Aeryn's shield would cause Whisper's strike to recoil, though given the purely physical nature of it, the recoil was limited, and certainly not harmful. However, it wasn't from Whisper's hand that the real danger would come.
At the same moment that Aeryn's eye beams scored a solid blow against her own shield, Whisper utilized the time her black crystal had granted her to discharge her red crystal. Depleted the two charges stored within it caused a momentary spike of telekinetic prowess from the young psychic that she poured into her next attack. In a powerful and very abrupt shockwave akin to the snap of a rubber band, a wave of telekinetic force would fluctuate out, not from her hand, but rather, her body. However, on the chance that Aeryn found the means to get his shield lowered in time, simultaneous to releasing her attack, Whisper vaulted backwards in a somersault, so as to clear the ground and the returning path that the shockwave would take.
Low to the ground, the attack would catch Aeryn around the lower legs and with her discharged crystal adding two charges to her own energy, the attack was formidable force to contend with. With the full weight of her raw telekinetic prowess behind it, the shockwave was more than capable of fragmenting the bones in his lower legs and leaving him sprawled on his face on the ground. In addition, given the seemingly close vicinity and seemingly incorporeal nature of the attack, detecting it at such proximity in time to jump clear would be a feat in itself. A scarce two feet had separated the pair and due to discharging her crystal to charge the attack, there was little warning of where and when it would come from.
Furthermore, given her close proximity to Aeryn, and the fact that Aeryn's spikes were still over by the remnants of her vortex, it was likely her attack would conclude first. However to grow complacent was to get ones self killed, and she didn't need to see to pick up on the energy manipulation elsewhere.
Unfortunately, she was depleting her reserves at a faster rate than she would like. And not just her crystals either. She was starting to feel the drain on her internal reserves as well, and the telltale piercing pain behind her eyes that comes with excessive telekinetic use.
With that in mind, her reaction was a purely physical one and upon her feet reaching the ground once more, she prompted dove away to take cover behind the nearby altar. She had only a brief moment to react, due to the delay of withdrawing his spikes from the remnants of her dispersing vortex, but if her attack was successful, in all likelihood it would disrupt Aeryn's control. However, on the chance that it didn't, given Aeryn's raw force style, the altar would hopefully serve to take some of the force behind any incoming attacks, leaving her shield more capable of withstanding any impacts.
And if not, it would take time to redirect an attack around the altar, giving her a moments more time to evade it. In theory. At least that was the intention, before Aeryn simpy merged the spikes into one massive battering ram. By this point though, she was breathing heavily from the sheer intensity of the fight. One slip, one mistake would spell disaster, and keeping her reflexes so tuned to act on the detection of imminent attacks, rather than the attacks themselves, it was exhausting. The human body could only keep this up for so long.
