Eye of the Beholder [OOC] (sign-ups!) ( )

<(o)>Eye of the Beholder<(o)> [OOC]

IC ~> eye-the-beholder-still-needs-rper-t12515.html

Welcome one and all to my RP! My goal is to keep you interested and posting. Most of reading below is for your benefit and describes the world in which you'll be immersed. You can skim through it at any time, but the required character skeleton is towards the bottom along with a note involving intros.

Your Characters
There are only four things that I request from the characters themselves:
1~ Make your character reputable to fit into the story line. Magic is welcome.
2~ Fill out the character bio/skeleton.
3~Character options are very open here with the exception of vampires, demons, angels, ghosts, lycans. Acceptable characters would be more like; elves, half-elves,humans, orcs, half-orcs, dwarfs, gnomes, any sub race of the aforementioned would be fine to but you have to contain a brief description of that race.
4~ I'm not gonna ask for long posts. I would like it if we had consistant posters with quality posts that make sense.

I'd like to have at least four players to start the IC and at most ten. (<--- If more want to join this number is negotiable.)

The Plot
The plot begins with the story below. Once you have completed the first goal, the story will expand from there and your adventure will become more dangerous as you go along. There are a couple side quests that you may venture on should you choose to. As the story expands I will add more descriptions for the islands surrounding Yara. Should this go as planned you will be traveling to each of them at one point.

*WARNING* ~ Do not read this if you like a challenge.......
The islands around the mainland have a specific element to them as do the creatures that will end up inhabiting them. It could be easier on your character if you are adapted at overtaking those particular elements with an opposing one. (ex: electric vs. water = electric ftw)
Kast Isle ~ Water creatures
Grethun Isle ~ Fire creatures
Erebos Isle ~ Dark creatures

The Story
Eye of the Beholder

Nothing is as it seems........

In the farthest reaches of the Crestian Sea lay the islands of Yara. A small kingdom when compared to the others of Lore. Life revolved around the importing and exporting of exotic sea and island supplied products. Such things as fish, pearls, fruit, special woods that only grew on the islands, and sponges. Although small, Yara was a rich kingdom. Unfortunately for it's people the royal family was a jealous and greedy sort.

For the last few centuries, Yara was ruled by the most self-indulgent of three kings. They taxed the working class heavily and punished many for petty crimes. Because the income of Yara revolved around the exporting of goods, farmers weren't allowed to keep any of their crops. They would have to purchase everything they needed including the food that grew by their very houses. This only served to fatten the kings' pockets even more. So life was for each of the past kings that ruled Yara. It was only until recently, after the death of King Malozar, that the people have been living in peace.

Leaving only one heir, Princess Katarina, she ruled with a gentle hand. By lowering the taxes and making life for everyone brighter, she gained the love and respect of her people. She was a beautiful young woman. Some would call her the ‘Nymph of Yara’ because of her goddess like looks. Her hair was so long it traveled down the length of her legs. Naturally a dark brown color, the outer most layers of hair were bleached to a copper color because of the exposure to sun. She was deeply tanned with crystal like blue eyes. You could swear she could see through to your very being as if you were an apparition.

One evening she vanished. It seemed almost out of thin air. Her personal guardsmen were on watch and swore that they knew and saw nothing of her whereabouts. They said that Princess Katarina was famous for taking strolls along the shores by herself in the middle of the night, and offered this as an explanation for her disappearance. The head of the royal guard, Vincent, ordered five of his best men to search the seashore for her. They however, never returned.

In her absence, Vincent was left to run the Kingdom as best he could. Like many of the people of Yara, he loved his princess and was adamant in finding her. After sending several searching parties for her, with no return of men or message, he decided it was time to seek more adequate help. Instead of sending his best men in search of Katarina, he sent the wisest and smartest of them overseas in search of adventurers who were capable of completing the task.

