As the events had slowly drawn out, and peace had slowly revealed itself as the Dragoons recovered their youngling Julias had remained relatively quite, receiving weary looks from the Dragoons around him. Even if they weren’t sure what he was, having all black skin and red eyes tended to point towards demonic origins, in most superstitious areas. Yet it seemed they would keep the peace, now that the small party was no longer seen as a threat. It seemed all was well, at least until some drunken idiot charged into the small camp.

Shaking off the despicable stench that wafted the air at the man’s presence Julias looked him up and down; Classic fighter, with a blade in hand and confident to an extreme fault, nothing special, especially not with fighters like Lars and Mar around. As a string of drunken ramblings ensued Julias watched with a silent chuckle as Aryn manipulated the wind to blow away the foul stench. It seemed Julias wasn’t the only one appreciative of the elf’s actions, as Mar broke out into deep laughter. In the weeks since his arrival and, weary greeting, Julias had come to value Mar’s presence. They weren’t the best of friends, but they respected each other, and Mar was an asset in battle.

As a thin smile passed Julias’s thin lips the screech of a sword split the peaceful setting. His eyes springing up to the drawn blade of the drunk Julias’s own blade was in his hand and he was halfway across the span between them before Jade snapped behind the foolish man, her blade at his throat.

"You will do well to keep your soddering drunken challenges to yourself, mate. The last I can recall, you didn't see fit to keep up with our jolly group. Mar has done more for our cause in a day than you did the entire time you were tagging along. Do not make the mistake of thinking that waving your temper about is going to get you a cushioned seat back in our numbers. Now lower your blade."

His eyes narrowed Julias also watched the man, his blade ready to be thrown at a moments notice.

“You’d do well to listen, Mar may not be my favorite person, but I owe him many a times over, as do we all, you draw a blade to him, you draw a blade to all of us.”

"Hmph, fine. I'll keep my "Challenges to myself" mate. But you would do well to listen here, Jade. Watch yourself, for I'm sober now...and you would do well not to attempt to hurt me. I'm in a good mood, so I'll sheath my blade."

Wolf then stepped back, eyeing Julias as he too apparently would be ready to defend. With a glare at the two, he sheathed his longsword and stepped back another two paces. Turning around, he then watched the Dragoons, who were still caring and watching the young one intently. Flashing a wide grin, Wolf then sat down, cross-legged with his back to the group. Planting his hands firmly on his knees, he then settled himself.

Calm yourself young one, you've no reason to go about getting yourself killed. Take a good long rest, rest....rest.

Wolf then sighed, letting out a deep breathe as he continued into his trance to calm oneself. The others were right, he needn't cause trouble now, he needn't be what he used to be...a blasted drunkard. No, now was the time to repent and help the gods that hadn't betrayed him; only showing the error of his ways. Opening his eyes, Wolf looked out again across the horizon, half conscious to whatever the others threw at him.

Aryn watched all this with the usual interest with which she viewed the events around her, mentally recording next to everything that went on. Given his behaviour, she wasn't sure she believed this stranger's claim to be cold sober; his slurred ramblings, his wild sword-waving, and then randomly sitting down on the ground? At least the dragoons were no longer interested in the affairs of the group; it'd be hard to explain that they really had meant no ill-will when they were tolerating the presence of such a person. The others seemed vaguely familiar with him, Jade at least seemed to have minimal fond-memories of the man. Once more the young woman surveyed him from top to bottom. "Who..." she cleared her throat, directing her question to Jade as she straightened the satchel by her side - subconscious habit "Who is this?"

Mar opened his mouth, fangs and teeth glinted, and he loosed a deep laugh. This was highly comical to him. He stood his ground as the sword was pointed to him, but Jade, and Gods! Even Julias stood in his defence. This caused him to laugh juvially as Wolf plopped to the ground. After a moment, Mar walked up to Julias and patted him on the shoulder, then continued to Wolf, kneeling he looked eye level with the long lost friend of Jade's.

