Re: Flight of the Banshee ( )

The Nerthen was in port in a matter of minutes. Captain Erick Frost was already standing in port, with his escort of his own soldiers staring down at the rag-tag bunch that the Blemish sent to monitor him. He could almost laugh, they were a pitiful bunch, from a military stand point. Most of them had parts of tactical equipment, maybe a old Kevlar vest that barley fit them any more. But they did have one advantage over Erick and his two men. Numbers. There was about seven of them all with some type of fire arm whether it was a small pistol or a rifle. Erick smiled at them and said, "Gentlemen. I am searching for a two fugitives, one is the captain of a vessel, the Banshee and the other the captain of the Temperance. Would you be able to show me to either one?"

"The Banshee has made port here" said one man, stepping forward. He had a sergeants strips on his shirt sleeve. "But I doubt that First Citizen John O'Keefe is going to be willing to see you" he continued ,"As for the Temperance, we've never had her in port."
The sergeant made a motion with his hand and the squad fell into a flacking position around Erick and his men. They led him on a semi-forced march to the docking clamp the Banshee was attached to.

S'varish grunted as the Captain piled in on top of him, "Captain, are we going to get out of this in once piece?" He asked softly as he waited, his hand resting against his heavy bolter. His heart pounding rapidly in his chest, realizing he was panicking he began the breathing exercises that all warriors were taught.

Somewhere out there lay a pair of Confederate warships and they were trapped in a small space trying to hide from them. Even if they were passed over in the sweep that was sure to come, how could they expect to out run the ships. Al they had to do was hover outside of Blemish territorial space and they could pounce. If the Blem fleet interfered there they would be the aggressors and subject to what ever military might the Confederacy deemed satisfactory to resolve the incident. Clearly coming here had been a blessing for the Banshee and a possible curse for the people of Blem.

June was quiet for a moment, either ignoring or thinking deeply on S'varish's question. There was silence except for the quiet beating of hearts and the shuffle and bustle outside the door. Then her grin flashed in the dark.

"If I knew the answer to that question, I'd honestly tell you, S'varish. But I just don't know. Odds are, they'll leave you alone. Me, however, they're more likely to chain up and take me off to some Confederate doctor's guild or something to poke around in my brain for government secrets and whatnot. Maybe I should start thinking dirty thoughts for them to find and get a shock out of." She chuckled very softly, eyes drifting to the dim layer of light that could be seen through the tarp, through the window.

"But if we're superbly lucky...maybe we won't have to worry about that. Maybe they'll just putz around outside, trying to pick at John's ego until he blows up and they run with their tails between their legs." Her soft musings sounded muffled, almost silenced by the darkness.

Aboard the Sleipnir the Captain toggled the general channel, "Power down all non-essential systems, weapons power down to minimal. CIC go passive sensors in three, two , one...now. We are now running silent. We will deploy a sensor drone with our signature and drift leeward. Repeat we are running silent."

As the crew went about their duties, all communication was done by hand signals. The ship shuddered slightly as the sensor pod launched out into space, broadcasting the signal report of the Sleipnir.

The warship drifted on the course it had begun when it swung under the Nerthen.

First citizen John O'Keefe. The words rang about Erick's head as he, his men, and his seven or so Blemish escorts made their way down a grayish corridor. Each of their footsteps echoed, and almost no other sound could be heard, it was as if no one else was on the station but them. Eventually the group 'rounded a corner and met with a few people, they were standing about looking at a Docking Air-lock. The group suddenly stopped and one of the Blemish Escorts said, "Here he is." And stepped back to join the others. Both the people and the Escorts eyed Erick wearily. But it did not bother him. He was there for one thing, Captain John O'Keefe.

Erick took a deep breath and stepped up to the airlocks computer and pressed a few keys, sending a message to John that he had visitors. Erick's two soldiers took up flanking positions on the door and awaited, along with Erick and the crowd of Blemish.

"You have guests Captain" chimed the Banshee's computer, softly so not to wake Rose.
"Who" asked John, stroking Rose's head as she slept peacefully.
"Your favorite Confederate captain" chimed the Banshee's computer.
"Great" groaned John, getting up. He could hear Rose toss and groan in her sleep. She had always suffered worse then other of her kind when sleeping alone. It pained John's heart to leave her now. He ran down to the airlock and opened it.
"What do you want now?" he growled.

