Growing Shadow OOC

Image
The goddesses are all very powerful beings as I am sure you know. Tempting, loving, brings of life, and death. In the world of mythical creatures such as Gaia's powerful gnomes and shy wood nymphs. Gaia great power of the Earth is worshiped by her people who call themselves the Terrains. These people live high in the northern lands above the Spirit Mountains that is dead center of the great mythical lands. The Terrains aver very peaceful people who live and thrive off the great forest that they live in. Respectful of the trees, the grass, and brush, Terrains are very protective of their element.

To the west lays the great lake called the Waters of Alcyhe. With in there waters are the beautiful tricksters the mermaids, and wise and ever helpful Water horse. Both of which are loyal creatures of Alcyone. The great goddess of the Waters is worshiped by the Aguliarins. Boaters, fishers and travelers, the Aguliarins live on great ships on the waters or on the shore of the Allcyhe. Great healers usually thrive from the western lands, bringing great potions from their waters and the grasses and species that live in this wonder lake.

To the south is the great mountainous range that leads to the Volcano of Althea Sanctuary. Hard lands but fertile soil that even the Terrains are envious of. In these lands lay the powerful, wise and respected Dragons and the sneaky riddlers called the Salamanders. Each creature loyal and faithful to the fire goddess Althea. The people who live here call themselves the Flame Warriors. Powerful, proud and wise, the Warrior build their homes of stone, and are masters of flame and metal. Making anything they need or want from metal, or any for of such. Their land is full of riches and are an excellent alley to have if ever a war is to approach.

Finally to the east live the beautiful creatures of the sky called the Sylphes . Along with them are the tiny and playful faeries, both creatures beautiful servants to Cassiopeia, the great Goddess of the sky. The one who worship Cassiopeia call themselves the Spirits. They live in windy Highlands in caves surrounded by long dancing grass and flowers that look like a color sea. Playful and free spirited, the Spirits are fun loving and live in their own reality. As free as they are, they are wise and full of Philosophers.

In this time of peace, there is a danger growing deep within the Spirit Mountain. A darkness the four goddesses sense but they themselves cannot reach. So they go to their followers, and each gift two humans with the power of their element, to gather and go to the Spirit Mountains, to face the darkness growing. Although the fight will be long and hard, there are creatures of the Shadows that will stand in their way. Followers of this being who will die to protect their God. Now we must stop this, and protect the four lands from the overwhelming shadow that is cast by the great Mountain.

Clang. Clang. Clang. The high pitched shrill carried on, as Abby brought the hammer down time and time again on the glowing piece of metal resting on the 200 pound anvil. After a couple more strokes of the hammer, her brother Val pulled the hot flat piece of metal away and dipped it into oil, a blue flame catching as he pulled it out again with his tongs. Brom was waiting by the fire, shoveling more coals into the fire, then adding air to make the heat stronger.

All three were drenched in sweat from head to toe, faces set as they focused in on their work of creating a blade for a fellow warrior. Putting her hammer down for a moment Abby rolled her shoulders and pushed back a few hair that were now plastered to her brow from sweat. Looking over at their customer Abby flashed him a smile which seemed to shock him still that a female was the one wielding the hammer, and not the kiln or the tongs. "Abigale!" Brom yelled. Her smile instantly fading Abby picked up her hammer again and began to shape the blade. This time, each stroke handled with more and more precision. The shape finally coming too, her father and herself exchanged positions and his expert skill began to add detail to the blade. Nodding her her father and brother Abby walked away from the scorching heat and past the man watching to a large basin of water awaited and a barrel of honey mead.

Elisi stood at the street corner. She made no effert in vanishing into the crowd. thr hussle and bussle of the town was as it always was. her silver gardening shears were saftly strapped to her waist. Her falling out of her hood had began blowing around as the stromy clouds drew nay. the busy old street corner was starting to clear as she walked down the street.

It's been getting darker sooner... why is it raining so much? She stopped allowing some people standing behind her to pass. Elisi leaned herself up against a red brick building wall. resting her foot on it. A hand laid gently on the shears, while the other was dangling limply at her side. I wonder if this means anything.....

