La Guillotine (OOC and Signups) ( )

Postby Leila Aarons on Fri Nov 14, 2008 9:19 pm

The late 1700's in France. Unhappiness was spreading around, and the peasants were especially unhappy. The nobles and clergy were getting special privileges, and they didn't think that was right at all. The King is unsure of what to do, being a King that wants to be liked by his people, and so he doesn't want to make any of them unhappy. Thus, he is taking no sides, and the factions of the city don't seem to like that. The entire royal family may possibly be in danger in the future, but where we start it is still fairly calm. Complaints are still fairly quiet, no riots yet. Yet being the key word.

Rules:
-No god-modding.
-No one-liners. At least one paragraph a post, and try to stay literate. That means proper capitals, minimum spelling mistakes--typos are understandable--and please try to have proper grammar and sentence structure.
-Keep romance according to the rules. I personally don't mind romance, but if you have to do anything too far, either just imply it in the text or take it to PM's.
-Violence must be sensible, no killing without permission, etc. If you have given permission for your character to be killed please PM me so I know that.
-Cursing must be reasonable. Some is fine, but don't be vulgar, please. It's not enjoyable to read.
-If you are leaving or unable to post please notify me.
-I have the right to ask you to leave the RP if I see fit.
-Please try to keep the gender ratios even. I don't want ten girls and only two guys.
-Please only post in the IC once you have been accepted.

In this roleplay, you can be anything from a member of the royal family to a peasant. I would like it if you would have at least a little bit of general knowledge of the French Revolution, but you don't have to know too much. I'm not going to follow the happenings exactly. The characters will be original, and most events different from what actually happened. This roleplay is just loosely based around that time period and those events.

Now then, here are the roles that your character can take. If there's something you think of that isn't here, just talk to me and I'll see if it will fit in.

My Characters:

Name:
Isabella Rose Antoinette
Age:
16
Gender:
Female
Faction:
Royal Family
Role:
Princess
Personality:
Isabella seems much like a normal princess when you see her in public. She is regal, polite, and very 'proper'. In private, however, she is much more like a normal person. She enjoys talking, making jokes, just having a good time in general. She also likes the outdoors more than the lavishness of the palace, and doesn't get to expierience the outside enough. She would much rather be out horseback riding than listening to the foolish talk of the other ladies in court. If given the chance, one could see that Isabella is very intelligent--clever and witty as well, and she knows how to use sarcasm just right most of the time. Overall, she is a very charming young woman, but stubborn beyond belief.
Bio:
Isabella was born to the king and queen sixteen years ago, and she is actually one of the legitimate children. Though, she is not the heir to the throne--her brother has taken that position. Honestly, she is glad for that, as she doesn't think she would be able to be Queen. At times, however, she can change her mind, believing she could do things better than her father. She is quiet about this, though, and keeps to herself. She always has.

From the moment she turned six, it was evident that Isabella was going to be a strong woman who doesn't let anyone push her around. However, she also knows when to bite her tongue, and has never had an issue in doing so. Growing up, she noticed the deterioration of the kingdom, and she sees it now more than ever. She only hopes that her father will make the right decision. During her years, she wasn't always that close to her parents, as they always seemed to be occupied elsewhere. This in itself has made her fairly introverted, though she can loosen up and have fun.

She grew up in the lavish lifestyle of a princess, but at a fairly early age she began to notice things going wrong in the kingdom. She tried to learn more of what was going on outside the palace, but it was very hard to get that information. She has had to use her charm a few times to get knowledge from troops, guards, or other people in the castle--that doesn't mean sleeping with them, though. She really is just very good at coercing people with her speech. In this way, she has and still does remain informed about the outside happenings--perhaps more informed of some things than her father.
Other:
Isabella secretly enjoys to write poetry and stories, though few know that she can even read and write at all, as many woman in the time couldn't.
Appearance:
Isabella stands at a good height of five foot eight inches, with long legs that compliment her overall beauty. She, naturally, inhereted these good looks from her mother. She is very lean and not extremely curvy, but she has a good enough figure to turn most all heads. As a princess should--or so she had always been told. Her complextion is very fair, going well with the light blonde color of her hair. Her dark gray eyes don't seem to fit with her overall look, but at the same time can kind of compliment the rest. She usually tends to wear light colors, but not bright ones. Though, secretly, she would much rather be wearing pants and a shirt.

Name:
Annette Bellerose
Age:
15
Gender:
Female
Faction:
Peasants
Role:
Just a regular peasant
Personality:
Annette is very quiet and softspoken, and she usually does what is asked of her without any complaints or back-talk. Any complaints that she has she keeps to herself, never making an uproar about it. Honestly, she doesn't fully agree with all of the things the other peasants are doing, but--true to her nature--she remains quiet about it. Around boys, she is very shy, and because of this hasn't so much as even hugged a boy before. She isn't sure if she will ever be able to overcome this shyness or not, but she does try. Despite all of this, she is a very kind person, and cares deeply about many things--animals, and other people. Oftentimes she seems to look only on the bright side, but that's usually just because she is good at hiding her negative feelings, which isn't always good.
Bio:
Annette was born to a peasant family already comprised of a father, a mother, two brothers, and another sister. She was the youngest of the group by a few years. Still, she was well-loved and had a good life, despite the fact that they have always been hurting for food and money. Her father always had to work extremely hard while her mother cared for the children. When Annette was old enough, her mother began to work as well, and all of the kids had to be working by the age of eight to ten.