Yara Mainland & Castle Description
Image

The only way on and off the Yara Islands is through boat. The most common area for entrance is the main docks located to the far west of the Yara Mainland. There are two large piers there. They are fifty feet long and fifteen feet wide. Almost always busy, people flocked the docks with outgoing and incoming goods. Lobster and fish crates hung on the side of the piers, which gave it a constant fishy smell. Boxes and crates of all sorts also lined the edges of the pier. The most popular port city was Safron Bay (which also happens to be the closest).

Most of the main land was covered with jungle like foliage, though not as dense as the amazon. There were a few small fishing villages along the coast. The inner most parts of the mainland were home to fruit or cattle farmers that had more land and larger homesteads. The market, taverns, and various shops were the closest to the Castle of Yara. Many of the houses on the island were made of stone, some imported for those who had money.

The castle itself was grand. It housed all of the men and women that served for the royal family, the servants (cooks, maids, servers), the entire guard, the royal guard, and last but not least the jester. It was made of three levels. The largest at the bottom and the smallest on top. The large doors on the first floor opened up to the throne room. A long hallway with high ceilings lead to the alabaster stone throne. Lined along the hallway were big dark granite columns. The east wing held the jester's room and the barracks. The west wing held the dining area, kitchen, servers quarters, and a living area. Behind the throne itself were two stairways leading to the second floor.

This is where all the guest rooms were. Each room contained a fire place, tapestries, a tub, beds, and several dressers. There were all sorts of seaside decor in all of the rooms. In addition to the guest rooms was the library. Books from the history of Yara to the legend of the Zard Wars were there. Fact or fiction, whatever suited your liking you can find. A sitting area was located in the middle of the room. Also on this floor were a couple more sets of stair ways leading to the royal level. This is where the royal family slept and stayed for privacy. It was never occupied by anyone who was not of royal blood. Even Vincent, the head of the royal guard, slept on the second floor.

Intro's

Your intro will have to include a brief interaction scene for when you met these "wise men".

Here is some info on them and what is written in each scroll:

The 'wise men', or so people liked to call them, were more than mere scholars. It was within their ability to perform magic. Not as a mages do with attack and defensive spells however, and nor could they cure wounds or reanimate the dead. Instead it was the power and blessing of the water goddess that granted these men and women the power to search out important knowledge around the world when in great need. Travel was a nessesity in their task but it would not be an obstacle. Should a long distance await them, the wind would be their steed and their physical form would transend to enlightenment. This was the nature of their spells.

Upon accepting each scroll from the hand of the 'wise men', they will disappear and be instantly teleported back to the castle in Yara so that they may inform Vincent of their success.

Each scroll will read:

Our small continent, Yara, is in need of champions. Our only heir to the throne has been missing and unheard from in over a fortnight. Something is amiss here and our kingdom is threatened with an economic collapse. We ask for your aid and are prepared to offer you a reward of 5,000 gold pieces to find our Princess Katarina. Should you choose to accept this proposal, you must make your way to the docks in Safron Bay. The boat you are looking for has the name of our princess on the stern at the end of the next lunar cycle.

Example (from the "wise man's/woman's" perspective):

Luke Bosma

"The Lost Legends" was a book that contained information on said 'heroes' and their history. Most were pronounced dead, but there was one that stated his whereabouts were unknown and he was just presumed dead. The book described him as a "charitable war hero". A perfect attribute that suits my tastes. The young hooded women thought to herself as she clutched her book at her side. She hoped it was the wind and her magic that felt giving today. She needed to find this man and give him her scroll, but she had no idea where to start.

As she stepped off the boat, she watched as the other women left the pier. The young girl was nervous. This would be her first time that she had tried her gift. As she closed her eyes, she felt herself become lighter. Take me to him. Her essences drifted with the winds and her mind hoped that she wouldn't find herself by a grave.

