((I was waiting for Rose Lyn, but I guess perhaps she was waiting for me... anyway, sorry for the lapse in posts.))
"Not at all," Vireo said. "Kalia and I were in Bhujerba when an old chap offered a hefty sum for transportation here, to Rabanastre. Profit is profit, and we take it where we can get it in this business." He placed a finger on his chin thoughtfully. "And how about you, my friend? Where are you 'drifting' towards?"
It seemed Soki and the Ladreduns had at least one thing in common after all. As sort of a joke, Vireo added, "For a very modest fee, I could take you there. Wherever 'there' happens to be." He winked at Soki.
Vireo looked away to a short, stocky waiter as he approached the table. "Ah, here we are," he said. "A small bottle of your finest wine for me and my friend." He ruffled Kalia's hair. "And something a tad less... hard for the little one here. Oh, and I'll have cockatrice eggs and toast to eat."
He realized that wine with breakfast might seem a little out of the ordinary, but where Vireo came from it was not a rare practice, especially on social occasions. He turned his head to look back at the one who had so graciously shared his table. "I don't think you introduced yourself, sir."
O heart, lament not, for this world is only metaphorical.
O soul, grieve not, for this abode is only transient.
