Disappearing Children ( )

Postby xImxLostxWithoutxYou on Tue Sep 23, 2008 12:57 pm

Here is the OCC thread for anyone interested :: http://www.roleplaygateway.com/disappearing-children-ooc-and-signups-t11140.html and now I'll get started.

Sam sat staring at the ground, Trys had just thrown her back into the small cage that 25 of them shared. The other 25 were kept next door. Shivering, and not from the cold, she managed to move into the back corner. There was an empty look in her eyes, which wasn't any different now. Been the newest member here, she'd had that look in her eyes for a while now, not long after she came and the whole ordeal started, the look appeared. The look of that she was starting to give up on life.

Trys grinned as he looked at all the kids, seeing the fear in thier eyes as he stood there watching them. He kept his eyes on Sam for a while, watching her move back slowly, away from the door. Once happy with the fear he installed into these kids. Closing the door, he made sure the door was locked before walking away back towards the lab were the other scientists were.

"How are the tests coming along?" He asked, starting to pack away some needles and clean up while awaiting an answer.
Lectures have started so can't reply as much!!!

Mae sat in the cage and looked back at Sam, who looked completely terrified. Silently she crawed over and sat next to her, "Are you okay?" She asked placing a hand on Sam's shoulder. She knew what it was like to be one the new kids in the lab. The other kids where to busy being scare theirselves that they never thought to think about the ones who were just kidnapped.

(I'm sorry that it's bloody long... I promise it won't be this long next time >_< )

“You’ve been quite the rebel today, Number 9,” grumbled a man who bore a labcoat. He dragged a boy, quite around seventeen of age, by his collar. “And things like you should know better than to piss me off.” He added, tightening his grip.

Mark didn’t know exactly what the older man had said. His head throbbed and he felt that he could throw up any second now. But still, he wanted to reply. So badly. He wanted to say, “Yeah, well, suck it up you sad-excuse-for-a-scientist!” But he didn’t. Actually, more like he couldn’t. Though his hands and legs were free, he didn’t have the energy to escape and damn it, that damned scientist knew it. His breaths were hard from the tireless experiments that would go on for what seemed years to him.

“Get your ass into your crib, you monkey.”

“… Huh?” Mark managed a reply. He wasn’t paying attention to his surroundings.

In front of him was a large, metal door. The door slid open, upon recognizing the scientist. The door made a low, metallic moan as it revealed the other side of the room—although Mark knew far too well what was in there. Heck, the scientists didn’t have the sense to separate the males and the females.

“Stupid thing,” muttered the scientist. As if out of patience, he kicked the boy squarely on his back, pushing the boy into the room. Mark didn’t actually fall down, but he didlose his balance. He glared at the scientist.

“Do that face the next time I see you, and you’re up for a deadly one,” the man threatened. The metal door closed, restricting any means of going out.

He went for the nearest wall and he plopped down onto the floor with a thud. He rested his back against the cold walls, trying to calm his breaths. Usually, he would sit with the younger or newer ones and, well, help them. He heard the girls cry and the whimpers of the boys younger than him and, damn it all, he wanted to help them. However, in the end, he simply didn’t have the energy to.

Almost an instant later, he fell asleep.

+

“That’s it. That kid is going down,” said Jordan, as he entered the lab, “I’m going to kill him. Slowly, painfully, ingeniously. Indeed, I will. That bloody kid glared at me!”

Nicholas: And are they as big as he is?
Danny: Who?
Nicholas: The mum and the sister?
Danny: Same person.

"Over in that drink bar, they sell a drink that's two parts Calpis and Ginger Ale, and one part MYSTERY LIQUID!!! You wanna' know what it tastes like? Huh!? Hair tonic, that's what!! Is that friggin' crazy or what?!?"

