The sudden flash of Whisper's appearance within the arena was followed by her promptly dropping into a guarded crouch and swiftly scanned her surroundings. The young psychic had changed greatly since her former match, though outwardly she appeared much the same. Her lightly fitted clothes were certainly as impractical as ever, offering little in the way of physical defense against attacks. Though, at least the boots were canvas in material, soft and flexible for movement and the knee length skirt was slit up either side to keep it from being constrictive. Her top however was simply laced around her neck and midsection, leaving her back and midriff bared. All in all, the only skin that seemed to be pointedly concealed was that of her arms which were covered by full length cloth gloves that extended all the way to her shoulders, held in place by thin metallic armbands.

No, what had changed was internal. Gone was the mischief and the curiosity in her eyes, having been replaced instead by a hard calculated coldness. Whatever Claire had done to her back in the lobby had long since faded, but the young woman's demeanor had yet to revert to her more lighthearted nature.

It took Whisper but a fraction of a moment to orient herself to her surroundings before she was off at a run and making a beeline for the stone walls. The smooth metallic surface that she skimmed across allowed for fluid and silent movement beneath her canvas boots and she left not a sound of her passing while she crossed the ground.

As she moved though, she could feel that something wasn't quite right with this place. Her internal capabilities were greatly suppressed which left her quite vulnerable. Fortunately, even without her telekinesis or enhanced psychic perception working at full strength, the five foot wall would provide little hindrance to the lithe and athletic woman. With a show of physical prowess, it took but a single bound to land atop the stone structure in a poised crouch while she visually scanned the area for her opponent.

Perched there motionless, Whisper herself didn't look like much with her frail build and pale white skin. Even the white locks of hair and light blue of her eyes left her looking more akin to an ethereal wraith than anything else. The only thing about the petite woman that really marked her as a potential threat was the coiled chain entwined around her right arm.

Claire materialized at a location hand picked by herself. No flashy lighting, no loud sounds in fact a normal person looking at the 5 foot wall would notice nothing odd at all. Being second to materialize had allotted her that luxury. She had chose the far side of wall on her end. It gave her cover, and made her visually invisible to her opponent thanks to the kneeling position she had taken during transit.

Immediately upon reaching the field, Claire removed a discharge knife from her bandoleer and clipped it into her right holster, beginning the process of charging the knife with electricity. The over sized army jacket fell back into place, once again obscuring the holster from visual senses. Her other hand (right) grabbed one of the throwing knives she had prepared with a smoke bomb on the end.

Now completely prepared, the assassin reached out with her senses, seeking the same energy signatures she had noted in the lobby. She was surprised when the exact match was found. It seemed Whisper was trying to hide her energy, the magical stones were only registering at a fraction of the power Claire had previously sensed. Perhaps the girl was already charging some type of spell through them?

Only one way to find out.

Claire placed a hand on the wall and vaulted to the top of it mirroring Whisper's position halfway across the room. As she reached the top of the wall, she released the throwing knife from her right hand and send it soaring across the room. At first, the knife would look like it was aimed for Whisper in her crouched position, but in truth it was aimed just under the girl, at the wall below her.

There was no cocky smartmouthing or benign talk. Claire Wilder had one thing on her mind, and that was eliminating her opponent. She let her actions talk for her. She had come to kill this woman, not make a lifelong friend.

Poised and tense, Whisper didn't so much as bat an eye when Claire materialized behind the far wall. After all, with her psychic abilities dampened by the arena, Whisper was relying far more heavily on her visual perception at the moment. Though that's not to say that Whisper wasn't aware of the fact that the wall before her was the only object in the arena capable of concealing someone, or that it was the most likely direction for an attack to come. No, that realization sat heavy on her, and so she patiently waited as Claire went about her inspections and preparations. Seconds, minutes, hours, it would have made no difference to Whisper how long she sat there. Her opponent would come and Whisper would be ready, unhindered by such concepts as weariness, distractions or boredom. Such was the single minded state that she found herself in at the moment.

