End Of Darkness (Roleplayer Recruitment) ( )

Postby ShadowWake on Tue Sep 16, 2008 1:17 pm

In the beginning, there was the Light. Both everything and nothing, it passed into being at first as a trickle and then as a gush and then finally a roar, of spirit and of substance – fire and water, earth and sky – writing the history of time.

We were there when the world began…we saw the birth of everything tangible – of everything that was real in the sense of the word – and we rejoiced, celebrating an end to our eternal despair and loneliness.

But that was not how it was meant to be. The Light – whose purity had blinded our naive, hopeful eyes – brought with it death, pain, suffering, greed…forcing life to turn in on itself, destroying the world and the creatures upon it in a blaze of hate, sadness and anger.

And for a while then, there was the Darkness. It shrouded the world, intangible and ubiquitous, shielding our eyes from everything that we’d known and loved. For the first time in our history of being, we were blind. Blind to the knowledge we had previously taken for granted. As time passed, our omnipotence faded and we became lost – scared and confused among the black heavens in which we had lived our whole existence – suddenly uncertain of our previously defined future.

And so we waited. Some of us left, retreating to the farthest reaches in the hope to find something more. Some of us died, letting their misery and hopelessness claim their hearts and souls, and the great star-eagles grew fat upon their corpses. But the rest of us stayed, that faint glimmer of hope left just enough to sustain us as we dreamt of a time when our nightmare would end.

We were not wrong.

Ok, dudes and dudettes. The concept I'm trying to go with is an almost fantasy/futuristic theme with a few original ideas.

The world which the 'Darkness' has shrouded is known as Nanurriel and the beings narrating are called the Nemhe. They are a previously immortal species living in the Nothing, forced to have limited lives due to the 'Darkness' preventing their omnipotence (almost like a God figure becoming mortal). The 'Light' is represented by a woman called Illianora who wanders Nanurriel in search of those willing to help her regain the world for the Nemhe. The 'Darkness' is represented by Illianora's twin, Ikarus, who reigns on Nanurriel, manipulating the darkness for his own ends.

The last hope for the Nemhe is a small group of them who have developed the ability to create corporeal forms; these Nemhe do not know the nature of their true form but see themselves as the mortals they live with. These few need to travel the world - each with a respective power - to remove the 'Darkness' and thus restore the 'Light', helping their species - and the mortals - to survive.

Ok, so your profile would go as follows:

Name: [obvious]
Apparent Age: [Nemhe are immortal so actual age is insignificant]
Corporeal Form: [i.e. elf, human, faery, nymph, centaur, sentient animal (note: not a shifter)]
Appearence: [please no pictures: your description shows your writing skills off]
Personality: [self-explanatory]
Nanurriel History: [your life so far on Nanurriel]
Weapons/Magic: [to be fair, I'm only allowing one branch of magic for each character; weapons can be as many as necessary, but be realistic: your character has to carry it with them all the time]

I'll play Ikarus and Illianora (I'll post a profile a bit later) and if this gets enough interest, we'll start asap! :D

Wow... I just pictured that intro in my head and dear god was it amazing.

Name: Siphel

Apparent Age: 22

Corporeal Form: Avian [No beak/claws]

Appearance: Standing at a height of about six feet, two inches, Siphel is built like a marble sculpture. With a tall and capable body leanly assembled, his detailed muscle structure is firm yet sticks fairly close to the bone. In short, he is an eye-pleaser. Light arms, tightly packed abs and long legs made for running make up most of his features. Hair cut short to spare his vision from the untidy layers of strands, all but a small area to the right remains uncut. Ocean blue tied into a small tail above his ears, the thin locks run gently down to embrace the skin on his neck which hold a light peach hue.

But when talking about skin, one can't fail to see the numerous scars that mar his warm flesh. All over his body, nameless cuts mark his time wandering the lands of darkness alone. Besides the scars left over when his wings had left, most of his wounds are self inflicted to signify the passing of time. With eyes distinctly squinted like a fox, they shine as if made of black diamonds glimmering in the faintest of light. Joined together by a long yet subtle nose above small delicate lips, his portrait of a face is painted onto a somewhat triangulated head.

Personality: Siphel has always lived his life in question. Walking the plains with no sense of right or wrong, he commits actions based on his inner most instinct to live. Though not necessarily carefree in a sense, he can be described as rather unpredictable at times. With no voice inside his head to guide the way, Siphel is gullible and easy to trust others regardless if their strangers or not. Sometimes confused as weak minded because of this, he is anything but that. Once he has found his resolve to initiate his actions then he will stop at nothing to fulfill them, be it good or evil.

Nanurriel History: Remembering nothing of his birth, the faintest memory Siphel can recall is falling down from high up in the clouds as the sun grazed his eyes with its rich golden glow. Awakening as he tore through the air with speeds so great, feathers that he had never seen before fluttered beside him as hard winds blew strongly from below. Like a rock, he began to fall aimlessly.

