Dysfunctional Family

Meet the Moore family. Well, I'm sure you already know them. Their father, Joe Moore is a buisness tycoon and the owner of the large chain of hotels, The Moore. We see them in magazines, on the TV and in the news. Sometimes they'll be fighting, getting in trouble with the police and maybe even getting along. New reports of family feuds aren't surprising when dealing with this growing family. Papparazzi are constantly swarming The Moore Hotel in New York City. It's where the family lives and plays. We see their lives from the outside, but what's it like to be in the family?

--x--

The day had just started but Joe was already in the back seat of a limo as it pulled away from one of his many hotels. His fingers attacked the keys of his Blackberry as he assured his clients that he would be at the meeting in only a matter of minutes. Shoving the phone into his suit pocket, Joe looked out the window. It was only nine in the morning in the beginning of July and it was already crowded on the streets of New York. It wasn't too much of a surprise though, considering it was a beautiful day. He wasn't really focused on the nice weather though, and once the limo pulled up infront of one of the Trump Towers, Joe had hopped out and was rushing inside of the building.

"WHERE IS IT!" Jake growled as he stormed through the penthouse.Jake had lost his best t-shirt and he saw one of the girls steal it.Jake hated being the only 'sane' boy in the family,In his opnion.Jake was usually picked on.But he fought back, manily 9 out of 10 times with his fists.Jake continued to search and then saw the girls rooms.Hoping they were out,Jake creeped towards thier doors and tried to open them slowly.Making sure no one was inside.Jake slowly scanned there rooms and found nothing.Jake was now really angry. He stormed up to the top of the the penthouse balcony and looked over New York.He knew it was Saturday and yet so many people were working for the kids it was a holiday. But for parents it was just anothr rush hour.Jake sighed as he had now lost his best top.

Curtis Allendale walked down the line of bellhops with a look of dissatisfaction. His brows were knit together and his hands were clasped behind his back. "Really, gentlemen, what is our policy here? Ten seconds out of the door and is nine seconds in our care!" he recited. "None of our guests should even have to lift their own bags let alone carry them upstairs. Understood?" A murmur of 'yes sir' and 'sorry sir' filled the air.

"Daddy!" Curtis turned and smiled as he saw his youngest daughter Elise running toward him. She jumped into his arms and Curtis swung her around.

"Honey, what are you doing here?" he asked as he set her on her feet again.

"It's our week to be with you, did you forget again?" Justine, his eldest daughter said with a none to pleasant look on her face. She approached him at a much slower pace with two bags slung over her shoulder. Immediately three bellhops rushed forward, but Curtis held up a hand.

"I got it boys, go man the door will you?" the three young men looked disappointed but followed orders. "Justine, good to see you again. And no I didn't forget...I mean I did, but only for a moment. Come on. I'll take you upstairs." He grabbed one of the bags from her and ushered them toward the elevators. Elise grabbed her father's arm and began rambling on about her summer vacation so far.

Kylie, the youngest of the Moore's, had just gotten out of the shower when she heard someone in her room. She quickly pulled on her light blue tanktop and short denim shorts before rushing out and into her bedroom. No one was in there but a bit of a mess had been left, meaning that Jake was probably the one who was in there. Kylie normally was someone who stole his stuff, but not because she liked it or anything. She just liked causing the problems.

Rolling her eyes, Kylie began to brush her blonde hair out before quickly straightening it. Once she was finally ready, Kylie walked out of her bedroom and turned into the kitchen. She saw that no one was there and quickly left, searching for her siblings. "Jake?! Damien?!" She called, looking for her brothers first.

Jolene walked through the penthouse. She could hear Jake stomping around and she knew exactly what he was looking for. He wouldn't find that shirt in her bedroom, because, of course, she was wearing it. She had seen a design in a magazine just the other day, and to really piss off her little brother, she had decided to use his shirts. His favorite one, she had chosen against cutting up, but the other three she stole... Well, they were in her crafts room. The shirt looked better on her anyway.