Her body became completely solid within a few short moments and before she had the chance to let out a sigh of relief, she fell five feet onto the ground. Landing with a loud *thud* and a cracking of bushes. Her hood fell even farther over her head, and she wasn't able to see. Stumbling about trying to fix her robes, she tripped backwards over something big this time. The fall had fixed her hood and she finally realized she was in a forest. The smell of cooked meat was around her. She looked in front of her and noticed a man in a worn cape. It's him! I knew it! She approached him without a word and snapped out her hand that held the scroll.

Mind if I have my character enter by mistake? By that I mean that they aren't summoned by the wise men, just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time?

You could come across a dropped scroll or even be a guard that ended up having to go with the group. I don't really see a problem with that as long as you can fit yourself into the story somewhere along the way.

Just glad to see someone actually put some work into their RP. <<

Name: Greywhisker
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Race: Rattius
Class: Theif/Healer
Appearance:Image
Body: 5'6", 110 lbs
Clothes: See pic.
Facial expression most often seen: Always either smiling brightly or looking down at the ground shyly
Hair: Brown with grey splotches
Eyes: Purple
Voice: Moderate-high, stuttering, occasionally squeaks when frightened
Equipment: None
Item: None
Personality: Greywhisker is best described as shy and kind. He garters the sympathy of most everyone around him, always considered the fragile runt with an optimistic, naive view of the world. He rarely speaks unless spoken to, finds joy in the smallest of things, and rarely disobeys orders, no matter how arbitrary.
Brief History: Greywhisker grew up poor on the docks, spending his time doing odd jobs. However, most of his income came from theivery, a practise that was hated yet necessary. Hence, he learned to be swift and agile, instead of strong. He is merely a forager, looking for a stable life...

I don't mind if you have more than one character, but I'm not too keen on the idea of identical twins. I'd like to see some variances in character/'s. If you have twins, make something about them completely different, whether is personality or abilities. Or just something to that measure.

Oh, I wasn't planning on them being identical. More like fraternals with totally different personalities. Or just plain sisters.... Man, I'm confusing myself. I'll have a profile up later.

Name: Kida Lumier
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Class: Pirate
Appearance: Image
Body: 5'6" 121
Clothes: Usually what she wears in the picture, but she tends to also wear something a kin to what men wear, though still feminine in it's styling. It is used for when she is fighting or doing some hard labor. She also wears white gloves so her hands don't become charred with gun powder. She has a pirate captains hat that she loves to wear and an eye patch over her right eye.
Facial expression most often seen: Depending on who you are you will often times see her with a scolding look her face, especially when she is addressing her crew. When she is in an environment that requires her to be more lady like or presentable she has a fake smile that gives the illusion of a soft, kind, albeit sexy girl.
Hair: Brown, naturally curly, stops about mid back.
Eyes: One eye is emerald green, the other is an eerie gray.
Voice: It is soft, seductive and very pleasant to listen to.
Equipment:
Weapons:A revolver pistol, the mussel is long, almost as long as her forearm and has unique designs carved into the metal and wood. A rapier that has intricately designed hilt with her families name engraved in the hilt. It is a fine piece of metal that would make any sword enthusiast jealous.
Gear: Kida has a traveling sack that she carries with her that contains treasure that is precious to her, a diary, some extra clothes, extra bullets and gun powder, and a small music box that no one has ever opened.
Item: A gold necklace with topaz wrung through out. A bracelet with a heart locket on it that has a picture of an extremely handsome man.
Personality: Kida is generally good person, she just loves gold and riches. She will accept any vagrant onto her ship as long as they don't hold her back. She has a very dominant personality, loving to rule and control others, but she is a good leader that others like to follow. She isn't afraid to tell someone off and won't hesitate to bit your head off when you do something wrong. She has a soft spot for kids and other women, though she doesn't really put herself in the category of women. She has been in love, but it ended very bloodily and she has a hard time falling in love. She is generally very trusting, but because of recent events she has become wary of others.
Brief History: Kida was the only daughter of one of the greatest pirates ever to sail the sea, Lucas Lumier. He was famous for killing a Kraken in the Mediterranean sea. She was raised by a kind mother and only saw her father once a year, perhaps more if he felt like coming. She always admired her father and when she was old enough, meaning when she was sixteen, she left her mother for the life of a pirate. Her father died soon after, but she knew he died an honorable pirates death, fighting the marines to save his crew and treasure.