It wouldn't be until Claire made her move that Whisper would finally react. At the first detection of movement, the young psychic utilized her speed and agility, not to evade the dagger, but rather, simply to relocate before Claire could turn her stationary state against her. Athleticism and sheer speed were Whisper's strongest assets within her current state of mind and she displayed that fully as her preemptive reactions had her airborne in a forward hand-spring before Claire's dagger even hit its target.

Simultaneous to the sound of the assassins' dagger striking stone, Whisper's palms caught the lip of the second wall about four and a half feet to Claire's left before carrying herself up and over it. As she began her descent towards the ground on the far side, her left hand raised outwards towards the assassin's feet and released a focused blast of telekinetic force to keep the woman occupied. The blast lacked force enough to do any serious structural damage to the wall, though it was still enough to fracture rock or bone should it connect.

Landing with all the fluidity and grace of a dancer, her momentum would drop her into a crouch with her weight primarily resting on the balls of her left foot while her right hand pressed against the ground for added support.

The shift in arena sides left Whisper with an abruptly renewed psionic clarity and she wouldn't so much as even shift her gaze towards Claire. Instead she kept her head bowed and her eyes on the ground in front of her, every muscle in her body poised and tense to shoot off in another direction whether or not Claire followed up with a second attack or not. Remaining stationary would only give her opponent the opportunity to pin her down.

Claire reached the top of her wall and flung her knife at her perched adversary, but Whisper began moving at the first motion of trouble. As the knife left Claire's hand, Whisper launched herself from her wall towards Claire's. While quick and obviously athletic, Whisper had left out the obvious. Claire was not rooted to her position, nor was she known for having slow reaction times.

In a single spring-like step to her left, Claire spun clockwise and released a roundhouse kick at Whisper's backside with her right foot as the woman tried to push herself up and over Claire's wall. The kick was vicious, carrying enough power with it to knock Whisper backwards, and off the wall she was attempting to vault. It was unlikely the kick would break anything, but it would serve to throw off whisper's momentum, and to send the girl into a downwards tumble to meet with the floor between the two walls. As an added bonus, if the kick connected, Whisper would find her telekinesis and most of her magics sealed for several crucial moments in time.

Claire's first throwing knife impacted the opposing wall only a second before Claire unleashed her kick. The knife sliced open the smoke bomb as it embedded itself in the simulated wall and a thick black smoke began billowing out of the orb. Falling from it's capsule, the thick smoke spread between the two walls, visually obfuscating the right and left halves of the parallel walls.

Taking a deep breath, Claire would hop down into the smoke, across the midpoint of the battlefield. Using both the smoke and the all metallic area for visual and magical cover. Through everything, Claire kept track on Whisper's stones. When Whisper crossed over the midpoint of the field, they had brimmed to full power, and as Claire crossed over the midpoint, they once again seemed diminished. It seemed the section of the battlefield she currently resided in dampened magical forces. This would certainly be the best place for her to fight.

Claire's discharge knife continued charging, uninterrupted in her holster.

----If the kick missed, Claire would find herself subject to a telekinetic blast aimed at her footing, and on a single leg with her foot extended in a kick, She would be unable to block. The blast however despite having plenty of force would find Claire's footing to be easily compromised. Instead of breaking bone, the blast would knock Claire's leg out from under her, and leave the assassin to unceremoniously fall onto her face on the wall, as her opponent gracefully landed on the ground five feet below.-----

While it would at first appear that Whisper was en route to a direct collision with Claire's roundhouse kick, the flighty psychic woman was a bit more than she seemed. Having crossed the threshold between arena halves, Whisper's abilities had flared back to full strength, leaving her with a heightened sense of awareness and the ability to detect physical disturbances in her vicinity. It also left all of her racial talents at her disposal once more.

And so, as Claire's kick neared its target, Whisper's form (and her equipment) simply dematerialized away into little more than a vague wispy apparition that would waver and part to allow Claire's foot to pass harmlessly by. Landing crouched on the ground the tendrils of her ethereal state drew back together enough to vaguely resemble that of a humanoid form with its left arm outstretched towards Claire's feet.

