Formalities ( )

Postby .dot on Sat Sep 13, 2008 3:58 am

Formalities is a waste of time. For all you newbies, just start rping. No one will realy talk to you after this. There is no making friends just creating works of art. making a topic just to get noticed is just a way to get noticed. You will thank me now for bursting your bubbles.

Actually, newbies are supposed to post in the Welcome desk. Welcome desk, it's in the name. Role-players are more likely to take somebody more seriously if they have more than 1 or two posts with no intro.
An intro isn't compulsory, but it is nice.

I'm screaming I love you so

But my thoughts you can't decode.

I'm going to guess he made an introduction, and didn't get the response he was looking for.

Well!
Actaully, I would like to burst YOUR bubble and let you know that we do welcome newbies here and we're all nice. If you just came from Gaia, (which you're certainly acting like it) this is a complete turn around.
But welcome anyway, mine name is Forky, and if you ever need any help, I'll be happy to comply.

I always thought it was a bit odd when new members simply jump in on conversation without first saying hello and introducing themselves. It's somewhat like if you're out in public with friends and all of a sudden, someone you don't know comes up to you and starts adding to the conversation. By introducing yourself first, you give other members a chance to get to know you a bit and to form a first impression. Many times, people will remember a person by the information they included in their introduction thread (given that they spoke about themselves and their interests). I don't think it's a waste of time at all. It's a decent and polite thing to do when first joining a new message board.

To all of the above, By making a wellcome desk allowes trolling. Also Gaia is dumb. I came from a smaller rp forum. I'm currently still there also http://www.varsinax.com. So you fail with that gaia crap. Also Formalities is just people trying to get noticed befor rping. I would rather see rp and no ooc. I also would recommand getting a spell check for this site.

It's good manners to introduce yourself, not attention seeking. The mods are doing a great job. Proper trolling is something like;
OMG DIS SITE SUX. UR R ALL F******, GO **** OFF YA *******. I HOP U ALL DIE.
They get locked and deleted in a few minutes.
People attention seek in the chat. It's quite funny sometimes.
Excuse me if I'm wrong, but don't the majority of good internet browsers have a spellchecker? Safari has one, the last time I was on IE it had one, not 100% on Firefox though. So there is little or no case for Remæus to get a spellchecker for the site.
Oh, and I'd watch this board. People see this and they mightn't want to rp with someone who disagrees with introductions.

I don't know what's the big problem with making introductory posts, and I don't see any reason for it not to be used on any site. I, myself, love the intro posts people make. It helps people meet each other and helps make a community much closer.

I'm with Ken.
And making people feel welcomed is more or less an unoffical job of some of the people here, aka, myself, so you having a probelm with intros seems to be an attack on myself.
No one said you had to post an intro thread anyway, if you thought they were dumb.

introductions.

That is not Trolling, as interesting as that was.

As my opinion goes, this site is not bad. I dislike any formalities.

This site does not have decent trollers. what you have run into have been flammers.

Not this site. Others.
I do explore a vast range of websites. The trolling I have come across does generally sound like that.
As [b]my opinion[/i] goes, I consider it a nice, polite and decent thing to do. You could be the best role-player in the world, but I would only respect them if they gave a good intro.

Interesting views.

Like I daid most of the trolling you have seen is just a common flammers trying to pull of what a troller is.

See a troller is a type of person who does not doun-grade you but tries helping. We come off as a dick/flammers. Wich is also interesting. But i'm a decnt Troller, I will not troll unless a members gives me a reason. This formality topic was based apon my opinion. I will state this, if you find me being to harsh or out of hand let me know I will try to be nicer as a troll.

This topic is now closed.

Wrong. A troll is someone who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument.

A flame is dishing out your opinion without sugar coating it. The flame often sounds offensive. It can be meant to make someone aware of a flaw and help him/her with it. But the term itself does not indicate the intention behind the message.

Your reason for this 'troll', is pretty much, well, pathetic. There's a welcome desk, so what? There's a separate sub-forum for high-school RP's and a ton of RP's in it which make me want to scratch my eyes out, would you like to troll all of those to 'teach' the TC' and participants something? I doubt so.

The troll itself, well it's had a pretty decent effect, is kinda poor. You basically attack all the people posting introduction topics, which is, er, probably around 90% of the active community, while the idea of a troll is having two groups opposing each other and doing little of the arguing yourself; the sit-back-and-enjoy-idea. Now, at first I thought, report and ignore, which is what I did. But afterwards, curiosity got the better of me and seeing that last message of yours, I couldn't resist posting.

Ah well, you learn something everyday don't you?
Look down and see her ruined places
Smoke and ash still rising to the sky
She's happy that you're here but when you disappear
She won't know that you're gone to say goodbye

LOL!! Well done Kestrel.

I've seen worst trolls but XD, god that makes me laugh.

Anyways, all forms of Trolling are against site rules. If you continue to troll, you'll be removed despite how much you "like" this place.

I've already seen you do a bit in a few dead topics, and egg on other members in other topics "just because." Knock it off.

Stop whining about welcome topics. Regardless of what YOU may think, welcome boards are one of the main functions of a forum. It helps newbies get a feel on the board by the reactions of the older crew.

AND despite your experiences on the net, it IS possible to make life long friends. OOC stays because we are suppose to have INTERACTION. Like duh? If you want a non-personal forum, well um sorry?
