Gambit's Bar Visualized (Images) ( )

Postby Arash on Fri Mar 11, 2011 7:17 pm

Have You Ever Wondered What Gambit's Looks Like To Everyone Else?

I have always had a image of what Gambit's Bar looks like in my mind but it left me wondering, "What does Gambit's Bar look like to everyone else". So i made this thread for everyone to come and posts Sketches, photos, ect of what they think Gambit's Bar looks like. So...show me what you've got!

I'll start off with my own rendition of the bar done in Google sketch-up and Adobe Photoshop.

I have always thought of Gambit's as a sort of classy place which tried to be nice. I know that Gambit's is supposed to have some sort of shielding on the walls and i left out most of the entrances and exits but this is just a basic design.

You made this in photoshop? I could probably come up with something in 3D! But this is actually really nice! I love it. ;DDD

I still can't get over how you made this look so 3-dimensional in Photoshop. You just made downloading a 3D Design program look unnecessary. XD The environment looks like a real tavern/bar. I like this. Great work, Arash.

Also, that random pizza on the table is win.

Thank you for the compliments but no, not only in photo shop XD. Like i said "Google sketch-up and Adobe Photoshop". The basic design was made in google sketch-up. After i completed it i went back and took screen shots, loaded them into photoshop and added the shading and the worn look to it. Some of the smaller pieces were used from sketch up's pre-made items (The pizza, the glasses, the lamp, paintings).

Actually, I disagree with Shou only on some parts. Some parts of the designs do look 3-Dimensional, yes, but it is very easy to depict what is not. If you observe it closely, there is a mixture between some form of 3D detail and the 2D detail with the chairs and table lamps. Although they are very well put together, you can definitely tell it's not done in 3D at all. If this was done in 3D, the dimensions would look at lot clearer and wouldn't be sketchy, and would appear to be more smooth. The patterns are distributed very well throughout each image, but some of the angling is definitely off.

Also - the walls in the second image are off and make it look like it's not distributed evenly. The pattern on the right wall leads up towards the focal point, where the pattern on the left wall slants downwards from the focal point. And the picture is crooked. Plus, also the fact that Sketch-up isn't an in-depth 3D modeling program could be why it's off. Technically, what I see here is a 3D illusion instead of an actual 3D workspace. I looked up Sketch-up and it's exactly what it seems - a sketch program made for like architects and some game developers. Basically, it's a "quick and easy program."

Regardless, I still do like the work. If you actually made it in 3Ds Max, I think it would look phenomenal. You should try to get that program if you're truly interested in 3D design. We use it in school and it's an amazing 3D program.

Am I the only one who noticed the strange dude standing outside the right corner in the second to last image? Or did no one else care enough to mention it?

No @ Pseu. But I'm sure that's part of the program.

Floating tables, huh? :)

Great job on the use of your resources, Arash. I agree with Kaiya. This + 3Ds max would be phenomenal to see.

Maybe with V-Ray too :)

LOL @ Kai. I totally didn't even see the floating tables, I was paying too much attention to perspective. Good catch!

But yeah, you should try to enhance this design, Arash. It would look beast. :)

It took me a few minutes to notice too lol

I think the perspective issue comes from the fact that the shots are not in perspective. I've never worked with sketch-up but I assume that this is the equivalent of being in the Orthographic view in 3Ds Max. Things just look... odd.

I have been thinking of purchasing a better 3-D design program, as sketch-up is in fact a quick and easy program, but i'm not sure if i have the talent needed for it to be a good investment. I generally like the way it came out even though it has some faults in perspective but if i do end up purchasing a 3-D design program it well be on the top of my list.

The floating tables were something that was somewhat stunted because of my resources. Google sketch-Up made it difficult to add legs under the table so i tried to make it seem that it was attached to the back wall of the booth, it is gambits though so it could just be magic holding up the tables :P

The random person outside of gambits is something the program i use places in the model for scale.

Thanks for all the advice guys (and girls), i will try my best to improve.

There are tutorials all over the internet for 3Ds Max. My school generally uses these sites:

http://www.tutorialized.com/tutorials/3DS-MAX/1

http://www.cgarena.com/freestuff/tutori ... rials.html

http://tutsplus.com/

So you can check those out or even look on Youtube or other sites. It's all about practice, but it is well worth the investment.

Thanks for the links Kaiya, ill take a look.

Hmm, if you would like Kai and Kaiya, you could download sketch-up (it is free and takes about a minute to download) and ill send you my model, that way you can examine it better.

Okay, I could do that. I'll let you know when I get home and we'll discuss it.

I just think the screenshots are misleading, is all.

Ooh, I might snag the links as well. Looks like they have some interesting tutorials on there. What are you majoring in, Kaiya?

I can grab sketch-up and take a look at the model, Arash. Kind of curious about it now :)

Cool, after you have downloaded Google sketch-up and opened up a new project, click the "Get models" button on the top right corner (It should be a box with a yellow arrow) on the search bar type "Gambit's Bar" the first result is my bar. Click it and click download. On the download page there will be my name and everyone else's who contributed to it (The makers of the pizza, lamp, glasses, ect). Now it may look a little different because that model has no shading or the worn effect i added in photoshop (The editing i did in photoshop may of been why the perspective looks off)

I am majoring in Digital Design & Animation. I do a lot of photoshop and 3D work. This upcoming term, we're going to be working in Mudbox for 3D character creations. ;D

Here is a link to some of my older designs, if you're interested:

On a side note this thread was made so people would post their renditions of the Bar as well, so get to it! I'm eager to see what you all come up with!

It doesnt have to be in 3-D, professional, or worked on for hours. Anything you have would be greatly appreciated.

I took a look at your work Kaiya and i really enjoyed it, try your luck at making a rendition of gambit's, like i said, i'd love to see it.

I'll get into it in the next week or so, and I'll make an interesting model. I also have to practice to put something together for my portfolio, so the next quarter would be really good for me to maybe put up some designs.
