Green Hallow: The Missing Children (OOC) ( )

Postby Jadeling Hawkins on Mon Jan 04, 2010 9:09 pm

The Old West. The Wild West. The Fierce Frontier. It has been called many things, and meant many things to many different people. But the action, mystery, and adventure of the western states during the time of expansion and progression may never truly be completely chronicled. Sometimes, the greatest feats, losses, ventures, romances and horrors could occur in the most insignificant of places.

Green Hallow is such a place. It is a small town; destined one day to be abandoned for dust. No more than a handful of the residents ever stay long enough to be considered dedicated to the place. Yet it thrives in its own way. Green Hallow draws in all types; enough to keep the saloon booming at night and Madam Missouri's 'gentleman's club' lavishly decorated and reeking of expensive perfumes. The cattle ranch will never become a beacon of success, but does well enough that Mister Jessup doesn't see fit to move on to greener pastures. Old Wiley Riley's silver mine has long since run dry and been closed down; yet there remains an unusual magnetism in the place. Strangers find themselves drawn in; unwitting participants in what will someday be tall tales.

What is the tale that you will become a part of? What does Green Hallow have in store for you?

-----------------------------

This is an old-west style roleplay. It takes place somewhere in the Western states of the USA, sometime in the early 19th century. It will have a touch of the supernatural element, as the main characters work to discover why the children of Green Hallow are disappearing.

Da rules:

1. Follow basic Roleplay Gateway rules. If you don't know these, then please show some initiative and look them up :)
2. IC in the IC thread, OOC in the OOC thread.
3. Basic literacy is an absolute must. At least 1-2 healthy paragraphs per post.
4. Please let me know if you are going to disappear for a while. Also, show proper respect to your fellow players.

In order to apply to this game, please post up a link to your character's profile using the RPG profile system. It is simply so much easier to track down your character profile that way!

My primary character shall be Lavender Smith, whom I shall write the first post with once we have some idea of who's going to be involved here :) I may create another character or two or three, but we'll see.

So, any takers?

I'm definitely interested in this RP. It might take me a while but I'll get a profile up asap.
Socrates once said........ To fear death, my friends, is only to think ourselves wise, without being wise: for it is to think that we know what we do not know. For anything that men can tell, death may be the greatest good that can happen to them: but they fear it as if they knew quite well that it was the greatest of evils. And what is this but that shameful ignorance of thinking that we know what we do not know?

I'm joining. I just wrote a profile and uploaded it:

http://www.roleplaygateway.com/characters/Brady%20Gallagher%20Paulson (Sorry, it won't let me use the url code.) I get an error message.

Brady Gallagher Paulson: A free Negro who has made his way out west to Green Hallow to seek fame and fortune - more out of curiosity than anything else.

Let me know if you require any revisions, or if you have questions or other concerns about the character. I will be signing off for the night soon, as I have a large volume of work to complete in real life, but if you shoot me a PM, I'll see it and respond as soon as possible. I hope the character is unique enough! I tried to stray away from the cliched rugged wilderness explorer, or lone wolf cowboy type. Don't know how well this worked out, but let me know.

I'm excited for this roleplay! Although I will warn you, as my signature says, I won't be able to post more than once or twice a week at the most, due to real life scheduling issues. Will that be a conflict?

- Ylanne

If the first casualty of war is truth, then what is the cost of a crusade against terror? Perhaps it's the knowledge that in order to eradicate evil, we must begin to emulate the evildoers. And if you label your enemy 'evil' long enough, you justify even the most immoral act as noble.

Any chance of taking one of Lavender's brothers, Jade?

Northern: Hmm...I had originally intended on having Lav get separated from her brothers, which would be about the only way she'd wilfully get involved with anyone else...but that does interest me. If you want to, go for it! If not, you're also welcome to play someone else.

Dig and Penned Tree: Your characters both look great, but we seem to have a bit of an issue with them. We can't have a civil war vet AND a slave who recently bought his freedom, I'm afraid. Penned Tree, while Brady does look like he'd be a great addition, I'm not sure about you only posting once or twice a week. Not for myself, but for whoever becomes involved with Brady and has to wait. Long waits between posts when everyone else is cruising can be frustrating for some players. I'll say 'yes' for now, but we still need to figure out the issue between your two characters ^^; Maybe Brady freed himself a long time ago?

Orion Vryce: I'm gladly waiting :)

Koh: Feel free to take two characters, and Jesse looks grand ^^

Lol I don't understand the issue...Brady should have been freed after the war ended unless that is the issue I can't seem to understand lol

The issue is that Brady is listed as having freed himself. Not having been freed. Having freed himself. Purchased his freedom. That would not have happened *after* the war. And Brady was posted/applied with before you posted with your soldier. So you two need to decide on which character's backstory wins out, or make a compromise.

Postby Ylanne on Tue Jan 05, 2010 6:41 pm

This is Ylanne, aka The Penned Tree. I use a secondary account because all fifteen character slots on this one are used, and I don't feel like clicking the blue 'abandon' button. :)

I'm happy to talk about it. If not, you as the moderator could simply set a closer timeframe on when the roleplay is occurring. I don't mind having Brady having freed himself shortly before the civil war, but it would make him older than he is currently listed. Why don't you shoot me a PM here? ...Actually, you probably sent a PM to Penned Tree, so I'll switch accounts and then come back to this post. It may be that it will see a revision.

Historically, I supposed it's also possible that Brady freed himself in the early part of the civil war, when the South was its own sovereign nation, and his master could have done what he wished.

Okay. I'm switching accounts now. . . be back in a few minutes, possibly a bit more.

- Ylanne

:EDIT: Switched and back. No PMs there. So yeah, dj17 (I think that's right), shoot me a PM and we can discuss details. I'll probably see it tomorrow. I need to sign off this site now for my own sake. :) Real life work beckons, and loudly.

May 2012: I'm currently researching roleplaying and need any roleplayers to take an anonymous survey. It takes an average of 25 minutes to complete. This is part one, and the second survey will be released soon.

Louise Wright

I might make another character, possibly a blacksmith or blacksmith apprentice, but for now I'll just stick with Lou. =3

Becky, Louise, and Paul all get big thumbs up. Nyghtfang, I look forward to see your character ^^

I'm working on the intro, please be patient with me, all! In the meantime, perhaps those of you who are playing characters that live in/near Green Hallow could collaborate on how well your characters know each other?

Well, it has been a while, hasn't it?

I won't bore you all with the reasons behind the long wait between now and when I first proposed this. But suffice to say I am still interested, and have at last created an active Green Hallow page.

If you are still interested, give it a gander and stick your characters in there!