At that instant the rain poured down on top of the town as people went into the usual panic when not expecting a down pour. Elisi ran her way into a shop before shutting the door behind her. It was better then staying out in the rain

Elizabeth sprinted through the forrest, fleeing from and unseen foe. She burst into the light, the meadow spreading around her. She felt more at home here, more... comfortable among the tall grasses and wild flowers. She flopped down on the ground staring up at the sky. She watched a few clouds pass before she felt it again. It was that strange feeling she was being watched. Liz sat up suddenly and looked around. There was no one in sight.

As a matter of fact there was nothing but meadow, sourrounded by trees. The cozy feeling vanished. Poof; it was gone. Liz paniced, something was wrong, terribly, terribly wrong. She looked around one more time and colapsed, a small creature slinking out of the thick forrest line.

When Liz woke up she was laying and a bed. And when she woke up again, from the dream this time and she was in the medow. Or rater a medow. A very different medow. Come to think of it it was more of some ones back yard. Oh, wait it was someones back yard. Liz's thoughts came rushing back to her, her mind cleared and shee rolled over, off of the rock digging into her spine.

She gasped as pain shot through her leg. Liz rolled up her pants and saw, clear as day her leg was brocken. She took a deep breath and tried to correct it. A muted scream escaped her lips. She finaly had it and had manged to grab some wood and tape and had it wrapped up in good time. She also had scrounged up a long walking stick that would serve as a crutch.

Who ever owned this yard really needed to clean it but for now Liz was releived to be alive.

Xaul lounged on a rock above the town, basking in the sun and staring. He loved the warmth, the sensation of the blazing rays caressing his skin. Nothing light the night, the dark, the shadows… Xaul quickly shook his head, wiping the thoughts from his mind. Nothing about the Long Night. I am here to get supplies, have a drink, and sleep in a decent bed. Not to get into a fight, not because the gloom has any power over me. Oh, and Drshil needs a bit of repair. Wonder if there’s a good forge here?

Xaul stood and walked into town, trying as hard as possible to ignore the stares of the locals. His tall gray figure was a rather strange sight, and the heavily scarred face didn’t help much. After asking several passersby, Xaul poked his head into the local forge. Moving silently through the smoky room, Xaul waited patiently for someone to notice him, for now happy to fade into the background and observe the workers.

((This is Abby's forge, ShaPhex.))

Zanthax was in the town, a town he was not used to. He had been sent on an errand and now he was somewhere quite far from his home. He glanced around him hoping either to catch a friendly glance or something that would jog his memory into remembering why he was there. His blue pools showered over every face. His lean yet muscular arms lay limply at his side. His bow and arrows were tied tightly to his straight back.

Suddenly a down pour began and rain fell everywhere. Panick stricken people ran frantically around the town, heading off the streets and into shops and doorways. Zan remained standing where he was, his brown hair now plastered to his skull. He looked around with his blue eyes watching the weird looks of people who believed he was strange for not running away from the droplets.

water didn't bother him even though he was an air type. Air was his kind of element and he enjoyed it greatly especially when running and having the wind brush by him. Rain however put him at piece even when he didn't have much of a connection with it. He turned around now looking for someone who could help him out.

Walking around the outside of the forge, her cup of mead in hand, Abby paused to see a tall man waiting outside of their loud, hot and smoky forge. "Aye, sir!" Abigale called and walked over to him. With her free hand Abby pushed some of her fly-away hair out of her face as she approached the man. "Can I help you with anything?" she asked, her eyes scanning his face, but nothing shown of how different he looked.

Her bright eyes locked levelly with his, or at least as level as she could be being his height. He looked rather tired, battered and slightly worn and also in need of something that he assumed this forge could give him. With a bright smile Abby handed her half empty mug out to him, "You look like you need this more then I do."

“That I do, lass. Thanks,” said Xaul, taking the mug. After a hefty swallow, he handed the mug back to the young woman. “That’s good, thank you. Name’s Xaul Knofker, and I was wondering if you could help me fix a weapon. This,” he grinned, unsheathing Drshil, “is Drshil, my left-hand blade. Lately, the action for opening the blade has been a little off, and it also needs a better sharpening job than I could do in the field. What say you?”

As he spoke, Xaul wondered about the girl. A girl, doing heavy work in the forge, who’s not put off by my skin? Strange town here, but this could prove to be fun.