Re: Disappearing Children ( )

Deep in the center of the darkness, against the back wall, Johanna sat. She was curled into a ball, holding her knees tight against her bosum. Her eyes, once white, now were a dull gray-blue as her eyelids sagged. Her face remained expressionless, her red-pink lips pursed together loosely. Her breathing was slow and heavy, as if she had just been crying and was trying to stop. As she did so, her white, bloodstained dress rose up and down, up and down...

She did not look up as the door opened, exposing blinding light, burning out the crepuscular areas and showing her dimly to let in the new kid. She'd seen this happen before, being one of the first ever here- they'd either die from all that happened, or they'd become like she was- so detatched, quiet, serene, that even if they were rescued they might not recover. Certainly she'd be glad to see those whom she considered her parents- but she knew to never get her hopes up because they won't be found- she knew they wouldn't.

A few minutes past. She could tell because her heart beat, at least what she could feel, once every second. Her eyes finally turned to the new kid, and, wincing, she stumbled to her feet. Her left eyes stayed shut as she came nearer to her and Mae. She stood in front of them, her arms crossed.

"So." She began. Her voice was cracked, though retained it's normal pitch that she'd had over the years. "Who are you?"

OOC:: Greenhorn. It's cool. I don't care that its that because its actually a decent post and makes sense so isn't rambling on at all :D My first post sucked because it always does.

Sam jumped when she felt Mae touch her, before wincing in fear. She didn't like been touched. It reminded her of them. She didn't really listen to what Mae had to say. She just continued to stare at the ground, in her head the events that had just happened playing over in her mind. The screaming still loud in her head, her screaming, her begging for them to stop and only more pain to come. She'd begged, but they just continued and each time she'd begged, the more it hurt next time. They had just laughed and finally Sam had stopped.

She watched a boy that looked slightly older to her been thrown in. He looked worse than her, like he'd been having this done for years. Sam had only been here a couple of months in reality, though it was actually starting to feel like years for her to. She looked up as the boy passed out and a girl spoke to her. She registered what the girl had said, but didn't bother replying, just going back to staring at the ground.

---

Trys glanced at Jordan as he entered. "How did things go with your kid? And you don't kill anyone unless I say so, or they just give in. We can't afford to take another kid to replace him yet, not so soon after the last girl." Trys smiled at the thought of her - Sam had been her name, but now she was known as Number 50, the latest kid. "She begged so much...It took her 3 hours to realise that begging wasn't going to help her, or stop me." He laughed.

Johanna realized that the new girl wasn't going to speak. She pulled her long blonde hair back from her face and tossed it behind her head. She started counting on her fingers. She'd woken up at 8 o'clock, and her heart had beat about... approximately 32,400 times, which meant that she'd be called out there in a few minutes at the most.

She sighed and walked back to the back, leaning against the wall. She crossed her arms and legs, and looked towards where she thought the door was, waiting for it to open and her 'name', Number 3, to be called.

Really, nowadays, that was the only time she heard a person speak, other than during the exploitations. She began to wonder, what would they do to her today? And how long would it last? Maybe they'd put that tazer there again...

She shut her eyes, thinking about everything.

Re: Disappearing Children ( )

Adrian lay on the floor, legs pulled up, arms crossed. His arm had begun to hurt again, and his head was pounding. His eyes were shut, but he could hear everything, as if it was slightly amplified. Someone next to him shifted, and let out a low moan. Adrian opened his eyes, sat up and looked to the right.

Whoever had just moaned eluded him, but he could see Mae and the new girl sitting along the back wall. Adrian thought it wasn't quite fair to call the girl 'New Girl'; she'd been here for a while now. He watched Johanna walk over to them, and start talking quietly. As everyone else seemed to be either asleep or in pain, he figured the girls might be the best chance for a conversation he'd get for a while. He pulled himself to his feet, and walked over, carefully treading in spots between heads, limbs and bodies.