She sailed the seas and got a very good reputation for herself, especially for her ability to blend in with the aristocrats to steal all of their money. She has broken many a royals heart. She gathered a very large crew of men she trusted and who served her faithfully. Then she heard of her mothers death. She sailed back to her homeland to prepare her funeral. When she arrived she found that a new inhabitant had come to their lovely town and she soon met the man. He was handsome and brave and very suave. He swept her off her feet and she was very much in love. He said he would accompany her on her ship and she made him her right hand man. A year went by and everyone really liked him, until he formed a band that consisted of over half of her crew, and started a mutiny. She tried to defend herself and those that were loyal to her, but they were killed and her right eye was blinded with a spell from him. He had the attributes of ice.

It has been a year since then and she is now searching for a new crew, but still hasn't fully healed from the heart break. She has not found any crew since she needs money to get a ship and pay them and she doesn't have enough to do that yet.

I want something strange- but something to add to the protective potential of my character-
I want her to have... Multiple personality disorder.

:)

Name: Erin [first personality and most dominate] and Nire [second personality, violent]
Age: 27
Gender: female
Race: human/elf
Class: hunter/warrior
Appearance: Image
Body: lean- very fit and prime for combat/ dark tan/ standing 5'10
Clothes: Usually something tribal, mixed with some slight showings of common styles. Her most common attire for leaving is fitting shorts, tied up with belts of shrill vinery dried and smoothened with a strange rosen sap. Her top is usually strapless, tight against her skin and made of imported cloth, embellished with shimmering glyphs from a sap stirred with indigo dyes. The colors of this range from her dark blue shorts to her black wrap and the blue designs upon it. Around her neck lay a silver stone, mirror-like, in which she can speak to her other personality without losing control. As well, her belts are white, while her feet are wrapped in black bandaging, as are her fists. Upon her back is a black scabbard, and a blue one, holding both her blades.
Facial expression most often seen: Erin- kind and gentle, softly smiling/ Nire- angry, demeaning, hateful or scrutinizing
Hair: Black and wavy, falling bodily to the center of her back
Eyes: deep chocolate rising to a soft auburn or maple color around the pupil
Voice: soft, strong, feminine yet surely something with pride and courage behind it.
Equipment: Two dual use blades- each is about two feet long, with a small blade coming out of the straight of the hilt. The blade itself wavers at the tip sharply, giving it multiple dangerous edges at its end.
Item: She carries two things- one is a wild-growing leaf she calls the Temperment, for when eaten, it soothes Nire, or keeps Nire from taking over. As well, she carries a needle and thread for stitching wounds.
Personality: Erin- Erin is gentle, a warrior at heart but as well a leader. She is compassionate, and leaves noone behind. Her heart is golden, as is her smile. Kindness radiates from her, and her protective ways... Nire- Nire is hateful, self-centered, and violent. She still keeps up with the goals of Erin, but is more careless, making her a more risky fighter who would never hold back her true force.
Brief History: Erin was born in a small coast-village of Yara, to a mother of human descent, and a father of elven descent. Her father fled back to the forests of Yara, but her mother tried to nurture her forward by herself.
As Erin progressed, she found out the reason why her father fled. Erin was cursed with a twin mentality that was everything dark and careless. That was Nire [pronounced Nira], her split personality.
Driving her mother away, Erin decided to go in search of her father in the woods.

After much hard time, she found herself amongst a small and lone society of primal beings there, composed of many, and decided that her safest lifestyle was one away from large society.
One who knows nothing, can understand nothing.