Not wishing to remain stationary any longer than was absolutely necessary, Whisper lunged forward and to her right a single place. Her aim was to put a tad more distance between herself and Claire, who from the sound of it, just had a rather unfortunate collision with the stone wall.

Loosening it as she moved, the chain entwined around Whisper's right arm slipped free to hang at her side while she pivoted to face her opponent once more. Keeping about one foot of the chain links hanging loose, she spun the remaining six feet around in a single wide rotation to gain momentum before releasing it towards her prone opponent in a vicious arc. Opting for speed over power, the blow lacked the full force it could have had, but it still contained enough weight behind it to potentially be a painful and jarring blow.

However, given Claire's face-plant onto the wall and the five foot height of the stone structure, Whisper's options of what to strike were limited, and so the end of the chain was aimed to lash across the side of Claire's head and face. If Whisper was fortunate, her attack would be swift enough to conclude before Claire either regained her composure enough to move, or fell from where she had struck the wall. Of course, given Whisper's insubstantial state and the immaterial nature of her equipment at the moment, if the ethereal chain struck, it would simply pass through Claire's form. Though whether Claire would realize that, was another matter entirely. Perhaps it would keep the assassin on the move.

Claire smirked as the foolish girl neared. Snapping her leg around, Claire unleashed the roundhouse kick full force, expecting to wallop Whisper down and off her wall. The collision imminent, Claire took a bracing stance with her body to absorb some of the shock.

But the shock never came. The shift from substantial to insubstantial didn't register to Claire's senses.

Like a ghost, Claire's kick passed straight through Whisper's body, rending the apparition in half, before it shot a telekinetic blast from it's left arm. Completely unprepared for a phase change, Claire's foot was swept from under her by the blast, and she landed hard on the left side of her body. Her left arm managed to catch some of the fall, but her hip and calf on that side were likely fairly bruised. The heavy combat jacket had saved her from any scrapes. A small beep emanated from Claire's holster at this precise moment signaling the discharge knife had accumulated a second charge.

Though slightly injured, Claire's reflexes had saved her from being winded and slow on recovery. She rolled away from Whisper, still on top of the wall and made it to a kneeling position facing her. Already, Whisper was finishing her first rotation on the chain, and aiming the second at Claire's position on the wall. With not enough time to fully stand, Claire hooked the top of her right foot onto the back of the wall, while her left braced to give Claire leverage. Feet in position, Claire brought her right forearm forward to block the chain that was now sailing at her. By the looks of it, the chain didn't seem to have enough length to reach anything but her forward knee or blocking arm. With any luck, the chain would wrap around her arm in another painful, but non bone-breaking smack, and Claire would grab the Chain with her right hand, initializing a tug of war.

With Claire's arm raised to block Whisper's chain, the ethereal woman seized advantage of the chance to entangle her opponent and as smooth as running water, her wispy state grew substantial once more.

As her chain, now solid, found its mark, the first flicker of emotion touched Whisper's face since the start of the match. It was an intensity to her eyes that hinted at an inner fire that burned hot beneath the cold calculated exterior, and as that fire flared to life the chain around Claire's arm snapped taut. However, it wasn't by Whisper's hands that the chain moved, but rather, by the sudden grip of her telekinesis.

Not one to miss the opportunity to cripple her opponent, she held back little as she applied the full force of her telekinesis into inflicting extensive pressure to those few square inches of bone contained within the assassin's hand, wrist and forearm. The chain would spread the force out to some extent, but with several hundred pounds of pressure suddenly twisting closed, Whisper anticipated extensive damage to result.

Meanwhile, rather than try to out tug-of-war the assassin (an unlikely feat given Whisper's petite and lithe build), she instead leaped backwards, releasing her claim over the weapon while tugging her sash free. The backwards jump wasn't the most ideal move to keep her balance, but it offered her another four feet of distance between herself and Claire while keeping on the move. Twisting the crimson strip of cloth around either hand, she held it taut before her and the three crystals that fell loose from it were disregarded without so much as a glance downwards.

