Now that that's out of the way, welcome to RolePlayGateway. Make sure to read the stickies and all that good stuff, but above all, make sure you read the stickies having to do with the chat system...it has a tendency to get overhauled whenever the site owner has an idea for a new feature he wants.

Getting around on the forum should be intuitive enough, but here's a primer on what you can do in the chat:

/me <message> performs an action, most often when In Character.
/msg <user> <message> sends a private message to the specified user.
/ic <character name> allows you to roleplay, and /ooc lets you stop. (Variant: /ooc <message> allows you to send an Out of Character message to the entire room that you're currently In Character in.)
/roll xdy+z rolls x dice, each with y sides, adds z to the total, and gives you the results of each die roll as well as a sum, including the modifier. The plus sign can be a minus as well, in which case a subtraction is performed. x and y both have to be whole numbers between 1 and 100: Otherwise (usually when they exceed 100) they default to x=1 and y=6.
/north, /west, /east, /south, /up and /down allow you to explore the vast IC world. Provided there's an exit in the direction you want to go, you'll go in that direction. (Currently there are over 100 different areas! Don't worry, there's a map on the forum made by WorthlessEncounters in case you get lost. ^_^)

Green names like myself are Moderators. We're generally helpful people.
Blue names are Mentors. Hit them up when you need to bone up on your roleplaying skills.
Red names are Administrators. Contact them when you need to have a bug dealt with or have an issue with one of the other staff members.

That's pretty much all you need to know! Now get out there and have some fun.

Welcome aboard nerd specks! You best strap yourself down to the deck, because as some would say, "the water's a bit rocky". But don't let that intimidate you, it just means we've got a HUGE variety of things here! ^_^ As Sato said, the chat here is a very huge part of our role playing system, however the forums are just as popular. I suppose I'll give you a quick run through of some key things to think about/remember, hm?

Well, for starters, the best way to get yourself into a forum RP is to click the forums tab -points- up top there. The OOC section is awesome, you could skim through those posts on that first page, but I personally find the best way to find a role play is to check out the 'Role Players Wanted' and 'Interest Check' sub-forums. There are literally hundreds upon thousands of ideas circulating here, all unique in some way or another and pertaining to a whole array of different genres.
You'll also find that a lot of members give out their e-mails and screen names for more personalized or private role play. We have out very own user mailboxes and some awesome features that allow us to basically 'tag' the threads we find most interesting or want to keep up with. You can sign up for e-mail alerts and things too ^.^

Say you find yourself feeling a bit intimidated or not as good as those you want to participate with? Well, the first step would of course be to ask them for help, they're usually very nice about it. You could also, always feel free to check out the 'Role Play Academy' section of the forums too! There are plenty of threads in there with helpful things for even the best writers on the site.

The chat can be both fun and confusing as all hell, but give it a try! Make a character in the character tab up there -points- and join in.