"You know, after all this time, Wolf, I would have supposed you would've have learned some humility to an old friend. I am overly presumptious, and I apalogize for that." Mar grinned, again his fangs bared, "But, you're quite the one to challenge me, and that you've my respect...at least for now. Refrain from future drunken outbursts, or might not be me who's ripping out you're neck." With another deep laugh, Mar stood. Looking over to his friends, "Well, we've lingered here for some time now, Zai seemes content with his family, for are no longer his and he ours. Respsect that of a fathering dragoon, and let us decide what our next venture is..." he knodded to Jade, "..that is," Mar laughed once more, "...if we are yet fit to travel."

The tired dragon stared at Wolf, as he had randomly crashed into the camp, then randomly drawn blade, and then randomly settled on the ground. All the chaos that had happened with the hatchling and its parents had now left his mind completely, and Olechriss had almost forgot that he had jumped up and attempted to explain to the dragoons their intentions earlier.

He could usually suck up the happenings around him rather easily. Being a super-natural being, he was used to super-natural events that happened all the time around him. Maybe he was tired? Seriously tired if that's the case. That could obviously be it, because when he thought about it, he had slept great his entire time with this group. He shook the thoughts of his mind, it was unimportant. He blinked a few times and then kept his focus on Wolf, not saying anything and not commenting anything. Except a short, unpleasant sounding grunt-like burp.

"You obviously don't listen there, young lass."

Wolf quickly stood up, turning back to the group with a renewed calm around him. Staring down the woman, he again spoke:

"My name is Wolf, a member of the Chosen before I " he chuckled, "forgot the carriage that they set off with back at Silia's Sickle. You obviously wouldn't know, since I've no clear idea who you might be, nor would I much care. But, in any case..."

Wolf then again turned back to Mars, the Dragoon, and proceeded to answer back:

"Sorry for the drunken outburst Mar, you know well enough of my condition. I needn't have your respect, but do wise, don't do rash actions on others while I'm around. Even if I do them; people who get hurt because of your anger is something that...doesn't sit well with me. Heh, besides, I might take well to this group."

Turning to the rest of the group, he merely looked at them. The new creature interested him, as it was apparently of demon origins. He had yet to hear from Lars, but no matter; important things were crossing his mind and he had to get his respect back with the group.

"And clearly your memory is not as sharp as you'd like to think," Jade snarled right back at Wolf as she sheathed her blade. "Challenge me again, Wolf...just once...and I will not let it pass." The glint in her strange eyes and the tone of her voice made the other wise simple threat much more ominous. She had discovered long ago that order in a crew - or group - could not be maintained if the captain - or leader - was slighted without reprimand.

The halfling woman turned back in time to see some of the dragoons beginning to lift off from the ground, stirring up the dirt of the camp into dozens of little cyclones. They had what they had come for, and there was no reason for them to stay away from their loved ones any longer. But quite suddenly, the flight was interrupted by one of the younger warriors crashing to the ground. He had been sent off balance by a thick, sharpened stake that had been flung hard enough to wedge into the impregnable scale armor sprouting from his shoulder. And before the young warrior had even hit the ground, a bit of hell broke loose inside the camp and a volley too thick to see through went flying towards all inside.

Mar roared with anger as one of his kin plummeted to the ground with a stick coming out of his shoulder. With all his speed he rushed over to him, Brother, relaxe, I will remove the obscurity. With a mighty tug, he ripped it cleanly out the dragoons shoulder. Leave, now! Keep Zai safe! Mar's wings burst from his cloak as he ran towards his friends, sword already out, "Someone is going to die!"

With a calculating stare Julias watched the strange man, Wolf, apparently. He was confident, and no doubt strong, yet arrogant to an extreme fault. Either this man would rapidly slip back into the group, or they’d end up killing him within the week. Either way Julias didn’t plan on getting involved, as long as the man kept his sword sheathed. Julias had become….comfortable with the others presence, he would prefer to keep things as they were, if at all possible. With a smile Julias watched as Jade piped up, a dangerous glare in her eyes.

"And clearly your memory is not as sharp as you'd like to think, challenge me again, Wolf...just once...and I will not let it pass."