It only took a few minutes for captain John O'Keefe to answer Erick's call. John's growling figure appeared in the airlock, "What do you want now?" Erick put on his sincerest smile and took one step closer to the airlock, just encase he had to stop John from closing the door.

"Captain. It is nice to see you again." Erick said, "Last time our visit was.... interrupted..." he put emphasis on interrputed, he could not prove that John had anything to do with the rioting, after all he was staring him in the face when the distress call arrived. But never the less Erick had the nagging suspicion that John had caused it. "Now, if I may. I would like to finish that search I started, simply procedure.. captain. I have to finish it or the officials will come down hard on me." It was another lie, two Erick counted, he had lied twice in under an hour.

"Fine" growled John. He had replaced the floor panels so no blood would be found and the crate was safely hidden. 'But just you and no goons" he added, stepping out of the way. He nodded to the militia, four of them stepped in between Erick and his marines.

Re: Flight of the Banshee ( )

June had to fight the urge to heave an aggravated sigh. All this waiting around to either be caught, arrested and mangled or for the Confederates to give up was so...so...boring. June was more of a fist to the face, bullet in the throat kind of individual when it came to dealing with problems. Yet here she was, cramped in a small container with her highest quality crewman, waiting for John's trouble to blow over so she could get out and get on with life. So boring.

But suddenly, things became a mite more interesting. She heard the door to the garage open, and her breath caught in her throat. There were boot shod foot clunking around, moving with a purpose. As though their owners were looking for something. She heard the mutterings of what she could easily assume to be soldiers, likely here against their will and thinking that it was a waste of time to be where they were. Hopefully, they weren't very determined to search.

S'varish eased himself a little, uncomfortable by the confined quarters, sliding one of his truncheons from it's sheath he became aware of it pressing against the bum of the Captain, "Pardon me Captain, it is not what you think." S'varish murmured as he reached around and handed the weapon to her.

Pulling the other he whispered in soft measured tones, "If we must strike, strike quickly, then leave. I shall place the bodies away, you merely walk away Captain." Exhaling softly, the expelled breath sounded like the hiss of venomous snakes.

"Pardon me Captain, it is not what you think." June accepted the truncheon that S'varish offered her, fighting the urge to laugh.

"That's alright, S'varish. Somehow I doubt my skin is blue enough for your taste." She murmured right back to him, listening intently as pieces of junk were tossed and shoved to the side in a half hearted search effort. Clearly, these were not the most devoted of soldiers.

"If we must strike, strike quickly, then leave. I shall place the bodies away, you merely walk away Captain."

June paused, listening as she Confederates began to complain again about their fruitless search. "Alright. But only if you agree to take off if I get nabbed by our dear members of the working class over there."

Erick was just about to raise his hand to order his soldiers in when four militia stept in front of them. It did not matter, two searches had turned up nothing, all be them brief but sufficient. This time Erick had came to ask for the location of the Temperance's owner.

"Yes, Alright Captain I shall come alone." Erick started and looked over the shoulders of the four militia to his soldiers, "Go search for... Our second.. suspect." It wouldn't be wise to mention the temperance flat out, at least not out in the open corridor.

John watched the Marines walk away. As Erick entered the Banshee, John sealed the hatch after him. "Now then" he said, "Just what the hell do you want? You've chased me acrossed the stars and out of Confederate space, for what?" His hand rested on his belt.

The loud hiss of the closing air lock sounded out behind Erick when he stepped inside the Banshee once again. "Ah Captain, yes I do believe I have been a bit.. troublesome. No matter to you anymore, well that is if you can tell me something."

Erick eyed John and continued a few seconds after, ".. I would like you to direct me to the Temperance, I believe you have had some contact with the vessel in the recent past. Direct me there, and you no longer have to worry about me any longer. I can assure you of that." Erick wondered what John would say, Erick already had a suspicion the captain of the Temperance was here somewhere, that was why he sent his guards to search. But it was not the captain he wanted, but the ship. If he could only board the Temperance un-detected, of course this was illegal, and search for whatever high command wanted so badly, he could head home finally.