Annette was always quiet and shy, and never spoke up about any of her problems, but would always listen to the problems of others. She became a good outlet for the family, because they knew they could talk to her and trust her with anything. It was hard, though, as she had to deal with knowing their problems and feeling bad about them, while also dealing with her own problems. It was a lot for a child to bear, and she continues to bear it all to this very day. She works in her family's shop, selling bread, cooking utensils, and even clothing. A general store, you could call it.
Other:
Annette wants nothing more than to find a husband and lead a happy life, but she would also like to learn how to read and write--something almost no peasants had the privilege of learning.
Appearance:
Annette stands at about five foot seven, with fairly long legs and a curvy body. As a peasant, Annette is actually surprisingly beautiful, not marred from years of hard labor since her family is fortunate enough to run a shop. Her complexation is nicely tanned and even, save for the light dusting of freckles across her face. Her hair is a shocking red, and her eyes a light blue. Usually she wears just a simple dress, never anything fancy as the family can't afford it. But she doesn't mind the simple clothes.

You have far too many good ideas for your own good you know? You'll NEVER be rid of me when you choose my favorite time period to play in. *tisk tisk and clicks tongue*

Is it possible for me to be the Queen? If so, are we basing this off any particular Royal Family era? I'M NOT MARIE ANTIONETTE! I'm nto an Austrian whore and would prefer to have some common sense. ... well as much as a woman in those times had in the first place.

Well, this is in the era of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI. But, as I said, all of the characters are going to be original, so the queen isn't actually Marie Antoinette. I just used that last name for the princess because I like it and I thought it fit well. *shrugs* Anyway, please do make an original character of your choosing. ^_^

Sory, I can be Marie if you'd like, I just 1. didn't want you to think that was the only thing I knew about this period and 2. didn't really want to play her. Either way, I can change things later. I also have an idea for a leser nobleman doctor if you'd like? I'll put his profile here too and if not than I'll change it.

Name; Ophelle Fantine Antoinette (maiden; Univese)
Age; 42
Position; Royal Family, Queen
Personality;
Socially acceptable in her opinions, but only for the public and in private enjoys the "queen's power" to say whatever as long as it's within the boundries of her kingdom. Is greatly in love with her family and would think that those who have children for the sake of children should be committed, but understands that marriage is escential for longevity(sp) in a woman's lifetime. She has a fairly wicked tongue that she has to bite to keep in check and has had some difficulty accepting the fact that she doesn't have the same power as her husband but knows it's simply a fact of life that she must become even more used to than some other peasantry.

Bio; She was the daughter of a nobleman who could bear no other children and so decided to rear her as the finest thing on the shelf, which bothered her greatly as a child and now makes her feel a bit guilty for giving him grief. Afteral, it was simpler to get a husband that way and a king no less. She disliked her mother and when she passed away in childbirth of her brother, he father went... a little mad. He re-married and tried again, this time it worked out a little better, as he is still married but has no children. Ophelle dislikes her step-mother even more than her biological one and finds that her fathers taste in women is poor.
She attempted to have a hand in her daughter's growth as a woman but became very frustrated with her and decided that it would be better to fold all her efforts into grooming her son to be the leader she wished to be. Not that she dislikes Isabella but is finding it difficult to register her in the case that she is so much like her. Almost feeling pitty for what her life shall be like.

Appearance;

Name; Javart Rosenfae
Age; 29
gender; male
role; Nobleman, Doctor, court physition
personality; Logic-bound and very level-headed. A bit narrow minded and tries to look at the black and white of a situation before judging it. Is very passionate about his work and is bound by the teachings of his former master physition and doesn't much stray from them. He feels there is only work out there for him and is destined to be healing until his own health slipps away.

Bio; was brought up to believe that he was "better" than so much of his countrymen and told that he wouldn't have to work. Although he saw his father's health slip away at a very young age and decided he would work to prevent anything like that from happening again, especially not to his mother. He went to school for almost nine years and finished round the age of 20. He was brought on to serve as court physition under the recomendation of his master, Dr. Fridrick Van Schizt; a renoun medicine maker.

Sweet! The funny thing is, I didn't really read over your description of Isabella until I needed to know her bio and both the mother and daughter have a lot in common, almost like traits you'd find in that sort of generational thing. If nothing else, Isabella coud find love with Javart, but I was almost planning an affair with him and the Queen and then she get's found out and either beheaded or just dethroned, I'd prefer beheading but it STILL sounds too much like Marie Antoinette. I suppose I'll just have to live with it. *sigh*

Sounds good to me. Perhaps the Queen can have an affair with Javart, but as he's with her he could start to fall for Isabella. So, by the time the Queen is found out and...either beheaded or dethroned, beheading would make more sense for that time...anyway, after that he could end up with Isabella. Just a rough idea--we can see how the roleplay works out.

That's what I was thinking, it's funny how we do that. Don't you think? Oh well, anyway; sounds good to me, now all we have to do is wait for some more people to show up. This may take a little while I'm guessing.

Really? Will you teach me? XD I'm eager to get this show on the road! I think it'll be so great, especially since we probably won't get a lot of those people who're like; "The dog ran donw the completely modern sidewalk that has nothing to do with the story*. Those kind of people really tick me off.

Yeah, tell me about it. I hope this gets off the ground soon--hopefully by tomorrow afternoon. Or morning, that would be even better. But still, I want it to be good, so I won't rush it.

True, but you should stil try and advertise it a little. I knwo that once it leaves the top of the page it's lost in a sea of crap and sometimes no one can find it. So maybe start an "interest check" thread and pull people over to the darkside.