As Jade stalked away Julias watched as the company of dragoons slowly filed away. Which was a relief, fighting a group that large had never really been an option, and recently Julia was less….appreciative of bloodshed. As he turned with a brief smile one of the dragoons plummeted from the sky, a sharpened javelin piercing its side. As Julias’s normally sharp mind halted, stunned by the sudden turn of events, a hail of spears came flying through the darkness. Staring dumbly at the three spears piercing his chest and side Julias dropped to his knees as blood dripped down his chest. Looking forward dumbly a strange light came over his eyes, and their once dulling shade of red returned to their dark crimson, his pupils squeezing down to the size of pinpricks before fully dilating. Staring back dumbly at the spears in his chest Julias’s head flew back as an inhuman howl burst from his throat, his primal instincts taking over.

With murder in his eyes Julias tore the spears from his body, blood splurting out as he shakily stood, murder in his eyes. Taking his first stumbling step forward Julias once more dropped to one knee, the agonizing pain of his grievous wounds momentarily overwhelming his frenzy. Tearing his pained gaze from the ground below Julias glared at the direction of his tormentors, visions of his carnage filled revenge flashing before his eyes as blood trickled over his brow from a near miss. Suddenly seeming to spasms a rush of tremors ripped through his body as he let loose a terrifying screech, completely consumed by his dark frenzy. As the unholy howl tore through the air Julias seemed to erupt as the blood covering body flew around him in a dark, swirling whirlwind. His pain forgotten in his bloodlust Julias manipulated the cloud of his own blood, ripping the shadows from their dwellings and surrounding himself in an all consuming cloud of darkness.

His appearance now swelled to twice its normal side and the echoes of his cry just dispersing through the wood Julias seemed to explode forward, his cloud of darkness dragging behind his body as he charged out of the encampment, his own grievous wounds forgotten as he searched for his assailants, consumed by bloodlust.

Wolf only smiled rather sarcastically at Jade's rant. He'd rather not speak yet, only now he watched the Dragoons prepare to march off and take flight. Then a rather strange thing occured; a dragoon slammed back to the ground with a stick shoved into him. Then Wolf realized what had happened; they were being ambushed. Mars rushed to the Dragoon's aid and Julias had just gotten several javelins stuck in him. Narrowly dodging one, another spear smashed into the ground directly in front of him.

Wolf drew his blade, the calmness took hold as he rushed after Julias, intending to massacre those who had attempted to kill the group. Spears flying around, he could only hope one wouldn't pierce his head.

Jade acted on instinct; she dropped down, rolled, sprang back up and crouched as the sudden attack occurred. She tried to glance around and see if her companions (and Wolf) were alright, but there was little time to assess the situation. Mar had helped the young dragoon that had been struck first, and the man seemed to be alright. Moreover, his brethren seemed to take Mar's advice, and were quickly airborne with the hatchling. But some of them stayed behind, snarling as they drew their scythes and sought out their attacker. Though Zai's father had left with his son in his arms, another young dragoon that looked to be some close relative - an uncle, perhaps - was one of those that stayed. And this man seemed to be the one whose orders were to be followed now that the Clan Leader had taken off.

"Around the sides, sweep wide and see if you can catch whoever 'tis!" Jade shouted in the dracon tongue to this man as she drew her blade. He didn't bother arguing, merely nodded and snapped something out to the others. There were soon four dragoons racing away on either side, moving to try and catch the assailant in a swift pincer move.

Jade, both swords now at the ready, sprinted forward in the direction the spears had come from. It may not have been the wisest move, attacking an attacker, but Zaeken's Chosen had never been one to pause and carefully plot while in the heat of battle. But just as she was nearing what she was certain had to be the origin of the spears, something odd happened. The grass beneath her feet began to twist and writhe as though discomforted by her hasty steps across it. She stumbled once as a particularly long blade seemed to wrap around her ankle, but she righted herself, determined to reach her goal. It became increasingly difficult to run, however, and soon she became aware of an unusual hissing sound. Quite suddenly she found herself stuck, her feet grasped by the very ground and her knees buckling as something grabbed hold of them and dragged her down. She shouted in alarm as she struggled to get free, staring down in shock at what had so recently been grass. Now, she was stuck kneeling and fighting in a field of very small, thin, and powerful snakes that seemed to be sprouting from the ground...like blades of grass.