Pulling the shirt down to cover her stomach, the blonde walked through the house. She was wearing a pair of jeans she had sewn black ribbons in along the legs to look better than they originally were, and a pair of black high heels. She was sure that she would need to stamp on her brother's foot when he saw her. She had to laugh at the thought.

A seductive smile resided on Nicole's lips as she walked through the hotel's lobby. Her lucious blonde hair bounced against her tanned shoulders and her long legs were moving more quickly than normal. She walked over to the elevators, just to find Curtis, the hotel's manager inside of one with his two daughters. Nicole had seen them before when they came and she knew that they were friends with her fiance, Joe's, kids.

"Hey Curtis," She said with a bright smile, ignoring his kids as she stepped inside the elevator and quickly slid her room key into the penthouse slot. Nicole was on her way up to the penthouse to get Kylie, and whatever one of the other Moore's were up there. It was a crowded day in the city which meant more people to take her picture. Nicole was looking for good press today and so she wanted to make it seem like she was going to be a great mom. Bringing them shopping couldn't be too bad.

((sry missed your post, here's the edit))

"Good afternoon Miss Kalvin. Uh, these are my two girls, Justine and Elise. Perhaps you've seen them before." The two girls smiled politely to the woman. Neither of them really knew her personally, but she was a rather intimidating beauty. "If you'll excuse us, Miss Kalvin," Curtis said as the elevator stopped on one of the top floors.

"It was nice meeting you," Elle called back to the woman.

"Here we are," Curtis said opening the door for his daughters. Elise ran in first followed by Jess who glared at her father as she passed. "And don't look so sour, this week is going to be fun!"

"Two weeks," Jess corrected. Curtis furrowed his brow. "Mom's going on the cruise from work? We're staying two weeks, or did you forget?" she asked sarcastically.

"No no, I remember, I wrote it down...somewhere." he set the bags in the living room of the penthouse that Jess and Elle shared when they visited. Their father's suit was the room on the floor above theirs. "Anyway, I haven't had time to go grocery shopping, you guys are ok with ordering room service!"

"Yeah!" Elle shouted as she jumped on the bed. Justine rolled her eyes and moved into the bedroom. There was a knock on the door so Elise jumped off the couch to get it. When she opened the door, there was a loud bark followed by a scream. Curtis ran out of the kitchen, his eyes widening. "Rufus!" Elise giggled as the large Saint Bernard licked her face. "Get off!"

"You brought the dog?" Curtis asked in shock. The bellboy standing at the door was looking around inside hoping to catch a glimpse of the manager's eldest daughter. "Robert, don't you have somewhere to be?" The bellhop looked startled before running off.

"Dad, can I take Rufus to the park?" Elle asked as she finally managed to climb out from underneath the massive dog.

"Only if your sister takes you. I don't want you going alone. Go ask nicely," Curtis said as he shut the door.

"Jess!" Ell screamed. "Dad told me to tell you that you're taking me to central park!" Curtis chuckled and shook his head.

"Fine let's go," Jess said coming out of the room. She'd changed into a pair of low ride dark denim jeans and a t-shirt with gold writing that stopped just below her belly button.

"Here," Curtis said pulling out his wallet. "You'll need some money in case you two girls want drinks or hotdogs or something."

"Score!" Elise said as she took the bill. Curtis extended one to Justine but she bypassed him as she slung her bag over her shoulder.

"Mom gave us money," she said as she opened the door and Elle was pulled out by Rufus.

"Hey," Curtis said drawing Justine's attention back. "I'm trying." Justine looked sad for a moment before giving him a soft smile.

"Come on Elle," Jess said as she pushed the button for the elevator.

Kylie spun around when she heard loud footsteps. Jolene was standing there, wearing a shirt that was clearly Jake's. She eyed her outfit for a moment, before looking up at her. "You know, you look like white trash," Kylie shot at her, for really no reason. The small comments like that that Kylie always seemed to say weren't really mean compared to some of her other insults, but she liked setting her siblings off. Jolene always was hard to get pissed off but Kylie got her angry every once in a while.