Before he got to the girls, Johanna walked back, and Adrian's eyes followed her. He then re-focused on the two girls- something very difficult to do in a dim light with a headache- and continued towards them. "Good morning Mae," he whispered as he got closer. He found a spot he could sit in, and crossed his legs as he sat down. "I hope you are as well as you can be considered to be, considering the situation." Adrian always loved words, his whole family were rather well spoken, and it showed in his speech. He especially loved using words around Mae. To him, she was one of the kindest girls he'd ever met. She'd always been nice to him, always been nice to everyone.

He turned his attention to the latest addition to the lab. "And you," he whispered. "You must be, if I'm not mistaken, Number 50." Adrian continued to focus on this girl, who was staring at the floor. "I am Number 27, also known as Adrian Clarke." He smiled slightly- only slightly, considering the situation- and continued. "Will we, as in, myself and Mae, be honoured with your name?"

Sam was still shaking, her whole body in pain. Watching Johanna walk away, she noticed another lad come over and introduce himself as 'Number 27' otherwise known as Adrian. She noticed him mention that she was 'Number 50'. 50... She was just a number now. Taken and renamed to a number. The 50th kid to be taken, what was the point in introducing her real name if she was just going to be a number now. She wasn't going to be found, she was going to spend the rest of her life here, only to be known as Number 50.

"What's...What's...the point?" She whispered. "What's the point in knowing my name when we're just a number now?"

Sam just went back to staring at the ground, the look still in her eyes, the one showing that she was giving up and the worse part of it was that giving up on things, would probably get her killed. A lot of kids were still fighting for survival and fighting and hoping that they'd see their family and friends again was all that was keeping them alive, but in Sam's case, she'd given up on that hope. In a way, she was just waiting to die now, waiting for the pain to be over.

Mae gave a weak smile at Adrian, "I doing well, considering the situation like you said." Then she turned to the girl, "The scientists call us numbers, but we call each other by names. Besides we won't be here forever, we will get out somehow..." She sad quietly. She looked around at all the people in the cage, some even younger then she was. She sighed and looked back at the girl, "Well if you want to know I'm Mae or as you'll hear the scientists call me, Number Seven."

Jordan muttered under his breath and glared at the various colorful vials that were carefully laid out in the lab. There were green, blue, purple, red… you name it, they have it.

“… That kid,” he started, voice obviously full of anger and fury, “That damned kid spat every single liquid I give him right back at my face! Oh, and he broke a whole box of fragile apparatus!” As if to emphasize, Jordan picked up a cardboard box full of sharp, broken pieces of glass. “And if that wasn’t enough, I can’t get him to stay still enough to examine the chip in his arm! HE IRRITATES ME!

He finished his last sentence with loud bang as his fist hits the lab desk. Then, exhaling deeply, he said, “But I got him back double. No, triple. Give a kid a few rocks to the abdomen and they’ll shut their traps immediately.”

He picked up a pen and twirled around with it, thinking for a while. He glanced at Trys, “I wish mine begged like yours. Indeed, that would be satisfying. I’m sick of that smug one, that Number 9.”

I’ll ‘accidentally’ kill him, thought Jordan. I don't care if we’ll never get replacement. I’ll kill that kid. Slowly.

Trys glanced at Jordan. "She only begs because she's still new. I mean, she's been here for 2 months. Most of them quit begging after the second month, I think she's giving up. She's got that look in her eyes, that one that shows the emptiness inside. I won't be having much more trouble with her. If you can't deal with you're kid, we can swap. I'll take him this afternoon, teach him a thing or two while you hear mine beg. I'm sure you can get her begging for a bit, I don't think she's stopped for good yet." He grinned. "She's still got some fight in her."

---

Sam just looked away from Mae and at the ground, still not giving her or Adrian an answer as she looked at the boy that had previously entered and passed out. She could imagine what he'd been through and how much pain he'd felt just from whatever he'd had to enjured. She took a deep breath and just returned her gaze to the floor.

Jordan Geraud looked at the young scientist before him.

What a brilliant idea!

“That’s wonderful!” Jordan exclaimed, “Only for the afternoon, we’ll switch. I get your charge, you get mine.” He stood up and walked over to a cupboard of drawers. He pulled the ninth drawer, and from it, produced a brown, beat-up folder, the number six written on it with a red marker.