Though, as she moved backwards, the chain did not relent its assault. The loose end would have begun to snake its way around Claire, attempting to entangle her legs in addition to the arm. Following the urgings of Whisper's telekinesis, the weapon would almost seem to have a life of its own. However, with the brunt of her telekinetic prowess being applied to Claire's forearm, she lacked the force necessary to do anymore serious harm beyond entanglement.

There was a reason Claire was unafraid to touch weapons owned by her opponents. In fact, Whisper had been privy to that information during their brief encounter in the lobby. If the girl had been around for the strawberry incident, she would definitely know what was coming next.

The chain shimmered solid once again and smacked Claire's forearm with gusto, leaving red welts while wrapping around the arm a time and a half. The moment the chain touched Claire however, Claire's seal spread over the object like a raging virus, coating it with a layer of anti-magical (and mental) energy. Claire grabbed the chain with her right hand and pulled in an outward slashing motion, but Whisper had already released it opting to rely instead on her telekinesis.

She would find however that the chain would be largely uncooperative. Thanks to Claire's seal, Whisper's attempts at grabbing the chain with her telekinesis would be similar to grabbing it physically after it had been dipped in a lubricant. Whisper's full focus had been brought on the coiled region around Claire's wrist however, and despite the mental grease the object began squeezing Claire's forearm with an extremely uncomfortable amount of pressure. A deep red-purple was beginning to ooze where the chain cut into her skin. Bringing over her left arm, while her discharge knife binged a third time, Claire peeled away the end of the chain and freed herself from the constricting coils. She allowed the object to continue her initial flightpath, observing other sections of the chain weakly try against the slashing motion to grab her. Releasing the serpent, Claire allowed it to fly into the other half of the arena.

Free of the chain and any additional attacks from Whisper, Claire hopped off the wall while drawing two throwing knives from her bandoleer. She wanted to coat them in a sickly green energy of her own, but the knives were already sealed by her touch. A flick of Claire's left hand, and the two throwing knives were released at Whisper's right and left shoulders as Claire began advancing on the flighty wraith of a girl. Keeping her left hand open in front of her, while her right sat close to her waistline, Claire appeared to be coddling the injured appendage as she ran at whisper.

Claire had seen Whisper drop the magical stones from the girls' sash. A mental note was made to avoid them.

As Claire released her throwing knives, the amount of warning provided was minimal, but she caught note of the throwing motion quite keenly. The ensuing results would unravel too rapidly for the eye to make sense of immediately, but rather than attempt a physical dodge under such circumstances, with a flick of telekinesis Whisper flung two of the fallen crystals into the air. The first knife was ricocheted high into the air overhead as a crystal struck it, but the second knife sustained only a glancing hit that spun it out of control. Fortunately, as the weapon sliced past, the only harm sustained were a few loose strands of severed hair.

Meanwhile, despite Claire bearing down on her, Whisper didn't move from her place. In fact, it was the first moment since the initiation of the fight that Whisper had stopped moving at all. The only change she made was a shift in her stance as she slid her right foot back and dropped into a guarded crouch.

However, just because she wasn't moving, didn't mean she wasn't acting. No, as she stood there poised and ready, she was letting her telekinesis flow around her to enhance her speed and agility through her ability to manipulate physical matter. Though, it would require a heavy level of concentration and the ability to keep her body limber enough to not inflict injuries upon herself by pushing it beyond its normal limitations.

While preparing her body for physical combat, Whisper took special note of Claire's right hand, for she hadn't forgotten the ease at which the assassin had thrown her concealed knives only moments prior. The thought that Claire was merely coddling her injury did cross Whisper’s mind, but was promptly disregarded. In combat, one didn't have the luxury of assumptions, and at such close range and with only one crystal still at her feet, a second deflection would be a hard feat to accomplish. With that in mind, Whisper was prepared for the worst and if Claire so much as made a move with her hands, Whisper was poised to react instantly. Her eyes however, betrayed none of her suspicions as they remained locked on Claire's own, chillingly indifferent to the outcome of the imminent engagement.