"Where's dad?" She asked, combing through her blonde hair with her fingers. Kylie knew very well where her dad was. Working. He always seemed to be working but she always hoped that one day he'd take a break and just stay home. It never did seem to happen though.

Jolene glared at her little sister, her blue eyes showing nothing more than a mild annoyance. "When, exactly, was the last time you saw white trash?" She asked, stopping to stand in front of her. She knew how her sister was. As the oldest of the siblings, it seemed that she had to deal with the little problems with Kylie most, because their father was always gone.

She was sure that was one of the reasons that siblings acted out. They wanted Joe's attention, and the best way to get it was to get in trouble. Jolene (Or Jo after her father) sure messed up to get his attention. Well, at first, after a while it just became fun for her. "I don't know where Dad is, Kylie." She said with a sigh. "Somewhere working. You know that. I think I heard that Nicole is on her way to get you. So I'm on my way out. no way I'm going back out with her." She informed her sister, looking at the front door of the penthouse.

Jake stormed back form the balcony and then growled as Jolene came into view with his t-shirt on.Jake screamed out and ran at her and jumped on top of her, pulling her to the ground and then began to pull her nice blonde hair."HOW DARE YOU!" Jake screamed as he reached out for the table and got a pair of scissors and then came back to Jolene whom by now he had pinned. "Say goodbye pretty hair!" Jake grabbed a large chunk of her hair and cit it off smiling as he held the hir in his hand he threw it up in the air and growled at Jolene again "GIVE IT BACK!"

Gloria had managed to sleep through Jakes rummage through her room and was entirely annoyed at the mess he'd left. She pulled on her black Avenged Sevenfold tube top, her black skirt, blue and black striped knee high socks, calf height boots and elbow length fishnet armwarmers. She dried and fixed in her blue lip ring before giving a smile and fxing her make-up and heading out of the room, and following the sound of Jake shouting. When he came into veiw she ran over and dragged him off of Jolene, slepping himsharply upside the head and grabbing the scissors of him. "CALM DOWN!! IT'S JUST A SHIRT!!" She screamed at him, she hated her brother because of his rediculouse temperment and his overreaction to practically evenything.

Nicole waved goodbye to Curtis and his daughters before waiting for the elevator to soar upwards. The elevator brought her straight into the penthouse livingroom and she smiled as she stepped out, flattening out the botton of her Dior sundress. She pushed her blonde hair behind her shoulders and advanced forward into the house. The kids, atleast most of them, seemed to be awake because of the screaming that already seemed to be taking place.

Grabbing Kylie by the hand, Nicole tugged her into the livingroom. "Go get ready, hun, we're going shopping." Nicole wasn't going to bother making the other ones. Gloria and Jolene were nineteen so they didn't have to listen to her and she didn't want to be seen with Jake. Kylie would have to listen to her though, like all of them, because if they didn't, Nicole could have them sent away in a second.

"HEY!!!"

The booming voice came from down the hall, and Damien appeared from a doorway in the hall. He was dressed in loose blue plaid shorts and a black tanktop. Running quickly down the long corridor, he stopped just short of running over Jake and grabbed him by the arm. Spinning him around, Damien grabbed his other arm and set him square with the older brother. "Calm down, Jake. It's a shirt. She'll give it back." He kept hold of Jake, and looked over to the girls.

"Anyone bleeding? How's the hair, Jolene?" He saw the strands of it laying on the floor, metally flinching. Ooh...she was gonna be pissed. Looking down to Jake, Damien shook his head with the beginnings of a small smile. He sometimes enjoyed messing with his sisters, but Jake was gonna catch hell from Jolene. He almost felt...sorry for his little brother.

Kylie took a step backwards as Jake lunged himself onto Jolene. She didn't have time to answer Jolene, because now her older sister was being attacked by her brother. Jake did scare Kylie, atleast most of the time and she kept from bothering him unless she was truly bored. Snippets of hair fell to the sparkling floors and Kylie had to bite her lip to keep from laughing. This was going to be funny.