He gave the folder to Trys. “Here’s his file. Everything you need about him is there. I’ve bookmarked the page that has diagrams and detailed explanation of the required experiments on the monkey. Do follow the analysis carefully.” He said with a smirk, “Lest we won’t achieve our goal.”

+

Mark woke up from what seemed like the shortest nap ever. And it was. His mind couldn’t sleep for any longer than an hour lately, and this one was definitely nothing more than ten minutes. He only grew wearier each day. But that didn’t matter. What mattered was to keep the young ‘uns sane, and escape together one way or another.

He looked around in a daze. Unable to comprehend. Unable to understand.

It lasted for only a second, however, as his mind snapped back into reality. Looking around, everyone was rather quiet… either quietly sleeping, or quietly crying. To Mark, it was a hurtful sight. These kids were probably around his little brother's age, perhaps younger. And he definitely couldn't imagine his little brother in such a situation.

At one corner, a group of kids caught his eye. They gathered around a girl unfamiliar to Mark. He knew the boy, his name was Adrian… Adrian something. He couldn’t remember. But he remembered the day the boy introduced himself to Mark. It was short and only once, so it was fine if the other boy didn’t know who Mark was.

The other one, a girl with reddish-brown hair, he didn’t know much about her. All he knew was that, the first time he was thrown here, she was already there. He heard the scientists call her a “Number Seven”, but he knew better than to bring up such “names” into conversation.

Lastly, there was the unfamiliar one, the blonde girl, whose eyes were a turquoise. He didn't recognize her. Indeed, she was probably new.

He approached them and promptly sat down, joining the ‘group’. His gaze traveled from the Adrian boy, to the dark-haired girl, and then finally to the blonde one. “Good mornin’, guys,” he greeted them, putting up a smile. “Sucks to be here, huh? Yep. Anyway, I don’t think we’ve had a chance to get to know each other. So, let’s start! I’ll go first.”

He straightened his back (Ooh, a bit sore…, Mark groaned) and took a deep breath. “I’m Marcus, seventeen years-old. I’d prefer to go by the name “Mark” though. It sounds friendlier,” he said. “And I’m done. Now one of you guys can go next.”

He turned his gaze to another girl, whose hair was also a blonde, and wore a simple white dress that fell to her knees. She seemed far younger than Mark, perhaps only fourteen. “You too. C’mere and talk with us!”

Trys looked at Jordan and nodded. "Sure, for the afternoon. I'll teach your boy a thing or two and you can make my girl beg all you want." He grinned. "I love hearing her beg, so will you."

He took the folder and then handed over the girls, which had on in red marker the number 50. "I haven't really started much with her, so just do what you want, just don't wreck her too much, I do want her back..." He commented.

---

Sam watched the boy approach, later finding out that he was Marcus, but prefered Mark. She didn't particularly care right now though. Why should she? There was no point. They were all numbers now, not names. They didn't have a life or a meaning or anything like that anymore, just a purpose of fulfilling sick desires.

Her thoughts once again drifted to Braiden and then home. She wondered if they were still looking for her, or if everyone had finally given up. They should just give up, Sam thought. They weren't going to be found. They never were. They were going to die here. That was the reality of the situation.

Sam had been prepared to ignore the conversation, that was until Mark had started talking. He sounded chirpy, full of life. Frowning, how could he be like that in this situation. It sounded like he didn't care he was here, almost as if he was happy to be here. Sam just looked away and glanced at the ground even harder, the empty look in her eyes not leaving.

"I'm number 50. That's all anyone needs to know now. That's all I am, a number." She muttered.

"It's a pleasure to see you Mark, though seeing you is quite a lie." Adrian was currently rubbing his eyes, which were pulsing from his growing headache. He stopped rubbing, and looked up at Mark. The face was familiar, though not one he was fond of. This was, quite simply, due to the lack of trust Adrian had in people he didn't know.