Taking the mug back, Abby placed it on one of the tables just behind her. Turning back to the man she gave him a nodded and reached out to inspect his weapon. "Name's Abigale Blackstone. Abby if you will," she said while her eyes skimmed over his weapon like an expert. Flipping it over she slid her left hand inside and gently squeezed the two handles together. There was a soft click as she did, the blades moving only a fraction of an inch. Leaning her head closer she took in the mechanics carefully then smiled. "One of the cogs is jammed," she said and looked up at him with a witty smirk. Motioning with her head to follow her, Abby headed into the forge across the way from her father and brother.

"The man with the graying beard is my father Brom, the other is Val, my big brother," she said and smiled at them while the finished up the sword she shaped from them earlier. Turning her head back to look up at Xaul she smiled a little wider, showing her bright white teeth, "So where did you come upon this unique piece of weaponry?" she asked as she grabbed a thin metal rod, about a quarter inch in diameter, and 5" long. Her eyes narrowing to get a better look at what she was doing Abby thoughtlessly bit the inside of her mouth and carefully pushed at something that was holding the cog in place. After only a few seconds, Abby pushed away what was either decaying flesh, or scum from a pond or lake. Ignoring whatever it was Abby lifted the device again and squeezed the handle and smiled at the blades sprung out.

"You need to keep better care of those cogs sir," she said with a kind but playful smile, her eyes glowing lightly, "otherwise you'll break one then fixing these won't be so easy," she said and walked over to a small barrel and pulled out three sheets of black leather and a granite stone. Finally looking up at Xaul to hear what it was he had to say.

“How did I come by Drshil? Now, that’s a question, isn’t it? Course, that is too…” Xaul’s mind was racing to find a story, one that wouldn’t end with this girl knowing his past. His mouth, however, had other ideas. “Took it and Haingre off of a shadow priest, a dead one. This was about three years back. They’ve been at my side ever since. Strange design, but they’ll pierce full plate armor and the open blade can catch most any sword. And yeah, I should take better care of them, but there hasn’t been much time.” Xaul’s eyes unfocused as he followed his journey home, and quickly refocused. “How’s about you, lass? How come a chit like you knows weapons and works in a forge?”

Pausing only for a moment at his words, Abby nodded and took up the stone and began to run it along the larges blades edge, a light, but shrill shing cutting over Xaul's words now and again. When he finished Abby had already finished one side of the blade she was working on and flipped it over in her hands and began with the next side.

Smiling at his question she glanced up at him and smiled a little wider and her eyes went back down to what she was doing as she began to speak, "Dad and Val raised me in this forge. My mother, rest her soul, passed while in labor with me." For a moment Abby paused in her work as she tried to imagine what her mother was like threw her father and brothers words. Shaking her head lightly, Abby ran the back of her hand over her brow once then went back to work. "Being stuck her all the time, father figured he make use of me, and I was willing to help. On top of showing promise in the art of crafting a well made blade, he taught me everything he knows."

Smiling to herself Abby reached her left hand into the weapon and squeezed the handles, releasing the other two blades and began on the one on her right side, "I steadily practiced with my swords, which by the way, I made myself," she said, obviously proud of her work, glancing up to read Xaul's expression. Looking down again she continued, "time passed, and I grew to love weapons, how to make them, what they do, how to wield them and so on and so forth. This that brings me to where I am today." she said then moved onto the other blade, her hand sliding up the blade with the leather and stone never missing a beat, her eyes following her movement carefully as she did.

“Lass, I find myself honestly impressed,” announced Xaul, giving her an exaggeratedly courteous bow. “This is, of course, a rare event, second only to the coming of the azure moon.” Rising, he slid a small baton out of a pocket and began to pass it through his fingers, whirling it faster and faster. Xaul often needed something to do with his hands, and one day had hit upon this exercise to improve his digital dexterity.

“Not having a parent is one of the hardest things in life, and you have come out of it beautifully. Having a loving family, being able to craft such fine weapons, I salute you.”

As he was talking, an idea sprang into Xaul’s head. “Now, you say that you can swing a sword with reasonable skill, yes? What would you say to a sparring match? Afterwards, we can settle on a price for your repairs.”

