Misteor finished dinner and stood up to wash the dishes. Again, Yuhi began rambling about how he was a good brother and blah, blah, blah... And again, he went upstairs and took out the notebook, waiting for someone to put a criminal's face and name up on the news...

[Yeah, yeah, I know it's short. But I have nothing else to do until you broadcast. Haha. Better than rambling nonsense like I have been...]

The news broadcast was set for 8:00. Suddenly all of the programs were interrupted.

"We interrupt this program for a special worldwide broadcast," The announcer said. A woman in her late twenties sat behind a desk, she was a beautiful woman who had a businesslike air about her. Her dark hair was pulled back in a bun or ponytail. She looked ahead at the camera calmly.

"I am Alyssa Melbourne, also known as the great detective Athena," she began, steadily, "And I have a message for Kira. You are misguided. You see this as the best solution for crime, but you are wrong. You are a murderer, a fiend, no better than those criminals you kill. No, I would say you are worse, Kira, you are selfish and childish, with an over inflated sense of pride. But I tell you Kira, I will find you, and make sure you will receive the maximum sentence for your crimes."

"What? Childish?! I am not childish. I am a God, Alyssa Melbourne. And you're dead..." Misteor said angrily, taking his pen and writing "Alyssa Melbourne" across the page in big letters, forcing her to admit that Kira was a God and then having a heart attack. "So much for the great Athena..."

The screen went dark and flickered, before showing a white omega sign. The voice that followed was a high electronic one that reminded one of insects.

"Incredible!" Athena laughed, "I cannot believe it worked so well! Kira, you can actually kill without lifting a finger! But, of course, I am the real Athena, the person you just killed was a criminal, sentenced for execution today. She was apprehended and kept in complete secrecy, so you would have not had any knowledge about her. And now, kill me if you can, Kira!"

"Damn it!" He yelled. This "Athena" was smart after all... "Why didn't I notice that before..."
"And now, kill me if you can, Kira!" Athena yelled. But it was just an Omega sign and the name Athena... He couldn't do it. So he sat helplessly to see what "Athena" would do next...

Athena chuckled, "You can't, can you? Well, Kira, now I know two things about you. One, you need a name to kill, and two I know where you are, you see, although it was announced that this was a worldwide broadcast, it was not, this broadcast was only shown in Japan." Athena could hardly hold back another laugh, this was amusing. "I will catch you Kira, and I will make sure you pay for your crimes. I am justice."

[Yep. Japan.]

"Damn it, damn it, damn it!" Misteor yelled. That damned Athena... Her laughs were torture...
"I am justice." He heard the voice say. Then he laughed.
"I am justice, stupid Athena... I am ridding this world of the scum!"
"Hey, it's alright. How's she supposed to know it's you? Japan is a big place..." The Shinigami said.
"Yeah, I suppose you're right..." Misteor said with a sigh.
"Now can we get some meat? I'm sooo hungry..."

Athena's chin rested on clasped hands as the broadcast abruptly ended and the programming returned to normal. Japan...hmmm, it was to be expected, since the beginning of the criminals deaths were in Japan and that was where the majority of the deaths were. It was still a large area to cover, but it was better than, say, Russia or China.

"Akira," Athena said into a microphone that was connected to an ear piece that Akira always wore, "Who is the highest ranking police investigator in the Japanese sect of our Kira investigation?" Akira was quiet for a moment, thinking.

"Yakao...something, a woman, why?" Akira asked, though he knew Athena wouldn't answer.

"Hmm...does this Yakao woman have any children?" Athena asked.

"One moment," Akira said, he was going through the files on his laptop, "Yes, two." Athena sighed.

"Then she cannot be counted on to remain if things get rough," were the murmured words, "Akira."

"Yes?"

"I will be in Japan by tomorrow."

"Very well, things will be arranged for your arrival."

Misteor sighed and went downstairs. His sister had left for a date with her boyfriend.
"Alright... beef, beef, beef..." The Shinigami said, taking it from the fridge and popping leftovers in the microwave. "Yum, yum, yum..." It said, drooling and rubbing its hands together.
"Will you relax? Some super-investigator is driving me crazy!"
"Chill, man... It's like I said. It's not like she'll find you easy."
"No, she will... She'll look for my mom to aide her... Then search everyone in the city... It won't be long..."
"Yeah, but how will she know that you're Kira?"
"You don't understand the capabilities of the human mind..."

Athena didn't quit working, even on the flight to Japan.

As the small figure got off the plane, Akira walked up. A small packet of papers were handed to him and he read through them. A couple of blinks and he looked at Athena.

"Are you sure?" he asked. A nodding of the small, dark-hared head. "...But..."

"I think that if Kira didn't know that Alyssa was a criminal, there is potential for him to kill others who are not criminals. I don't want to test it out, but the potential is there." Akira nodded.

"Should we tell the police?" Akira asked.

"No need to spread fear," Athena said.