Jade had never seen such a transformation, but she was certain that it had to be some sort of strange magic. But there was no time to marvel.

"You'll be alright, just hold - what the devil is that?!" Gwen had been kneeling next to the wounded dragoon that Mar had assisted, preparing to quickly heal his punctured shoulder. She looked up at saw her mentor began dragged to the ground by what appeared to be writhing grass, and was understandably startled. This, coupled with the sight of Julias increasing in size and darkness...the whole evening was turning out to be a rather strange one indeed.

It seemed as if Lars had woken from a slumber. The world had changed; the Dragoon had arrived to retrieve the lost child. The man known as Wolf had returned during the slumber. What had happened? Lars looked towards the skies to see some flying away, and then he slowly lowered his great helm and glanced at the Dragoon warriors rushing off to the sides.

Once, twice the slate gray eyes blinked as he sought and found Jade. The warrior woman had her swords drawn and was dashing off towards the forest. The lethargy that gripped the corded limbs of the Myrmidon sloughed off as Lars drew his war sword and hefted his heater. His voice rang out among the rest of the clamor, “JADE!”

The legs of the knight flexed as he sought footing, then an explosion of power as the knight launched himself after the leader of the Chosen. Each step carried with it the shifting and muted clangs as the mail folded and rushed around itself with every action taken by the knight. The hooded tunic fluttered and billowed as the suddenness of action stirred it to life.

The light cascaded and scintillated from the great helm, splashing down and off the coiled chain armor around the arms and legs. The whorl of light reflected and hued brilliantly off the magical sword obtained by the Imp Mimi for Lars. The sound of alarm rising from Jade filled his ears as Lars pursued the path the woman had taken.

“Myra, great goddess, grant me peace and comfort in this battle! Guide my blade to the heart of those who would disturb the perfection of your gardens and all who seek solace in it.” Lars prayed as he leapt through the brush and found Jade entwined by a host of small snakes.

“Ods blood, what form or magic be this?” Lars snarled as he started hacking at the snakes that held Jade fast.

Mar ran past Lars, looking at Jade's pardicament, "Earth magic's! Natural will benders, watch your feet!" Mqar opened his wings and took flight, using his great blade to deflect the constant stream of javellin's bursting from the tree tops.

Spining quickly he dodged a few here, then there. But they were becomming more and more acurate, "Damn this all to boiling puss gutted Hell!" Mar roared as he searched with his keen eyes through the tree's to find the assailents. A spear clipped his shoulder, grazing a nice piece out of his armor. Stopping, mar sheethed his blade, and began moving his arms quickly forming the sign of Zaeken. Suddenly, fire erupted in both his palms, "Who ever you are, if don't stop acting like cowards, I burst the earth aflame, an incernerate you're pathetic exsistance!"

Aryn had simply looked on in silence as Wolf's history was explained to her, though most of it was indirectly. Her bright purple eyes were still slowly running over the man from head to toe when a commotion occured with the dragoon detachment. They were leaving, but one of their number had fallen from the skies, a spear-shaft protrudign from his body. She watched in shock as Mar rushed to the aid of the fallen warrior, and others ran to the offense. Julias glowed and swelled with a cloud of dark magic, the grass turned to snakes binding Jade, Lars exploded with light as he ran to battle, and it all happened almost too fast for her to react. Combat was not a situation she was used to enough to simply jump up and react at the drop of a pin. She did react, though, for despite the time it took for everything which was happening to register in her mind - a mere few seconds - all these events happened really quite suddenly, and without any ado whatsoever, she turned to face the danger, one slim hand reaching down to push her wide satchel back on her waist and out of her way. Her long, night-shaded robes fluttered slightly as she stretched out her other hand, fingers extended, calling the winds to her. She crouched down low, dropping to a single knee. It woudl be better if she didn't have to devote what limited energy she had to fending off spears directed towards herself; she could keep up her magic use for a significantly long time for so young a mage as herself, but she'd be exhausted afterward, and the more she used, the less time she could use it for. Getting a handle on all these winds was difficult; she'd summoned from a larger range than she usually worked with, and all the different directions could turn into a tempest if she wasn't careful with them, but she had to act fast, before her actions could harm any of the chosen. Sending the winds under her controll out ahead of them, towards the treeline where she was assuming their attackers were hiding, she waited until she had a good, strong wind blowing harshly through the forest, before sharply changing it's direction; downward. The winds slammed towards the earth with force that surprisede even Aryn, pressing down foliage and even snapping off a few dry twigs from the trees; having the weaker bushes and plants pinned to the ground by downdrafts a few yards into the wood made it easier to see into it, but she wasn't sure how long she coudl keep it up.