Almost like two spring loaded traps, two of the three stones that had dropped from the sash bounced up into the air like defensive drones protecting their master. With precision, they impacted with Claire's throwing knives sending the knives (and themselves) spinning off in unpredictable paths. Unfortunately, none of these paths were an impact path with Whisper herself.

Claire had closed to ten feet of Whisper and while she wasn't sure if Whisper had bought her injury or not, she continued to keep her right hand near her waist, moving it as little as possible. The Chain had succeeded in rending flesh around her forearm, causing moderate bleeding from the twisted carapace, but it was far from useless.

*Begin Edit*Passing just over the ten foot mark from Whisper, Claire observed the girl begin to drop into a ready stance. She had stopped moving, and was preparing for Claire's assault. "Heh, lets see just how prepared she really is"

In what seemed like a quarter of a second, Claire exploded across the distance of ten feet, leaving a wake of rippling air behind her. She had decided that the now single stone at Whisper's feet was much less threatening then the trio, and instead of avoiding the unknown minefield, She would attempt to run over it before the triggers could react to her arrival. Claire's intent wasn't to punch or kick the flighty telekinetic, but to full-on barrel through her with her left shoulder, kicking the remaining stone off to the left at a thirty degree angle as she advanced.*End edit*

If the tackle connected, Whisper would have a bevvy of problems to deal with. On top of being sealed and being tackled at close to 30 MPH Claire's right hand would snap into action. In a quick flurry, the hand moved 3 inches to the right, grasping the finger inserts of Claire's signature 13 inch iron knuckle knife and withdrew it from her belt, bringing it up to stab Whisper through the stomach region.

The blink of an eye would tell just how ready Whisper really was.

Re: GR2011: Whisper vs Claire Wilder (R2) ( )

Postby Tiko on Fri Aug 19, 2011 5:19 pm

Having taken the time to focus her mind and body proved to be a valuable asset as Claire let loose a burst of speed. There were two pointed benefits of manipulating her own body via telekinesis. The first was a heightened level of durability from impacts as she could brace her body and absorb the shock rather than letting her own muscles, tendons and bones do it for her. The second was that she no longer required the time necessary to send impulses from her brain to her muscles telling them to act. A simple thought would have her body in motion as she began to slip into a trance like state.

With that in mind, even the quarter second she had to react to Claire would be sufficient to drop to one knee and brace herself. With her sash wound tightly around either hand and stretched taut before her, it would be a simple matter to catch Claire around the lower legs with it and still avoid physical contact.

Given the sheer speeds at which Claire and Whisper were moving, the quarter of a second reaction time would be suitably lowered to twenty-five milliseconds as the distance between the pair closed from ten feet to one foot in the time it took Whisper to drop to her knee. Twenty-five milliseconds to either redirect 30 mph of momentum or to draw a weapon.

Should Claire fail to do so, her legs would be caught up by the sash and Whisper would use the assassin's momentum to simply hoist her up and over. With her own body held within the grip of her telekinesis, Whisper was quite thoroughly braced to absorb the shock of Claire's momentum, though most of it would be redirected rather than blocked directly, and the added potency to her physical prowess would send Claire well clear to land several yards behind her.

A strong forward offensive was more Whisper's style in her current mindset, but she was adapting smoothly to the necessity to avoid physical contact with this particular opponent. Though, that's not to say that Whisper was entirely banking on the success of her maneuver and she was thoroughly ready to abandon her solid form if necessary. However, as long as she could maintain her current state of focus, her reaction time would be optimal, within the capacity of what she could do without the necessity of her human aspects. Though she did run the risk that any disruption from her trance like focus could be thoroughly disastrous to the very breakable nature of her frail body. Fortunately, such things as fear and pain would not register within this particular state of mind.

No matter the outcome of Whisper's attempted throw, the crystal on the ground would be caught by Claire's foot and sent skittering off into the distance. With all of her focus being applied into manipulating her own body, the young psychic lacked the mental capacity to safely apply her telekinesis to the crystal at the moment. And so, rather than compromise her current levels of reaction time and physical potency, the small object was disregarded for the time being.