But just like always, Nicole showed up to ruin it. Her soon to be step-mother was only two or three years older than Gloria and Jolene so Kylie always hated having to listen to Nicole over them. She knew she had to listen to her though. If she didn't, Nicole would go crying to her father and they'd all be sent off to boarding school or something.

Kylie didn't want to go shopping with her though. She wanted to stay and watch her siblings fight. Pulling her hand away from Nicole's, Kylie dashed back into the hallway and waited to see Jolene's reaction. Meanwhile, she watched Damien and Jake. "That shirt is white trashy anyways, just like Gloria's. I don't see why you care so much about it," She said, leaning against the wall.

Gloria glared at her little sister,"At least I have some fashion taste unlike you little girl." She smirked as the lyrics suddenly popped into her head. She rolled her eyes and walked out of the room, the others could handle it and anyway she had an appointment with a group of very sexy boys to keep. She passed Nicole, a small glace being the only acknowledgement she gave her future step mother before she headed to the elevator and pressed the button before stepping in and beging taken down to the lobby.

"Rufus!" Elle called as the dog took off the moment the elevator stopped. The leash was ripped from her hand and Elise went running after him. "Stop that dog!" Elise yelled and two bellhops quickly ran for him. A luggage cart was knocked over and a large woman wearing a fur coat screamed and hid behind her pole-skinny husband.

Justine left the elevator at a leisurely pace clearly un-phased by the commotion her younger sister's dog was causing. It would have been a bigger deal if this was the first time it happened. By now the lobby officials should be equipped to handle Rufus.

She walked toward the bar, but something at the front desk caught her eye. A hiring sign. She grabbed it from the announcement board and read it over. It appeared the Hotel was looking to hire a summer lifeguard.

"Excuse me," she asked the concierge. "Are you still looking to fill this position?" The man took the paper, looked up at Justine, and set the paper down.

"Do you come recommended?" he asked in a snotty high pitched tone. Justine furrowed her brow.

"My dad is your boss?" she stated. The man looked confused before grabbing a bellhop. He whispered something to him and the bellhop nodded.

"Well, it looks like the position has just been filled," he said with a well practiced brown nosing smile. "You start tomorrow!"

"Great!" Justine said smiling. She turned around to see the progress Elle was making with Rufus, but saw that the dog still had the upper hand. Apparently, Rufus thought the large woman in the fur coat was a play mate because he'd wrestled the coat off her and was running around the lobby with it in his mouth.

Nicole rolled her eyes as Kylie walked away from her. If she didn't want to be easy and just come, than Nicole would just make her. Walking into the young girl's room, Nicole grabbed a pair of flip-flops from her closet and walked back out. She walked into the hallway where the other kids seemed to be arguing or fighting or something. Nicole didn't really care. She didn't want to get involved with them unless she needed something from them.

"Come on Kylie," She said, grabbing the girl by her arm and pulling her into the elevator. Once the door was closed, Nicole dropped the flip-flops on the floor for her and smiled. "Your dad wanted us to bond more. Come on, we'll get Gloria to come too." Of course this wasn't exactly true. Joe did want Nicole to be liked among the kids but he could really care less if they wanted her as a mom or not. That's what Nicole loved about Joe.

The elevator doors opened, and Nicole latched her hand around Kylie's smaller one. She walked into the lobby with her and raised an eyebrow as she spotted two bellhops wrestling with a dog. "No dogs are allowed at this hotel," Nicole said with an icy tone as she passed Justine and another worker. She knew that there were exceptions for the owners and higher workers but Nicole would get that to change.

She pulled Kylie over to Gloria before pulling out her cellphone. It had just began to vibrate and a text showed up from one of her friends. They wanted to all meet for lunch in twenty minutes. A smile spread over Nicole's face and she pushed Kylie towards Gloria. "Your father says you get to baby-sit today. She's too young to be left all alone with those idiotic kids you're related to. Have fun!"