FranticAntix, I noticed one of your character was welding a longsword. I just wanted to know, mostly because the the confusion between the sword types bugs me, do you mean an actual two handed long sword or an arming sword?

I'll provide some pics encase there is any confusion.

@irishwolf~ I geuss it depends on how you look at it. If your talking about reality, which your pictures depict, then maybe. Longswords could have been used as two-handed but some were made lighter to also be used as one handed swords so that a man could also bare tocarry a shield. A claymore, in my opinion, is a better name for a two handed sword.

My outlook, I play a lot of rpgs. Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and WoW among others. In everyone of those games the type of weapon a sword is is stated in its name and description. If it's a two handed sword, it's stated as a two handed sword. So, Vincent is dual-wielding right now. Hope that clarifies it up for you.

Everyone is accepted so far except for Vyrwolf. I should have said something sooner but I was running out of time yesterday. I really only wanted to have the races that I stated at the top. I wouldn't mind a sub-human race but your character right now is a little out of the norm of what I'm looking for. If you could twink the bio a little, I'd be more than happy to have you aboard.

We just need a couple more and I'll put the IC up.

I'm just gonna put it up now and hopefully we can get some more people to join.

Am I reading this right? You're not allowing my character...because he's out of the norm? Not very conducive to the idea of fantasy, isn't it?

Name: Allessius Solius Arkanos
Age: 157
Gender: Male
Race: High Elf
Class: Sorcerer (Mage/Summoner hybrid)
Appearance: Pic related.
Body: Much taller than the average human male, thin, poor muscles
Clothes: Grey-blue robe, bordered with gold. Carries a silken satchel for various supplies. Wears comfortable leather sandals that wrap around his ankles, but these are generally concealed beneath the hem of his robe.
Facial expression most often seen: Stoic calm
Hair: Golden-brown
Eyes: Green, color varies when casting spells
Voice: Quiet, smooth
Equipment:
Weapons: Conventional, unadorned ebony long staff; small silver dagger (kept in leather sheath on left hip)
Items: Various bandages, some elixirs to increase concentration. All of his items (including a small cloth sack full of coins, some writing materials, his family signet ring, etc.) are kept in his satchel.
Personality: Elitist, introverted, restless, subtly angry and insecure.
Brief History: Born to an ancient elven family, Allessius was raised in relative comfort. After his seventieth birthday, he began to grow disenchanted with a life of endless learning and frigid dinner parties. By his eightieth year, he was out experiencing the world beyond his family's gilded palaces, finding much more enjoyment in hunting bandits for petty coin than spending his father's wealth on enchanted jewelry. After traveling for more than 70 years, never speaking to his family or old friends, he was approached with an offer he just couldn't refuse: rescue the princess of a tropical island kingdom.

For the purposes of my rp, no. I don't think you read fully however. I'd love you have you along, but I'd much prefer if you'd have a standard race, like I have listed at the top of my thread. If your set on at least being half-rattius, then get creative and be some kind of escaped summon being, or experiment. I did say I wouldn't mind a "sub-human" race, but full ratius "Is out of the norm, of what I'm looking for". I'm more than happy to have you but you need to have a character that fits into my guidelines.

CR22 your accepted.

I'm going to include a link to my orginal post to the IC. Feel free to post yours intros. Eternity your intro was great.

Great intro's everyone. We can deffinetly do this with five people but I am still leaving it open for more if you know of anyone that wants to join. I went ahead and posted. If you have any qeustions on what you need to do next just let me know. Basically find your way to Vincent within the castle walls. It'd be nice if all of you could meet up at the docks or somewhere along the lines, that way I can have Vincent talk to you all at once.

Hey, Eternity, if you want to work some sort of backstory out between my character and yours, PM me. This could have potential.

Also: apparently, everyone can read the true feelings and explicit intentions of a being with 130 more of experience than them. Metagaming ftw.