"Lars!" Jade exclaimed as the Myrmidon appeared and began an attempt to free her. She, too, began hacking away at the tiny snakes that had sprung up from nowhere, growling her frustration as yet more appeared to take their brothers' places. Mar had flown up above head and was trying to call out the enemy, but whoever it was remained silent. "Ods blood indeed, this is bloody impossible!"

Finally, between Lars and Jade, the Chosen's leader was freed enough to rise back to her feet and kick off the snake bits that had returned to their grassy forms once removed from the ground. Feeling much more confident now, with Lars at her side, Mar swooping above them, and a small crew of dragoons approaching their enemy from either side, Jade began running once more for what she assumed to be the enemy's hiding spot.

"Renmith, can you help them while I take care of this one?" Gwen asked her furry companion, who had grown to his full size at the first sign of danger, as she remained bent over next to the wounded dragoon.

"Of course," Renmith replied rather curtly as he launched off after the Chosen who were trying to reach their hidden foe.

Jade looked up to Mar, intent on calling for him to follow through on his threat and roast whoever was performing the attacks, but before she could there came a sudden rustling from the dense bushes that were now so heavily surrounded. And in an explosion of dried leaves, two figures emerged with eyes that gleamed out from under their hoods like bright yellow spots of poison. Both were clad in dark red robes, and both hand their hands raised in claw-like positions, each finger tip blackened as though it were being drained of life with the very effort of continuing the heavy charms that were giving the Chosen so much trouble. One of them snapped his arm upwards and to the left, sending an unbalancing gust of wind in Mar's direction. The other flicked his wrist towards Lars and Jade, causing the earth to rise up and shoot towards the pair in a flurry of rock and root.

The forested area had apparently provided cover for an ambush, which was happening now. The spears had stopped, but now Jade had been trapped in place by the grass becoming snakes. Attempting to rush to her, Wolf then noticed that Lars would take care of the job.

He finally did something during my stay.

Suddenly two figures burst from the trees and assualted the three. Mars getting possibly blown away and Jade and Lars having a mini earthquake happen to them. With a growl of rage, Wolf rushed the attackers, shouting:

"You bastards! To cowardly to fight? I'll slay you myself!"

Words aside, Wolf then almost reached them, raising his longsword to dig it into one's neck.

Even as the rock and roots speed towards them, Lars was already in motion. Leaping forward the Myrmidon landed next to the diminutive warrior, as he did so his left arm swung around the lithe form of Jade. The kite shaped heater whirled and blocked her body from the rushing debris. Even as the shock of the impact struck the metal barrier, Lars felt the rest of the oncoming mass strike his body.

The crunch of the chain mail as the incredible pressure slammed into Lars filled the air, knocking him back and to the ground, his shield sailed over the leader of the Chosen as the arm flailed to help maintain balance. Landing on his back, momentarily stunned, Lars groaned as he blinked a few times. Realizing that the magus were still up and active, the knight rolled to his right, and pushed himself up wobbly. Standing a moment Lars dropped to a knee as an incredible pain lanced through his frame. He had broken ribs, he was sure of that. Blinking back a tear of pain, the steel gray eyes glanced up at the figure of Jade.

“Goddess…give me strength. Give me strength.” He whispered through clenched teeth as he forced himself upright. Raising his shield again into the ready position, Lars leveled the war sword at the creatures before them. Stepping forward he grunted with pain yet continued on until he was again standing next to Jade. As his foot planted he assumed a classic Myrmidon rear guard stance. The light flickered and flared off the battered shield, the scintillating light cascaded off the brow and face of the great helm.

