Jill stood on the rooftop, her magnum in hand aiming at a disoriented, berserk jack. He stood there eyeing her, saliva dripping from his mouth onto the ground. Jill stood contemplating, whether or not to pull the trigger. "Why jack?" she asked, a tear running down her cheek, and blood running down her arm. Jack had broken it in their previous confrontation. But this was merely the end. We must go back to the beginning.

Days before...

"So jack? you say you don't remember anything?" Jill asked stepping over debris and clothes. She stopped and looked up at the destroyed skyscraper with a chunk missing from it. It had been in the path of one of the meteors thats crashed. "Yea thats right. Not a thing" Jack replied wiping sweat from his forehead. "Weird" Jill replied. They had just went through a destroyed convience store, looking for any kind of food that could have been left. They found 3 cans of beans, and a can of soup. "Well lets get out of the open, those monsters like to lurk around here" jill said walking into the skyscrapers lobby. It, like every other floor was totaled, but it was Jill's home now. They climbed to the third floor and went into a empty office. Medicine and and miscellaneous items lay about the tables around the area. Jill went to put their loot into the other room, and Jack took a seat next to the window, looking out onto the street, thinking about how he survived for so long. He couldn't remember much, but didn't spend to much time on it. Jill reemerged from the other room with a bottle of vodka and 2 shot glass. "Up for a drink?" she said smiling. Jack smiled back "I could sure as hell use one" he replied.

Atreyu crawled over and under smashed cars, rocks, trees, and everything else that was destroyed in the meteor shower as he made his way to the city. He could not speak, for his jaw was still fractured. ** Damn, I hope I'm not the last. ** He thought to himself. Atreyu would then come to a dead halt and fall to the ground, his instinct from his training. He crouched up after a few seconds to see where the crash came from. about 100+ yards away stood a Man. Atreyu smiled as he thought it was a survivor!

He quickly stood up and ran in that direction, his M107 rifle attached to his back and one compact pistol out. Atreyu waved his hands like mad to get the mans attention. Something began to itch in Atreyu's thoughts, something wasn't quite right. The man swayed back and forth, his color was changing to the blue of his veins.

Atreyu stopped and kicked a can at the man. The man would slowly turn around looking at Atreyu, his saliva dripping off the right side of his mouth. He then howled and ran at Atreyu with amazing speed. From instinct, Atreyu dropped to one knee and fired his pistol at the man untill he fell. He unloaded a full clip before he dropped.

** What the hell is going on here? ** Atreyu thought. Earlier, when he was about 4 miles out of town, he saw kittens eat their mother alive with such vigor, he threw up. Indeed, He was not alone, but hopefully not the only un-effected.

Molly finally peeled her young eyes open. Dust covered her and only a tiny beam of light shot through a gab in the structure she was in. There wasn't a whole lot of information in her mind but it all quickly came rushing back. A meteor shower, screaming, then silence. Vaugly, Molly could feel her hat still on and her back pack wrapped around her shoulders. Somehow, she had gotten away mostly unscathed. Still, there wasn't anyway she could see of getting out and she felt the panic rise in her throat. Then, Molly heard a noise, someone talking from above her. "HELP!" she screamed.

Jack and Jill enjoyed their drinks undisturbed, unttil Jill began to hear something that vaguely sounded like cries for help. "Do you hear that?" She asked standing and looking out the window. "No i don-...wait." He said standing with her. They both got quiet and tried to hone in on where the screams were coming from. Jill grabbed a pipe and rushed downstairs back into the Lobby. "Hello! Can you hear us?!" Jill screamed trying to get the girl to scream again. Jack ran over to a group of rocks and peered through a crack. "Found her" he said pulling away rubble. Jill ran over and helped him. Soon there was a bigger hole the girl could climb through. Jack reached his hand down there and waited for the girl to grasp it so he could pull her up.

Atreyu calmly walked towards town. His thoughts still on that man who tried to kill him. He kept his eyes open and looked for any spots where he was hidden, but could see all. Trey looked around at his surroundings:

The once beautiful city lay in ruins. The majestic skyscrapers that once ruled the skies of Massic City now lay in a broken heap from the onslaught of rocks that fell from the heavens. The flowers that gave structure and texture to the city was all destroyed, and what left of them were the smashed pots and planters. Everything seemed dead to Atreyu's eyes. Until, he heard the cries.