"I have no clue as to the location of the Temperance" said John, His voice rising with each word, "We parted ways at our last port. You were there, you saw us part. I know she was taking cargo to some refinery in Protectorate space. Did you really chase me half way round known space to ask me where the Temperance was head? Why not follow her and not scare my Rheam half to death?"

John stood there, his arm crossed his chest. He took deep breaths through his nose and stared down at Erick.

June was holding her breath now, waiting and waiting and waiting. Oh, how she hated waiting. But there she was, stuck in a small area with her best crewman, waiting. The sounds of the guards grew closer, until she could hear their breaths between their muttered words. The waiting continued.

Erick reached a hand over to his pistol and rested it there, "Captain. You are saying the captain was aboard her vessel this whole time?" Erick said, "No. We knew there was no one of importance aboard the Temperance when it parted ways with the Banshee. Captain we are sure she is here. And since you cannot simply give me the location of her ship. I ask you where she is?"

Erick did not know what type of response this would revoke, it was already clear that John was angry. Perhaps this would push him over the edge? Erick thought. Just in case of that Erick stepped back a step or two, to make room for a quick draw of his pistol, if need be.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The two soldiers left quickly at the order from their Superior. And nearly at a jogging pace until they were out of eye-sight from the crowd. One of them pressed a small button concealed in the side of his helmet that shot his visor back up, revealing his face, he must have been young maybe only 18 years of age. "Christ, how does he suspect us to find, 'Our second suspect'!" He nearly shouted, the other took down his visor as well and grinned, which seemed to stretch the scar on his chin.

"Don't let the captain hear you speak like that." The scared soldier nearly chuckled, noting the obvious greenness of his partner, "Lets jut poke around here and there, then say we couldn't find 'em." The young soldier nodded his head and shot his visor back up. The scared soldier followed his example. A few minutes later found them at a garage door, entering the two soldiers split off and began rummaging through a few odds and ends. Not looking for a human really, just looking around until they could head back.

No words passed between the pair as they combed the area over, slowly making their way to the back. Where a row of transportation pods lined the wall.

"No I can not" John said forcefully, "Last I knew, Captain Wolfe had fired her two engineers and was heading for Protectorate Space. Now Get Of My Ship!" He raised his hand as if to strike and nearly smashed the hatch control. The airlock slide open with a hiss. John was really laying the anger act on thick, hoping to do two things; one get Erick off in fear for his physical self and to convince Erick he was telling the true. He had found out that angry people almost always said things they didn't mean too.

As John reached up, Erick almost drew his pistol but stopped as John's hand hit the hatch control. He left the Banshee, don't completely trusting what John had said and was escorted back to his ship. His soldiers were found my the militia and also returned to his ship.

John took a deep breath and steaded himself. As soon as Erick was off his ship, John placed a closed channel call to a friend and made a deal. He then walked down to the drop bay the Zulu was in.The airlock hatch opened with a hiss. "June" he called, "It's John." He looked around, pulling a tarp off a pile of old engine parts. There was June and S'varish.

"I'm sorry" he said, pulling June to her feet, "For every thing, for every single mistake and stupid thing I've ever said or done. They were looking for you. I've made arrangements. Get in the Zulu and seal the cockpit. A ore barge will be going under us in six minutes. It will take you to the edge of the system, then you can go get the Temperance. I'll draw them off after me."

John drew a deep breath and quickly kissed June. "The bay door locks" he said, running towards the airlock hatch, "Depressurizes in five and opens in six. Good luck." The hatch sealed behind him.

S'varish just watched the humans. A faint smile crossed his lips, he knew there was more to the couple than they tried to project. Holstering his truncheons he waited patiently for the order to move forward to the destination. S'varish still had an uneasy feeling about the whole situation, there was another Confederate ship out there in the deeps of space, lurking.

That captain frightened S'varish, he was good and experienced. Not a lackey, but a deadly adversary. Sighing S'varsh shook his head, he had hired on as crewman, certainly he had expected trouble, but this was far beyond anything he had expected and to be honest...he loved it.
