Amidst the colonies of mankind taking to space in orbit around Jupiter, the sun is ever growing into a large Red Giant. As the sun grows and engulfs our home world, something un-foreseeable happens. We... Find our place in the universe.
This is a futuristic space colony based role play. Check over our updating list as more work is being put into it.
- Nitty gritty colonies- No beautiful and elegantly crafted machinery exists in this future. Colonies are large masses of distorted metal. They harbor no fashion statement, no windows, they are just floating chucks of metals.
- Solar Flares- So powerful, now, that we cannot depend on electricity alone. Space stations are known to be knocked out of electricity for days at a time when these high radiation flares hit. All vision comes from cameras, there is no room for windows, the risk of radiation leaking is simply too high. (This includes space-walk suits.)
- To survive and stay in orbit- We managed to harvest the last of the deep sea algeas and plant life to survive in our formidible conditions. They produce enough oxygen to keep a colony stable for a few days. Some stations are, unfortunately too close to Jupiter for rescue if they go down. This is a rare occurrence though. Jupiter has grown hotter, and expanded as well, releasing gasses and energy into space that keeps the colonies in a nearly perpetual orbit. This is also the most common form of harvested energy. Yes, nearly a thousand years into our future, and we still rely on wind... Space wind.
- Numbers- Are low, each colony holds a mere 100,000 to 300,000 people. There are only fourty colonies remaining. At most, that's 12,000,000 out of the nearly 6,000,000,000 that once populated our home world.
- Year-Just under 3,000, perhaps past now. Keeping track of a human timeline has become irrelevant to our survival. Though some elders says it is a good estimate that the year is 2990. It has become harder to tell with the changes of orbit around our dying sun.
The Guide to Survival in the Endless Expanse, aka TGSEE (Teej-See) is the only practiced guide and form of education. Some common remarks from it are...
- "Why look outside and see the vastness of space, when you could be repairing hull damage in Sector 5-9?" -Chapter 1.10 Pay attention.
- "Does this look broken to you? No, it just looks like it's not fixed yet." -Chapter 2.30 Fix it now, or die trying.
- "I don't give a shit if isn't grammatically correct, if you want to die of radiation sickness like it was yesterday stop looking at me and get back to work!" -Chapter 4.90 Ethics.