Re: GR2011: Whisper vs Claire Wilder (R2) ( )

Postby DarkManticoreX2 on Fri Aug 19, 2011 11:11 pm

A teacher's saying flashed through Claire's mind as she exploded to her top speed. Most sayings were discarded as useless ranting to the assassin, but this singular one had seemed to hold true over her lifetime. "Never over-commit to an attack unless you are sure it will yield desirable results". It was one Claire had learned well in her days as a trainee. Her master had commonly used her speed against her with knees to the stomach, trips and other simple motions that had yielded painful results.

These teachings were in Claire's mind as she began her approach. That teacher, now long dead by Claire's own hand, had taught Claire how control herself while approaching an opponent. A lesson that had proved worth it's pain tenfold. It was a simple lesson; don't commit yourself to an action until you have to. With a charging head of steam, Claire looked poised to fall into Whisper's leg trip rodeo, but thankfully she hadn't yet lowered her shoulder for the tackle. Whisper began dropping almost as soon as Claire began her charge, and as the motion began it was obvious an upper body tackle was soon to be no longer an option. With enough time to realize her planed approach was no longer available and her opponent would soon have competent countermeasures in place Claire decided on a fallback.

Semi-literally.

Claire's speed remained blazing fast, and as she neared within two and a half feet of Whisper she pitched her legs forward. Like a baseball player sliding into home and trying to physically hurt the catcher, Claire's right foot would skid across the ground and aim to impact Whisper's lead foot at the joint, knocking out her balance. Her left would follow only a few milliseconds later, aimed to impact Whisper's stomach as she either pitched forward from the hit to the foot, or made to avoid it. At the speeds the two were moving, Whisper would have a sixteenth of a second to notice the shift in Claire's approach. Skidding on her backside, Claire was glad for the heavy combat jacket. It held nicely against the friction of the slide and protected her back quite well.

Her jeans however were a different story. The speed at which she had been going combined with the sudden fiction of her slide had already rubbed through the pocket and well into the main lining of the clothing. She could feel a burning sensation on her right cheek, it was likely visible in several small patches.

Regardless of Whisper's response, Claire's left arm would move to draw the thrice prepped discharge knife from her holster, aiming for a quick and ruthless followup.

Given the time available to respond, Whisper could indeed process the shift in Claire's approach. However, registering and having the capacity to make complex decisions were not one in the same. As such, Whisper was limited entirely to reflexive reactions. And so, much as one would instinctively brace for an imminent impact, Whisper too braced herself.

The result would be an abrupt inverse of the telekinetic hold over her body, to repel instead of hold. Forced outward, the telekinetic push would accomplish two things. One, it would slow, if not stop Claire's momentum in its entirety, and two, it would create a protective layer against physical contact. Much as she had blasted Claire's feet out from under her earlier, the psionic energy would fluctuate out to impact with Claire's extended foot first, and from there, any part of the assassin's body carried forward by momentum. For all intents and purposes, it would be akin to being struck by a rapidly moving wall, while you yourself were moving at a high velocity.

Unfortunately for Whisper, while her telekinesis generally allows her to manipulate objects apart from herself and remain well clear of any shifts in force and backlashes. In this situation, Whisper herself was the object, and the backlash would be quite unpleasant as she inverted the hold over her body. No longer braced to withstand such impacts, she would suffer the consequences, not from Claire's momentum, which would be suitably stopped by Whisper's outward push, but rather by her own actions as she was shoved backwards from the abrupt shift and expansion of telekinetic force.

Of course, the flinging itself would not cause her any serious harm beyond a sinking jerking sensation. No it would be the impact with the ground when she skidded to a stop several yards back from Claire that would be unpleasant. The one thing going in her favor was that Whisper had only to contend with the backlash of her own ability. Claire had to contend with the force of Whisper's blast, paired with her own forward velocity. Even with her reduced speed, the assassin would probably be fortunate to not break something should she collide with the wall.