Save the darkness that engulfed him shortly afterwards, those are the only real memories he can recall each and everyday as he wanders the lands of Nanurriel with no signs to help him guide the way towards the light he so desperately wanted to see again.

Marking each day that passes with a sharp stone drawn deep into his skin, Siphel sees another day as another scar to signify his days alone.

Weapons/Magic: Siphel holds the element of wind at his disposal. Able to control its speed and direction, he can amass great storms or simple breezes to strike his foes dead. Capable of making an immaterial blade of out wind, he can be a deadly force should one anger him. If it has anything to do with wind, Siphel will most likely be able to manipulate it to fit his needs or desires.

Thanks! :) It was very cinematic when I pictured it in my head, so hopefully you got that version too, lol. Brilliant profile; I'll wait a few more days for others to join and then we'll get started regardless.

Re: End Of Darkness (Roleplayer Recruitment) ( )

Postby Greenhorn on Thu Sep 18, 2008 2:46 am

This looks mighty interesting. I'm in.
So... the story is basically a Goddess searching for heroes on the mortal world, right? I'll change any info you need changed :)

Name: Marcus Jeth
Apparent Age: 17
Corporeal Form: Human

Appearence: A short boy for his age, with the tip of his head only reaching 5"2'. His hair, short and just decently kept, is the darkest shade of black, and his eyes, the most brilliant the color gray can get. His body, although small, is leanly built.

Personality: Deep down in his heart, he knows that he is not exactly the bravest person. He would have the urge to run whenever there is danger--and, most of time, he would give in to the urge and flee. When things go bad, he would stand his ground and fight his way out... and THEN flee. All in all, he's a mellow, agreeable sort of person. Although agreeable, he refuses to take sides, preferring to listen to both sides and then form his own conclusion. Last but not least, he is afraid of heights. Terribly.

Nanurriel History: He was found unconscious near a village with no memories to lose. A villager found him and, from thereon, he had lived most of his life in a small village. He lived with a small family, who took care of him for a long four years.

It was peaceful, happy life. Until he was kicked out of the village for accidentally releasing an earthquake that destroyed half of the village. Back then, he was unable to control his magic well, and he is still unable to.

With a tearful farewell from his adoptive family and glares from the villagers, he left.

Weapons/Magic: He has the ability to manipulate earth. Be it a deathly, sharp spear made of stone or a powerful earthquake. However, he rarely uses this ability. This is due to the fact that he is unable to control his power. He is fairly decent fighting with his fists, but he knows he can't last forever just by punching things to submission, or by running away. Eventually, he starts to take his earth ability seriously.

Can't say I'm hundred percent satisfied, but there you have it. :) I'll gladly edit parts that you, the creator of this RP, think needs improvement.

Nicholas: And are they as big as he is?
Danny: Who?
Nicholas: The mum and the sister?
Danny: Same person.

That's great, Greenhorn. Apart from possibly adding his eye colour (I find it makes a good reference for when characters talk to one another), I have no further improvements. And don't worry, Romeo: we'll start as soon as I have one more character. :D

Name: Alzer Schwarzstern
Apparent Age: 20
Corporeal Form: Elf
Appearence: Alzer is about 6 feet tall , has long Silver hair, pale almost white skin, and Green eyes. His Left eye was lost in a fight so it is covered with a eyepatch and he has a scar going from his forehead though the lost eye and down his cheek.
He wears Black and red Elven chain mail and a cloak that is black on the outside red on the inside
Personality: He normaly is a loner and avoids others, but if he makes a friend he will never betray them. He is also known to have a bad and quick temper
Nanurriel History: when he felt his powers fading he went to hide with the race he favored the most: the elves. From that time on he has lived as an elf and learned their ways
Weapons/Magic: Alzer is able to summon and use fire at will, but if he goes into a rage he is a danger to friend and foe as he loses control of his power. He uses two silver Scimitars for close range and an elven made longbow for ranged attacks

Re: End Of Darkness (Roleplayer Recruitment) ( )

Postby Marshmellow on Thu Sep 18, 2008 6:54 pm

Oh, I'd like to do this one...!

Name: Ius, Sage of the Wood

Apparent Age: Decidedly old. Quite old.

Corporeal Form: Fox. Non-humanoid, of course.

Appearance:
The Sage is not an ordinary fox by any definition of the word. Unless you consider 'ordinary' to be 'ageless magical fox-being,' of course. Those people tend to be in the minority, however.
The Sage Ius could conceivably be mistaken for an 'ordinary' fox at first glance. If one took more than a passing glance, however, one might notice that this fox is quite a bit older than your average fox. His fur is silver, obviously due to age rather than phenotype, with the barest hint of reddish-orange at the very tip of his tail. Bits of that fur are missing here and there where it simply could not hold on for another decade or so. His eyes are keen and aware, the eyes of a sentient mind, so very unlike the eyes of an animal...