Adrian heard number 50 muttering. He touched her arm, and smiled again, still only slightly. "Don't think like that, that'll only make you feel worse." He sat back, and looked around. "I'm sure we're all aware that I am Adrian James Clarke, and that I'm fifteen years old, from Three Lakes. I am also perfectly happy to go by the name of Adrian, Ad or Adie. I prefer Adrian or Ad, though." He uncrossed his legs and rubbed a bruise on his knee, thinking about number 50. He put his hand back on her arm, and shuffled closer. "Please tell us your name, chick. I bet you've got a wonderfully pretty name, to match a wonderfully pretty person."

She moved her arm when he touched it a second time, moving closer to Mark without meaning to. She'd have prefered to move away from everyone, but she was still in a considerable amount of pain.

"You all act as if you like been here." Sam simply commented, still quitely, not liking how they were acting in this situation. How could they be so calm and cool about all of this, about been tortured.

"I'm not chick either." She added. "I'm just number 50. I have no name anymore. There is no point in having a name any more when all we are is numbers now. And all that's going to happen to us is that we'll get tortured until we're killed." She finished, not caring that the younger kids heard and were scared now.

Sam use to be such a nice person and it could be seen. It could also be seen how much pain she was in, not just physical pain, but emotional and mental to. It had really affected Sam's personality, and now, she just saw everything as cold and heartless, her look empty.

Adrian felt the girl move closer to him, before she started talking. Adrian listened, continuing to look at her. He could see where she was coming from.

"I only called you chick because I feel simply awful calling another kid by a number." Adrian could tell this girl was hurting on the inside. "We only act like this because if you give up hope, you give up life." He put his arm around her, not noticing her discomfort. "None of us like it here; there's nothing I wouldn't do to see my brothers again. But it does seem that we're stuck here for the time being, you just have to stay strong." He squeezed her slightly. "And if you ive up on names, you're seeing it how the scientists want you to see it. Keeping your name; it's a small-scale rebellion." Adrian nodded. "So, please. Don't make me call you number 50. Else I might-" He paused for dramatic effect. "I might- just- cry!" With this, Adrian burst into quiet, theatrical tears.

Sam looked at Adrian, seeing the tears brought a horrified look to her face, her original personality coming though. She hated making people cry. She'd never made a person cry before and now she felt nasty and horrible about herself. She just sat there silently, looking from Adrian to Mark desperately, trying to figure out what she should do. Finally, her gaze went back to the floor but she still didn't say her name. She still didn't want to let everyone know her name. She didn't feel like that person any more and she certainly wasn'y feeling pretty.

Adrian looked up, and saw the horrified look on number 50's face. "Hey, hey! I'm sorry! I'm not crying, you've not upset me!" He glanced around, and put his arm back around her. "I am so sorry. I was only joking, y'know, like, in a joke?" Adrian had never been good at explaining himself. "Please look at me," he said, his voice getting quieter. He put his hand beneath number 50's chin and gently pulled her face up. "I am really sorry, chick. For everything."

Adrian couldn't help but feel bad for the girl. She'd been here for a while, and he'd never said hello. He understood what it was like to lose a lot, but still his heart bled for the girl. "I don't want to make you feel any worse than you already do. I'll go away, if you like." He sat back, and looked at number 50. "Just, please talk to someone. It might not be much, but I promise it'll help you. I promise."

Mark looked from Adrian to… “the girl”. He hadn’t a chance to say a word edgewise. Had it been in a better situation, it would have been funny — like a lover’s quarrel(an unorthodox one, perhaps) between the girl and Adrian. However, it wasn’t in a “better situation” nor was it supposed to be funny.

Mark sighed. “Well, listen here, my new little friend,” he said to the girl, feeling that kind words aren’t going to open her up, or perhaps he was just getting tired from the lack of sleep. “It’s alright if you feel that your name would mean nothing. No pressure. Woul
