General Error ( )

Postby ShadowWake on Sun May 25, 2008 2:33 pm

EDIT BY Angel_Melfina: This thread is ALL of the General Error complaints threads merged into one, so it is repetitive, but does contain solutions. PLEASE do NOT post another thread asking about the General Error. Post in THIS thread asking for help if the solutions provided do not work for you. Thanks. :)

Gaarrgh! I'm getting really frustrated becasue I can't get into my roleplays, RPGateway homepage, 'View Your Posts' or 'View New Posts'. T_T

I can get into the odd roleplay (because I saved the link in my favourites) but even some of the links I've saved keep coming up with the same error, something along the lines of:

General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

Can't create a new thread (errno 12); if you are not out of available memory, you can consult the manual for a possible OS-dependent bug [1135]

BACKTRACE

FILE: includes/db/mysqli.php
LINE: 76
CALL: dbal->sql_error()

FILE: common.php
LINE: 206
CALL: dbal_mysqli->sql_connect()

FILE: viewtopic.php
LINE: 17
CALL: include('common.php')

This has been happening for about 3 days now, getting worse (before I could get into my roleplays but not anymore...) I know it's not my internet explorer as I have no trouble getting on other sites and I wondered whether it was trouble with the server down my end (UK)? Has anyone else had these troubles or does anyone know what's going on?? I'm starting to suffer from withdrawl symptoms!!

*twitches* @_@

I happens to me as well Shadow Wake, you are not alone in the pain.

It's expected by the server. I guess we can't improve that. I noticed it since I joined.

What you can do, though. When posting, before sending it copy it. That way when it crashes you won't lose all your hard work and can simply paste.

Yeah, I do that and can usually catch it in time, but recently the whole topic is just not coming up at all after I've tried to post. I ended up posting two topics of this because I couldn't delete one! (If a moderator can do that, then I'm happy for the extra topic to be deleted). I guess I'm just going to have to wait until it sorts itself out again... T_T

Mine's been doing that too. Somebody told me to delete all my internet history, and it worked fine for a while after that. I do it again any time it gives me problems. I don't know if it's 'working' like drinking water that someone told you was vodka and getting drunk, or it's actually working... but it stops, for a while.

Until Eric can slide you a more professional solution, do what I do when this happens. Hold shift and hit refresh.

That's the solution he's given to us all. It's just a problem with the server, it's happening to everyone now a days. <<

Yeah, we're experiencing growing pains. I've been tuning the web server (which is pretty much complete at this point), and I've moved on to tuning the database server (still having issues, obviously).

Be patient, I'll have things in perfect working order soon.

Yeah, it's been popping on and off for various people in various areas for the last little while. We're still not entirely sure why, from what I can tell.

This is related to a large volume of users online, and I am continuing to tune our database server to deal with it.

Basically, it means exactly what it says, we ran out of available memory to serve your request. We're full!

The server has been having issues for a while now, and Eric/Remaeus has been working on it constantly, going through backlogs and such to figure out the problem. The error never lasts too terribly long, so just be a little patient. It's good that you're using FireFox, because then at least you can hit the Back button and you don't lose anything you were trying to post.

Just to let you know, there is a way to bypass this. I know it works for internet explorer, but I don't know about anything else. If you hold the shift button down while you hit the refresh button in your toolbar, it will completely reload the page. It's worked for me and hopefully works for you guys.

Reason: It's the shift button, not control. :) This clears the "cache", or the copy of certain parts of the page your computer keeps for faster access.