Personality:
Death is inevitable, but it need not be so prompt.
Ius' life revolves around postponing death. Fortunately for others, that extends to others' deaths as well as his own. The Sage's magic is the healing touch, a magic he keeps locked away at the center of the deadly Wood, where even the bravest souls tread with care. Poisons of every sort line the paths, poisons that he himself planted to deter those that would seek his aid. Those that survive the trek to his home, nothing more than a hole in the earth to the naked eye but beneath that facade a comfortable apartment, are rewarded the chance to meet the Sage and, if he takes pity on you, perhaps antidotes, healing spells, and the like. Those that return, return stronger than ever. But be warned, those that cross him will find their bread turned to poison and their wine to purest death.

Nanurriel History:
Legends of the Sage of the Wood date back hundreds of years, perhaps farther. As far as anyone that lives around the Wood knows, he has been part of that forest as long as the oldest of trees, and is as much an integral part of it. A popular myth is that of the hero Virtus, who braved the Wood to request an antidote to cure the cursed king. It's merely a myth, of course.
Mind you, outside the surrounding towns and villages, Ius is probably not terribly well-known.

Weapons/Magic:
Obviously, Ius doesn't use weapons. For two reasons: 1. he's OLD, and 2. he's a FOX. He does do magic, though, as mentioned above. Specifically, his magic relates to chemicals, potions, salves, and, to an extent, biology. Given the proper ingredients (and because he lives in a forest that he himself had a hand in cultivating, he always has the proper ingredients), the Sage can concoct a potion for just about anything.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course I'll gladly change anything that doesn't sit well with you.

Re: End Of Darkness (Roleplayer Recruitment) ( )

Name: Illianora
Apparent Age: 32
Corporeal Form: Nymph
Appearence: Illianora bears hair of rich mahogony that cascades past her shoulders down to the small of her back. She wears it unbound, the crown encircled in a garland of deep green leaves the same hue as her eyes. These though shift in colour, mirroring her mood; soft, pale green giving way to placid hazel, vibrant lime, deep emerald or swirling olive. Her skin is pale - almost unpigmented - the faint hint of blue veins sometimes visible and she is of a slim build, her very slightly pointed ears emphasising her finely boned face. She wears robes of ivy green, hiding her waif-like figure beneath billows of soft cloth, and walks barefoot.
Personality: Illianora doesn't seem to be a very emotive nymph - traces of her Nemhe ancestry slipping through - but she is wise and loyal. Her significant shortfall is that she can too often think the best of people - even in the most dire of situations - and can be overly trustworthy. Although seemingly cold, she is gentle at heart, her soul wish to return Nanurriel to it's people her only reason for being.
Nanurriel History: Knowing that she could no more stop her twin than she could shirk her responsibility, Illianora has been traversing the land ever since Ikarus' reign, in an attempt to find those worthy of fighting for a land that has all but been lost.
Weapons/Magic: Illianora's only weapon is a narrow-bladed knife, the irridescent metallic hilt etched with the great star-eagles that fly in the nothing. This, along with her extensive use of magic, is the only thing that marks her different from the nymphei. Illianora specialises in nature-based magics, calling both animals and plants to aid her in both defensive and offensive situations.

Name: Ikarus
Apparent Age: 32
Corporeal Form: Elf
Appearence: Ikarus, like his twin, bears hair of a rich red-brown that is permanently bound behind his finely pointed ears. His eyes are black due to the hold his magic has over him, though if he were of the same nature as his sister, they would be a deep forest green. Also like Illianora, his skin is so white that it hints on blue but he is of a more muscular build, his torso toned though he maintains the tall elven stature. Clothed in black, he wears a light plate of dark, charcoal-coloured steel upon his chest, openly displaying the Nemhe's star-eagle crest for all those who are able to get close enough to see it. His gloved hands also bear a small plate of the same metal over the back of each, hinged at the first set of knuckles and ending at the second, and though his knee-length boots are protected similarly, his thighs are bare for better ease of movement.
Personality: Courtesy of his Godlike heritage, Ikarus seems as cold as his twin, although this time, appearences are true: his sole belief is that his offspring should be the only beings living in the universe. When it comes to his children - and any being he creates is classed as such - Ikarus is highly protective, and only when they are threatened will any emotion from the Nemhe arise. He holds no respect for any other being but his twin, though he loathes her with every essence of his soul.
Nanurriel History: Seeing that Nanurriel was bound to its own destruction, Ikarus took it for his own, draping his magic over the world to shroud it from the Nemhe watching from the Nothing. Since then, he has done nothing but create his offspring; some born from the mortals - willingly and forcefully given - some from his own flesh, and some from the corpses of his kills.
Weapons/Magic: Ikarus carries a broadsword strapped to his back - made from the same material as his sister's knife - but will only use it as a last resort. His magic is necromantic in origin and includes summoning demons, reanimating corpses and rotting flesh. He can - when pushed - kill a person outright but the act almost completely drains him of his magic and leaves him exhausted; it take the better part of a day to recover and so this power is used very rarely.
