If you've seen the movie, you can see that it is indeed a battle, so of course we can have battles here in the same style.
All you need to do is describe your car and what makes it unique for death race. You have anything at your disposal that anyone can get without losing an arm and a leg. Weapons, armor, speed, whatever floats your boat, just not super powered cars.