Ryan ran a hand through his hair, trying to make it appear at least somewhat presentable to the standards of the Moore Hotel. He mumbled something about having to work a day shift as he parked his car in the designated employee lot around the back of the hotel and made his way through the back door. Adjusting the black suit that all security guards were instructed to wear, he fiddled with the small white name tag pinned to the side of his chest with the name: O'Connor on it. Working here may have been the only time Ryan ever looked the least bit professional in his life.

He nodded a small hello to the kitchen staff as he walked through, and then again to the front desk worker as he made his way to a small storage room that held a field of walkie-talkies designated for each guard to carry. He grabbed the used black one with his number on it, clipping it to the rim of his pants as if it was some sort of daily ritual. He left the small unit and made his way to the main entrance of the place, absolutely sure it was going to be nothing but a boring afternoon of standing around. In his three years of working at the hotel, there had never really been any use for a security guard. Often, Ryan was recruited as a bell-boy to carry elderly women's bags up the flights of stairs to the penthouse, simply because the crime rate within the community was too low for anyone to bother causing trouble at a large hotel chain.

Justine grew tired of watching Elise run round the lobby trying to catch Rufus. She had to stifle a laugh as the woman she'd met in the elevator came through like she owned the place barking louder than the dog that animals weren't allowed. Actually they are for penthouse owners, she thought to herself. She would have said it too, but the way her father had treated her earlier, she assumed the Nicole woman was important and she didn't want to get him in trouble.

"Elle, will you catch the dumb dog already?" Justine sighed as she crossed her arms. Elise ran past Justine and stopped to glare at her.

"Duh, I'm trying," she said as though talking to a four year old, "why don't you stop standing there and help me?" Justine rolled her eyes, placed her pinkie and pointer finger in her mouth and whistled. Rufus stopped running in circles around a bellhop and ran over to Justine. "Good boy," she said kneeling and stroking his head. He panted and licked her hand, dropping the fur coat from his mouth.

"Uh...here you go," Elle said handing the plump woman her coat back. It was soaked with drool. The woman huffed, grabbed the coat and stormed off. Elise shrugged it off and grabbed Rufus' leash. "Ok, let's go!"

"Thanks guys," Justine said to the bellhops who were sweaty and breathless. They waved politely as Justine and Elle headed for the front door.

Ryan continued to fiddle with his jacket, straightening it a bit. Even after years of wearing it, he was never able to get comfortable in it. Opening the door for a middle-aged woman who had come into the hotel with no bags; just a purse he was sure cost more than his house, Ryan gave her a charming smile and nod. He'd found that holding the door for women like this ended up giving him more money in tips than he'd ever make on his salary alone. And the bellhops never argued with him about it. They were too busy taking the elevator to and from the penthouse.

"Thank you, ma'am. You have a lovely stay here." Ryan gave the woman an overly sweet smile as she slipped a 10-dollar bill into his hand. Watching her walk away, he shook his head with a quiet laugh to himself, pocketing the bill she handed him. If nothing else, Ryan had learned to be a great actor by sucking up to the wealthy people who frequented the hotel.

He heard footsteps coming toward the front door and turned slightly to see who it was. The manager's daughters. He'd seen them several times before, but not very often -- he didn't know the whole family story, but he knew Mr. Allendale was divorced. Ryan only assumed he got custody of his girls a few times a month. He'd never really spoken to either of them, other than a small 'hello' or 'how are you today, miss?' Again, the acting came in handy. He'd always found the older girl extremely attractive, but always immediately laughed it off for a multitude of reasons; she seemed far too clean cut to ever like anyone like him, she was too young, and he knew her father would fire him on the spot if anything happened between them.

So, the acting continued. "Hi there, ladies. Beautiful day to walk the dog, eh?" Ryan smiled, kneeling down slightly as they came forward to scratch the large dog's head.