Spitting some blood as he spoke, “Magi, do you have any words to tell Myra when you see her? Perhaps you should think upon that.” With that Lars’ lungs exploded as the air ripped from him in a war cry, any who had faced the Myrmidon in battle would have heard it before. The war sword swirled from its position and slammed into the shield, once, twice and a third time before assuming its previous place behind and angled downward.

MAr roared in annoyance as was sent spirraling through the air when the gale hit him. Regaining his flight, he flew quickly over where Jade stood, he could not see what she was looking at, but apparently, they had caused trouble for her and Lars as well. Aryn was working up her mistchif, Julias was growing with darkness, and Gwen was tending to the wonded. With an open hand he drew his blade, in the other he resummoned his inferno. Retracting his wings, Mar came crashing through the canopy, landing next to Lars. "You cowards! Try out this!" Mar shot forth his magical blaze hoping to cook the assailents on the spot.

The mysterious robed figure whom Wolf approached snarled and flung one hand upwards in a defensive manner, and just as quickly as he moved a branch swept out from one of the nearest trees and shielded the being from beheading by Wolf's blade. But the mage was in no wise interested in giving Wolf a chance to right his weapon and try again, and as such he lifted both cupped hands and created for himself a pillar of stone from the earth already beneath his feet, tall enough that he was out of immediate danger from the warriors' swords below. But Mar was still a problem.

As the enchanted flame shot towards the pair, the one on the ground twisted to the side in an attempt to avoid it, but the one on the pillar had little room to maneuver. He roared out in agony as his robe caught fire, making quick work of his left arm and shoulder. He patted himself down, hissing in pain while attempting to keep his attention on the Siblings' warriors.

"Lars!" Jade shouted once more as she, who had been taken by surprise that bracing herself for the oncoming attack had been unnecessary with the Myrmidon's protection, watched Myra's servant fall. Her heart launched itself into her throat, and her anger flared up brighter than ever towards the two strangers that had seen fit to attack them. To her great relief, Lars managed to rise back up to his feet, and even returned to her side able enough to issue a powerful challenge to the mages. Though she would have dearly liked to stop and check his health, now simply was not the time for such luxuries. She would have to be content in preventing him from coming to further harm, and knowing that Gwen would see to his wounds later.

The second mage, still on the ground level with Wolf, Renmith, Lars and Jade, took a shuffling step back and reached into the folds of his robe for something. He snickered spitefully, the yellow swirls of his eyes seething out of the darkness towards the Chosen. "Fools! You lost this battle the moment you so unwisely chose to side with the selfish Four! There is no hope, no peace, any success you trick yourselves into believing you have achieved is but a pathetic illusion!"

"I can't say I have any idea what the devil you're rambling about, but 'tis mere useless drivel at this point, lad," Jade snapped right back, deflecting another flying rock with the flat of her blade. "You've stirred up a hornet's nest, you and your mate!"

Before the red-clad intruder could reply, the dragoons that had swept around to he and his companion's sides flooded into the area with an earth shattering collective roar. Without so much as a challenge, the remnants of little Zai's rescue party emit a smattering of raspy inhales, and then breathed out as one in an eruption of flame. The two mages hollered and began waving their arms furiously in what looked to be a desperate attempt to bat away the massive wall of fire, but soon became apparent as their necessary actions to keep the flames at bay. And now, they were in a difficult spot. If they ceased their focus and mad wavings around, the fiery breath of the dragoons would roast them alive. But if they did not, then they would be left standing there unprotected from the angered Chosen who stood only feet away. Much as they were now.

Aryn stood from her low position when the mates were forced out of their cover in the woods. She figured that her help would be more useful in closer combat, but holding so very much power in submission was wearing her thin already, and the strain showed on her face as she tried to let some of it go without turning the whole field this confrontation was happening in into one large hurricane. Foolish of her to grab that much power at once, it was close to being more than she could handle - dangerously close. Slowly reducing the amount of wind under her command to something closer to reasonable, she sent it whirling around their enemies in a sort of whirlwind. Not powerful enough to carry them away, but enough to be sure they wouldn't be just running off without a fight against the winds, either.
