FDNY: Burnout [OOC + Profiles] ( )

Postby CriminalMinds on Fri Jul 10, 2009 12:53 pm

Firefighter's Prayer

When I am called to duty, God,
wherever flames may rage,
give me strength to save a life,
whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child
before it is too late,
or save an older person from
the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert,
and hear the weakest shout,
quickly and efficiently
to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling,
to give the best in me,
to guard my friend and neighbor,
and protect his property.
And if according to Your will
I must answer death's call,
bless with Your protecting hand,
my family one and all.

Amen.

Plot

Being a fire fighter isn't an easy job, especially with other people's lives depend on you and when you go in to rescue someone, you don't know if they'll end up dead or alive by the end. Not only do they have the work trauma, but they have their own personal lives as well. It's a difficult situation, a hard job and for these fire fighters it's no different. The New York Fire Department are just as busy as most stations. They are busier than ever this time around though. An arsonist is on the lose creating havoc on the streets of New York and people are getting hurt. They might be haled as heroes universally, but when they have dead bodies in front of them how can they see themselves as a hero?

Paige Carpenter will become the latest victim of the arson attack which will kill her fiancé. A kindergarten teacher at the age of twenty three, at Battery Park City Nursery, she doesn't realise how fire fighters will come to change her life and make her realise that there is life after death. But was her accident linked to the recent arson attacks? And, do the fire fighters manage to solve the case?

The Rules

1. No God Modding.
2. SatoDraygonFIST{Tas} is co-GM to this roleplay so what we say goes. We will be discussing who gets accepted and everything.
3. Please be literate. No text talk. Try to use proper spelling and grammar, posting a couple of paragraphs rather than a couple of lines.
4. No one liners.
5. This is the OOC thread. All OOC is to stay in this thread and none in the IC thread.
6. Have a question? PM me or post it here.
7. Active players. I have no internet at home, but I can get internet access in the day at least twice for an hour or so. If you're going to be away and not able to post, let us know. Igf you want to drop out, let us know and we can arrange something, but please, don't just disappear.
8. Respect other players. If someone in the roleplay doesn't like a lot of swearing then keep it to a minimum please. Romance can happen, though I'm not looking for romance to be an active part in the story and if for some reason it heads that way and you want more, take it to PM's. Violence is the same. Don't be unrealistic with it.
10. Have fun.

Character Sheets

Please reserve a character first if you can't get your sheet up straight away. This avoids all the spaces been taken before you post your profile to find that you can't be that character. This will make things easier hopefully.

Can't wait for the banter between our characters!

Mine is named Bryce 'Zuvie' Zuverink. I've got the skeleton all done out, but I want to make it a bit more detailed and get a decent pic.
GREEN: THE MOVIE

When 18-year-old Max Fenton's skin turns bright green,
he must balance sudden stardom with his destructively dysfunctional family.

Green is a 10-minute short film written by YOURS TRULY, being produced by Tribeca Flashpoint Studios, LLC.

Name: Bryce 'Zuvie' Zuverink

Age: 26

Gender: Male

Character to be Played: Level-headed.

Appearance: On first glance, Zuvie looks like a young lion. He's lean and lanky with an almost permanent mane of blond stubble. The other guys on the ladder can tell who he is when on scene because of his loping stride. Average height, medium build. When off-duty, Zuvie goes with a dress shirt and khakis. Who says guys have to be fashion don'ts?

Personality: Zuvie's a fairly quiet guy. He hides his acerbic wit behind a cup of coffee and a wry smile. He's rarely seen without a small red bouncy ball that he hits off walls, off ceilings, off people. It always comes back to his hand, though.

Background: "I'm Brooklyn born and bred, the youngest of a tight brood of five. It's hard to tell my brothers stories about what I do, because they still remember a time when they could drag me to school by, like, my ear. Dad is a lawyer in upstate New York, Mom passed away when Brian and I were born. He's two minutes my elder, and likes to crash at my place when his on and off again girl friend throws him out."

"I don't drink. I don't smoke. I play the straight guy to most of my friends, and they know by now not to press the issue. It might be because my twin brother is a recovering alcoholic without a house and without a job, but I'm pretty close-mouthed about stuff like that."

"The other brothers have moved up and out with their families. One is in Nashville, another is tucked safely in a little South Dakota burb--honestly I don't know the name. The last one is taking up Daddy's shoes and does malpractice suits in Los Angeles. Yep. The Zuverink clan have pretty much all grown up. Except Brian."

Other: Zuvie's reflexes are maddening. The others guy on the ladder have taken to throwing things at him without warning and without preamble, just to see if he can snag them from the air. he can.

