Raphael fumbled with his keys, searching for the outer apartment key. The cold hard rain beat against his hat, soaking his hair and the top of his shoulders. Cursing, he dropped his keys and watched as they flew down the steps to the apartment.
Raphael rolled his eyes, sighed and mumbled, "Just my luck."
He set his beat up cotton backpack on the top step in a big water puddle and stumbled down the stairs to his keys. This was a perfect end to his perfect day. When he had woke up this morning, he'd fallen out of bed and onto Fluffy, who in turn scratched him on the face. Then, on his way to work, a pick pocket had swiped his wallet and he had to chase him down, which made him 40 minutes late to work. And boy his boss wouldn't let him forget it. She rambled on all day about lazy workers that quote, "Don't give a crap about anyone but there fat late selfs". After work, he headed over to the animal shelter to do his daily service and ended up in the back of a car tied up. Some black guys had grabbed him off the street and had claimed him as their hostage. After a two hour car ride where his life was threatened atleast a hundred times, he had to sit in the police station and answer any questioned the police asked.
So it was now 11:30 and he had dropped his keys down the stairs and into a big puddle infront of the apartment building.
He bent over and picked up his keys, turning around to glance up at the building. And he had to return to this piece of crap. It almost loomed over him, but it wasn't as tall as the other buildings, only having four stories. The red brick once vibrant, now was covered in who knows what, making it an almost burgundy. There was a row of small windows for each story and some containing small window boxes full of dead flowers. The manger had wanted to spice the place up and it hadn't worked.
Raphael groaned as he climbed the steps again to face the two old wooden doors. He flicked through his keys until he had found the one he was looking for, slipped it into the keyhole and grabbed his bag. With a gentle push he opened the door and walked into the entrance of apartment building. It wasn't so much an entrance as just a small room with a chair, a fake tree in the corner and a wooden sign reading, "Purple Dinosaur". He flung his bag over his shoulder and acended up the flight of stairs to his apartment. When he had almost reached his floor, his foot snagged on the edge of the step and he fell flat on his face.
"Fuck", Raphael muttered into the disgusting carpet. He pushed himself up and dusted off, trying to act alittle dignified. He turned to the left and spotted his apartment. Number 23, the third apartment on the third floor. It was a little weird that the apartment on the third floor was the 23rd apartment, but then again, the name of the apartment complex was "Purple Dinosaur".
This time he had his keys ready and he quickly slipped them into the keyhole, openning the door. He slammed the door behind him and flung his keys onto the entrance table and threw his bag down. Instantly, Fluffy came running to his feet and began rubbing against his legs. Raphael took in a deep breath, and ended up coughing on the smell of pot. His bestfriend and room mate was a druggie. But Raphael didn't care as long as the real smoking stayed out of any room but his. Zack had faithly stick to the rule, but that didn't mean the smoke didn't come out from under the door. Raphael flicked off his shoes and picked up Fluffy, setting her on his shoulders.
Raphael walked through the entrance hall and into the living room to find Zack sitting there on the couch. He shook his head and grinned at his friend, "Hunny, I'm home."