Without looking up Abby gave a smile and nodded once towards Xaul, appreciating his praise. As he continued Abby finished with his blade and quickly examined her work, listening while he spoke. Just as she slid Drshil back over to him her eyes locked with his, a vicious but tempting smile spread across her lips, her eyes glowing with the thrill of a challenge. "Xaul, I will give you fair warning, do not under estimate me for being a girl," she said and slid to her feet standing to her full height.

Xaul was tall, just a little taller then her brother Val, but shorter then her usual spar partner Aiden. Her eyes slowly scanning him Abby turned her head slightly and called to her father, "Da! I'm going to have a round!"

"With who hunny?" Brom called from the back, the loud cracking and smoldering of fire being muffled as Brom closed the kiln. Walking into pain view Brom squinted into the bright mid-day sun and looked at the man sitting across from Abby. "You're a brave man to challenge Abigale here," Brom said with the same smile Abby has and held a hand out to him, "Names Brom. I own this forge. And as I'm sure you know this is my little girl."

“Xaul Knofker,” said Xaul, clasping Brom’s hand. “You have a fine daughter, sir. And Abby-lass,” Xaul grimaced as he turned to her, fighting his memories, “in my world, underestimating an opponent will leave you dead.” He shuddered as his past flooded through him, death and suffering searing his mind, coursing through him until he slammed his mental walls down again.

Moving quickly to cover his several second lapse, Xaul seized Drshil from the table. Slotting his hand easily into the handle, he swept the katar through a series of strikes and blows, opening and closing the blade several times. Grinning, Xaul sheathed Drshil and turned to Abby and Brom. “Lass, you are an angel. It’s good as new. Would you lead the way to the sparring ring, then?”

"Bah! You are a fool to compare my sister to and angel. A demon more like it!" Val called from the forge, though with a bright smile as he did. Brom laughed with his sun and place a large hand on Abby's shoulder.

Abby rolled her eyes at them both, "Father, I'm not a child any more. I'm two and twenty and you still treat me like a babe." Playfully but powerful Abby place a firm pat on her fathers shoulder opposite her and moved from his grasp. "Come Xaul and follow me," she said and began to lead him towards a ring on the otherside of the forge. Walking to the back wall Abby lifted her twin scabbards off the wall and placed one on her right hip, the other strung across her back, the hilt peaking over her left shoulder.

As she put on her gear, Val had already spread word of the spar about to partake, and a light hum began to build in the village as other gathered around to see who was challenging Abigale Blackstone today. Brom was standing nearest the ring, his arms folded as he waited for them to began. Her gear inplace, Abby walked over to the large ring, about 10 feet in diameter, the ring made by long burried in the ground, sticking out only about a quater of an inch.

Rolling her neck and shoulders Abby entered the ring and gave a slight bow to Xaul, "You are guest, I give you the opertunity to strike fist," she said, her knees bending lightly and hands empty of her weapons but held close to her sides to balance her.

"Wrong, Val,” Xaul muttered under his breath as he followed Abby to the ring, pocketing the baton. “I’m the demon here.” He could feel the stares of the villagers, eying him warily, whispering about him. Look at me, gawk at me. That’s right. Fear me, hate me. I’m used to it. Don’t worry, though. When I’m done here I’ll leave and never taint your village again. All you have to do is tolerate my shadow for a day or two.

Nodding in thanks to Abby, Xaul unsheathed Drshil and Haingre, dropping into an easy stance. Facing Abby, he began to circle her, his lips stretching into a death’s-head smile as he remained just out of reach. Slowly, carefully, he moved around and around her, punctuating his every step by opening and closing his twin blades. Shink. Shink. Shink. He began to move a little faster, but still waited, not saying a word. Shink. Shink. Xaul suddenly clapped the hoods of the katars together, sending a loud clang echoing through the forge. He laughed to himself at the sight of the onlookers jumping at the noise. Shink. Shink. Shink. Xaul still circled, waiting. Shink.

Exploding into motion, Xaul rushed Abby, collapsing into a diagonal roll which he cam out of on her left side. As he rose, Xaul slashed at Abby’s thigh and side, flipping backwards quickly. Dropping back into his stance, Xaul began to circle once again. Shink. Shink. Shink.
