Greetings and Salutations! ( )

Postby AndyGirl on Wed Mar 03, 2010 12:38 pm

My name is Andy, and I'm a 33-year-old female who has been roleplaying over the past 12 years or so. I started in college on mIRC with a group from Austnet, and my love of roleplay just grew from that. I enjoy stories with all of the elements: great characters, detail, action/adventure, romance, humor.

My preferences for genre always will involve fantasy elements, though I am open to era. I love medieval/historical-fantasy play with D&D flavor or original setting, and I also like modern/contemporary-fantasy, much in the flavor of Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel. I also am a fan of Marvel comics, primarily X-Men. Most of my characters are originals, but I might consider a canon character. Feel free to contact me about putting together something fun, and I'll definitely be poking around and finding something fun to play. I play characters of either gender and most any race, so long as they are humanoid in appearance.

Hope to find some great fun!

Hello Andy, and welcome to Roleplay Gateway!

It looks like I have the unique honor of being the very first greeter to welcome you to our humble abode here at Roleplay Gateway! :D My name is Ylanne (it makes a spiffy username too! ---> ), and I am the site's resident crime writer. I'm also an editor (so feel free to ask me about publishing and the process if that's something you're interested) and part-time teacher. I'm always around, so you should feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions, problems, suggestions, or requests in regards to the site, your roleplaying, and/or your writing. I would be happy to help you in any way I can, in any way necessary or desired. I respond to all queries within 24 hours. Because you are new to this site and to roleplaying, I highly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. (Other people to seek help from: Dark blue usernames denote mentors, green usernames denote moderators, and red usernames denote administrators).

I prefer modern/realistic roleplay, and especially character-driven stories (basically literary work), but am open to almost anything. The only setting I will never do under any circumstances whatsoever is cybering, or any game or writing inclusive of sexual content beyond what is seen in a PG-13 film. I tend to be advanced/literate and write upwards of 500-750 words on average per post, so I expect the same from most others; however, semi-literate also appeals to me, so two paragraphs can work well too. (Surprisingly, I can also enjoy consistent one liner dialogue between two characters, but only if setting and other context has already been established.) I've also begun to participate in text-based fighting, which I found surprisingly interesting and compelling. (And LARP is the first kind of roleplay I've ever done, and it still remains my favorite).

If you're interested in private roleplay, just drop me a line anytime. Also feel free to check out the links in my signature. I have an interest check that's been open for a while now - a warning though: it's all modern and realistic settings. That being said, here's hoping you have a wonderful time here! The folks round here are great people and great roleplayers, with rare exceptions. You can find practically everything here that you've ever imagined or could want to write, read, or roleplay - and if you for some crazy reason you don't see it, feel free to create it. We encourage creativity - it's the reason the site exists. Other than Eric (our founder) having way too much free time on his hands!

To shamelessly advertise, check out Hayya, which is a character-driven advanced/literate dark fantasy open roleplay. It's my only non-realistic roleplay I've ever written and it needs characters! :) And my newest roleplay is The Station, which is my typical modern/realistic setting, which has 15 accepted characters and an IC thread. It's always accepting and could use more older and/or police characters. :)

Be sure to take a look at the site rules. There are only five of them, but they're all integral to the continued success of this community. Members on this site use the forums, the chat system, and the Roleplay Tab system for roleplaying. For help with the Roleplay Tab system, which is unique to our site, you might want to look at this user written guide. By the way, my reference guide, Ylanne's Guide to Roleplay Terminology includes not only general roleplaying terms (useful for those new to roleplaying altogether), but also a number of terms used specifically on this site (useful for anyone new to this site, or anyone acclimated to slightly different terminology).

And once again, welcome! I hope to see you more often around the forums. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask.

Blessings and peace,
Ylanne

Jan. 2012: I'm researching roleplaying and need any roleplayers to take an anonymous survey. It takes an average of 25 minutes. This is part 1 of 2. The second survey will be released soon.

Welcome to the site, im the random [Soma] I voice my opinion and im always getting in trouble. If you want to role-play some times just send me a PM or just make a Topic saying SOMA GET IN HERE!

I'm also a old school writer, but unlike you I'm 20 and have been writing since 1999. I remember sitting in Yahoo chat rooms/ IM chat rooms (the ones you could make) and have like sixty people writing along side of you. Enjoyed the clans the most, I ran the Soul Reaver clan!
Raziel Bloodlust!!! That is my oldest character.

Thank you, [Soma]! I'm thrilled that you also are a fellow writer. I too hope that we can put something together. I'll pm you once I'm allowed to do so (not sure when that will be). I too remember when you could create chatrooms in Yahoo!, though I rarely used those. I went from mIRC straight to AOL, which was great in its heyday. If I'm lucky, I still find good people to play with, though most of them prefer cybering to actual creative collaboration. Very frustrating.

Anywho, it sounds like you might like the same sort of roleplay that I do, so I'd love to hammer out some ideas.

Sorry - I forgot that new members can't send PMs until they've posted so many posts in the forums. Here's what I sent you, again:

I always welcome new members! It's good when people feel like they are part of the community, not excluded from it on the basis of being new to here. :) Anyhow, that's quite the list you have going there! Personally, I have rarely if ever been inspired by TV shows, movies, or books for my own characters, settings, and plots. (A few books is about the most that have ever influenced me.)

If you ever have ideas, let me know.

And hullo thar, [Soma], I know I've seen you around before too! I'm looking right now for people interested in one on one scenarios.

Huzzah!

Not all of my created characters are directly inspired by a particular book, movie, or TV show. I can't really say any are completely devoid of any literary influence. I've always loved reading, so I can't avoid the influence of the literature. I do get excited when I come across something in media that inspires a creative reaction; it's exactly how I hope to feel when I read a roleplay partner's writing.

I know that I'm not necessarily a great match with you, Ylanne, and your modern-realistic tendencies, but perhaps we could come up with something that would suit the both of us.

I'll certainly keep my fingers crossed to that end!

Yes, I have modern/realistic tendencies and preferences, but as I said, I'm open to nearly anything with compelling characters and a compelling premise, especially if it's something that challenges the plots that have already been done a million times. If it's unique and has room for much creative development, send me a PM and I'll definitely consider joining.

You might want to see if Hayya interests you. It's a very slow going roleplay, but still and always accepting characters. As I mentioned in my first post, it's the only fantasy roleplay I have ever written, and you might enjoy that, if you're not too big on modern/realistic. A note though: Hayya is a bit of unconventional fantasy. It's more like convoluted historical fiction, and was written in collaboration with another roleplayer on here who wanted a fantasy roleplay without magic. The setting is loosely based off the Occidental view of the world from the Medieval age, and it is set during wartime (but of course! :D ).

So let me know. I'm always around. :)

Thank you for your welcome, Irish Wolf :)

Ylanne, I did check out Hayya, and it might be something up my alley. I'm going to read more of it this weekend while I have more time, and perhaps I'll be contacting you about a character idea. I tend to prefer my fantasy with a bit of magic thrown in, but Hayya might be interesting enough for me otherwise.

RolePlayGateway is a site built by a couple roleplayers who wanted to give a little something back to the roleplay community. The site has no intention of earning any profit, and is paid for out of their own pockets.

If you appreciate what they do, feel free to donate your spare change to help feed them on the weekends. After selecting the amount you want to donate from the menu, you can continue by clicking on PayPal logo.
