever she wanted. Besides with her personality a confrontation was enjoyable, especially if she knew she could tongue-lash them.

Selena walked into the kitchen and after seeing that her father wasn't awake yet she walked up the stairs to his bedroom door, lightly tapping on the wood before calling out.

"Father, are you awake yet? I'm leaving for the hell we fondly call school soon."

She waited patiently for an answer since she knew he could hear her. If he didn't answer it meant he wanted to sleep more and she would just let him be.

It was seven in the morning, and the sun had just risen high enough above the horizon to splash rays down into the city streets, the buildings casting shadows against the glare that tried in vain to hold on to the daybreak twilight. Not Emery's favourite time of day, by any means; it marked the time when he had to retreat indoors. On the more positive side, it marked the time he was able to get home and lose himself in oblivious sleep. Blue eyes hazy from a long night of work, the young man yawned widely as he swung open the door and stepped back inside his home, dark crimson hair ruffled and messy. The place was quiet, the only sounds the normal sounds his sister made when she went through her daily morning ritual before school. He sighed and shook his head as he kicked off his boots and stepped inside; it was ridiculous. Why wouldn't she go to night school like any sensible girl of their kind? It seemed like an awful lot of inconvenience for no good reason to him. However, he didn't much care; what she did was her business and something he didn't much want to get involved in.

He pulled off his jacket, something resembling an old military jacket he'd picked up from a used clothing store one day, and continued into the house, barely stifling another yawn. He was dressed in his usual attire: a pair of black jeans so old that they were now a dark grey, and an almost equally old t-shirt advertising a rock band most people had probably never heard of. Above his right eye, a small hoop pierced his eyebrow, and his left ear was pierced as well with a small black stud, and a small silver spike. As he made his way to the living room, he passed his sister standing outside their father's bedroom. He paused, knocked her lightly on the top of the head (since he couldn't think of a smart-ass comment to start off her day with), and this time was unable to hold in another yawn as he continued on his way without bothering to wait for a response.

He reached the living room and promptly took his spot on the couch, laying out across it with his feet resting at one end and his head reclined at the other, eying the curtains over the windows. There was a small crack where some light might just be able to worm its way inside in an hour or so, but he'd be long in bed by then since there probably wouldn't be anything decent on television at this time. Just in case, he grabbed the remote and flocked on the T.V., beginning to sift through the channels without paying much attention to what was actually playing. From what he did see in small clips and scenes, he caught mostly just cartoons aimed at very young children, a few infomercials, a music show about some horrible wished-he-could-watch-her-die pop singer, and something he guessed was supposed to be educational television and documentaries. He ended up sticking with this, letting a show about the history of eastern Germany play on low while he covered his face with an open television guide and closed his eyes. He wasn't going to actually go to sleep yet; he figured he'd rest until he knew whether or not dad had anything he wanted done this morning, then eat something quickly before going to sleep for the day before work again tonight.
No, I'm not the girl your mother warned you about.

Her imagination was never this good. <33

[[And we're off! Like a heard of turtles...sorry for the wait...I've got finals and stuff...]]

Vincent heard a soft knock on his door. He mumbled something that probably contained swear words to himself as he arose and put on his bathrobe.
"Father, are you awake yet? I'm leaving for the hell we fondly call school soon."
"That you must," he muttered teasingly, "it wouldn't be hell otherwise."
Raising his voice, he asked for the time. Upon finding his glasses, he glanced at the clock across the room. "Seven o'clock? Really?" he said, exasperatedly. He reminded himself to either get to bed earlier at night, or take a nap during the day. Somehow, a midday nap, while seeming more natural, made him feel old.

He opened the door and found his daughter, Selena.
"Honestly, woman," he said, ever-critical as any father would be, "You don't need to wear makeup to school. I mean, maybe if you went to your brother's, but a day school? Honestly? Who are you trying to impress?" Selena had often criticized him for this chastisement, because he was, himself, seeing a mortal. Still, he didn't want his little girl getting in with the wrong sort...and mortals just weren't as civilized.
"And what are you wearing?" he added, knowing full well that this was the same sort of thing Selena wore every day. "This is America, not Japan. This isn't some manga," he said, pronouncing "manga" properly, unlike most adults, "it's real life." He paused, meditating on the fact that neither of them were technically "alive." "Well, close enough anyway."

He grinned and kissed his daughter's forehead. "I'll go make bacon, shall I? Will you be driving yourself?"

[[I would have him go to the kitchen and get more description in, but it'd be better to wait for Red Queen, eh?]]

Rachlie's feet landed on the off white carpet that sat in her room as she walked to the bathroom. She took her morning shower as usual and wrapped herself in a pink towel. She went back to her room to pick out what outfit she would wear today. Her closet held a wide variety of dresses, from black and depressing, to wild and colorful. Her hand reached out, landing on a deep purple dress with a high neck line. It flared slightly as it passed her hips and reached just above her knees.

She walked down stairs, wondering if anyone was up yet, and started to make her self breakfast. It wasn't anything special, just some toast and cereal, but it was better than nothing. Rachlie let her hair air dry before brushing it and tying the sides back, letting her bangs hang. She sat on the couch waiting for her mother to come down and take her to school.

Selena glared at her brother who decided to knock her on the head. Then she rolled her eyes at her fathers comments on her attire, but she knew it really meant nothing. If he really wanted her to change he would just out right say it. She really didn't want to impress anyone, she just had her own style. And she didn't want to go to night school because she secretly enjoyed watching the humans stare at her.

"I realize that father, but I like my clothes and I have no intention of changing my style just because some humans think it is odd."

She let her father kiss her forehead, nodding as he made his way towards the kitchen.

"I would like some bacon. And I'll drive myself today. After school is over I might go and find something to eat. I don't want to become an animal."

Selena hated it when she lost control of her human senses so she fed on a regular basis, at least once a month, and it was getting to be that time. Selena had a strict rule, and also one of her fathers as well, that they didn't feed on those they knew or who went to school with them. She preferred blood type O negative which wasn't as rare as everyone thought it was, it just took her a little longer to find it, which she had. A young man, about early twenties, who lived about four blocks from her school. She had been stalking him for about a week.

She walked down the stairs with her father and into the kitchen, sitting down at the small table they used for breakfast. She liked bacon, though it wasn't her favorite human food it was definitely her favorite human breakfast food. She waited patiently as her father prepared it, watching the clock tick away. She knew she would make it in time for school, she just liked to watch clocks.

"I don't want to become an animal."
Vincent sighed. Selena was so young...so inexperienced. She needed to understand the subtleties of her nature, but Vincent could never work enough courage to talk to her about it. She needed a mother. No, she needed a vampire mother, but that was something Vincent didn't think he could give her. Vincent rarely found himself hard pressed to find a lover, but someone he wanted to spend his life with? Or, whatever he had that passed for a life. Someone he wanted to help raise his kids? That was a harder find.

Vincent poked at the sizzling meat with a fork. Bacon wasn't his absolute favorite food in the world, but it was quick, and he was hungry. And he adored the smell. The drawn curtain across the window behind the stove let enough light through to illuminate the frying pan and stove.
