Dionysus, what brings you to Roleplay Gateway?
Heh, well I was first introduced to the GT League Forums in August of 2006, when my old friends Nonpareil and Victor Kuroji asked me to join the grand tournament. It was alright, Nonpareil started winning almost every fight he was in and started getting really cocky about it, so we had a lot of haters at first. Victor did alright, I lost one fight against Xela Vydust, but we all kind of withdrew from the GT League after a while due to internal affairs. The gamemaster of that site was Crescendo, who introduced me to the Roleplay Gateway Forums later on that same month. I've been here ever since, making contributions to Roleplay Gateway.
What are some of your contributions to Roleplay Gateway?
Well, when I first started hanging around Roleplay Gateway there was a lot of internal struggle between members of various roleplaying communities, particularly in the textual combat communities, so I faced a lot of problems from haters when I first got here. But after a while, I started making friends in GWing Chat who motivated me and inspired me to ignore all the haters and keep on playing. I started going around targeting certain individuals who were causing problems in Roleplay Gateway, or just anyone who seemed to me like they needed a role model, and I started setting little examples using textual combat as a means of discipline.
I got into a couple of on-line fights on the Roleplay Gateway Forums and in GWing Chat, which also helped to boost my reputation as an on-line fighter and an experienced roleplayer. Then in 2007, a few young players asked me to teach them how to become better on-line fighters so I wrote "All There Is To Know About Textual Combat", and that really helped contribute a lot to the roleplaying community as a whole. After a while, I had players approaching me on GWing Chat telling me how much they really liked my teachings. Even some of the Oldies from previous generations told me my teachings provided new things for them to learn, you know, so I was really happy to be able to contribute something to the Roleplay Gateway Forums and to have people read my posts.
What is your main reason for being here now?
My main reason? Heheh, I guess it's for the kids, you know? I wanted to show people that you don't necessarily have to be a computer geek to enjoy textbased roleplaying, you know? Anyone can get involved, you don't have to be a good writer. Back when I first started learning about computers, I had no idea how to type and spell correctly. I was a problematic teenager, ya feel me? I wasn't in school, wasn't in college like I am now, I was just a common street thug. But over the years, just through mingling and associating with other players, I started picking up a lot of information and on-line fighting experience which helped me to become a better creative writer and keyboard typist. So my main reason for being here, actually, is for the Noobs who wish to learn more about on-line fighting, and also for the children at home who are facing problems in their lives and feel like they have nobody to relate to. I'm here to tell you that I really have been there and done all that, and there's nothing in life that's big enough to hold you down. I'm all 100% real, and right now I'm living proof that you can do anything you set your mind to. I think a lot of haters are mad that I'm so real in and out of character, but a lot of these younger players look up to that. Plus, you know, a lot of players come to Roleplay Gateway just to write poems and relieve some stress, or perhaps gettaway from the real world for a while. So in that area too, I really try to clique with people and help them talk about their problems, when a lot of other players out there just bottle it up and then later on you see them explode with angry comments, which is what I used to do back when I was younger. I'm here now to help people get over that, and mainly just because I'd like to see more people who enjoy textbased roleplaying and textual combat... Noobs are our future.
Dionysus, will you be in the next Grand Tournament?
Heheh, well, we're not really sure about that one yet. The next Grand Tournament takes place in 2010 from what I've been told, and by that time I will be 26-years-old... So, I don't know, I am getting pretty old for this shit... A lot of my contemporaries like Nonpareil and Victor Kuroji, they already retired from the scene of on-line fighting a couple of years ago so I'm really pushing my age limit here... I mean, I know I could easily participate in GT2010 and probably do really well as far as ranking goes, but nowadays I'm more of a coach than a sparrer. Between the years 1998 and 2008, you know, I've put in enough time to say "Hey, look, I can roleplay". So the whole act of textual combat isn't really a challenge for me any more, I have over a decade of on-line fighting experience. I never really was much of a tournament fighter to begin with, I was always more 1-on-1 with my opponents. I never really fought for ranks or prizes either, I fought more just to prove a point than anything. My generation, and also the RPG sites I came from, were a little bit different from the ones I see now. But just because I don't fight that much any more doesn't mean I don't teach fighting, and there is a good chance I will continue coaching, and possibly join the next Grand Tournament in 2010 if I haven't decided to retire from the RPG world yet.
Do you have any last words for us before you go?
Yeah... It's me haters, hahaha... Yall, dont let anybody hold you down. Dont believe anyone who tells you that you cant do something. Homies, you can do anything you set your mind to. It's time to turn these mountains into stepping stones, and don't let any obstacle stand in your way... Just be real, and put forth 110% of your energy into being successful. Don't let anyone ridicule you for being from the streets, or the hood. As you can see, I represent the ghetto all across the world, and if I can get back on my feet then so can you. Don't ever let anyone make you feel inferior, or less equal just because you have a problem with reading or writing, or just because you live in a poverish neighborhood with a disfunctional family... Fuck them haters, they'll never know your pain, or your struggles, so ignore them and just be real. Don't ever try to impress anyone but yourself, because that's who matters in the long run. Just be real, and keep your head up. If you keep trying, good things will happen for you... I promise, homies, so just be real.