Regardless of Claire's own outcome with Whisper's impromptu wall, the young psychic would still have to contend with having flung herself backwards at a high rate of speed. Utilizing her athletic prowess, her primary instinct was to try and absorb and spread out as much of the impact with the ground as she could. However, the release of her channeled energy left Whisper relying on her natural level of reflexes, without the assistance of her telekinesis. Even knowing how to take a fall safely wouldn't save her from the jarring impact or the abrasions inflicted along her rather exposed skin, very much akin to the ones Claire herself had suffered from moments earlier.

Having long since blocked off the pain receptors to her brain, the painful abrasions along her back and arms would prove little more than superficial wounds, but it would still take her a moment to re-orient herself from what she had just done, and so for the moment she didn't follow up on her deflection. Though, her expression had not altered in the slightest and still displayed the sheer levels of Whisper's detached state.

Despite the inability for her physical limitations to keep up with her psychic prowess, there was no flicker of fear or unease in her face, no widening of her eyes or a quickening of her pulse. Her current state of mind was the embodiment of Whisper's fervent resolve. The necessity to succeed at all costs, to not falter or be weighed down by doubts of failure. Kill or be killed.

Claire's legs impacted Whisper's wall at a slightly reduced speed from her original 30 MPH. No time was left for reactions as Whisper inverted her telekinetic hold on herself and sent a wall of force to impact with Claire instead. The result was not the standing above Whisper with a foot on her chest that Claire had hoped for, but it was a start.

What happened next would be a feat Whisper herself might be impressed with, even with it being not Claire's original intention. As Claire withdrew the discharge knife from it's holster, her right foot impacted the impromptu wall, followed almost immediately by her rising left. The lack of give to the object she had hit caused her body to react on it's own. Claire's immensely strong leg muscles coiled against the pressure, and she could feel an enormous strain being placed on her left leg before she could envelop it and her right in a sickly green anti energy field which combined with her remaining momentum shattered a hole large enough to slide through in the telekinetic barrier.

Claire slid an additional 3 yards after her impact, bringing her nearer to Whisper, but still too far to act. The wall had absorbed the vast majority of her momentum, and the suddenness of the impact and force was jarring on Claire's body. Small but ignorable aches plagued her back, and as she made to stand, the most pronounced effect from her impact with the wall displayed itself. Making it to a standing position, Claire attempted a hurried run to intercept Whisper while she was down and reorienting herself. Her first step on her left leg however was met with a fiery burning from her hamstring as it screamed in protest.

"ffffHaaa"

Claire exhaled, gripping the sparking discharge knife so tight her knuckles turned momentarily white. The aforementioned run turned into a hop and a skip, placing her a scant ten feet from Whisper's position. Shifting virtually her entire body weight to her back right leg, Claire sought revenge. Her eyes were wide, a beast in pain looking for payback. Her right arm flashed upwards, drawing two more throwing knives and flicking the sealed knives with her wrist at Whisper's location nearly the second they were removed from the bandoleer. Claire's left hand followed suit, aiming the discharge knife at Whisper, but she held back, waiting to press the button in the handle until Whisper had revealed which direction she would dodge the knives in.

Once Whisper did, Claire's discharge knife would follow her, erupting in a fifteen foot long, fifteen foot wide crackling cone of electricity (top of the cone at the tip of the knife, expanding outward) with enough voltage to kill man woman or wild animal. If this didn't work, Claire had one last trump card to play, her right arm once again hovering over a pocket on the right side of her combat jacket.

Unfortunately for Whisper, physically dodging throwing knives at such close range wasn't a likely option, and lacking anymore crystals to intercept the projectiles with, she opted instead to shed her physical form. As the ethereal woman rolled forward and up onto one knee, her form dematerialized and allowed the knives to pass harmlessly through to strike the ground beneath her.

Should Claire discharge her remaining knife, the same would occur as Whisper's would be incapable of acting as a conductor for the electricity. Though, given the wispy ethereal state Whisper had returned to, whether or not Claire would go through with discharging the knife was another matter entirely.

