I am from my books,
From shopping bags and beaches,
I am from tall palm trees,
(Green and full of life).
I am from strings and keys,
From Polish and Ukrainian,
I am from "Fire and Ice."
I am from Nevermore.
I'm from Maria and Roman's branch,
From pierogies and spaghetti,
The arm I broke when I was 11.
In my drawer,
Old photographs and books,
I am from those moments,
A bud blossoming into a rose.
This what my English teacher assigned us freshmen year. All credits go to the great work of George Ella Lyon's "I Am From" poem.

Some say the world will end in Fire,
Some say in Ice,
From what I've tasted of desire,
I hold with those who favor Fire,
But if I had to Perish twice,
I think I know enough of Hate,
To say for Destruction Ice is also Great,
And would Suffice.

A very nice poem. Has it been awhile since freshman year? would you rewrite the poem differently now?

Not really no, I'm a sophomore now. But I would most definitely make changes now! Those gorgeous palm trees have been replaced by oaks :P. Thanks for commenting!