Name:
Paige Carpenter
Age:
22
Gender:
Female
Character to be Played:
The girl
Appearance:
Paige has naturally blonde hair. The only one in her family to which she gets from the mothers side of the family. Her eyes are a mixture of blue and grey tending to be blue in the summer and grey in the winter. Paige has pale skin which only burns in the sun, never tanning, which she complains about, though in a joking manner. At around 5'6 she is around average and also at the average weight. She has meat to her bones her bones giving her a nice set of curves.
Paige can be seen wearing anything from jeans to skirts to dresses, though admittedly she feels best and most comfortable in jeans. For work she tends to wear black trousers with a white shirt to look professional at least whereas when she's at home with Ryan she's either wearing jeans, a t-shirt and one of Ryan's hoodies, or just a t-shirt of Ryan's (of a morning and night).
Personality:
Paige is nice, but stubborn. She has a level head on her shoulders and often makes good decisions. Been a kindergarten teacher though, she has to be sensible and level-headed as people place kids under her watch, and trust her with them. She is a good teacher, with a kind and calming nature as well as been patient, something that is also needed when looking after kids.
Despite her apparent niceness though, she does have an argumentative side. This is normally shown with Ryan, her fiancé. Both been stubborn and always believing they are right, they don't back down to one another, but find themselves always making up afterwards.
Background:
Paige grew up in New York City, but when to college in California where she met Ryan. She spent 4 years (one as a gap) studying to teach. Ryan was there studying to be a lawyer and finally. Ryan and Paige met the first week of their first year, been opposites of each other and coincidently meeting at a party where Ryan was almost passed out, and Paige was stone cold sober. In the end she had to look after him and after that, they were inseparable, and still to this day.
After finishing college, Paige and Ryan moved into an apartment in New York to be closer to Paige's family. Paige settled into a job at a kindergarten around 5 months ago whereas Ryan is looking at joining the police force while holding a small job in the mean time. They are currently moving to a bigger apartment a couple of blocks away that is bigger than the one they're in now.
Other:
Fiancé is Ryan McClaney

Re: NYFD: Burnout [OOC + Profiles] ( )

Postby Imehal on Sat Jul 11, 2009 11:45 am

Well, here we go!

Name: Harriet “Harry” Baker

Age: Twenty-One.

Gender: Female

Character to be Played: The Greenhorn (God help me!)

Appearance:
There are not many people that would define Harriet as pretty and neither would she, her always swept back raven hair making her look far too severe, giving her already pointed features a sharp edge that isn’t helped even when she smiles. Her eyes are a muddy brown colour and her nose rather thin, which strikes as odd against her lips, which are quite full and a good pink. Harriet stands at about 5’8” and is of a lithe build, which comes partly from her parents and the rest from a daily exercise routine that occupies most of her free time. All in all, a rather average looking person, the only extraordinary feature about her appearance being a rather long scar going down her left eye, though now is a small silver line.

As for dress sense, it’s safe to say that Harriet’s belongs in another age, as when she’s not fighting fires, she tends to wear very medieval or renaissance clothing which earns her more than a few stares from people in the street and is one of the things that the guys first picked up on at the fire station. The eccentric girl came into the fire station for her interview dressed in a cream long sleeved shirt, deep red bodice and full length black skirt, and coming into work everyday dressed in another unconventional outfit and it is a well-known fact that Harriet owns no jeans or trousers, only skirts and dresses.

Personality:
Although Harriet’s dress sense gives off the appearance of a girly-girl, you couldn’t be further from the mark with Harriet Baker, who’d much prefer to be fighting fires or exercising than taking trips to the mall with her girlfriends, which are remarkably few in number. Despite this, she is remarkably good at cooking and baking, taking pride in those skills as well as her ability to maintain a tidy home with a demanding job.

Harriet’s pride stops there however, her sense of self-worth incredibly distorted for a multitude of reasons, the most recent being the death of a young boy in a fire that they had been too late to save. Her sense of humour is quite common, meaning that although she would ordinarily find Joker’s behaviour amusing, she cannot find it in her to find it as funny when it’s aimed at her directly.

However all that becomes background noise when it comes to Harriet and her friends, whom she would protect with her words and actions until her last breath, abandoning her own self-worth and instead piling it onto her opinion of her friends and those around her. Then she is not a quiet person, her strength being in her conviction that she exists on this world to protect those she loves and save those she does not know.

Background:
Throughout her life, Harriet has found that there are two types of fire fighters. On one hand you have those who have lost family or friends to fires, thereafter pledging their dedication to saving others from the same pain; the other is much more subtle and is the type that Harriet is. It was not something she wanted to be as a child. No, then she had ideas about being a mechanic or something equally masculine, much to her parents’ distress. Harriet found herself drawn to the fire fighting profession only three years ago, brought to the realisation after a fire broke out on her street, trapping a young mother and her little baby inside. Instead of running inside and desperately trying to rescue the trapped individuals, she waited outside anxiously, stepping aside quickly as the fire fighters arrived.

As Harriet had watched the rescue go through successfully, Harriet found herself wanting to be someone would could do active good in the community, as she had never had the smarts to make it into University and watching the fire fighters go fearlessly into the burning house gave her the drive to become a person who would risk their own life to save others.

Originally, it had been hard to get her parents to agree to her career choice, especially as she was only eighteen. Resolute, Harriet pleaded with her parents to go to America to life with her uncle, who was a fire fighter and discover herself. Reluctantly, her parents agreed and she made the trip across from England to America with the promise of an apprentice job with her uncle’s fire fighting team in Virginia. Sadly, as Harriet soon found out, the reality wasn’t as nice as what she had been that day, the horrific reality almost too much for Harriet at first. But she battled through, reinventing herself through the nickname of Harry, allowing herself to believe that her new self could stand the nightmares to know that she had saved lives that day. It was only after the death of her uncle in a rescue attempt that Harry moved to New York, desperate for a new start away from the pitying eyes that haunted her in her uncle’s small town, pitying her for her loss.

The six months that Harriet has spent with the fire fighters in New York have been tough, her status as the ‘newbie’ still not being shaken off, mostly due to her inability to move on pass her uncle’s death, causing her to make mistakes and her own eccentric nature.

Other:
Harry is English and despite spending three years in America, constant calls with her family back home and their visits over to America have allowed her to keep her distinct Sussex originated English accent, although some words have started to gain a American inflection to them. Occasionally her English heritage allows the joking made of her to be easier, as she doesn’t completely know everything about American phrases or words just yet.

It is also possible that she has a crush on one of the firemen, but even when the men discovered that she did, she has still refused to say who, even after three months.
