Re: Fable 2 ( )

I don't care about achievments.

I still am highly anticipatory about Fable 2, though. I seem to be one of about a dozen people on the internet who enjoyed the original game and have never been inspired into sending Peter Moleyneux any death threats. It's a personal classic for me.

I am very dissapointed to hear about the new "death" (har, har!) system, though. I just loose gold (which I can earn again) and experience (which I can get back)? Lame! It was lame in Diablo, it was lame in Titan Quest, it was lame in Dungeon Siege, and it WILL be lame here. Of course death itself was a rather rare thing in the first game, so maybe I won't have to go through the lameness too often.

The character interaction system looks a great deal deeper than it was in the original, though I still think we'd be better off with some good-old-fashioned dialogue trees.

Combat and magic look just as kick-ass as the original, if not moresoe.

As for the setting? Well, first of all, Lionhead seems to be focusing much more on backstory this time around, which was nice since the original gameworld was pretty shallow. I also like the whole Dickensian charm going into it this time around, very unique and fun.

I am apprehensive about the enemies. So far we've seen Hobbes, bandits, Balvorines, and trolls....in other words, nothing new. There wasn't nearly enough enemy variety for my tastes in the original Fable, and I think that if i have to fight another nameless bandit I may just vomit.

It also looks like we'll be subjected to even more minigames, yuck. Fortunately, looks like they'll be optional.

And most of all: COOPERATIVE TWO-PLAYER! EPIC W00TZ! GIMME GIMME!

I kinda feel the same way but the introduction of guns has me hyped up I hope they remove the bandits from the game and add something more original also I hated that if I killed a creature I got good points since I was trying to be evil also I wonder if they'll allow whips in this new game.

What? Nay, I not be saying that them there lubbing developers should be out and removing yonder bandits, just that they shouldst be putting in some different enemies as well, gyar! But them bandits needs to be staying, since they bes a big part of what makes Fable into what it be! Gyar! Methinks, for instance, mayhap some spriggan-like creatuers would fit in well with the Fable universe, in ADDITION to them there bandits.

Yay for Fable 2! I'm looking forward to it, but I'll have to wait until it's released on PC since, initially, it's only going to be for the 360 (which I do not have).

I actually only started playing Fable 1 today, believe it or not. I'm really into it so far! It's quite a fun game. I only wish I could play it on a console and use a controller rather than a keyboard and mouse. Beyond that miner detail though, I really love all the customizability. I also like that you have the option to choose a path between good and evil for your Hero. Haha and the names/titles for your character is an awesome addition. It's hilarious hearing what the townspeople have to say about your name. I really like all the NPCs' personalities. There's so much to do! You really build a person to be how you want them to be, and I love that. You can even buy a house and get married and choose your sexuality!? Amazing! I can't wait to get farther in the game. I just hope I beat it before the new one is released (for PC).

I'm sure I'll enjoy Fable 2, especially since the graphics will be updated in addition, but I won't look into it right now as I still have catching up to do in the form of the first game. Like I said though, I'm really loving it! =]

Fable was great. I liked how unique it was and the balance of powers. It was way too easy to be evil though, hugely fun, but too easy. :D

Dialogue trees suck by the way, as as roleplayer who values character development I am hugely annoyed by the restrictions dialogue trees impose, bring on the better interaction!

People sent death threats over this game? Why on Earth would anyone be inspired to hate mail over Fable?

It's just a game?

WOAH, GUNS?! WHY!!? I only just read that part. Why introduce guns to a good game? Why ruin it with bloody firearms, are we talking muskets?

I do have to make one last comment, after reading yonder Bandit lovin' mateys post: Co. Operative. Two. Player. Mode.

OH.

YES!!!!!!!
When the means seem to justify the ends, you've tried to hard to find an excuse. When 'by any means necessary' means 'violence may become necessary' you've lost sight of your goal. When people lay down and die rather than endure any more suffering, worry for the state of humanity. When people do not comment on how wrong this is, become angry at the world, because feeling that upset is too hard to bare. When people say 'you care too much' don't answer, because there is no such thing.

There are guns because Fable 2 takes place 500 years after the original. Naturally, technology has advanced quite a bit. We're dealing with a more Not-Quite-To-Industrial-Revolution-Yet setting now. Which I think is cool. Anyone else bothered by all the fantasy worlds with centuries of history written out, but with no technological advancement to speak of?

Anyway, the rumored hate mail was the result of some very bad over-hyping prior to Fable's release. Basically, whenever the lead developer got a cool idea, he would spout it out to the media. Among the things he mentioned being in the game:
-Cutting down trees, which might affect the way a town was built later on, but also might just grow back in real time

-Rival heroes who would try to one-up you on your important quests

-Free roaming enviroments

-A storyline that would be completely different every time depending on every little decision you made.

Instead, we got this.

I understand. Sometimes I dislike when games must transfer to guns though. It seems to happen a lot, but it kind of makes sense. Though why things should always follow a real wolrd pattern I will never know, who says in that world guns will be thought of? Why must they have the same social and technological developments as humanity did? This does not always make sense and is not always necessrary. Especially in games where the world is full of magic users (not Fable as such, but other games which make technological leaps similar to our own for no apaprent reason when everyone has magic capable of more than guns can ever do)

That review has some good points :P I too am annoyed by the GOOD or EVIL aspect.

Of course ideas and actual programming capabilities compared to deadlines and realistic expenses are often very different. I like it when games don't try to outclass themselves, and don't then try to shove all the new wonderous changes into a bitterly disappointing sequal which then breaks down because of all the wonderous changes they shoved in XD
