A Forum for you Writers ( )

Postby Ace Darkfire on Mon Jul 09, 2007 6:15 pm

That's right, the "Writing Prompt" (Look under the community subsection) is for those of you who have creative writing talent and the urge (or need) to show it to people who are like minded.

Fanfiction, Original, poetry, lyrics etc. Just keep it PG-13.

Um... isn't that what Growth is for? That's what it's been used for anyway...

*shrugs* Iono, it really seems like a place to get tips on how to improve as a Role Player mostly, with Writing [Fanfiction, Poetry, Lyrics] as a secondary concern - and for the most part, those who do want to write and just show off their works might be a touch confused by the name "Growth" and what the description offers.

Just curious but, are there any moderators or anyone in particular who actually knows enough about literature to properly critique things posted in the Writers section of the boards? I mean, I see a few regular posters, but hardly anyone to critique the submissions. o_o

Then there's the noticeable lack of activity within' this part of the boards. Why? What happened to all of it? =(

Yeah, I really didn't know where to post this and I didn't want to start another topic that would take up useless space. =o

Firstly, it isn't the moderator's job to handle critiques. Their role is to moderate discussion.

I also tend to disagree, I've seen a lot of activity in this forum in the past couple months. It seems like a lot of people are posting their work; what leads you to believe that it is inactive?

It is inactive to the point that: Nobody critiques. Like, I've seen a few that have within' a two month time-span and it is generally those few that do so. I mean, the best people get when asking for a critique is, "I liked it." which isn't critiquing or helpful at all.

I see the Design Team is ahead of it, but I never see them poke their little heads in for a minute and actually post a single thing. o_o Why? I mean, that's useless-aid.

Growth: Last post was made in October.
Poetry and Prose: Almost an entire month went by before a post was even made recently.
Writing: Probably the most active out of the three sections, yet there is no helpful structure for others to improve.

Again, note that I said previously that these sections only seem to be alive thanks to the few regulars and every now and then, the one outsider who just happens to stray in. Otherwise, inactive. Aside from differences on what we consider active or inactive, my main point was trying to see if there was anyone you know of, staff or not, that is well-knowledgeable about literature and wouldn't mind sharing it with those that ask for it. If not, that's cool. Just a poor place to post ones writings to get nothing in return.

Firstly, it isn't the moderator's job to handle critiques. Their role is to moderate discussion.

I'd also think it falls under their job to help the section they "rule" by posting and giving enough criticism for a critique. If they can't do that, which it looks like they can't(save for Circ, who was the only one, but now he doesn't post anymore), then why the fuck have them listed as the main people to look to? I know if I were wanting help that didn't involve the community as a whole for some reason, then I'd be looking to the people that moderate the place.

Just a few suggestions for your inactive writing board.

What do you suggest we change, then? I'd like to point out that we don't task moderators with creating content: we give staff positions to users who are already generating consistently positive and high quality content. RolePlayGateway's core is the community, and we encourage you to take whatever action you feel is necessary to improve the activity level in this forum. If you don't see enough critiques, go ahead and start providing them for people, and ask that they critique your writing in return.

Hey, who knows - tone it down a notch (your tone of voice in the above post is very aggressive, as opposed to constructive), get some things done, and you might end up with a moderator position as a result.

? So uhh, it can be anything we post? Lyrics, poems, stories, etc etc? Jeeze, I have like a lot of stories and stuff to post, I just am not crazy about going to forums that have thousands of other people's posts and posting mine, it feels so crowded up but that's out of opinion wise. this one didn't seem too bad nor did it seem like it was being put to use besides talking and whatnot.

I could critique, I'm a novelist and freelance writer :). If you have any concerns about your writing I'll be happy to help, but be warned I'm no where close to brilliant, but I have been writing for most of my life (about 5 years total), and I would love for others to critique my work as well, but if you steal my works I'll hunt you down.

I'm very serious about that last statement, that one thing I can't stand as a writer is plagarism, I try very hard to write things that I feel are entertaining to others, and to steal that is like stealing a part of my soul.
"Men fear death as children fear the dark; and as that natural fear in children is increased with tales, so is the other." Francis Bacon

"Let us not fear death, but embrace it as we do sleep. Let us drift to the unknown, and we all see the dreams that await." Clint Daniel

Interesting. But when you call yourself that, what exactly do you mean? Self-publishing, or do you actually have a literary agent and all those shiny bells and whistles?

I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist pointing this out to you, Cara.

When you wrote '(about 5 years total)' that implies that (at time of writing) you were not much older than 5. :P

Cool! If you do get published, I'd like to know the names of the books, depending on the plot/genre I think I'd be interested in reading them. I myself am not old enough (I think I'm really not sure) to publish anything; nor do I have any finished stories (ha ha ha, I almost never finish my ideas), but I am working on it. If you want to read some of the things I've written already (because I don't feel like re-writing them on here, I can be kinda lazy sometimes...) you can click at the link below. I don't know if I'm good or not, but some people seem to like my works...