Remaining crouched on the ground she braced herself with her left hand while she surveyed the situation. This whole matter was proving most taxing. Unarmed melee was her strongest point, but battling an opponent she couldn't physically touch was making this far more tedious than it should have been. And despite outwardly showing no sign of weariness or strain, inwardly Whisper still had her limitations. The capacity to ignore the bodies warnings hardly meant that such things didn't occur. This awareness was evident within Whisper's calculated mind as she began formulating a plan of action that would put her on the offensive.

As the situation stood currently, the strain on Whisper's physical body had been minimal at best, but relying primarily on her telekinesis would rapidly drain her already depleting psionic reserves. However, her opponent was already displaying signs of physical weariness. If she could get into melee range of Claire, allowing her telekinesis to be nullified would still leave her substantially less taxed than the assassin, at least physically.

The primary danger to that approach would be the sparking knife in Claire's hand. Had Claire discharged the electricity despite Whisper's shift to her ethereal state, than Whisper would simply lunge forward, aiming to intercept Claire directly while simultaneously reaching out with her telekinesis and flicking up one of Claire's discarded throwing knives from earlier in the match. The knife would, if unhindered, be flung high up into the air only to plummet back down towards Whisper's position. However, successful acquisition of the object would rely heavily on finding an opening to return to a substantial state in time to catch the moving projectile out of the air.

Though, had Claire not discharged her knife, then Whisper would not prepare to become substantial just yet, nor would she move or attempt to retrieve one of the throwing knives. Instead, she would begin to delve into the mechanics of the sparking knife contained within Claire's grasp, quickly discerning the technological nature of the item, rather than magical. Though to discern the intricate workings of the object would take more than what she could see from basic perception skills. It would involve a series of gentle telekinetic touches, akin to how she maps her surroundings. If unhindered, she would begin to draw up within her mind an intricate design of the object, inside and out.

Meanwhile, in an effort to keep her opponent distracted and perhaps demoralize her, Whisper spoke for the first time since the start of the match.

“You're body grows weary. How much more can it withstand?” Whisper inquired. “I will not tire, I will not falter. But you, your body is weak, restricted by the limitations of your human nature. It will betray you.”

It was a lie, but so smoothly spoken as to be flawless

Whisper turned ethereal again in another burst of energy as the knives passed through her, much to Claire's annoyance. While it seemed like Claire didn't learn from her mistakes, the statement didn't really hold true. She had been so busy during her first recovery reacting to Whisper's attacks that she had failed to notice exactly what Whisper had done. This was not the case now as Whisper faded into a wispy state to allow Claire's knives to pass through. Claire held the charge on the knife in her left hand, unwilling to waste the energy on Whisper's intangible state.

Her left leg throbbing and unable to support her weight, combined with her opponent's ability to pass through both her legs and her knives, Claire decided it was time to abandon her physical assault. Claire opened her right hand and Pulled the green energy surrounding her feet to it as Whisper began to taunt her from a kneeling position.

Claire's physical abilities were limited by her leg, but as long as she could hold Whisper at bay with the threat of her discharge knife, she had her full gamut of magical energy available to her. With another flick of her right hand, the green ball of energy soared outward in a tracking motion at Whisper at roughly the same speed as her previous throwing knives. Thankfully, Claire had been completely focused on the girl this time as she blinked out of phase. The focus had not missed the visual clues, but it had observed the magical ones as well. Now with an energy signature to reference, Claire directed the green ball to follow it. As long as Whisper remained intangible, the glowing ball would follow her.

The true desire was to see the effect of the ball when it hit. The green energy Claire produced effected opponents just like her touch, sealing their magic for a time. When the ball hit Whisper's form it would explode, providing a magical sealing effect to the area within a 3 foot radius. Weather Whisper turned tangible on her own, or the energy forced her to, Claire kept the knife in her left hand trained on the wispy incarnation, itching to press the button the second Whisper was forced tangible.

"You can't run forever". Hate and bitterness flowed from Claire's mouth as she talked, tracking whisper's every movement. "I've only used my body this fight. My magical powers are even more formidable. Just how long can the coward hide?"
