So excited to be here!! ( )

Postby Finnel on Fri Dec 09, 2011 4:38 pm

Hi guys, it's so nice to meet you! :D

I'm not exactly very new to role playing, but it is my first time hearing the term "role play game" in a post by post role play forum.
The only role play games I'm familiar with are the video/console games. If someone could explain this to me, it would be great.
(I'm eager to learn.)

Also, this is my first time being in a forum exclusively for role playing, which adds to the excitement.
(Which is also why I'm very reluctant to put a large amount of emoticons in this introductory post because I thought I should be more formal.)

Please do guide me through if I make mistakes here and there from time to time. *bows*

Hope to have a blast in the role plays with you all!!

Yo, Finnel.

Play-by-post roleplaying is essentially collaborative story-telling. Some of the time all the players are pretty much equal contributors, as far as characters and plot go. Other times there's a game master (or two), who works to guide the story to some kind of ending, while the players describe the actions of characters. You'll learn the ropes fast by joining a game, but there's a bit of roleplay etiquette (which you'll also pick up quickly). For instance, don't mess with another player's characters without their permission. Like, if your character swings a sword, the other player decides whether their character is hurt or not.

Games can have anywhere from 2 to infinite players. In theory.

A good starting place to find games is in Interest Checks, although Roleplayers Wanted can serve, as well.

If you don't like waiting for people to reply, there's RPG Chat, which allows you to play games in real time.

There's quite a bit of variety in how people roleplay exactly -- some people like their characters to have statistics, for example -- but them's the basics. Pick games that look interesting to you, and have fun.

If you have any questions or concerns, there's a suspiciously friendly moderator team that's willing to answer questions. I suppose you can also ask other people, too. They don't need to have fancy green names to be helpful.

*Cracks her knuckles*

Well, well, well. Looks like we've got a new arrival.

Hold 'em down, Brutus. Let's make this brief. The Boss wants the ears off every newly registered member, to add to his collection. You don't mind, do ya? Do ya?

Nice of you to stop by RolePlayGateway. It's a pretty awesome place, even though you won't be able to hear anything. Friendly types here, see. Real friendly. Brutus, give 'em a smile!

Hold still, seriously, y'great lout! This will only take a second. After that you're free to wander the place. This is just one little thing we gotta take care of ..

.. But I don't mean to sound disrespectful. M'name's Sato, it's wonderful to meet you, welcome to our lovely home, and this will only hurt a bit ..

RolePlayGateway is a site built by a couple roleplayers who wanted to give a little something back to the roleplay community. The site has no intention of earning any profit, and is paid for out of their own pockets.

If you appreciate what they do, feel free to donate your spare change to help feed them on the weekends. After selecting the amount you want to donate from the menu, you can continue by clicking on PayPal logo.