"Shall I take you to the hotel now?" Another nod.

"Kukuku... You humans really are something..." The Shinigami laughed.
"Stop. I understand your excitement, but there's chance they'll find the notebook..." Misteor said coldly. "This just got a lot more difficult..." He said with a sigh, looking hard into the notebook cover.

Once Athena was safely settled in at the hotel, sitting cross-legged on the sofa in front of the TV with a coffee table and a computer near at hand, Akira felt the need to speak again.

"And what about the other thing you have here?" he asked. Athena looked at him and smiled.

"Investigating the police force?"

"Well, um...yes," Akira said. Athena's head tilted to the side.

"Isn't it obvious? I need to make sure that none on the task force or their relatives are Kira, how can I trust them if I am not sure that they are not trying to kill me?" It sounded logical to Akira.

"But..." he wavered.

"Oh, yes, I know, there is only about a 5% chance that in all of Japan, any of them might be Kira, but, still, every lead must be taken... Of course we need to have some outside sources investigate, because we cannot cause an uproar amongst the Japanese police. The American FBI perhaps? Hmm, it is a possibility..." Athena continued to muse and Akira walked away, terrified of where this investigation might lead them.

[Meh. Post again. If you want, I can use Mist's mom if you want to contact her.]

[Alright, that would be nice.]

Athena's hands were placed flat against each other and the sharp eyes looked over top of them. Every bit of information was being scanned over completely. Everything was being looked over twice. The eyes moved back and forth, up and down, gazing at the computer screen, then suddenly they froze. Several pieces of information were placed overlapping on the screen and were sent to the police to looked over.

"Yakao-san," Athena said, "What does this look like to you?" It was a list of times of the deaths of criminals, they seemed to have a pattern.

"Jailed criminals dying of heart attacks. And these ones are stabbing themselves... Are you saying that Kira can do this? But you said that Kira was human. That looks quite inhuman, Athena..." Kurenai Yakao said to the tiny investigator. She seemed cute enough for her little Misty. No matter how busy she was, she was finding him a girlfriend...

"It is possible," Athena mused, "Perhaps, but I was referring more to the time, there is a pattern here. Is there not?" The thing hands toyed with a strand of black hair. A small sigh escaped the frowning lips, "When I learn how you are doing this...Kira, you must pay." The eyes closed for a short amount of time. A couch shook the frail shoulders and Athena leaned back, slipping a couple of white pills into her mouth, they were toyed with for a short time as her mind considered all she had seen, then she swallowed them. "Hmm, I feel like ice cream, does everyone else want ice cream?"

"This isn't the time for snacking..." Kurenai said. "Let me call my son. He's been looking into the Kira case. Perhaps he knows something..." She said, dialing the number.
*Timeskip*
"I'm here, mom. What's wrong?" Misteor asked.
"Hey, Misty. I was hoping you could help us with the Kira investigation. This is Athena."
[Running out of space, sorry...]

Athena didn't exactly approve of Kurenai calling her son and asking him to join the investigation like that and she didn't trust this son of Kurenai, of course she trusted no one. She looked at Kurenai with growing disapproval as she spoke with her son. Then she snatched the phone from her.
"Hello," she said, "My name is Hayata Reii, I work for Athena." Her real voice was rather high pitched, but song like, despite the fact that is was quiet and sometimes faded to almost nothing, but that was because she was thinking and often forgot to realize that others could not hear her thoughts.

Ath.. Athena... Was all Misteor could think. He was face-to-face with his enemy. "P-pleasure... Takao M-Misteor..." He said, though that sounded suspicious. "Sorry for the stammering... I'm just such a fan of your genius."
"Yeah, my Misty here is SUCH a genius! He is such a tactician and deep thinker! I'll be right back. I'll get that ice cream." Kurenai said, and left. They were alone. "Why did she call? Can't you two figure this out?" He asked without suspicion. One wrong move could mean exposure.

Athena didn't say anything. She sat on the sofa, her feet tucked under her. With a swift movement she scooped up a clip made for holding closed potato chip bags and put it in her hair to keep it out of her face. Looking at her it was clear that she would have been very pretty if she just took better care of herself. About the size of an anorexic eleven-year-old boy, she was still very feminine and rather busty, but she hid it by wearing clothes that were at least five sizes too big for her. Her hair was dull and flat because it was sheared off clumsily by either herself or Akira and washed with hand soap.

Still silent, Athena stared at Misteor with mistrust. Her eyes were so dark they might have been called black and with the dark circles under them they looked almost evil, and paired with the blank face, it was a sight that would frighten anyone with anything to hide, especially because her gaze seemed to penetrate, to see everything. Athena knew that there were two types of people that she worked with, the kind that were good to the very core, and the kind who put on a mask of goodness to achieve their ends. She had no doubt that the mother was the former, but she fear that the son was the latter.

"You may call me Reii-chan," she said, ignoring his question, "May I call you Misteor-kun?"