** From the left!! ** He thought has he looked over to see two figures scrambling over the rocks. Ateryu, still half blinded from the explosion of his vehicle, unhooked his M107 Rifle and took aim, unsure if the things he sees, isn't what he wants. His eagle vision was against him, flashes were his fall for his sniping abilities. He quickly fired two warning shots, barley missing the one reaching down in the rocks, to see if they run for him, or flee.

Jack almost had the girls hand when 2 bullets went whizzing past, one whizzing past his head. He and jill dived behind a few broken columns that once held up the upper floor. "Who was that!?" jill asked paranoid. Jack peeked around the corner and saw a man aiming his rifle down the road. "Shit, must be some lunatic looking for food. Think he'll kill us and find some food" jack said leaning against the column. "Jill, run up those stairs and get to safety, I'll lead him away from here" he said peeking out again. "No, im not going to-.." Jill began before she was cut off. "Jill! Just do it!" He shouted. Jill hesitated at first, but turned and ran for the stairs. Jack looked around to see if he could find something he could use as a weapon. 'Damn' he said when all that lay around him were rocks.

Atreyu sighed. ** Damn flashes! ** He thought. He wished his jaw was not fractured so that he could yell, hoping to get a response. He flicked the switches on his sights so that they zoomed in better. He peered into them, looking down range only to find a woman and a man!! ** I'm alone! ** He thought. He lowered his rifle then remembered. The man he killed earlier was changing to one of those, things...

He calmly walked to where he last saw the man, taking his time, both of his pistols out of their cases. He kicked back each hammer, ready to shoot if the man was indeed infected. Atreyu was now only 50 feet from the mound where he last saw the two people, very cautious, very scared. **Why the hell am I scared? I am a solider for Christs sake! ** He thought.

Ah, the sewers, the residence of only the finest of citizens in this new, beautiful world. From the gushing pipes to the floating fecal matter, everything coated the walls, the floors, the ceilings, the ladders, and just about every surface, dwellers included. Mortimer sped through it all, occasionally catching glimpses of his lesser brethren, but for the most part simply scurrying about, foraging for some food. He found it quickly, a human corpse flushed down into Mortimer's home in neat little parts. It was already spoiled, which was a relief for Mortimer, who would need to use his poisons otherwise. Always a trouble to do that.

So, Mortimer ate and ate, feasting on the flesh, but, as always, still hungry, and still quite bored. Things were becoming to smooth, to easy, to uninteresting. Even the gunshots above didn't interest him...Surly SOMEONE would enter his domain today, if only for a brief visit. Visitors were always appreciated, either as company...

...Or as meals.

Molly had relaxed, she could see the light at the end of the tunnel. She was saved, someone had heard her and they were going to get her out. Gradually, the hole above her got bigger and bigger and then Molly saw her saving grace. A man was reaching down to pull her up into the sunlight once more. Relief flooded the young girl and she moved to reach for his out streched hand just as something whizzed by his face and pinged into the metal above her.

The man dissapeared, yelling to someone else to hide. "No, don't leave. Please don't leave!" Molly cried out as she wiggled to get free.

Tears began to cascade down the teens face as she realized her savior was gone. For a moment hopelessness consumed her but then determination kicked in. Securing tieing her hat under her chin, Molly began to wriggled and wiggled once more. She was not going to die in some old collasped building, not this girl!

Mercer work with a jerk, head skimming the top of the vehicle. Immediatly Brier turned up his nose, eying his owner lazily then laying back down as if it were not the end of the world. She huffed, just to hear the sound of the air rustling, and mopped off her brow. She felt nervous and nauseas, like she always did after nightmares like that.
Considering the situation, a nightmare couldn't seem much worse. Eyes skimming the window's she saw half titled buildings, ceramics beginning to dust and hollow bones rotting. Still, her heart paced faster in a dream than it did now studying the landscapre. Maybe because in the dream it was something she loved that had been taken from her, now there wasn't much to love about being alive. Of course, there was the responsobility and sanity Brier brought about. With another thin inhale, Mercer started up her vehicle, heading further into the city.
